Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 35
Hospitals capable of detecting differentiation levels could also test compatibility.
Lu Chan already knew her compatibility with Mu Jin was 95%, so she subconsciously dismissed the idea of getting tested.
“No,” Lu Chan typed, adding, “Xiao Jin and I are definitely above 50% compatibility.”
“You’re both S-Class, so it might even be over 80%,” Ye Xian replied quickly, then asked, “Where are you now?”
“In front of the dessert shop,” Lu Chan responded instantly, glancing at the shop without starting her car.
“Okay, wait there for me. I’ll be right over.”
“Mm-hmm,” Lu Chan replied, put away her phone, and leaned back in her seat.
She watched the dessert shop as the door opened, and Mu Jin’s figure appeared in her line of sight.
Mu Jin was carrying a dessert, seemingly walking toward her.
Lu Chan immediately straightened up and rolled down her car window.
“Sister Chan, thank you for today. This is a freshly made strawberry yogurt mousse. Try it!” Mu Jin stood outside, her adorable face beaming with a radiant smile.
Lu Chan’s heart stirred. She accepted the dessert and gracefully took a bite.
She could tell Mu Jin had made it herself.
“Thank you,” Lu Chan said quietly after finishing, handing back the plate.
Mu Jin obediently took it, her lips curving into a smile as she typed, “Sister Chan, would you like to come sit in the shop for a while?”
After sending the message, she gently pursed her lips, her eyes filled with nervous anticipation.
“Mm,” Lu Chan replied, getting out of the car and walking toward the dessert shop.
Watching Lu Chan enter, Yan Zhu’s heart tightened.
Catching Mu Jin’s delighted smile, she paused before nodding at Lu Chan.
“Aunt Yan,” Lu Chan greeted politely, a flicker of nervousness rising within her.
This was arguably the first time Yan Zhu had shown her such warmth.
“Sister Chan, sit here. Would you like anything else? I’ll get it,” Mu Jin said cheerfully, gesturing to Ye Xian’s usual seat.
That spot was reserved exclusively for Ye Xian, no matter how busy the shop got.
“No need,” Lu Chan replied, her expression calm as she sat down, gazing out the window.
Mu Jin followed her gaze and stood for a moment before asking, “Sister Chan, are you waiting for Aunt Ye?”
“Mm-hmm,” Lu Chan nodded.
“Then I’ll go get Aunt Ye a dessert,” Mu Jin said with a smile, her tone subtly seeking permission.
Lu Chan nodded again.
Mu Jin turned around happily, expertly selecting Ye Xian’s favorite dessert.
Yan Zhu observed this scene, a thoughtful expression appearing in her eyes.
From their interactions, it was clear that Mu Jin was the more proactive one.
Lu Chan remained aloof and reserved, rarely speaking.
Crucially, she showed no particular affection for Mu Jin.
Yet, she always seemed willing to set aside her pride and busy herself with Mu Jin’s affairs.
Yan Zhu sighed inwardly and walked over to Mu Jin, saying softly, “Go inside and study. We can manage here without your help.”
“But…” Mu Jin glanced at Lu Chan, a hint of grievance surfacing in her eyes.
“Xiao Jin, listen to your mother,” Yan Zhu’s tone grew stern.
Mu Jin pressed her lips together, lowered her head, and reluctantly went inside.
Lu Chan saw Ye Xian’s figure appear outside the window and immediately stood up.
She turned to scan the room, but instead of finding Mu Jin, her gaze met Yan Zhu’s.
“Miss Lu, thank you so much for today,” Yan Zhu said, bowing slightly, her face sincere with gratitude.
“You’re welcome,” Lu Chan replied coldly.
Ye Xian, watching from outside, couldn’t hear their conversation but could guess its gist. Given Lu Chan’s reserved nature, her words would likely be nothing more than polite formalities.
“Xiao Zhuzhu, it’s been a whole day! Did you miss me?” Ye Xian pushed open the door, her smile radiant as she swept Yan Zhu into a hug, nuzzling her affectionately. “I’ve been thinking about you constantly.”
Yan Zhu sighed inwardly, letting Ye Xian hug her for a moment before gently pushing her away. Her expression calm, she said, “Sister Xian, you wouldn’t come this late unless you needed something.”
“Xiao Zhuzhu is so clever!” Ye Xian giggled, praising her like a child. “Let’s talk inside.”
With that, she glanced at Lu Chan. “Chanchan, wait here for Mommy.”
Lu Chan’s brow furrowed slightly.
Though reluctant, she had no choice but to sit back down and wait patiently.
Yan Zhu’s impression of Lu Chan had just improved slightly, and Lu Chan couldn’t impulsively ruin this rare goodwill.
After an anxious half-hour wait, the two women finally reappeared.
Yan Zhu’s expression was grave, while Ye Xian wore a radiant smile.
Mu Jin followed behind them.
Lu Chan’s eyes flashed as she immediately approached, politely greeting, “Aunt Yan.”
Yan Zhu nodded in acknowledgment and turned to Mu Jin. “Xiao Jin, please see Miss Lu out.”
Mu Jin nodded eagerly.
Lu Chan exchanged a puzzled glance with Ye Xian before following Mu Jin out.
Watching their retreating figures, Yan Zhu’s gaze turned complex, and she sighed softly.
“Xiao Zhuzhu, don’t be such a worrywart. We already agreed—tomorrow we’ll have them tested for compatibility. If it’s over fifty percent, you’ll give Lu Chan a chance. You can’t back out now,” Ye Xian said with a gentle laugh, her lips pursing slightly in a playful pout.
