Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 14
For an entire afternoon, Mu Jin excitedly chatted about genetics.
They had started indoors, but moved outside to avoid disturbing others.
This was the first time Lu Chan had heard Mu Jin speak so passionately and at such length. Her dark, bright eyes seemed to glow with an unquenchable light.
In Lu Chan’s memory, her young wife was usually quiet, always wearing a gentle smile and speaking softly. This cheerful, animated version of Mu Jin felt like a completely different person.
Compared to her usual demeanor, Lu Chan much preferred seeing Mu Jin’s face radiant with joy.
“Sister Chan, thank you for listening to me talk so much. I’m just so happy today that I got carried away,” Mu Jin said, lowering her head shyly, her cheeks flushed. After a pause, she added, “Let me treat you to something delicious.”
“What kind of delicious?” Lu Chan asked.
“There’s a street food stall that’s especially good,” Mu Jin replied happily, her eyes sparkling.
But as soon as the words left her lips, the smile on her face faded.
The place she was referring to was a modest eatery, its ambiance and flavors far inferior to the upscale restaurants Lu Chan frequented.
Moreover, Lu Chan, dressed in designer clothes and exuding an air of refined elegance, seemed utterly out of place at a roadside stall.
She shouldn’t have said that at all.
“Let’s go,” Lu Chan said, standing up.
Mu Jin’s head snapped up, her eyes wide with disbelief. Recovering quickly, she smiled and said, “Sister Chan, let’s skip it today. I’ll treat you somewhere else another time.”
“It’s all the same. I happen to be free today, so let’s go try Xiao Jin’s favorite food,” Lu Chan replied, her lips curving slightly into a smile, her expression as cool and detached as ever.
Mu Jin paused, lowered her head, and chuckled softly, occasionally glancing up at Lu Chan.
Lu Chan’s perfect profile was both beautiful and sharp, her straight nose standing tall above her face. Combined with her piercing, icy gaze, she exuded an overwhelming aura of authority and intimidation.
Beneath this seemingly cold exterior lay a deeply gentle nature, simply unable to express itself.
Lu Chan could feel the gaze beside her, silently relishing the admiration and awe in Mu Jin’s eyes.
“Sister Chan, I’ll take the bus. What about you?” Mu Jin pointed to the bus stop sign.
A bus drove past them, packed with people of all kinds, their faces blank and expressionless as they crammed together.
Lu Chan’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I’ll take the bus too.”
Mu Jin couldn’t help but giggle. After a moment’s thought, she asked, “Sister Chan, have you ever ridden a bus before?”
“No,” Lu Chan replied, her expression indifferent.
She always traveled by chauffeur-driven car or drove herself, never having taken public transportation.
She once heard a friend say he had squeezed onto a bus for two hours just to see his girlfriend.
Everyone had laughed at him then.
Lu Chan had merely listened impassively, unable to understand her friend’s actions.
Now, she finally understood a little better.
The bus arrived quickly. Mu Jin had change and dropped four coins into the fare box.
Although they could have paid with their phones, she worried Lu Chan wouldn’t know how.
The bus was already crowded, and Lu Chan and Mu Jin were gradually pushed toward the back door by the passengers boarding behind them.
Just as they were about to be separated, Lu Chan wrapped her arm around Mu Jin’s shoulder, pulling her close.
“Careful, hold onto me,” Lu Chan murmured, leaning down.
Mu Jin’s face flushed crimson. She pressed her lips together and cautiously wrapped her arms around Lu Chan’s arm.
Though the bus jolted occasionally, being held in Lu Chan’s arms made her feel utterly safe.
Mu Jin lowered her head, the corners of her lips curving upward.
The bus was filled with the mingled scents of perfume, sweat, and occasionally the pheromones unintentionally released by Alphas.
Lu Chan, with her keen sense of smell, felt a faint throbbing in her forehead from the chaotic mix of scents.
She frowned, forcing herself to endure it.
Though uncomfortable, Lu Chan didn’t regret her decision.
She wanted to experience Mu Jin’s life, to understand the person in her arms better, and to create more shared topics of conversation between them.
“Sister Chan, are you alright?” Mu Jin asked, looking up with concern in her eyes.
“I’m fine,” Lu Chan replied curtly, her icy expression betraying no hint of discomfort.
Mu Jin immediately relaxed, carefully leaning a little closer into Lu Chan’s embrace. Her round eyes gazed out the window at the passing scenery, as if by chance.
Lu Chan couldn’t help but smile. Lowering her gaze thoughtfully, she leaned down to rest her head on Mu Jin’s shoulder, sniffing gently. “Xiao Jin’s scent is much more pleasant,” she murmured.
Mu Jin’s face flushed crimson instantly, her body stiffening as she felt Lu Chan’s warm breath near her ear.
“I’m a bit carsick,” Lu Chan explained, “smelling Xiao Jin’s scent will help.” With this excuse, she tightened her arms around Mu Jin, openly resting her head on the younger woman’s shoulder and shamelessly enjoying the comforting fragrance.
Though Mu Jin didn’t possess Omega pheromones, to Lu Chan, her scent was equally alluring.
Mu Jin could feel Lu Chan’s rhythmic breathing against her neck. Any movement would bring her into closer contact with the warm body pressed against her back.
Her cheeks flushed crimson, and the corners of her lips couldn’t help but curve upward.
After a twenty-minute bus ride, they arrived at their destination.
The fresh air outside seemed to soothe Lu Chan’s throbbing nerves.
“Sister Chan, how are you feeling?” Mu Jin asked anxiously.
Lu Chan shook her head, glanced at the bustling street ahead, and said in a low voice, “Let’s go.”
“Okay!” Mu Jin nodded cheerfully and led the way.
The pedestrian street was lined with various food stalls. Despite it being a weekday, the crowds were still considerable.
The snack Mu Jin had mentioned was a wonton shop she had visited several times before, and the owner already recognized her.
The shop was quite busy, but fortunately, there were still a few empty seats.
Lu Chan scanned the room, her delicate brows furrowing slightly. Her Alpha’s heightened sense of smell proved to be a nuisance in this situation.
The mingled aromas of street food wafted into her nostrils, creating a strange, overwhelming scent that assaulted her senses and completely killed her appetite.
“Sister Chan, try some! It’s delicious,” Mu Jin said cheerfully, bringing over two bowls of wontons.
Lu Chan glanced at them.
The broth looked unappetizing, the wontons were poorly wrapped, and the seasonings were clearly of inferior quality.
After a moment of silence, Lu Chan forced herself to ignore the pungent odors around her.
She picked up a spoon, took a bite, chewed expressionlessly, and swallowed, refusing to take another bite.
“Sister Chan, don’t you like it?” Mu Jin asked cautiously, scrutinizing both bowls of wontons.
Her own bowl tasted delicious, but Lu Chan’s expression suggested it was awful.
“I’m not hungry,” Lu Chan replied flatly, her brow furrowing visibly.
Mu Jin lowered her gaze, thought for a moment, quickly finished her own bowl, and looked up with a demure smile. “Sister Chan, it’s getting late. Let’s head back.”
“Alright,” Lu Chan said, immediately standing up.
Her tall, elegant figure stood out conspicuously in the cramped shop, yet seemed utterly out of place.
Mu Jin’s eyes darkened.
Her world was ordinary and mundane; she shouldn’t force others to fit into it.
Lu Chan was a celestial being, untouched by worldly concerns, and they belonged to entirely different realms.
