Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 29
Lu Chan stepped out of her room and saw two people sitting in the living room.
One was wiping away tears with reddened eyes, while the other was comforting her.
Lu Chan paused, thought for a moment, and then said, “Aunt Yan, I’m taking Xiao Jin to get her differentiation level tested.”
“President Lu, your concern is unnecessary,” Yan Zhu retorted instinctively, her gaze shifting to Mu Jin. Her tear-reddened eyes turned serious. “Xiao Jin, I’ll accompany you to the test.”
“Mom…” Mu Jin pleaded silently, her lips pressed together, her expression aggrieved.
Ye Xian chuckled softly and tugged on Yan Zhu’s arm, softening her voice as she coaxed, “Xiao Zhuzhu, the differentiation test is no small matter. If Lu Chan is offering, she must have already arranged everything. She made a mistake, and this is her chance to make amends. You can’t let her off so easily.”
Yan Zhu was about to protest, but Ye Xian continued, “We’ll all go. With Lu Chan there, we can avoid a lot of trouble.”
The unspoken meaning behind these words was clear to Yan Zhu.
With Lu Chan’s status, they could indeed bypass many bureaucratic hurdles. Moreover, having an S-Class Alpha accompanying them would deter unwanted attention from other Alphas.
Seeing the softening in Yan Zhu’s eyes, Ye Xian immediately gave Lu Chan a meaningful look. “Don’t just stand there. Go wait in the car. We’ll be right out.”
“Okay,” Lu Chan nodded, glancing back at Mu Jin.
Mu Jin’s lips curved into a delighted smile as she obediently followed behind.
Yan Zhu watched this scene with a complex expression.
“Why overthink things so much?” Ye Xian said earnestly. “As long as Xiao Jin is happy, that’s all that matters.”
Yan Zhu lowered her head, remaining silent for a long moment before sighing.
“Alright, alright, let’s hurry up and go,” Ye Xian said with a gentle smile, taking Yan Zhu’s arm and guiding her toward the car.
Seeing them approach, Lu Chan got out and opened the rear door.
Yan Zhu shot a sidelong glance, her expression still carrying a hint of displeasure, but she said nothing as she silently got into the car.
When Yan Zhu noticed the cat paw-shaped device in Mu Jin’s hand, her brow furrowed. With a stern face, she scolded, “Why haven’t you returned that to the others?”
The word “others” carried a distinct edge.
Lu Chan’s eyes sharpened, but she calmly started the car.
If anyone else had been so consistently difficult, she would have made them face the consequences.
But when the person was Mu Jin’s mother, Yan Zhu had no choice but to remain silent.
After all, this was her future mother-in-law, and she couldn’t afford to offend her.
“Xiao Zhuzhu, why are you being so formal?” Ye Xian cooed, leaning closer and wrapping her arm around Yan Zhu’s. She chuckled affectionately. “I had Lu Chan buy this—it’s so pink and delicate, perfect for Xiao Jin.”
Hearing this, Yan Zhu couldn’t argue further and stared moodily out the window.
The car fell silent.
Ye Xian glanced around, then rested her head on Yan Zhu’s shoulder, occasionally praising the roadside scenery.
At this moment, only she could lighten the mood.
Mu Jin naturally couldn’t speak carelessly, lest she anger Yan Zhu further.
Lu Chan was even worse—her clumsy words were utterly useless for comforting anyone.
The fact that Lu Chan had shown such restraint today already astonished her.
Normally, Lu Chan wouldn’t have had this much patience with her.
“Lu Chan, which doctor did you schedule the appointment with?” Ye Xian asked with a smile, sensing the tension easing.
“Ye Xiangxing,” Lu Chan replied tersely.
“Oh, it’s Xiang Xing!” Ye Xian covered her mouth, her voice bubbling with delighted laughter.
Noticing the confusion in Yan Zhu’s eyes, she eagerly explained, “Xiang Xing is our Ye Family’s child—my eldest brother’s daughter. She’s two years younger than Lu Chan. She’s been an outstanding student since childhood, earning her Doctor of Medicine degree with ease and now working as an Associate Chief Physician. I feel much more at ease knowing she’ll be conducting the test herself.”
“Is that so?” Yan Zhu murmured softly, her gaze lowered in contemplation.
The test was a crucial matter, directly impacting their future lives. There couldn’t be any room for error.
When Yan Zhu had differentiated as a Beta, she had sat alone in the corridor, clutching her number tag, waiting in isolation.
She had endured the mocking glances of Alphas and Omegas, and it was then that she truly realized how one’s secondary gender could completely alter the course of their life.
Fortunately, Mu Jin had been luckier than her.
The union of two Betas could produce an Omega, fulfilling one of Yan Zhu’s deepest wishes.
Once the test was complete, Mu Jin could begin a new life, free from the lifetime of ridicule Yan Zhu had endured.
First Hospital was the most prestigious medical institution in the region, bustling with patients and visitors every day of the week.
As soon as Lu Chan stepped out of the car, she called Ye Xiangxing.
Ye Xiangxing responded quickly, appearing moments later.
“Aunt, Sister,” a striking white figure emerged from the crowd, the name tag on her chest reading “Associate Chief Physician Ye Xiangxing.”
Tall and slender, with delicate-framed glasses, her refined features exuded a composed elegance. Yet when she smiled, her face lit up with a radiant warmth that was instantly captivating.
Ye Xian rushed forward enthusiastically, taking Ye Xiangxing’s hand and showering her with compliments. “It’s only been a while since we last saw you, Xiang Xing, but you’ve grown even more beautiful! This white coat looks absolutely stunning on you—it suits you perfectly.”
“Aunt, you’re too kind,” Ye Xiangxing replied with a modest smile. “Sister told me you were coming. Let me take you upstairs.”
