Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 23
The tranquility of the beach was shattered by a high-pitched female voice. Qi Bujiao’s excited shout carried on the wind:
“Lu Chan, Mu Jin, my wife is here!” Her voice, full of pride and boastfulness, was laced with laughter.
Hearing this, Mu Jin stood up and looked toward the villa.
Two women of similar height and slender builds stood on the villa steps.
The woman on the left had smiling eyes and raised her right hand high, waving in their direction.
The woman on the right possessed exquisite features and a stern expression, looking exactly as she did in magazines.
Mu Jin waved back and ran over happily.
Standing at the foot of the steps, her cheeks flushed and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Lu Chan followed closely behind, glaring at Qi Bujiao as she said coldly, “This is Mu Jin, my mother’s goddaughter.”
“Mu Jin, hello! You look so adorable,” Qi Bujiao said cheerfully. “Lu Chan mentioned you just graduated and are preparing for graduate school. What field are you planning to study? Do you have any schools in mind?”
Despite this being their first meeting, she acted as if they were old friends.
Mu Jin blushed, her obsidian eyes fixed on the serious-looking woman, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Seeing this, Qi Bujiao immediately chuckled, draped an arm around Yu Ning’s shoulder, and loudly introduced her: “This is my wife, Yu Ning, a professor at the research institute. She’s young, accomplished, and exceptionally talented. Everyone at the institute praises her!”
“Professor Yu, could I get your autograph? I’ve read all your works—every book, every published article—multiple times!” Mu Jin’s eyes sparkled with excitement, her typing hands trembling slightly, and a smile she couldn’t suppress tugged at her lips.
Lu Chan stood beside them, her expression growing colder.
“Miss Mu, I heard you haven’t differentiated yet. Would you be willing to share some information with me? I assure you, it will remain confidential,” Yu Ning said, her voice delicate yet carrying an unmistakable air of authority.
“My wife studies genetics and is naturally curious about this topic. I hope Miss Mu doesn’t mind,” Qi Bujiao quickly interjected with a smile, trying to ease the tension.
“It’s no problem at all,” Mu Jin said with a gentle smile, her eyes sparkling. “Professor Yu, please ask whatever you need. I’ll answer truthfully. If my data can help with your research, I’d be happy to contribute.”
Yu Ning paused, then nodded faintly. “Miss Mu, please come with me.”
Mu Jin followed obediently.
On the empty staircase, only Lu Chan and Qi Bujiao remained.
Lu Chan shot Qi Bujiao a sideways glance. “Your wife hasn’t changed a bit.”
“Don’t look at me like that! I’m just as frustrated as you are,” Qi Bujiao protested, his smug expression collapsing into dejection. He sighed heavily. “I told her beforehand not to discuss work, but her professional habits…Â sigh, they’re impossible to break.” He blinked and continued, “They could be talking for hours. Lu Chan, don’t be upset. Maybe after understanding the situation, my wife can help Mu Jin differentiate.”
Lu Chan’s gaze turned even colder. “We don’t need her help.”
“Why not? My wife is a professional, a professor-level expert with vast experience. She’s treated countless cases of undifferentiated individuals. She could definitely help Mu Jin!” Qi Bujiao retorted stubbornly.
Lu Chan glanced at him and went inside to find a seat.
Qi Bujiao followed, continuing to chatter, “Look at Mu Jin—her differentiation is a problem, and her speech is another. Once my wife understands her situation, she can definitely offer some help. What if she could even cure Mu Jin’s muteness? Wouldn’t that be wonderful? She’s such a young and lovely girl; she can’t spend her whole life carrying around that little square device.”
Hearing this, Lu Chan lowered her gaze and fell silent.
After their marriage, she had taken Mu Jin to the best otolaryngology hospital for a thorough examination.
The doctor explained that Mu Jin’s vocal cords were healthy, but a neurological blockage prevented her from speaking.
Despite several courses of medication, Mu Jin showed no improvement.
For Mu Jin, differentiation wasn’t the biggest problem.
It was that after differentiating, her pheromones had no scent.
For an Omega, this was a fatal flaw, rendering her unable to attract Alphas.
Lu Chan had concealed this truth from the outside world.
Otherwise, the Lu Family would never have allowed her to marry Mu Jin.
The two sat outside for an hour as the rest of the Qi Family gradually arrived.
Everyone gathered to chat while waiting for the pair inside to emerge.
“Bujiao, go check on them, or the food will get cold,” Qi Bujiao’s aunt said softly.
“Just a little longer. Ningning should be out soon,” Qi Bujiao reassured with a smile.
Since the guest of honor wasn’t in a hurry, no one else dared to press the matter.
Another half-hour passed before the tightly closed door finally opened, revealing a solemn figure.
Qi Bujiao immediately stood up, running over with a bright smile. “Honey, are you done chatting? We’re about to cut the cake!”
“You all go ahead. I still have experiments to run,” Yu Ning said coldly, walking toward the exit.
Qi Bujiao hurried after her, her smile unwavering, pleading almost desperately, “The cake won’t take long. It won’t delay you.”
Yu Ning’s expression remained grave, her pace unchanged.
Qi Bujiao quickly changed tack, pleading, “I’ll drive you.”
“Bujiao, driving back and forth will take at least three or four hours. By the time you return, your birthday will be over. Let the family driver take her,” Qi Bujiao’s aunt advised.
“No need, I’ll take her myself. You all enjoy the cake first; don’t wait for me. Lu Chan, Mu Jin, please don’t stand on ceremony. Aunt, please entertain them while I’m gone,” Qi Bujiao called out loudly, her voice fading into the distance.
“Oh, that child… Honestly, I’m so sorry. Please make yourselves at home,” Qi Bujiao’s aunt sighed, her gentle face etched with apology.
The rest of the Qi Family remained calmly seated, clearly accustomed to such situations.
Only Qi Bujiao’s younger sister wore a furious expression, restrained by the occasion from lashing out.
“It’s no problem at all. Thank you for your hospitality,” Mu Jin waved her hand with a soft smile.
She had been chatting with Yu Ning earlier and could sense that Yu Ning was a responsible and meticulous person in her work.
Though her demeanor was somewhat serious, she was kind and patient, never adopting an aloof, professorial air.
Yet witnessing this scene, Mu Jin couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy.
Yu Ning was young, accomplished, and successful—an Omega who had reached heights many Alphas could only dream of.
But her marriage seemed far from the blissful ideal.
