Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 30
Lu Chan couldn’t refute Ye Xian’s words.
From childhood, her father and grandfather had educated her with the strictest methods, forbidding any retreat and tolerating no failure.
Whether in academics or other skills, she was expected to achieve perfection.
Even when her physical and mental limits were reached, she couldn’t rest if she hadn’t met their expectations.
Even when she achieved perfection, they never praised her, as if it were her due.
Over time, she grew accustomed to concealing all emotions and thoughts within herself, never showing any sign of hardship or fatigue to anyone.
As the future heir of the Lu Family, she had to maintain composure and unwavering resolve at all times.
She couldn’t afford to be lenient with herself, let alone show mercy to others.
In the Lu Family, tenderness was a joke and a sign of weakness.
“Aunt, Sister, please wait here for a moment. Xiao Jin, come with me to fill out this form first,” Ye Xiangxing said gently, gesturing toward the office door.
Hearing this, Lu Chan glanced at Mu Jin and said in a deep voice, “I’ll go with you.”
“Sister, you’re an Alpha. You can’t enter the Omega testing room,” Ye Xiangxing immediately objected, tapping her finger on the posted notices on the wall. “An Alpha’s presence might affect the Omega’s test results.”
Lu Chan frowned slightly, paused, and walked into the office. She stood by the door, gazing outside.
Watching Mu Jin and Ye Xiangxing walk down the corridor, smiling brightly, toward the room at the end, Lu Chan couldn’t help feeling a pang of irritation.
Currently, she and Mu Jin were only friends.
Even if she didn’t want Mu Jin getting too close to others, she had no right to interfere, especially since this was normal social interaction.
“Chanchan, why are you standing by the door? Come sit down. Xiangxing is very experienced in this area, so you don’t need to worry,” Ye Xian said with a warm smile.
Lu Chan lowered her gaze at the words.
After a moment’s thought, she strode out of the office and headed toward the room at the end of the corridor.
Ye Xian watched her go, smiling silently, then turned to comfort the anxious Yan Zhu. “Xiao Zhuzhu, Xiangxing isn’t just the deputy director of this hospital; she’s also a professor who has participated in research and occasionally teaches classes. The hospital paid a fortune to recruit her.”
“If only I could see it for myself,” Yan Zhu sighed, her brow furrowed, her worry impossible to conceal.
“Lu Chan has already gone over there. We’ll wait here. If Xiao Jin needs any help, we can just call Lu Chan,” Ye Xian said, leaning in to affectionately put her arm around Yan Zhu’s shoulder and patting her rhythmically.
Yan Zhu hummed in agreement, suppressing her anxiety as she waited.
The Omega testing room was spacious and private, strictly off-limits to anyone except authorized personnel.
Lu Chan could only stand at the door, staring at the thick, soundproof barrier.
She strained her ears, trying to discern any sounds from within, but even with her sharp hearing, she couldn’t detect a single noise.
Lu Chan frowned.
Despite knowing Mu Jin had already been confirmed as an S-Class Omega, a sliver of anxiety lingered in her heart.
She hadn’t felt this nervous even when she herself had undergone the testing.
After an anxious half-hour wait, the door finally swung open.
Lu Chan’s heart leaped with relief as she looked up, immediately hearing Ye Xiangxing’s cheerful voice.
“Xiao Jin, just wait patiently for two days, and the results will be ready. I’ll call you then,” Ye Xiangxing said, her face radiating a warm smile as she opened the door.
“Thank you, Sister Xiangxing,” Mu Jin typed happily, her delicate cheeks flushed a lovely pink.
Hearing the change in address, Lu Chan’s eyes darkened, her slender fingers tightening slightly.
In just half an hour, Mu Jin had grown so close to Ye Xiangxing.
Meanwhile, it had taken Lu Chan herself a considerable amount of time to build a similar rapport.
As Mu Jin emerged, she was met with Lu Chan’s icy expression, as if she were displeased.
Her heart tightened involuntarily as she cautiously asked, “Sister Chan, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Lu Chan replied coldly, her gaze flicking toward Ye Xiangxing.
“Sis, you should head back soon. Aunt and the others must be getting worried,” Ye Xiangxing said with a smile, adjusting her glasses and winking playfully. “I have some data to process here, so I won’t be able to see you off.”
“No need,” Lu Chan responded curtly, turning to leave.
After a moment’s pause, she turned back. “Thank you for your help today.”
“Sis, what are you saying? We’re family. There’s no such thing as trouble or inconvenience between us,” Ye Xiangxing said, her hands in her pockets, her smile growing even warmer.
Lu Chan nodded, glanced at Mu Jin, and walked forward.
Mu Jin chuckled softly and happily followed behind.
Watching their figures disappear one after the other, Ye Xiangxing’s lips slowly curved into a smile. She turned to the others in the room and instructed, “Make a backup copy of the Omega’s gland data and bl00d sample data from earlier.”
