Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 22
Today was Qi Bujiao’s birthday, which happened to fall on a Friday.
Lu Chan hadn’t even gotten out of bed when Qi Bujiao called.
She opened her eyes and saw it was 4:00 AM.
“Speak,” Lu Chan answered, squeezing out a single word from her indifferent lips.
“Lu Chan, my wife won’t be finished with work until 6:00 PM tonight. I need to pick her up, so I’ll be back around 8:00 PM. I’ll send someone to pick up Mu Jin as soon as I leave. Can you go early and help me greet her?” Qi Bujiao said excitedly, her eyes shining despite having been awake all night.
“Mm, I understand,” Lu Chan replied, the frost on her face melting away. After a moment, she asked, “Who did you invite?”
“My dad, my sister, my aunt and her daughter, and my uncle—just family. Tell Mu Jin not to feel awkward,” Qi Bujiao answered cheerfully, counting on her fingers.
“Mm,” Lu Chan said, relieved.
As long as no one from other families was invited, there wouldn’t be any problems.
The Qi Family had a warm and genuine demeanor, treating everyone with sincerity, unlike others who emphasized bloodlines and differentiation hierarchies.
Mu Jin wouldn’t be mocked there.
After a long day at work, Lu Chan drove to the location of the birthday banquet.
To accommodate his wife’s schedule, Qi Bujiao had chosen a somewhat remote venue: a seaside villa in the northern part of the city.
The drive took Lu Chan an hour.
As she arrived, she noticed a car parked in front of the villa. A meticulously dressed woman stepped out.
Her sky-blue midi skirt exuded a fresh and elegant charm. The simple yet sophisticated design accentuated her slender waist and graceful curves, while the off-the-shoulder cut revealed her delicate collarbones, adding a touch of understated sensuality to her refined look.
Lu Chan glanced in the rearview mirror.
The car that had been following her remained parked outside, not entering the villa grounds.
She opened her car door. Just then, the woman ahead turned around, her face lighting up with a sweet smile when she saw Lu Chan.
“Sister Chan!” Mu Jin waved, her adorable face beaming with joy.
Lu Chan nodded, closed her car door, and walked over with an air of composure. As she passed Mu Jin, she murmured, “You look beautiful in that skirt.”
Hearing this, Mu Jin’s fair cheeks flushed crimson from the warmth of Lu Chan’s breath. Her hands twisted nervously together.
Watching Lu Chan’s tall figure disappear inside, Mu Jin couldn’t help but curve her lips into a soft smile. She glanced down at the hem of her skirt.
Ye Xian had helped her choose this outfit—a sophisticated and elegant style that would ensure she wouldn’t be ridiculed at the Qi Family’s banquet.
Since it was still early, only one senior member of the Qi Family was present: Qi Bujiao’s aunt.
“Aunt Qi, where are Uncle Qi and the others?” Lu Chan asked as she approached.
“They’re still busy and won’t be here until later,” the woman replied with a warm smile, her face radiating kindness. She nodded and smiled at Mu Jin. “Miss Mu, welcome.”
“Thank you,” Mu Jin said, bowing politely.
Noticing the electronic device on Mu Jin’s chest, the woman’s expression briefly flickered with surprise before returning to its gentle warmth. “Miss Lu, please make yourselves comfortable. If you find it dull here, feel free to take a walk on the beach outside. This area is completely private, so no outsiders will bother you.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan nodded, glancing back at Mu Jin.
Mu Jin’s heart skipped a beat. Her fingers tightened around the small square device as she nodded nervously.
The beach was just outside, offering a clear view of the azure sea and the cries of seagulls.
Lu Chan scanned the area—they were indeed alone.
On the vast expanse of sand, only she and Mu Jin stood.
A sea breeze swept through, ruffling their hair and the hems of their skirts.
Mu Jin stood behind, silently watching Lu Chan’s cold, noble figure ahead.
Lowering her gaze in thought, she pursed her lips, mustered her courage, and stepped forward, tilting her head with a smile. “This place is truly beautiful.”
Lu Chan glanced sideways, studying Mu Jin’s smile for two seconds before restraining herself from turning fully. “Mm,” she murmured.
At that moment, she truly didn’t know what to say to lighten the mood.
For her, making small talk was even more challenging than negotiating with business rivals.
From childhood, she had been taught how to find her opponents’ weaknesses and defeat them.
No one had ever taught her how to simply chat with people.
“Sister Chan, the breeze here is so pleasant. Shall we take a walk?” Mu Jin asked with a gentle smile, her dark eyes hiding a hint of cautiousness.
“Mm,” Lu Chan nodded.
With Mu Jin leading the way and Lu Chan following behind, they strolled slowly along the shoreline.
Gazing at the petite figure ahead, Lu Chan repeatedly felt the urge to reach out and embrace her, but each time she suppressed the impulse.
The waves gently lapped against the sand, creating delicate patterns of ripples.
Mu Jin turned back with a radiant smile. “Sister Chan, there’s a bench over there. Let’s sit for a while.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan nodded, lowering her gaze. Her long lashes veiled the thoughts swirling in her eyes.
Mu Jin settled in the middle of the bench, her hands resting demurely on her lap, a soft smile playing on her lips.
Lu Chan sat stiffly at the edge, her posture ramrod straight, gazing straight ahead.
Only a hand’s breadth separated them; a slight shift would bring their shoulders into contact.
“Sister Chan, thank you for inviting me here,” Mu Jin said with a sweet smile, tilting her head to look at the woman beside her.
“You’re welcome,” Lu Chan replied, her voice cool and distant, her eyes as deep as the ocean.
She paused, about to speak, but stopped herself.
Mu Jin waited a moment, then smiled sweetly. “Sister Chan, you’re attending Miss Qi Bujiao’s birthday party. You must be very close?”
“Mm,” Lu Chan acknowledged.
She often attended birthday parties and other important events, but always on behalf of the Lu Group.
Qi Bujiao’s birthday was the only occasion she attended in her personal capacity.
“When did you two meet?” Mu Jin asked, her watery eyes brimming with curiosity.
“I don’t remember,” Lu Chan replied, her expression indifferent.
The atmosphere suddenly chilled. Mu Jin awkwardly tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, lowered her gaze, and stared at the sand beneath her feet.
Their footprints dotted the beach, marking their path.
If she had been wearing sandals, she could have waded into the sea to feel the waves.
But heels were impractical, so she could only walk along the shore.
The two women sat in silence, neither speaking.
A refreshing sea breeze occasionally swept across the beach, carrying the salty scent of the ocean. Seagulls circled overhead, their cries filling the air, creating a sense of tranquility that seemed to wash away all worries.
Mu Jin’s lips curved slightly as she savored this rare moment of solitude.
Even without conversation, simply sitting quietly together was enough.
