Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 26
Less than five minutes later, a knock sounded at the door.
Lu Chan retrieved her car keys from her bag, stood up, and went to answer it.
“President Lu, here are the two sets of clothes you requested. As per your instructions, I purchased the smaller set from an Omega-exclusive boutique,” Wen Rou said, her head bowed as she presented the garments with both hands. Her eyes darted curiously toward the interior of the room.
“Bring my car around,” Lu Chan said, her gaze turning icy as she tossed the car keys to Wen Rou, her voice carrying a clear warning.
“Yes, President Lu,” Wen Rou replied, startled. She quickly averted her gaze and hurried away.
Throughout the exchange, she never dared to meet Lu Chan’s eyes.
Lu Chan closed the door and opened Mu Jin’s set of clothes. She ran her hand over the soft fabric, a look of satisfaction appearing in her eyes.
Omegas have delicate bodies, especially those like Mu Jin who are S-Class. They require clothing made from the softest, lightest materials.
“Xiao Jin, change your clothes and we’ll head back,” Lu Chan said, knocking on the door and speaking in a low, firm voice.
Hearing the voice, Mu Jin’s heart skipped a beat. She cracked the door open just enough to reveal a pair of dark, luminous eyes.
After taking the clothes from Lu Chan’s hand, she immediately shut the door again.
Her cautious demeanor resembled that of a startled rabbit.
Lu Chan couldn’t help but smile slightly, a faint hint of affection softening her usually cold features.
After quickly changing, she noticed Mu Jin was still in the bathroom. She knocked again, asking, “Xiao Jin, are you ready yet?”
There was no response from inside. Lu Chan stood patiently by the door, waiting.
A moment later, Mu Jin opened the door, her fair cheeks flushed pink. She kept her head lowered, her hands clasped nervously at her waist, looking somewhat flustered.
Lu Chan glanced at her and realized they were both wearing black outfits.
Lu Chan wore a long dress, while Mu Jin wore a short skirt. At a quick glance, they almost looked like matching couple outfits.
“Xiao Jin looks beautiful in this outfit,” Lu Chan murmured, her voice soft with approval.
“Thank you, Sister Chan,” Mu Jin replied, lifting her head with a bright smile. Her lips curved upward, revealing her perfect, pearly-white teeth.
Her obedient and gentle demeanor made Lu Chan want to pull her into a hug.
“Let’s go,” Lu Chan said, suppressing the urge and stepping out first.
Mu Jin followed behind, carrying their discarded clothes.
Watching Lu Chan’s tall figure ahead, Mu Jin’s cheeks flushed slightly, her eyes shining with happiness.
The rain outside continued to pour heavily, and Lu Chan slowed down the car.
Hearing a soft whimpering beside her, she glanced over and saw Mu Jin pointing at the center console.
Following her gaze, Lu Chan’s eyes landed on the suppressant inside the console.
“My mom asked me to buy it,” Lu Chan said, her expression remaining unchanged.
She had planned to take it with her when they got out of the car, but since it was Mu Jin’s first heat, she didn’t want to use medication.
Upon hearing this, Mu Jin immediately fell silent, her watery eyes darting downward, long lashes fluttering nervously. She felt ashamed of her earlier questioning.
Compared to suppressants, an Alpha’s pheromones were far more effective at calming an Omega.
Moreover, being marked by an S-Class Alpha was a dream for many Omegas, a status symbol to flaunt.
Especially when that Alpha was someone as exceptional as Lu Chan.
If Lu Chan were willing, countless Omegas would clamor to be marked by her.
Mu Jin couldn’t help but reach up to touch the back of her neck, where a faint lime scent lingered.
“Xiao Jin, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Lu Chan asked, her brow furrowing slightly.
Their pheromone compatibility was remarkably high, at ninety-five percent, making them exceptionally compatible.
Only when the compatibility rate fell below fifty percent would an Omega experience pain and discomfort from being marked.
To protect Omegas, the government stipulated that only Alphas with a compatibility rating exceeding fifty percent, and with the Omega’s consent, could mark them.
Furthermore, marriage registration also required compatibility data; couples failing to meet the government’s minimum threshold were prohibited from marrying.
This regulation gradually extended to all social groups and has now become universally accepted.
Mu Jin gently shook her head, her hands resting demurely on her lap, and looked up with a sweet smile.
Lu Chan immediately relaxed, her gaze fixed on the road ahead.
It took nearly half an hour to reach the dessert shop.
Lu Chan parked the car and glanced over to see two figures seated by the window.
When her eyes met Yan Zhu’s, her heart involuntarily tightened, and she guiltily averted her gaze.
Mu Jin now carried Lu Chan’s scent, and even Betas, who were less sensitive to pheromones, could likely detect it.
Lu Chan pressed her lips together, quickly exited the car, and walked around with an umbrella to the passenger side. She opened the door and said, “Xiao Jin, let’s get out.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Mu Jin’s eyes, and she nodded, her cheeks flushing slightly.
The umbrella was small, requiring them to huddle close to avoid getting wet.
As the two figures drew nearer, their intimate posture and matching outfits made Yan Zhu’s heart leap violently. She abruptly stood up.
“Xiao Jin, are you alright?” Yan Zhu asked anxiously, pulling Mu Jin closer to examine her carefully. When she saw the wound on her elbow, tears welled up in her eyes. “I shouldn’t have let you go out. If you’d stayed inside, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Lu Chan caught the unspoken accusation in Yan Zhu’s words and, feeling guilty, remained silent.
“Mom, I’m fine,” Mu Jin quickly reassured her, waving her hands and flashing a radiant smile. She wrapped her arms around Yan Zhu’s neck, nuzzling her affectionately.
