Heartbeat - Chapter 3
Su Jianyue had visited Shen Xun’s school before, so she went straight to the open space in front of the teaching building to wait for her.
With her naturally striking looks and the fact that it was the end of class, she drew frequent glances from many omegas. Some bolder girls even approached her directly to ask for her contact information.
“Excuse me, which college are you from? Can I add you?”
Su Jianyue remained completely unfazed by such encounters. She smiled warmly and chuckled, “Oh, I’m sorry, I’m from another school. I’m here to see my sister, and she doesn’t let me give my contact information to strangers.”
Her face radiated sincerity, and her large eyes sparkled with genuine amusement. The girl quickly replied, “No worries, no worries, I understand. Maybe we’ll meet again sometime. Bye!”
“Goodbye!” Su Jianyue waved cheerfully.
Shen Xun, who was descending the stairs at that moment, witnessed the scene. The smile on her face faded slightly. This little sister of mine… she’s always been so popular and well-liked, ever since she was a child.
Su Jianyue noticed Shen Xun and hurried toward her. “Sister, are you done with class?”
Shen Xun smiled and nodded. “Take your time. I’m not going anywhere.”
“Hehe, I missed you!” Su Jianyue skipped over to Shen Xun and immediately began to act cute.
Shen Xun’s eyes crinkled with amusement. Su Jianyue was still as sweet-talking as when she was little—no wonder everyone adored her.
“You’re such a charmer,” Shen Xun said, gently straightening Su Jianyue’s collar. “Stand still. Your shirt’s unbuttoned. Let me fix it for you.” With tender eyes, Shen Xun began buttoning Su Jianyue’s shirt.
Su Jianyue’s smile never faded. She had originally planned to say she hadn’t buttoned the top button on purpose, but seeing her sister’s gentle care, she couldn’t bear to stop her. Instead, she obediently watched Shen Xun.
Shen Xun was well aware of Su Jianyue’s gaze, but she didn’t show it, though the tips of her ears flushed slightly. “That girl you were talking to earlier—do you know her?”
Su Jianyue immediately shook her head. “No, she wanted to add me on social media, but I told her my sister wouldn’t let me.”
Shen Xun shot her a playful glare. “When did I ever say that?”
Su Jianyue leaned in, her eyes curving into crescents as she coaxed, “Then I’ll add her for real next time!”
Shen Xun looked up sharply, and Su Jianyue felt the air around her suddenly chill. She quickly backtracked, “No, no, I won’t! Hehe, I was just joking.”
“Mm, from now on, just use the same approach you did before,” Shen Xun said, smoothing the wrinkles on Su Jianyue’s collar.
She glanced up at Su Jianyue. “Your shirt’s all wrinkled. Can’t you even straighten it yourself?”
“But I have my sister, don’t I?” Su Jianyue wanted to hug her sister, but she remembered her mother’s words and hesitated to reach out. They couldn’t casually hug and cuddle like they used to when they were little; after all, one was an Alpha and the other an omega.
“You’re such a smooth talker,” Shen Xun said, relenting. “Alright, let’s go home first.” She took Su Jianyue’s wrist and led her toward the school gate.
“Sister, do you have classes this afternoon?” Su Jianyue asked.
“Yes, but they end at five. It’s fine, I’ll come back later. You should rest at home first.”
“But I want to go to class with you this afternoon. I don’t want to be alone at home.” Su Jianyue pleaded, her persistence finally wearing Shen Xun down.
“Alright, if you don’t mind being bored, you can come to class with me.”
“Mm-hmm!” Su Jianyue’s smile widened at the thought of spending the afternoon with her sister.
Their conversation had drawn the attention of many passersby. It was the end of the school day, and the road was bustling with students.
“Holy crap, look! The sun’s rising in the west! Isn’t that School Beauty Shen?”
“Huh? You’re right! Who’s that standing across from her? She’s gorgeous! When did our school get such a high-quality female Alpha?”
“I don’t recognize her. Wait, is Shen Xun fixing her clothes? And she’s smiling at that female Alpha? Is this even Shen Xun anymore?”
“Yeah, who is that girl? Could she be School Beauty Shen’s girlfriend?”
“No idea, but they look so good together! Both are stunning!”
“Oh my god, I’m shipping them already! Speaking of which, I used to secretly ship her with Xiao Yueliang when we were kids. I wonder how that Xiao Yueliang from the show is doing now.”
“Me too! I loved watching Xiao Yueliang and Shen Xun together when we were little. I’m so glad Shen Xun didn’t grow up ugly. I wonder how Xiao Yueliang is doing now. My cyber baby can’t grow up ugly either!”
Su Jianyue and Shen Xun paid no attention to the curious stares. They quickly returned to the villa, but Shen Xun’s family wasn’t home. Shen Xun first took Su Jianyue to her room to drop off her luggage.
Whenever Su Jianyue visited, she always stayed in the room next to Shen Xun’s. Over time, it had become her exclusive room.
“Do you have a lot of things? I’ll help you unpack,” Shen Xun said, moving to help Su Jianyue organize her room.
“No need, Sister,” Su Jianyue quickly replied. “I can manage on my own.”
The suitcase contained her personal belongings, and Su Jianyue felt too embarrassed to let her Sister help unpack.
