Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 21
Lu Chan drove back to the bar.
The black car parked nearby remained completely unaware of her return.
Seeing Lu Chan enter, Qi Bujiao stood up excitedly and exclaimed, “My wife has confirmed she’s coming back! I’ll help you pick up Mu Jin when the time comes.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan nodded, tossing her car keys to him.
Qi Bujiao caught the keys and couldn’t resist asking, “Where did you go just now?”
“Just took a drive around the neighborhood to get some fresh air,” Lu Chan replied, settling into a seat and pouring herself a drink. She sipped it slowly.
Qi Bujiao noticed Lu Chan’s improved mood and grinned mischievously. “Lu Chan, when are you planning to get married? I’m dying to know what kind of Omega could finally catch your eye.”
“I’ll get married when the time is right,” Lu Chan replied coolly, taking another sip of her drink.
She longed to marry Mu Jin immediately, but reality wouldn’t allow it.
To avoid repeating the tragedies of her past life, she still had much to do.
At the very least, she couldn’t sacrifice Mu Jin’s dreams again.
“If you wanted to get married, there are plenty of wealthy Omega families in W City, and even in the Capital, who would want to marry you. But you always keep people at arm’s length with that cold expression. Tell me, if someone married you, wouldn’t they have to face an ice block every day? And what if your future wife isn’t good with words either? Wouldn’t you two just stare at each other awkwardly? Don’t glare at me! I’m just hypothesizing, purely hypothesizing,” Qi Bujiao said with a sigh, unable to stop herself.
Meeting Lu Chan’s cold gaze, she quickly stopped talking and lowered her head to drink.
“It’s almost ten. You should go home,” Lu Chan said, setting down her glass. Her eyes still held a hint of annoyance as she looked at Qi Bujiao.
Unlike Qi Bujiao, who could chat about any topic all day long, Lu Chan wasn’t one for idle chatter. Even if the other person remained silent, Qi Bujiao could carry on a conversation from start to finish without a moment of awkward silence.
Marrying Mu Jin must have been rather boring, or perhaps just… dull.
“Already ten? I should get going then. Let’s have another drink sometime,” Qi Bujiao said with a smile, rising to her feet and heading for the door with her keys.
Lu Chan didn’t try to stop her.
Qi Bujiao had always been the epitome of a well-behaved child, always home before ten o’clock and never staying out overnight.
No matter who she went out with, she always proactively reported her whereabouts to her wife.
Unfortunately, her wife was too busy to ever check up on her.
Lu Chan poured herself another drink, her mind still clear, filled only with images of Mu Jin.
She watched Mu Jin leave, her slender figure looking delicate and fragile, the hem of her skirt billowing in the wind in graceful arcs.
Like a nocturnal sprite, beautiful and endearing.
When Mu Jin crouched down to feed the cat, the faint smile on her lips radiated warmth and tenderness.
Exactly like the little wife Lu Chan remembered.
But Mu Jin also possessed a clever and mischievous side. Confronting that fierce woman, she showed no fear, even managing to tease her in return.
Watching Mu Jin kick over the broom with a triumphant flourish, her delicate face lit up with a sly, mischievous grin, Lu Chan couldn’t help but chuckle.
At the Lu Family, Mu Jin had always presented herself as docile and obedient, like a clawless cat—gentle and harmless.
This time, Mu Jin had surprised her with many unexpected facets, allowing Lu Chan to rediscover the true nature of her little wife.
Lu Chan drove out in her own car.
Before long, a black car began following her.
Given the Old Master’s vigilance, she would likely have to remain cautious until Mu Jin’s differentiation.
The trailing car disappeared only after she returned to the villa.
As Lu Chan entered, she raised an eyebrow at the figure seated on the sofa.
“Mom,” she greeted coldly, then turned to walk upstairs.
Seeing this, Ye Xian immediately rose, her face beaming as she approached.
She reached out to take Lu Chan’s arm, but when she met that icy gaze, she quickly withdrew.
“Chanchan, I’ve been waiting for you for so long! Why are you so late?” Ye Xian pouted, her voice aggrieved as she looked at Lu Chan accusingly. “You didn’t even answer my calls. Are you really that busy with work?”
“What do you want?” Lu Chan asked, unmoved, her expression indifferent.
“I brought you a special dessert, but you’re being so cold! It’s not cute at all—it breaks my heart,” Ye Xian cooed, feigning tears as she dabbed at her eyes.
Lu Chan glanced at the coffee table, walked over, picked up the dessert, and said flatly, “Thank you.”
After saying this, she went straight upstairs.
Ye Xian stood rooted to the spot, her eyes darkening.
After a long moment, she sighed.
She had thought Lu Chan had truly changed, no longer cold and heartless.
In reality, it had all been her illusion.
Lu Chan hadn’t changed at all. She remained as icy and emotionless as ever.
Back in her room, Lu Chan stared intently at the small dessert, scrutinizing every detail.
The base was heart-shaped, topped with a half-oval layer, predominantly in shades of cyan, adorned with delicate white cream swirls that gave it a refreshing appearance.
Lu Chan took a bite, savoring the subtle sweetness on her tongue.
A faint smile curved her lips, a hint of amusement flickering in her eyes.
This dessert had been made by Mu Jin, and it was remarkably fresh.
In high spirits, Lu Chan finished the dessert and picked up her phone to send Mu Jin a thank-you message.
But just as she was about to press send, her eyes flickered, her expression turning serious. She paused, withdrawing her finger.
She had to restrain herself, not let the Old Master suspect anything.
Lu Chan tossed her phone aside and went to take a shower.
In the brightly lit room, several graduate school entrance exam preparation books lay open on Mu Jin’s desk.
After reading a few lines, her gaze involuntarily drifted to her phone beside her.
The screen remained dark—no messages, no calls.
Mu Jin lowered her head, picked up her phone, and opened a specific chat window.
As she scrolled through past messages, her eyes gradually grew sore.
The last message had been sent a week ago.
Yan Zhu pushed open the door, half her body still hidden outside, and said softly, “Xiao Jin, it’s getting late. You should rest now and study more tomorrow.”
Mu Jin nodded hastily, quickly tucking her phone between the pages of a book.
Yan Zhu saw the movement clearly. After a moment of silence, she advised, “Xiao Jin, focus on your graduate school exams and don’t worry about other things. Your mother doesn’t want you to be rich or famous, just safe and happy your whole life.”
Mu Jin’s eyes flickered. She pressed her lips together, offering no response.
She understood the meaning behind Yan Zhu’s words and her mother’s good intentions.
“Mom, you’ve worked hard all day. Go get some rest,” Mu Jin said, looking up with a sweet smile.
Her bright eyes held her own determination.
Yan Zhu sighed inwardly and closed the door as she left.