Her gaze shifted to Mu Jin, and she asked gently, “Are you the one who needs to be tested?”
Mu Jin’s lips curved into a slight smile as she nodded obediently.
Doctors often project an air of stern authority, especially those in senior positions.
But Ye Xiangxing was different. Her calm demeanor was tempered with a hint of warmth, instantly inspiring trust and fostering a sense of connection.
“Alright, let’s go to my office. We can run the test right away,” Ye Xiangxing said with a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, it’ll be quick and painless.”
Those coming for testing were always filled with anxiety, both anticipating and dreading the results.
“Thank you,” Mu Jin murmured, a faint smile softening her lips as her nervousness eased slightly.
Lu Chan watched from the side, her delicate brows furrowed.
“Look how well Xiang Xing speaks,” Ye Xian whispered, nudging Lu Chan with her elbow. “She knows Xiao Jin is nervous and keeps smiling to reassure her. You, on the other hand, just stand there with that cold expression, not saying a word. Learn from her.”
Lu Chan remained silent, her eyes flickering briefly before she followed the others.
Reaching Mu Jin’s side, she parted her crimson lips slightly, opening and closing them several times before finally uttering a barely audible sound.
“Sister Chan, what is it?” Mu Jin asked, tilting her head in confusion.
“Nothing,” Lu Chan replied coldly, pressing her lips together and staring straight ahead.
While others could easily express concern, she struggled to articulate such sentiments naturally. The words always seemed to catch in her throat.
“Sister Chan, Dr. Ye is so kind,” Mu Jin murmured, her eyes sparkling with admiration. “She seems so gentle.”
Lu Chan paused, letting out a curt “Mm,” a wave of frustration rising within her.
She lacked Qi Bujiao’s eloquence and Ye Xiangxing’s charm. Just as her mother had said, she could only maintain that cold, intimidating facade.
“I saw Dr. Ye’s nameplate. Ordinary people wouldn’t have this privilege. Thank you, Sister Chan,” Mu Jin typed, ready to send the message, when she noticed Lu Chan had already walked ahead.
She immediately hurried to catch up.
“My aunt mentioned you’re Xiao Jin, right?” Ye Xiangxing asked, holding the elevator door open with a gentle smile.
Mu Jin’s lips curved slightly as she nodded politely, expressing her gratitude.
“Xiao Jin is so adorable. Based on my experience, you’ve probably differentiated into an Omega,” Ye Xiangxing said with a smile.
Her familiar manner wasn’t off-putting; on the contrary, her professional demeanor made her even more likable.
“That’s right. We’re here to trouble you with the testing. Once it’s done, my sister will treat you to dinner another day,” Ye Xian chimed in naturally.
She didn’t expect Lu Chan to offer such politeries.
“Aunt, you don’t need to be so formal. It’s my honor to test such a beautiful Omega,” Ye Xiangxing replied, her lips curving into a playful smile. The slightly flirtatious words, coming from her, carried a charming sense of humor.
Hearing this, Mu Jin’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she shook her head with a soft laugh.
Lu Chan’s inner frustration deepened, and she shot a cold glance at Ye Xian.
Ye Xian ignored the piercing gaze and beamed at Ye Xiangxing. “Xiang Xing, you have such a sweet tongue! If your sister had even a fraction of your charm, she wouldn’t still be single.”
“Sister is so accomplished,” Ye Xiangxing said, adjusting her glasses to hide the amusement in her eyes. “Just being S-Class is enough to make many people envious. If she wanted to marry, I’m sure there would be plenty of willing candidates.”
“You little flatterer!” Ye Xian chuckled, her heart swelling with pride.
Though she often teased Lu Chan for her lack of social grace, she couldn’t help but feel pleased when others praised her daughter.
Lu Chan’s expression remained unchanged, but she glanced sideways at Mu Jin.
Mu Jin seemed to understand her unspoken message. She turned and flashed a sweet smile, as if confirming the earlier compliment.
Lu Chan’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly averted her gaze.
Just then, the elevator doors opened. Lu Chan stepped out first, holding the doors open.
“Chanchan’s finally growing up,” Ye Xian teased, linking arms with Yan Zhu as they exited.
Mu Jin followed behind, cheerfully calling out, “Thank you!”
Lu Chan froze.
In their previous marriage, she had never done such small things for Mu Jin—not even bringing her a cup of tea or tucking her in.
She had always believed she was the one being pampered.
From childhood, she had grown accustomed to servants attending to her every need, taking Mu Jin’s efforts in their marriage for granted.
Now, looking back, she realized how much she still needed to learn and do.
“Sister, I can handle these small tasks,” Ye Xiangxing said with a polite smile, a hint of surprise flashing across her face.
“No need. Take them to your office,” Lu Chan replied coldly, striding quickly to stand behind Mu Jin.
“Alright, everyone follow me this way,” Ye Xiangxing waved her hand, leading the group forward.
Along the way, nurses greeted Ye Xiangxing, who responded with warm smiles, her beautiful face radiating approachability.
Watching this, Mu Jin typed with a soft chuckle, “Dr. Ye is so kind. She must be very well-loved.”
“Xiao Jin is too kind. It’s just what I should do,” Ye Xiangxing replied, glancing back with a gentle smile that seemed to bathe the room in warmth.
Lu Chan stiffened, a flicker of displeasure crossing her face.
She could clearly see Mu Jin’s admiration for Ye Xiangxing.
Despite this being their first meeting, the two women seemed as familiar as old friends.
“Xiang Xing has always been gentle and considerate, unlike Lu Chan,” Ye Xian interjected with a pointed glance at Lu Chan. “Young people these days prefer the kind and attentive type.”
Lu Chan’s expression grew even colder at these words.
