- Chapter 9 - Book Two: The Emergence of Space
Xu Jianguo, in his room, pricked up his ears and listened carefully to the faint conversation of Father Xu and Mother Xu coming through. Feeling reassured, he fell asleep.
Under the cover of the night, Xu Jianshe glared at his elder brother. He made up his mind: no matter what, if his elder brother got married, he wouldn’t be left out either.
But as Xu Jingping listened to the broken and intermittent words of Father Xu and Mother Xu, she was already feeling irritated, and now she felt a pain in her chest.
She urgently needed something to happen—a thing that could change her current situation, allowing her to hold her head high, puff out her chest, and speak boldly in both her natal and in-law families!
Right now, Xu Jing’an had no other thoughts; she just wanted to curse.
As Xu Jingping set her wedding date tonight, a “ding” sound went off in Xu Jing’an’s mind.
She was startled at first, then realized that perhaps the “golden finger” (cheat ability) she had gained from transmigrating had finally arrived.
Although it was a year late, she didn’t mind—better late than never!
Who would have thought that a one-cubic-meter space would appear in her mind, containing a book titled *My Sweet Green Tea Wife*.
Goodness! The female lead wasn’t someone else—it was the original host’s elder sister, the second child, Xu Jingping.
The story was about how the female lead grew up in a family that favored sons over daughters, how she pretended to have a chance encounter with the male lead, how she flirted with him through letters, and how she used various means to catch the male lead, who was average-looking but came from a well-off family.
Then, by her own efforts and abilities, she secured a good job before marriage, earning the recognition and praise of her in-laws, colleagues, and superiors.
Throughout the story, she faces all kinds of conflicts at work and in her family, overcoming various challenges with her intelligence and wit, eventually leading to a happy life.
And Xu Jing’an, herself, was the person who provided the female lead with a good job.
After that, the plot never mentions her again, except in the female lead’s recollections in her old age. It said that she fell ill and didn’t get treatment in time, dying in the countryside before she turned thirty.
“I—” “Beep—beep—beep—” Xu Jing’an had a belly full of words but didn’t know what to say (ー_ー)!!
She gradually slowed her breathing and then tried to think about what to do about this situation.
To be honest, after reading the book about Xu Jingping just now, she felt relieved.
Relieved that Xu Jingping hadn’t used her tricks at home—or rather, hadn’t used them on her.
The reason was likely this: the other two Xu family members were boys, so using schemes on them would be a waste. As for herself, she was already at the bottom of the Xu family hierarchy—wearing the shabbiest clothes, eating the worst food, and doing the most work.
Xu Jingping was not hard to figure out. She had a strong sense of pride and a very purposeful way of doing things; to put it bluntly, she was all about profit.
She valued profit and was quite ambitious. When she felt confident enough to make a move, she would do it decisively and hit her target in one shot.
The original host was hit with one such shot.
This time, it was also by chance that the original host learned about the recruitment exam. Knowing her elder sister’s ambitions, how could she not? She purposely came back to tell her second sister about it.
Xu Jingping knew herself well. Although the recruitment was for employees’ children, the competition would surely be fierce. She figured she probably wouldn’t pass the exam, but the opportunity was truly rare.
Since she graduated, she hadn’t heard of any recruitment opportunities anywhere. If it weren’t for her younger sister (the third child) telling her today, she wouldn’t have known about it at all.
She really didn’t want to miss this chance, so she came up with a plan to “substitute one thing for another.”
She had the original host take the exam for her, and in the end, she got the job!
Look at that! Such cleverness is truly impressive! Under the onslaught of her elder sister’s pleading words and sorrowful tears, the original host couldn’t resist and agreed to it.
The original host eventually passed the exam, but all she got in return was a private “Thank you, Jing’an. You’re so kind!” from the second sister—and nothing else.
That one “good person card” lasted the original host until her death. How costly!
Calculating the time, there’s still one month left, so everything can still be done!
The best news now is that she finally has her own space. The book disappeared after she finished reading it, but the space remains.
The immediate priority is to take off the layered underwear she’s been wearing, which is stuffed with money, and put it into the space.
For the past year, she has been wearing double-layered underwear, changing the inner one each time, and then putting it back on.
There were many people in the family and little space. The room she shared with her second sister had only three pieces of furniture: a 1.5-meter-wide bed, a nearly broken 1-meter-long desk, and a box measuring 1 meter long, half a meter wide, and half a meter high.
Everything in the room was shared, and there was no place to hide anything. Besides, this money was life itself. If she didn’t keep it tightly in her sight and feel it every day, she wouldn’t feel at ease.