“But… that’s against regulations,” someone protested.
Ye Xiangxing shot them a cold glare, and the person immediately cowered and complied.
Yan Zhu waited anxiously, unable to resist standing by the door and peering out.
When she saw Lu Chan’s figure approaching, she hurried over, her voice filled with concern. “Miss Lu, where’s Xiao Jin? Is the test finished? How did it go?”
“Xiao Jin is right behind me,” Lu Chan said, stepping aside.
Mu Jin peeked out, flashed a sweet smile, and ran to hug Yan Zhu, his dark eyes sparkling with joy.
“Mom, the Omega test results will take two days. We’ll come back then,” Mu Jin typed, his delicate face unable to conceal his excitement.
Seeing this, Yan Zhu felt relieved but her expression remained complex.
Part of her hoped Mu Jin’s classification would be low, allowing him to live a simple, happy life.
Yet another part wished for a higher classification, so he wouldn’t have to endure ridicule for being mute.
“Alright,” Yan Zhu said, patting Mu Jin’s head and forcing a faint smile.
“Now that the main event is over, let’s head back,” Ye Xian said with a smile, patting Yan Zhu’s shoulder reassuringly as she took her arm and led her forward, whispering comfortingly, “Don’t overthink it. Xiao Jin will only get better.”
Yan Zhu nodded slightly, letting out a silent sigh.
Lu Chan and Mu Jin followed behind.
The hospital was crowded, and the four were quickly separated by the throng.
Noticing the two ahead had drifted some distance away, Lu Chan glanced at Mu Jin and murmured, “You seem to get along well with Xiangxing.”
“Sister Xiangxing is so kind, easygoing, and funny,” Mu Jin replied, her lips curving into a happy smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “She’s incredibly knowledgeable, and I learn so much just talking to her. Plus, she’s amazing! She’s involved in cutting-edge research—she’s truly remarkable.”
Lu Chan’s expression turned cold, regretting she’d brought up the topic.
Ye Xiangxing was an A+ Class Alpha and the only daughter of the Ye Family. From childhood, she had been clever, charming, and sweet-tongued, making her a favorite among her elders.
Originally destined to inherit the Ye Family’s business empire, she defied all expectations by insisting on studying medicine, despite everyone’s objections.
With the Ye Family’s support and her own natural talent and relentless effort, she had achieved multiple prestigious positions at a young age, earning the admiration of many.
“Sister Chan, Sister Xiangxing is actually a professor at the graduate school I want to apply to! If I get in, I might even become her student!” Mu Jin typed excitedly, her face radiant with a bright smile.
Lu Chan’s eyes darkened, a dull ache settling in her chest.
She loved seeing Mu Jin happy.
But now, Mu Jin’s smile was for someone else.
“Xiao Jin, are you sure you want to go to that school?” Lu Chan asked, suppressing her inner dissatisfaction, her voice low and serious.
Mu Jin nodded vigorously, typing quickly, “It’s the best school in the area. You can apply to join research projects while you’re studying, and Professor Meng, my favorite researcher, is a top-tier professor there. I hope I can work with him someday.”
Lu Chan paused, then said softly, “You’ll get in.”
Though it stung to see Mu Jin’s eyes light up when talking about someone else, she loved seeing her eyes full of hope, her spirit soaring.
This was Mu Jin’s true nature, not the subdued, obedient facade she wore to please others while trapped in a gilded cage.
Looking back now, she realized she couldn’t rush into marrying Mu Jin as she had in her previous life.
At the very least, she needed to wait until Mu Jin successfully passed her graduate school entrance exam.
“Thank you, Sister Chan,” Mu Jin said with a gentle smile, a faint blush rising on her cheeks.
She reached out to take Lu Chan’s arm, but hesitated for a moment before letting her hand fall back to her side.
Noticing they were lagging behind, Ye Xian called out through the crowd, “Chanchan, Xiao Jin, hurry up!”
Lu Chan glanced over but continued walking at her leisurely pace.
Sensing her displeasure, Ye Xian and the others closed the distance, teasing with a smile, “Who upset our Little Boss Lu?”
“I’m fine,” Lu Chan replied, suppressing her irritation. “I’ll drive you all home.”
“Chanchan is so considerate,” Ye Xian laughed, drawing out her words in mock admiration. “Thanks to Xiao Jin, we’ve had the honor of having Little Boss Lu as our chauffeur today!”
Lu Chan didn’t respond, her face still cold as she started the car.
“No way,” Mu Jin murmured shyly, lowering her head.
Ye Xian’s laughter grew even more gleeful.
After dropping Mu Jin and the others off, Lu Chan drove away.
She had wanted to stay longer, but Yan Zhu insisted Mu Jin needed to study. The unspoken message was clear: she wasn’t welcome.