Though Mu Jin spoke without sound, her expression clearly conveyed her meaning.
Yan Zhu’s heart ached even more. She sighed and said, “I’ll bandage your wound.”
With that, she turned to Ye Xian, offering a polite smile. “Sister Xian, thank you for your help today. Please get home safely.”
Ye Xian glanced reproachfully at Lu Chan before nodding with a smile. “Xiao Zhuzhu, don’t worry. Mu Jin’s differentiation is actually a good thing.”
Hearing the word “differentiation,” Yan Zhu’s expression turned icy. “Thank you, President Lu, for bringing Xiao Jin back. I’ll reimburse you for the cost of this outfit.”
“No need to be formal,” Lu Chan replied immediately, a flicker of nervousness in her voice.
Though Yan Zhu didn’t directly blame her for marking Mu Jin, her cold demeanor spoke volumes about her disapproval.
Lu Chan had never cared about Yan Zhu’s opinion before, but this time, winning over her mother-in-law was crucial.
As soon as Lu Chan and Ye Xian left, Yan Zhu closed the shop door.
Mu Jin could sense Yan Zhu’s suppressed anger and obediently didn’t try to stop her.
“Xiao Jin, come with me,” Yan Zhu said sternly, turning and walking into the house.
Mu Jin pressed her lips together and followed obediently.
In the room, Yan Zhu took out an inhibitor and a set of clothes from the cabinet. “Go take a shower and change,” she said sharply. “We don’t need Alpha scent here.”
Mu Jin opened her mouth to protest, but seeing Yan Zhu’s weathered face, her heart clenched. She nodded, took the clothes and inhibitor, and went into the bathroom.
She showered quickly, then hesitated with the inhibitor in her hand.
The lime scent on the back of her neck was already faint; using the inhibitor would completely erase it.
Mu Jin pressed her lips together, reluctantly touching her gland before finally opening the inhibitor.
She dressed and walked out, standing obediently.
Yan Zhu’s expression softened when she detected no Alpha scent. She pulled Mu Jin down to sit beside her.
After a pause, she sighed, her eyes reddening slightly. “Xiao Jin, I’m so glad you differentiated like a normal person. No one will ever mock you again.”
Mu Jin’s lips curved into a gentle, obedient smile as she nestled affectionately against Yan Zhu.
Yan Zhu’s heart warmed, but her eyes grew misty. “I know you’ve endured so much hardship over the years,” she said softly. “But I’m also so proud of you for being such a strong girl, never letting the world’s scornful glances break you. Whether you differentiate or not, you’ll always be my most cherished daughter.”
Mu Jin’s face lit up at these words, her dark eyes sparkling with joy.
Yan Zhu’s inner turmoil eased slightly at the sight of her daughter’s radiant smile. Forcing a smile of her own, she looked at Mu Jin earnestly and said, “Don’t tell anyone about what happened today. Now that you’ve differentiated into an Omega, you need to keep your distance from Alphas, especially Miss Lu.”
The smile on Mu Jin’s face faltered at the mention of Miss Lu. She blinked, then lowered her head sadly.
“You need to understand that Omegas can’t just interact freely with others,” Yan Zhu continued sternly. “Being alone in a room with an Alpha like you were today would damage your reputation if word got out. It would only invite more ridicule.”
During the video call, Yan Zhu had clearly seen the hotel bathrobe draped over Mu Jin’s shoulders, indicating she had showered there.
Moreover, Mu Jin had already been marked.
If Ye Xian hadn’t been present, she would have ruthlessly kicked Lu Chan out.
The rarity of Omegas had made them coveted prizes among the powerful and wealthy.
These elites placed immense value on bloodline purity and reputation. The wealthier the family, the more stringent their requirements for selecting an Omega.
They advocated that Omegas should be pure and untainted, accepting only the mark of their future partner.
An Omega marked by multiple partners was considered impure, threatening the purity of the family’s bloodline.
Although scientific research had disproven these claims as baseless, deeply ingrained societal beliefs persisted.
Upon hearing that an unmarried Omega had been marked, the immediate reaction was to mock the Omega for their shamelessness.
Under the influence of the wealthy, societal moral standards for Omegas had reached a feudal and perverse extreme.
“I understand,” Mu Jin murmured, nodding listlessly with her eyes lowered.
“Xiao Jin, we’re just ordinary people. The Lu Family is beyond our reach. Focus on your graduate studies and pursue your dreams,” Yan Zhu said earnestly, patting Mu Jin’s head.
Lu Chan was an exceptionally talented individual. Even without her prestigious background, her innate abilities alone made her stand out from the crowd.
In any gathering, she was the most captivating light.
Mu Jin had grown up hearing tales of Lu Chan’s remarkable achievements, and it was only natural for subconscious curiosity and admiration to blossom within her.
Especially after meeting Lu Chan in person, who proved even more extraordinary than the stories suggested, Mu Jin’s affection felt entirely justified.
However, the vast social gulf between them forced Yan Zhu to suppress Mu Jin’s feelings.
Mu Jin blinked, forcing back the tears welling in her eyes. She stood up and pointed to the books on the table.
“I’m glad you understand. Get some rest tonight, and we’ll study again tomorrow,” Yan Zhu said with a gentle smile, her expression softening.
Mu Jin nodded obediently and turned to lie down on the bed.
Sensing her lingering unhappiness, Yan Zhu sighed, switched off the light, and quietly closed the door.
Moments later, soft sobs echoed through the darkness.
Mu Jin pressed her lips together, her tear-filled eyes staring blankly into the pitch-blackness.
She reached back, her fingertips lightly touching the gland at the nape of her neck.
The Alpha scent was gone.