She opened the suitcase and retrieved the gift she had brought for Shen Xun. “Sister, I have a gift for you. Wait a moment.”
As she spoke, Su Jianyue vigorously tore off the protective foam from the brocade box, peeled away layers of soft cloth, and finally pulled out a small pink jade pig.
She held it up for Shen Xun to see. “Sister, look! Isn’t it adorable?”
Shen Xun’s eyes curved into a smile. Su Jianyue’s zodiac animal was the pig, and her gaze swept over the pink jade pig in Su Jianyue’s hand. She had to admit, it was quite charming.
The pig’s appearance, with its seemingly smiling face, made it look both well-behaved and utterly endearing.
“It’s adorable,” Shen Xun said. “The little pig is so well-behaved, just like you.”
“Hehe, I knew you’d like it! I carved it myself. I learned from my mommy for a whole year,” Su Jianyue said proudly.
“Why haven’t you mentioned this before?” Shen Xun asked.
“Hmm, I wanted to surprise you, so I kept it a secret.”
“Alright, Xiao Yueliang is the best,” Shen Xun teased with a smile.
“Sister~ I’m not a child anymore!” Su Jianyue leaned closer, playfully pouting.
“Okay, okay, not a child anymore, but still so affectionate.”
“I only act this way with people I like,” Su Jianyue said, intending to convey that she only acted affectionately with those she was close to and fond of. However, Shen Xun misinterpreted her words.
The tips of Shen Xun’s ears flushed slightly, making the small red mole on her right ear appear even more vivid.
“Um, why don’t you unpack first? We should go eat soon,” Shen Xun said, clearing her throat to change the subject.
“Okay, I’ll take a shower first. Wait for me, Sister!” Su Jianyue quickly unpacked her belongings, grabbed a change of clothes, and hurried into the bathroom.
Shen Xun sat on the bed, fiddling with the small pink pig figurine in her hand. She gently tapped the pig’s snout, then tugged at its ear, noticing how much the little pig resembled Xiao Yueliang.
After playing with the pig for a while in good spirits, Shen Xun suddenly remembered a serious question.
When Xiao Yueliang was little, she always shared her candies equally with everyone. But this little pink pig—was it just for Shen Xun, or did her other sisters have one too? This thought set alarm bells ringing in Shen Xun’s mind. She’d have to ask Su Jianyue about it later.
When Su Jianyue finished drying her hair and came out, she found Shen Xun still sitting on the edge of the bed. “Sister, I’m done washing up. Let’s go eat. Should we put the little pig back first?”
Shen Xun nodded. Her room was already overflowing with pig toys, filling an entire shelf. Most of them had been gifts from Su Jianyue. “Okay, I’ll settle the little pig in first.”
As she spoke, Shen Xun casually asked, “This little pig you carved yourself—is it just for me? Or have you given them to others too?”
Su Jianyue scratched the back of her neck. “No, I only gave this one to you. It was so hard to carve! My hand ached so much just to make this one. How could I possibly give them to anyone else?”
Hearing this, Shen Xun finally relaxed. “Good girl. Since it’s so difficult to carve, don’t give them to anyone else in the future.”
She casually ruffled Su Jianyue’s hair. Seeming to enjoy the touch, Su Jianyue nuzzled against Shen Xun’s palm, murmuring, “Mmm, I’m always the most obedient.”
Seeing how well-behaved the little puppy was, Shen Xun took Su Jianyue’s wrist and led her downstairs.
Because Su Jianyue’s bath had taken longer than expected, it was already nearly 1 PM. After lunch, Su Jianyue accompanied Shen Xun to class.
Though Su Jianyue had visited Shen Xun at her university a few times before, this was the first time she was actually attending a class with her.
They got out of the car at the university’s side gate, as vehicles from outside the campus weren’t allowed inside Linhai University.
Shen Xun was a prominent figure on campus, and news of her arriving with Su Jianyue spread quickly throughout Linhai University.
Su Jianyue obediently followed Shen Xun, greeting everyone who waved to her with a bright smile, regardless of whether she knew them or not.
Shen Xun glanced at the little sun beside her, noting that she was still as cheerful and sociable as she had been in childhood.
“Are you like this at your own school too? Do lots of people greet you every day?” Shen Xun asked.
Su Jianyue nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! I’m really popular at school. Everyone loves hanging out with me.”
Shen Xun shook her head with a smile. Auntie and the others have spoiled my sister too much. She’s in college now, but all she thinks about is having fun.
The two entered the classroom where Shen Xun’s class would begin shortly. The room fell silent for a moment.
Zhang Qiao, Shen Xun’s best friend, teased, “Miss Shen, the Campus Belle, finally graces us with her presence? Aren’t you going to introduce us to your companion?”
Shen Xun glanced at Su Jianyue beside her, her eyes softening involuntarily. “My sister is joining me for class today.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. So it’s just a ‘sister,’ huh?” Zhang Qiao deliberately emphasized the word “sister,” her tone dripping with skepticism. Shen Xun, the fickle one, thinks I’m stupid? As if I can’t tell the difference between a sister and a “sister”!
Shen Xun shot her a playful glare. “Alright, move over a bit. We’ll sit here.”
“Fine, fine, fine. I’ll be your love bodyguard. Happy now?” Zhang Qiao quickly gathered her things, clearing space for the “sisters.”
