Her Eyes Say She Likes You - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The Model Student and the Problem Child
In the days following the meeting at “Half-Sugar Coffee,” Wei Jia felt light and floaty, as if she were stepping on grape-flavored clouds.
She quickly settled into her role, and the draft for Dong Yan’s new serialization [name] arrived, filling her with even more pleasant surprise.
The lines were smooth, the panels were highly cinematic, and the emotional pacing was delicate. Most importantly, the file quietly and perfectly landed in her inbox right on the morning of the deadline.
Only Jia: Teacher!!! [name] received!!! It’s too perfect!!! That gaze, that composition—it feels like a heartbeat! It tastes like Skittles exploding on the tongue! (Spinning, leaping, eyes closed.jpg)
Eyes: Glad you like it.
Only Jia: Not just like! I adore it! I worship it! (Kitten bowing head.gif)
In contrast, another chat window on her WeChat appeared particularly “heavy.”
Fluoride Code King: Gu Yu—save me—help me draw a background! Just one panel! Just one panel! The plot is suffering from creative block! (Followed immediately by a cat tilting its head innocently.gif)
Gu Yu: …Send me the address. I’ll bring supper over tonight. (The reply was calm and unruffled, clearly accustomed to the situation.)
Wei Jia looked at these two distinct windows and couldn’t help but let out a small, self-satisfied sigh of superiority at her workstation.
“Wow!” she muttered to herself, her eyes sparkling at the computer screen. “Our Teacher Eyes is simply an angel descended to Earth, a model student reincarnated!”
Gleefully, she screenshotted the chat with Dong Yan (cautiously blurring out Dong Yan’s name and avatar) and sent it to a group chat shared only by her, Gu Yu, and Fu Zhi. This group, named “The Editor and Her Unlucky Artists,” was started by Gu Yu after Wei Jia and Fu Zhi had a rough start at an anime convention, and it was meant for “mutual torment.”

Only Jia: @AllMembers Look at this! This is what you call efficiency! What you call quality! What you call a divine teacher who saves the editor any trouble! (Proud chest puff.jpg)
Fluoride Code King: ? Fluoride Code King: Wei Jia, what are you implying? Are you being sarcastic? (Angry cat emoji.jpg) Fluoride Code King: @GuYu She’s bullying me!
Gu Yu: … Gu Yu: Jia Jia, restrain yourself. Gu Yu: (To Fluoride Code King) Did you finish your draft?
Fluoride Code King: …Gu Yu, why are you like this too! I’m going to draw right now! (Vanishing on the spot.gif)
Wei Jia watched Fu Zhi throw a fit in the group chat and laughed even more smugly, typing rapidly:
Only Jia: @GuYu Sister Yu, I call this the flaunting of happiness~ You wouldn’t understand~ (Waving head back and forth)
Only Jia: Our teacher is obedient and talented, and she never misses a deadline! [Bold and emphasized]
After sending that, she immediately switched back to her private chat window with Dong Yan, her tone shifting instantly from smugness to gentle consideration:
(Double standards.)
Only Jia: Teacher! I’ve finished reading the draft. Shall we discuss a few small points over the phone? About ten minutes, so I don’t interrupt your creation time~
Only Jia: (Kitten sitting politely.jpg)
Dong Yan’s reply was still concise and prompt:
Eyes: Okay, now is fine.
Wei Jia clutched her phone, feeling enveloped by a vast, satisfying sense of happiness.
She recalled how Fu Zhi had tormented Gu Yu since middle school. While her drawing skills soared, her ability to delay submissions and make excuses also grew. And Gu Yu, that woman whose emotions were as stable as a precision instrument, had indulged her for over a decade.
She used to think Gu Yu simply had a good temper.
Now, she suddenly understood a little.
When you meet someone truly compatible and genuinely luminous, the so-called “emotional stability” principle is probably just waiting to be broken.
Just like her now, she wanted to pluck the stars and moon from the sky and embed them in Dong Yan’s manga, all for the price of one gentle “Okay.”
And she was willing.