Yan Zhu sighed heavily, a hint of sorrow in her eyes. “I’m not backing out.”
Though she disliked the Lu Family, she and the other elders clearly saw Mu Jin’s feelings for Lu Chan.
A compatibility test was indeed necessary—to help Mu Jin give up, or perhaps to force her to face reality.
Lu Chan stood by the car, her gaze fixed on the two figures talking inside.
Mu Jin stood obediently beside her, quietly keeping her company.
After a while, Yan Zhu and Ye Xian emerged.
Seeing Lu Chan’s cold expression, Ye Xian couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. It’s a good thing Mu Jin has such a good temper. Anyone else would have lost patience by now.
“Chanchan, Aunt Yan and Mu Jin came all the way out to see you off,” Ye Xian reminded her with a smile. “Say a few more words, won’t you?”
“There’s no need for them to see me off,” Lu Chan replied coldly.
The smile on Ye Xian’s face faltered. She pressed her forehead, feeling both exasperated and amused.
If only Lu Chan could apply even a fraction of her business acumen to social interactions, she wouldn’t be so clueless.
But Lu Chan had always been aloof, completely unlike other children who were naturally innocent and lively. Having been waited on hand and foot by the Lu Family since birth, she had never experienced the slightest hardship.
The fact that she had patiently waited here for them today was already beyond Ye Xian’s expectations.
“Xiao Zhuzhu, Xiao Jin, we’re off! See you tomorrow!” Ye Xian waved cheerfully from the back seat.
Lu Chan nodded coolly and started the car.
Mu Jin watched the car drive away, a hint of reluctance surfacing on her face.
Yan Zhu observed quietly for a moment before softly asking, “Xiao Jin, do you like Miss Lu?”
At the question, Mu Jin’s fair cheeks flushed crimson. She lowered her head, unable to answer.
“I’ve already spoken with Sister Xian,” Yan Zhu said, her tone serious, though a trace of reluctance lingered in her expression. “If your compatibility exceeds fifty percent, I’ll give you a chance.”
Mu Jin’s head snapped up, her eyes sparkling with joy. She threw her arms around Yan Zhu in an impulsive hug. “Thank you, Mom!”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself,” Yan Zhu scolded gently, her face stern. “Wait for tomorrow’s test results.” A sense of helplessness tugged at her heart.
Mu Jin’s eyes remained bright, her lips curving into an even wider smile.
As if she were absolutely certain.
“Xiao Jin… oh…” Yan Zhu stroked Mu Jin’s hair affectionately, sighing softly.
She couldn’t know if this compromise was the right decision.
The only comforting thing was the radiant smile on Mu Jin’s face.
Lu Chan drove, her gaze occasionally flicking to Ye Xian in the rearview mirror.
Ye Xian noticed the glances and smiled coquettishly. “Little Boss Lu, is there something you want to ask?”
“What did you say to Aunt Yan?” Lu Chan asked coldly, showing no embarrassment or panic at being caught.
“Oh, that… Well, it’s nothing much, really. Just one piece of good news and one piece of bad news. Which would you like to hear first, Little Boss Lu?” Ye Xian blinked, deliberately teasing.
Lu Chan’s expression remained unchanged, her voice low and detached, as if negotiating a business deal. “Which do you want to tell me?”
Hearing Lu Chan’s utterly emotionless tone, Ye Xian couldn’t help but pout, feigning playful reproach. “Little Boss Lu, you’re so unromantic! At a time like this, you should be acting excited and saying, ‘What’s the good news? What’s the bad news? I want to hear both! Tell me quickly!'”
Lu Chan shot her a cold glare. “I’m not bored enough to indulge in your childish games.”
“This isn’t childishness; it’s the spice of life,” Ye Xian huffed, elegantly tossing her hair. “Chanchan, you really don’t understand. If Xiao Jin ends up with you, wouldn’t life be terribly dull?”
Lu Chan’s eyes flickered, unable to form a rebuttal.
She had never considered this.
Her married life with Mu Jin followed the same routine almost daily, with few surprises. Everything felt so natural and familiar that she had grown accustomed to it.
“What’s the good news? What’s the bad news? I want to hear both,” Lu Chan repeated awkwardly, her face still frozen in a frosty expression.
Though her tone was perfunctory, it was a step forward.
Ye Xian covered her mouth, giggling as if she had successfully teased her target, laughing until tears welled up in her eyes.
“Stop laughing and answer my question,” Lu Chan snapped, her eyes turning icy with anger at being mocked.
Ye Xian, sensing her displeasure, pursed her lips and straightened her posture. “Xiao Zhuzhu has agreed to give you one more chance. I fought hard to secure this for you, so don’t disappoint me.”
“Mm,” Lu Chan replied calmly, her tense mood easing, though she showed no outward sign of it.
Ye Xian observed her for a while, but seeing no change in expression, she grew bored. “Little Boss Lu, I’m genuinely worried about you. How can you possibly win Xiao Jin over when you’re so cold and devoid of romance?”
Lu Chan’s brow furrowed, her fingers tightening around the steering wheel, her eyes darkening.
She had never pursued anyone before.
In her plan, once Mu Jin passed her graduate school entrance exams, they would marry.
She hadn’t factored “pursuit” into the process.
If Ye Xian hadn’t brought it up, she wouldn’t have realized that courtship was a necessary step before marriage.
In her mind, marriage was like work: with a well-defined plan, everything would proceed smoothly.
Perhaps she should draft a courtship strategy document this time.