Lu Chan frowned slightly as she drove. Yan Zhu’s antipathy toward her was palpable and intense. If not for Ye Xian’s help, she might not have succeeded in getting Mu Jin to the hospital today.
To win her wife’s heart, she first needed Yan Zhu’s approval and acceptance.
Lu Chan pressed her lips together, pulled the car over to the side of the road, and lowered her gaze to think for a moment before dialing Ye Xiangxing’s number.
It took a while for the call to connect.
“Xiangxing, will Xiao Jin’s test results be available today?” Lu Chan asked, her tone as commanding as when addressing a company employee.
Ye Xiangxing smiled warmly. “Sister, don’t worry. Omega tests always take two days to process.”
“Given my position, can’t you expedite the results?” Lu Chan pressed, her tone softening slightly.
“It’s standard procedure. Even I can’t override it,” Ye Xiangxing replied apologetically, her smile widening.
“Fine. Notify me the moment the results are available,” Lu Chan said, pressing her fingers to her temples, resigned to settling for second best.
“Sister, you can count on me. You’ll be the first to know!” Ye Xiangxing said excitedly, her enthusiasm palpable over the phone.
Lu Chan hung up the phone and continued driving.
Ye Xiangxing watched the darkening screen, a playful smile flickering in her eyes.
She turned to address the others, her expression serious. “We need results tonight. Tell me first, and I’ll notify the person myself.”
“Understood, Deputy Director Ye.”
Instead of returning to the villa, Lu Chan went to the office.
The employees still working late at the office stiffened at her sudden appearance, immediately redoubling their efforts.
Lu Chan swept a cold glance across the room before entering the CEO’s office.
She opened her computer, stared intently at the browser page for a few minutes, then swiftly typed a question:
What kind of men do young women like these days?
She pressed Enter, and a dense array of answers flooded the screen, including numerous videos.
Lu Chan’s brow furrowed slightly, her expression as serious as when making critical decisions in meetings.
She clicked on the first answer and scrolled through the text, skimming through the lines at lightning speed. Her expression gradually darkened with displeasure.
According to the survey results, the majority of young women preferred gentle types.
They found relationships with such men more relaxed and secure.
Lu Chan pursed her lips, her fingers tightening around the mouse as she continued reading.
Other answers mentioned refined and mature types, optimistic and cheerful types, and even sickly-beautiful types.
But nowhere did she find anyone mentioning cold and ruthless types.
Lu Chan’s lips pressed into an even tighter line.
Flipping to the second page, she finally found someone who said they liked the “cold and aloof” type, but only when they were passionate in bed. “The contrast must be so hot,” the comment read.
Lu Chan frowned, her mind racing back to her marriage with Mu Jin.
Even in bed, I always maintained a cold, detached demeanor.
Even at the height of passion, I never lost control.
For the entire afternoon, Lu Chan abandoned her work, relentlessly scrolling through web pages in search of answers.
The deeper she delved, the more agitated she became.
Bang! She slammed her laptop shut.
Leaning back in her chair, Lu Chan pressed her fingers lightly against her forehead, her mind replaying Mu Jin’s smiling face as she spoke of Ye Xiangxing’s gentleness.
Her chest tightened, as if something were blocking her throat.
Having never envied anyone before, Lu Chan now felt a pang of jealousy toward Ye Xiangxing.
That innate tenderness… it’s something I’ll never be able to achieve.
Lu Chan rose and strode out of the office, her expression even darker than before, sending shivers down the spines of her employees.
Wen Rou, clutching a stack of documents, hurried after her. “President Lu, here’s an invitation for you to attend a lecture by Professor Meng Chuan, the renowned genetics researcher.”
“Meng Chuan?” Lu Chan paused, her brow furrowing slightly.
“Yes, the famous Professor Meng, the one who gave the lecture in the Capital recently. Would you like to attend?” Wen Rou replied quickly, her voice unconsciously softening toward the end.
“Hmm, make the arrangements,” Lu Chan said coldly, pausing before adding, “Get them to add another spot. I want to bring someone.”
“Understood, President Lu,” Wen Rou replied, suppressing her curiosity and immediately setting to work.
She instinctively suspected it was the woman who hadn’t shown up at the hotel last time, but she didn’t dare ask Lu Chan.
Throughout Lu Chan’s life, no romantic interests had ever appeared by her side.
Yet many had tried to climb into her bed.
Once, someone in the company even tried to replicate a cliché from a drama, staking out Lu Chan’s usual spots to stage “accidental” encounters and minor mishaps, all in an attempt to catch her attention.
Without exception, they were fired the very next day.
Throughout the company, countless employees dreamed of becoming the president’s wife, but none dared to show it.
They had long believed Lu Chan was asexual, never imagining their President Lu might finally be opening up to romance.
