Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 17
In the quiet room, Yan Zhu sat on the edge of the bed, her expression unusually solemn.
Mu Jin stood beside her, leaning down to embrace her affectionately, nuzzling her shoulder. She tilted her head back, a bright smile on her face. “Mom, I know about your relationship with the Yan Family. I won’t try to claim them as relatives.”
Hearing this, Yan Zhu sighed, tears welling up in her weathered eyes as she held Mu Jin tightly.
As the second child of the Yan Family, with an older brother and a younger sister, she had always been overlooked.
Yet she never gave up on herself, striving to excel in everything she did.
Though her parents hadn’t shown her much affection, they had never neglected her basic needs.
Everything changed when she differentiated into a Beta at eighteen.
The Yan Family consisted entirely of A+ Class differentiators, making her the sole Beta and an outcast in their midst.
Her father regarded her as a disgrace, forbidding her from sharing meals with the family.
Her brother and sister subjected her to constant ridicule and scorn.
Yan Zhu, proud and headstrong, couldn’t endure the Yan Family’s monstrous stares. In a fit of anger, she severed all ties with them.
Using her savings, she worked part-time while completing her university studies.
The Yan Family ignored her existence until her wedding day, when they sent people to disrupt the ceremony.
The most important day of her life had been reduced to a farce.
In this lifetime, she would never return to the Yan Family.
“Xiao Jin, I’m so sorry. If I hadn’t taken you to beg them, you wouldn’t have ended up like this…” Yan Zhu wept uncontrollably, her voice trembling with sobs.
“Mom, don’t cry. I’m doing fine now,” Mu Jin said with a gentle smile, reaching out to wipe away her mother’s tears.
Yan Zhu’s tears only flowed harder. She stroked Mu Jin’s head, her voice hoarse with worry. “Xiao Jin, Lu Chan comes from a noble family. We can’t afford to associate with them. Don’t get too close to her.”
The Lu Family’s power and status far surpassed the Yan Family’s. Even her father had to show utmost respect to Lu Chan’s grandfather.
Yan Yi’s hasty departure today was also due to her fear of the Lu Family’s influence.
For the Lu Family to crush them, mother and daughter, would be as simple as uttering a single word.
Those high-ranking Alphas looked down on others from the depths of their bones. How could Old Master Lu ever allow his most outstanding granddaughter to associate with an un-differentiated person?
Even friendship would be considered a sacrilege in their eyes.
“Mom, don’t worry. I know my limits,” Mu Jin said with a soft smile, nestling into Yan Zhu’s embrace.
But behind that smile, her bright eyes had grown dark and troubled.
Lu Chan returned home from work and immediately noticed the butler’s grave expression.
“Miss Chan, Chairman Lu is looking for you. He wants you to go to his residence immediately.”
Hearing this, Lu Chan immediately thought of the incident involving the Duan Family mother and daughter earlier that day.
But two A+ Class Omegas wouldn’t be enough to alarm my grandfather, she reasoned.
After changing into a fresh set of clothes, Lu Chan headed to Old Master Lu’s villa.
As she entered, she saw everyone kneeling rigidly on the ground.
Her grandfather sat on the sofa, leaning on his cane. His seemingly benevolent face radiated an intimidating aura.
Accustomed to such scenes, Lu Chan walked forward and stood before him. “Grandfather, what do you need me for?”
“Alright, you may all leave,” Lu Wensheng commanded the servants, his aged voice carrying undeniable authority.
The servants didn’t dare breathe loudly as they retreated in perfect unison.
Those who worked at Old Master Lu’s villa knew that the old man placed immense value on differentiation class, only hiring young Alphas with A+ Class or higher.
Though the rules were strict, the compensation was generous. More importantly, the Lu Family was the wealthiest in the region, wielding unparalleled status, power, and influence across all sectors.
Working for the Lu Family was a dream for many, even if it meant doing the dirtiest and most exhausting tasks.
Just crossing the Lu Family’s threshold was considered proof of one’s capabilities.
Moreover, working there meant interacting with the Alphas and Omegas of high society, a world completely different from their original circles.
Even leaving the Lu Family was something to brag about to others.
Lu Chan glanced at the crowd and noticed it had grown larger.
As her grandfather aged, he became increasingly obsessed with controlling others.
He trained the villa’s servants like ancient-era slaves, making kneeling and kowtowing a common occurrence.
Though some initially resisted these humiliating rules, the allure of wealth and power eventually assimilated them, making such practices commonplace.
As younger family members, they couldn’t openly criticize the Old Master’s methods.
And Lu Chan had no interest in meddling in such trivial matters.
“I hear you’ve been spending a lot of time with your mother recently?” Lu Wensheng said with a smile, his tone seemingly warm and amiable.
Lu Chan knew all too well the danger and cruelty hidden behind that smile. Her expression remained unchanged as she nodded.
Since the Old Master wouldn’t reveal his true intentions, she saw no point in trying to guess.
Playing games with him required patience above all else. The first to lose their composure would inevitably lose.
“Your mother often stayed out late when you were young, and who knows what kind of unsavory people she associated with. She’d come home in a frenzy,” Lu Wensheng sighed, his aged face etched with bitterness. “I struggled to raise you, hoping you would one day inherit the Lu Family’s legacy. You must never follow your mother’s bad example and associate with low-class people.”
“I understand,” Lu Chan replied coldly.
Though her expression seemed obedient, she paid no real attention to his words.
Lu Wensheng sighed again, his hands trembling as he gripped his cane. “Lu Chan, you’re grown now, and I know you have your own ideas. But remember, you represent the Lu Family. Any misstep will bring shame upon us all.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan murmured, appearing perfectly compliant.
Lu Wensheng felt a sense of futility, like punching cotton. He coughed twice and continued earnestly, “Most Alphas wouldn’t associate with Betas, let alone our Lu Family. If this gets out, who knows how many people will ridicule us behind our backs? How am I supposed to face your deceased father?”
By the end, Old Master Lu was coughing more violently, his face etched with sorrow and grief.
“I understand,” Lu Chan repeated, her icy gaze unwavering.
“I hope you truly understand, and don’t force your grandfather to teach you,” Lu Wensheng said with a benevolent smile, emphasizing the last part.
Lu Chan caught the underlying meaning in his words, a flicker of darkness crossing her cold eyes.
She bowed respectfully to Old Master Lu and withdrew with dignified deference.
Lu Wensheng smiled in satisfaction, his kind face now tinged with ruthlessness.
He could tolerate Lu Chan’s mother staying out all night—after all, the woman had given the Lu Family an S-Class Alpha.
Out of consideration for Lu Chan and the Ye Family, he wouldn’t make things difficult for Ye Xian.
But he absolutely couldn’t allow a mute born to a low-class Beta to tarnish the Lu Family’s reputation.
As the future heir, Lu Chan’s association with such inferiors would disgrace the Lu Family’s honor.
