Heartbeat - Chapter 22
Su Jianyue wiped the table clean before turning to Yu Lin. “Sister Yu Lin, please sit down.”
Â
“Mm,” Yu Lin nodded slightly, her gaze never leaving Su Jianyue’s face.
Â
Su Jianyue wiped her own stool and sat down. She pulled out a disposable wet wipe from her small bag and handed a packet to Yu Lin. “Here, wipe your hands. Let’s eat soon.”
Â
“Thank you,” Yu Lin said, her eyes softening as she looked at the adorable Little Alpha before her. How can she be so cute? And so thoughtful, like a well-behaved Little Puppy.
Â
Su Jianyue wiped her own hands with a wet wipe. She ordered two bowls of tofu pudding, two fried dough sticks, and a small steamer of steamed buns from the vendor.
Â
After placing the order, Su Jianyue turned to Yu Lin. Fortunately, being an extrovert, she didn’t feel awkward around people she didn’t know well.
Â
“Sister Yu Lin, how did you choose the gifts last night? Did you pick mine right away?” Su Jianyue asked curiously. She had been certain her sister would choose her gift.
Â
Yu Lin smiled at her. “Curious?”
Â
Su Jianyue nodded eagerly. “Mhm!”
Â
“Don’t call me ‘Sister Yu Lin’ anymore,” Yu Lin said with a smile. “This is a dating reality show. We’re here to find love, not family. Just call me Yu Lin from now on.” She needed to correct Su Jianyue’s thinking right away—this show was about romance, not finding a sister.
Â
“Okay,” Su Jianyue nodded in agreement.
Â
Yu Lin nodded back. “Yesterday, to ensure fairness, we opened all the gifts. Then the five of us drew lots to determine the order in which we’d choose our gifts.”
Â
“Oh, I see! So that’s why Sister Xunxun isn’t here,” Su Jianyue realized. “She must have drawn a later number.”
Â
As they talked, the steamed buns and tofu pudding Su Jianyue had ordered were brought to the table.
Â
Su Jianyue’s eyes lit up at the sight of the food. “I looked this place up online. It’s a local favorite! Their tofu pudding and steamed buns are supposed to be the best, so I picked this restaurant.”
Â
“Alright, let’s dig in and savor it,” Yu Lin said enthusiastically.
Â
Su Jianyue took a spoonful of tofu pudding first. The savory gravy blended perfectly with the silky-smooth tofu, and she couldn’t help but nod in approval after the first bite.
Â
The gravy here was exceptionally well-made—not too salty, unlike any she’d tasted before.
Â
“Mmm, this tofu pudding is actually quite delicious,” Su Jianyue praised.
Â
Yu Lin nodded in agreement. “Indeed, it’s not too salty, and the texture is perfect.”
Â
Su Jianyue tried a spoonful of plain tofu pudding before adding chive blossoms and chili oil.
Â
After that, she took a bite of the youtiao, the crispy-golden fried dough stick. The outer layer was perfectly crunchy, while the inside remained soft and fluffy. A bite of youtiao paired with a spoonful of savory tofu pudding was simply heavenly.
Â
“If you find it bland, try adding some chive blossoms and chili oil—it makes it even better!” Su Jianyue exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with delight.
Â
Yu Lin watched Su Jianyue, completely absorbed in her meal, her face full of amusement. “Okay.”
Â
Su Jianyue continued to devour her food, even sampling a few steamed buns. When she was really digging in, she couldn’t be bothered with talking.
Â
Yu Lin chuckled, “Slow down, we’re not in a rush today.”
Â
She started eating too.
Â
“Mmm-hmm, guess where we’re going later?” Su Jianyue asked, having finished her fried dough sticks and only half a bowl of tofu pudding left. Only now did she finally have time to chat.
Â
Yu Lin rested her chin in her hand, pondering for a moment before answering, “The amusement park?”
Â
After all, Little Puppy A still seemed like a child and would probably enjoy a place like that, right?
Â
Su Jianyue shook her head with a mysterious smile. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Â
“So secretive? Then let me guess again—the aquarium?”
Â
Su Jianyue shook her head again. “You’d never guess it! Are you done eating? Let’s get going!”
Â
“Yeah, I’m finished.”
Â
Su Jianyue quickly paid the bill, and they boarded the production crew’s car.
Â
Su Jianyue immediately instructed the driver to return to Heartbeat House first.
Â
Yu Lin asked in surprise, “Why are we going back?”
Â
Could it be that Su Jianyue was dissatisfied with her and didn’t even want to continue the date?
Â
Of course, Yu Lin didn’t voice these concerns, but she couldn’t help feeling a little anxious.
Â
Su Jianyue scratched the back of her neck, looking a little embarrassed. “You might want to change your clothes. It’s best not to wear a skirt, or it’ll be inconvenient when we go out later.”
Â
“Fine, and you said we weren’t going to an amusement park,” Yu Lin muttered under her breath, but she was completely relieved. As long as Su Jianyue still wanted to go on a date with her, that was all that mattered.
Â
Su Jianyue didn’t argue. When they returned to Heartbeat House, she obediently got out of the car with Yu Lin and waited for her in the lobby while Yu Lin went upstairs to change.
Â
Afraid of making Su Jianyue wait too long, Yu Lin quickly changed into a white chiffon short-sleeved top and light-wash denim shorts.
Â
When Yu Lin came downstairs, she saw Su Jianyue waiting patiently in the lobby.
Â
The corners of Yu Lin’s lips curled upward slightly. If only she could truly win Su Jianyue over. This adorable Little Milk A was truly one of a kind.
Â
“I’m ready now. Let’s go,” Yu Lin said with a smile.
Â
“Mm-hmm,” Su Jianyue nodded obediently. After getting back into the car, it took about twenty minutes before they pulled up to the curb.
Â
Su Jianyue got out of the car with her phone and bag, and Yu Lin followed.
Â
Su Jianyue pointed to a nearby shop. “It’s right there.”
Â
“A pottery studio? I’ve never been to one before.”
Â
“Let’s go make some little trinkets today,” Su Jianyue said, pushing open the studio door and gesturing for Yu Lin to enter first.
Â
A smile played on Yu Lin’s lips as she glanced at Su Jianyue. “Thank you.”
Â
“No problem, it’s my pleasure,” Su Jianyue replied, heading to the front desk. The receptionist led them to the second floor. Since it was a Tuesday morning, the workshop was nearly empty.
Â
Su Jianyue immediately asked for a small bowl of pre-mixed clay and grabbed an apron. “You should wear this, or you might get clay on your clothes.”
Â
“Okay,” Yu Lin said, putting on the apron. Her eyes flickered to Su Jianyue beside her. “Could you help me tie the back?”
Â
“Mm-hmm, sure!” Su Jianyue hurried over and gently fastened the apron ties around Yu Lin’s waist.
Â
The live stream’s bullet comments went wild again.
Â
Ahhh, Yu Lin is so clever! Getting Xiao Yueliang to tie her apron.
Â
Right? She’s so good at creating opportunities. Why does this look kinda sweet?
Â
A mature lawyer paired with a pure Little Milk A? Oh no, this couple actually looks kinda good together!
Â
Ahhh, I’m dying from the cuteness! Xunxun Baby, I’m sorry, I’m climbing the wall to ship this for a bit.
