Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 24
Without Qi Bujiao, the protagonist, present, the birthday banquet felt considerably subdued, resembling a typical family gathering.
The only outsiders were Lu Chan and Mu Jin.
The Qi Family, known for their warm hospitality, kept the conversation flowing. Even when Lu Chan and Mu Jin remained silent, there were no awkward silences.
Qi Bujiao’s aunt, Qi Yingwan, studied Mu Jin for a moment before smiling warmly and saying, “Miss Mu, the more I look at you, the more you remind me of someone.”
Mu Jin’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.
Lu Chan immediately interjected, “Her mother is Yan Zhu, a close friend of my mother.”
Hearing this, the last trace of doubt vanished from Qi Yingwan’s eyes, and she laughed with genuine delight. “That explains why you seemed so familiar! You’re Yan Zhu’s daughter! You look just like your mother did when she was young.”
“Aunt Qi knew my mother?” Mu Jin blinked, her expression curious.
“We met a few times,” Qi Yingwan replied with a gentle smile.
The prominent families maintained connections, and over time, they all became acquainted.
“I see,” Mu Jin said with a soft smile.
With this connection established, the atmosphere at the table grew even more relaxed.
As Qi Yingwan shared amusing anecdotes from the past, Mu Jin occasionally chuckled along. These were stories her mother had never told her, and she found them fascinating and novel.
By the time the meal concluded, it was already past ten o’clock.
“Aunt Qi, thank you for your hospitality. It’s getting late, I should head back now,” Mu Jin said, rising with a polite smile.
“Alright, feel free to visit us anytime you’re free,” Qi Yingwan replied, standing up with a smile.
She personally escorted Mu Jin to the door, where they lingered, exchanging polite farewells.
Lu Chan, who had been following behind, glanced outside and said to Qi Yingwan, “Auntie, I’ll be going now. You two can continue chatting.”
“Okay, drive safe,” Qi Yingwan replied with a smile.
Lu Chan nodded, shot a quick glance at Mu Jin, and stepped down the stairs.
At this moment, she needed to be cautious.
Only by leaving first could she ensure that the car tailing her wouldn’t spot Mu Jin.
Watching Lu Chan’s slender figure recede into the distance, a flicker of disappointment crossed Mu Jin’s face.
She wanted to type a quick message, but Lu Chan’s car had already started moving.
Reluctantly, she released her fingers and watched the car disappear from view.
As soon as Lu Chan left the villa, the car behind her immediately gave chase.
Relieved, she abruptly slammed on the accelerator, leaving the pursuer in the dust.
The area was secluded, and with it being late at night, there was no other traffic.
Lu Chan quickly shook off the tail.
Now, her grandfather would surely know she was displeased.
Old Master Lu’s side soon received the news that Lu Chan had been lost.
The butler waited anxiously for the old man’s wrath, but to his surprise, Lu Wensheng simply chuckled.
“Alright, withdraw all the men.”
“Yes, Chairman.”
After Lu Chan left the house, she was no longer being followed.
Even so, she restrained herself from seeking out Mu Jin, continuing to work late at the office every day.
After a period of intense work, she finally secured a major collaboration.
Lu Chan’s improved mood brightened the office atmosphere considerably.
The tension that had gripped everyone’s hearts finally began to ease.
As the workday ended and others left, Lu Chan remained at her desk.
The computer she used for work was currently playing a lip-reading tutorial video.
If she mastered lip-reading, communication with Mu Jin would become much simpler, eliminating the need for electronic devices.
Lu Chan possessed an exceptional aptitude for languages and an outstanding learning ability.
Within just a month, she could master this skill.
As Lu Chan focused intently on her studies, her phone rang.
It was a call from the landline at the Old Master’s villa.
Lu Chan’s eyes flickered. She paused the video and answered the call.
A servant’s respectful voice came through the phone: “Miss Chan, please return home. The Chairman has something to discuss with you.”
“Understood,” Lu Chan replied coldly, hanging up and resuming her studies.
About twenty minutes later, the phone rang again, still from the landline.
Lu Chan ignored it.
When the ringing stopped, Old Master Lu’s personal cell phone called.
Only then did Lu Chan answer, saying coldly, “I’ll be back soon.”
Her curt reply choked back Lu Wensheng’s simmering anger.
Knowing Lu Chan was still upset about recent events, Lu Wensheng forced a gentle smile. “Lu Chan, your grandfather is waiting for you. There’s something important I need to discuss with you.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan responded dismissively before hanging up.
She shut down her computer, stood up, and left the room.
If she refused to return this time, the Old Master would undoubtedly send someone to fetch her.
Lu Chan returned to the villa and drove straight to the Old Master’s door.
She got out of the car and entered the house, her gaze sweeping across the room.
