Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 20
As Lu Chan drove out of the underground garage, she spotted a black car parked not far from the hotel entrance.
She immediately swerved in the opposite direction, leaving the area.
The black car remained stationary, seemingly unaware of her maneuver.
Relieved, Lu Chan drove to the vicinity of the dessert shop.
She parked a distance away and continued on foot, walking along the street.
Suddenly, her eyes flashed, and she darted into a nearby alley, disappearing into the shadows.
Through the darkness, she observed a black car parked near the dessert shop.
After careful observation, Lu Chan confirmed that the occupants were the men her grandfather had sent to monitor Mu Jin’s family.
If she were spotted here, her grandfather would know immediately.
The Old Master was meticulous, leaving no room for error.
A cold glint flashed in Lu Chan’s eyes as she stood motionless in the shadows, refusing to move forward.
From her vantage point, she could see people entering and leaving the dessert shop, and even her mother’s silhouette seated by the window.
She couldn’t quite make out the faces of the people inside.
Lu Chan leaned against the wall, her sharp eyes fixed on the dessert shop, occasionally glancing at the black car parked nearby.
Though she longed to sit inside, to catch a glimpse of Mu Jin, she couldn’t reveal herself.
The alley was unlit, and no light penetrated from the surrounding area. Dressed in a black dress, Lu Chan blended seamlessly into the darkness.
Even passersby failed to notice her presence.
Lu Chan watched silently until she finally spotted a familiar figure by the window.
A faint smile curved her lips, but just then her phone rang.
Glancing down, she saw it was Ye Xian calling. Without hesitation, she hung up and silenced her phone.
Moments later, her screen lit up again.
It was Mu Jin calling.
Lu Chan’s eyes flickered as she stared at the window. She pressed the power button, letting the screen go dark.
She neither hung up nor answered, waiting for the ringtone to fade naturally.
Ye Xian held Mu Jin’s phone and stubbornly dialed Lu Chan’s number several times, but each time it went unanswered.
Frustrated, she pouted, put down the phone, and said to Mu Jin, “Lu Chan must still be busy.”
Hearing this, Mu Jin pressed her lips together and lowered her gaze.
Since their last encounter, Lu Chan had never ordered afternoon tea from their shop again.
When Mu Jin finally mustered the courage to call, she was met only with a mechanical, colorful ringtone.
She probably hates me now, Mu Jin thought.
Lu Chan was a prodigy, showered with countless accolades and surrounded by exceptional Omegas. Why would she care about an ordinary, undifferentiated person like Mu Jin?
The only reason Lu Chan had spoken up for her that day was likely out of respect for their elders.
The gulf between them was as vast as the difference between clouds and mud. Even being ordinary friends was a distant dream.
The more Mu Jin thought about it, the more miserable she felt. She stood up abruptly, grabbed a bag of cat food from the cabinet, and headed out.
Yan Zhu frowned, her voice tinged with concern. “It’s so late. The kittens are already asleep. You can feed them tomorrow.”
Yan Zhu could see that Mu Jin had been deeply downcast these past few days, her mind elsewhere as she worked, making careless mistakes.
Even the books she usually enjoyed couldn’t hold her attention; she often found herself staring blankly at her phone.
“I’ll be back soon,” Mu Jin typed, her head bowed. With that, she grabbed the cat food and headed out.
As she stepped outside, a cool breeze brushed through her hair. Mu Jin smoothed her strands, then suddenly glanced at the dark alley across the street, as if struck by a realization.
It was pitch black.
She blinked, looked away, and continued walking forward, her head lowered.
The two kittens weren’t asleep yet. Hearing her approach, they darted out from the shadows.
With fewer people around at night, the kittens were bolder, circling around Mu Jin’s feet.
Mu Jin smiled softly, crouched down, and scattered the cat food on the ground.
The kittens devoured the food quickly, their ears twitching as they scanned their surroundings.
Watching them eat, Mu Jin’s spirits lifted slightly. She chuckled softly, stroked Xiao Hua Cat’s head, and murmured silently, “I’ll come back tomorrow.”
Xiao Hua Cat purred contentedly, rubbing against Mu Jin’s hand.
Nearby, Xiao Hu Cat sat aloofly, grooming its paw.
“What are these stray cats doing here again?” a woman’s sharp voice rang out from behind, full of impatience. “If you want to feed them, do it somewhere else. Not in front of my shop!”
Hearing the woman’s voice, the two cats darted away.
Mu Jin turned to see the woman’s angry face and immediately got up to leave.
The shop owner had a bad temper and always scolded her for feeding the cats.
She hadn’t walked far when she heard a cat’s pitiful cry from behind.
Mu Jin whirled around to see the woman chasing the cats with a broom.
The two kittens scrambled across the road in panic. One of them, in its desperate flight, dashed across the street and disappeared into the darkness.
Mu Jin rushed forward anxiously, trying to intervene.
The woman had already stopped, broom in hand, and was stomping back to her shop, cursing at the cats as she went.
When she saw Mu Jin, she rolled her eyes and spat to the side.
“If you had a little more compassion and decency, your business wouldn’t be so dead,” Mu Jin typed furiously, her dark, glistening eyes fixed on the woman’s movements.
Seeing the woman hurl the broom at her, Mu Jin nimbly dodged it and kicked the broom even farther away.
The woman immediately erupted into a torrent of curses, making as if to chase after Mu Jin.
Mu Jin smirked and darted forward.
Unable to catch her, the woman retreated, muttering curses as she retrieved her broom.
Ignoring the woman’s tirade, Mu Jin ran to the flowerbed and found Xiao Hua Cat hiding inside.
She cradled the kitten, soothing it until it gradually calmed down. The cat’s round, glistening eyes stared across the street, occasionally letting out a soft meow.
“Let’s go find Xiao Hu Cat,” Mu Jin murmured, crossing the road while continuing to stroke the kitten’s fur.
The area was dimly lit, and without her phone, she had to rely on the faint streetlights to search.
After searching for a while, she still couldn’t find Xiao Hu Cat.
Mu Jin glanced around, pondering where the kitten might be hiding.
Just then, Xiao Hua Cat leaped from her arms and trotted off in a particular direction.
Mu Jin immediately followed.
Entering a pitch-black alley, she paused to let her eyes adjust to the darkness.
A series of high and low-pitched meows echoed through the alley, and Mu Jin’s lips curved into a delighted smile.
As the meows grew louder, she gradually made out the silhouettes of two kittens.
“I’m so glad you’re safe,” Mu Jin said, crouching down to stroke their heads. “From now on, if you’re in danger, run to the flowerbeds, not across the road. There are too many cars here—it’s very dangerous.”
The calico kitten purred obediently, rubbing against Mu Jin’s ankle. Its long whiskers brushed against her delicate skin, making her chuckle softly as she leaned back.
Suddenly, her smile froze. She stood up and reached out to touch the wall.
Feeling the warmth beneath her palm, Mu Jin was startled. She sniffed the air intently.
She seemed to detect a faint scent of lime.
Mu Jin’s eyes curved into a smile as she picked up the two kittens and stepped out of the dark alley.
In the distance, the skyscrapers shimmered with vibrant colors, a dazzling sight that lifted her spirits.