The servants stood in neat rows in the living room. As she passed, they greeted her in unison with respectful bows, “Miss Chan.”
Lu Chan strode through the crowd with an icy expression, stopping before the butler at the front. “Where’s my grandfather?” she demanded.
“The Chairman is in his study, waiting for you,” the butler replied with a deep bow. “Please go to him at once, Miss Chan.”
Lu Chan’s eyes turned glacial. “My grandfather’s health is failing. Why didn’t you urge him to rest earlier instead of letting him wait like this?”
The butler’s face tightened, and he quickly lowered his head. “The Chairman insisted on waiting for your return, Miss Chan. We couldn’t dissuade him.”
“Enough. I understand,” Lu Chan said coldly, her expression haughty.
The butler’s words were clearly scripted, meant to remind her of her duty.
Reaching the study, she pushed open the vermilion door and entered, her gaze sweeping the room.
Her eyes immediately fell on the photograph on the Old Master’s desk—a portrait of her father.
He stood in a perfectly tailored suit, his expression stern and unsmiling, bearing a striking resemblance to the Old Master in his younger days.
“Grandfather, what did you want to see me about?” Lu Chan asked, withdrawing her gaze, her tone icy.
Lu Wensheng picked up the photograph and sighed, his withered fingers caressing the image of the person in the picture. His aged face was filled with nostalgia. “You were only ten when your father passed away. Now, in the blink of an eye, nearly twenty years have gone by. By the time he was your age, he had already married and fathered you.”
Lu Chan stood silently, her expression blank.
Lu Wensheng rambled on for a while, but seeing Lu Chan’s complete lack of reaction, he set down the photograph and sighed heavily. “Lu Chan, I’ve arranged for Chairman Duan’s daughter to visit tomorrow. Since you have the day off, help me entertain her. Make sure you’re impeccably polite—we can’t let the Duan family think the Lu Family lacks proper manners.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan replied coldly.
Now that the Old Master had spoken, she knew he wouldn’t allow her to refuse. No matter what excuses she offered, he would dismiss them all.
But the timing couldn’t have been worse.
“This is for your own good, you know,” Lu Wensheng said, half scolding, half advising. “You should realize how many people covet the Duan Family’s S-Class Omega. If it weren’t for our long-standing ties with the Duan Family, we wouldn’t even have been able to invite her.”
Lu Chan lowered her gaze, murmured an acknowledgment, and left the room.
Back at her villa, the butler immediately greeted her.
“Has she returned?” Lu Chan asked coldly.
“Madam hasn’t returned yet,” the butler replied, noticing Lu Chan’s furrowed brows and carefully asked, “Should I go fetch her now?”
“Hmm. Tell her to stay at the villa tomorrow. We have guests coming,” Lu Chan said, her tone almost commanding.
The butler immediately sensed the urgency in her words and hurried out.
Lu Chan stood at the entrance, watching the departing car. A rare flicker of anxiety appeared in her icy eyes.
She lowered her gaze, pondered for a moment, then pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
Ye Xian’s delighted voice answered quickly, “Chanchan, am I dreaming? You actually called me first!”
Lu Chan’s brow furrowed slightly at the exaggerated tone. “Where are you?”
“Still at Xiao Jin’s place, and she’s right here with me,” Ye Xian cooed, deliberately drawing out her words.
Lu Chan’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to speak to Mu Jin, but she swallowed the words.
After a pause, she said sternly, “I’ve sent Uncle Yu to pick you up. Come home tonight.”
Ye Xian detected the seriousness and gravity in Lu Chan’s tone and pouted in displeasure. “Chanchan, this is the first time you’re bringing Mom back. You should be gentler. Your attitude is so stern—not cute at all.”
Lu Chan remained silent, letting her mother’s whining complaints wash over her.
After a few more remarks, Ye Xian grew bored. “Alright, Mom gets it. I’ll be back soon.”
“Mm-hmm,” Lu Chan replied, hanging up the phone and gazing into the dark night, her eyes shadowed.
Tomorrow was Mu Jin’s differentiation day.
This time, she wanted to witness the process.
Perhaps she could even help in some way.
During Omega differentiation, the sweet, cloying pheromones released would attract Alphas.
The higher the Omega’s class, the greater their influence on Alphas, with some even driving them to lose their reason.
An Omega differentiating unexpectedly in public was an extremely dangerous situation.
Although Mu Jin’s pheromones had no scent and wouldn’t attract Alphas, Lu Chan couldn’t help but worry.
What if someone stumbled upon Mu Jin’s differentiation…
Lu Chan’s eyes turned icy. She would absolutely not allow anyone else to witness Mu Jin’s differentiation.
Her wife was for her eyes only.
