Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 42
Lu Chan assigned the task of buying books to Wen Rou.
By afternoon, the books she had requested were already on her desk.
Looking at the various books related to Omegas, Lu Chan felt for the first time that her secretary was unreliable.
She had wanted books on romance, but Wen Rou had brought her only research-oriented volumes.
Lu Chan casually flipped through a couple of pages, preparing to set them aside, when an idea suddenly flashed through her mind.
She immediately pulled out her phone and dialed Mu Jin’s number.
After a brief wait, the call was answered, and a deliberately hushed voice came through the line. “Sister Chan, I’m at the library. What’s up?”
“I have some books here that might be helpful for your graduate school exams,” Lu Chan said, her pale fingertips idly turning the pages.
“Okay, thank you, Sister Chan! Are you at work? I’ll come by later to pick them up,” Mu Jin replied cheerfully, her face lighting up with a radiant smile.
Lu Chan hung up, feeling pleased, and began to focus on her work.
Among the numerous messages, one from Wen Rou stood out: “President Lu, regarding the S-Class Omega incident from the past few days, we’re not the only ones managing the comments. Others are also controlling the narrative. I’ve traced it back to the Yan Group.”
Attached was a link: “S-Class Omega Revealed to Be Granddaughter of Yan Group Chairman.”
Lu Chan frowned slightly, clicked the link, and her expression turned grave as she read the article.
The press release repeatedly emphasized Mu Jin’s connection to the Yan Family, but it remained completely silent on why they had only acknowledged their granddaughter after so long.
Lu Chan had once heard her mother mention Yan Zhu’s falling out with the Yan Family, but she had only gleaned fragmented details and never understood the full story.
Now that the Yan Family was publicly announcing this relationship with such fanfare, it was likely they intended to reclaim Mu Jin, secure an S-Class Omega, and boost their family’s influence.
In her previous life, the Yan Family had only learned of this matter after Mu Jin married Lu Chan. At the time, they hadn’t publicly disclosed the information, instead privately mentioning it to Lu Chan. Out of respect for Mu Jin, Lu Chan had granted the Yan Family some consideration, facilitating a few business collaborations.
This time, with the Yan Family involved, Lu Chan feared it wouldn’t be so easy to marry Mu Jin.
Lu Chan frowned slightly and began searching for information related to Mu Jin.
The first page of results was dominated by articles about the Yan Family, their urgency to reclaim their granddaughter evident in every line.
Lu Chan paused, her finger hovering over the screen as she pondered.
A new message popped up: “Sister Chan, I’m sorry, something came up. I can’t come get the book today. I’ll come another time.”
“Okay,” Lu Chan replied instantly, her suspicions confirmed.
But she remained uncertain whether Mu Jin would willingly return to the Yan Family.
Lu Chan left work on time and decided to take her books with her.
She parked near the dessert shop and noticed a group of bodyguards standing at the entrance. The usually bustling shop was completely empty.
Lu Chan got out of the car, carrying the bag of books.
As she approached, she glanced at her mother’s usual spot but didn’t see her.
“No one is allowed inside,” a bodyguard blocked her path, his voice cold.
“Is Chairman Yan inside? Perfect. I have something to discuss with him,” Lu Chan said, her expression icy as she pulled out her phone and made a call.
The bodyguard’s demeanor immediately shifted. He bowed respectfully and ushered her inside.
As soon as Lu Chan entered, she heard faint sobs coming from the back room. After listening carefully, she realized it was Yan Zhu crying, with her mother’s comforting voice nearby.
Lu Chan’s eyes darkened, and she quickened her pace.
The living room was filled with bodyguards, and four more stood guard outside Mu Jin’s room. Lu Chan immediately understood that Mu Jin and Chairman Yan were inside.
Seeing Lu Chan, Ye Xian’s heart leaped with joy. She rushed over, but her voice cracked with emotion, on the verge of tears. “Chanchan, you’re finally here! Xiao Jin is inside. You must stop them from taking her away!”
“I know,” Lu Chan replied coldly, her gaze fixed on the door like a burning flame.
Yan Zhu’s sobs gradually subsided as she turned her red, swollen eyes toward Lu Chan, her eyes filled with pleading. “Miss Lu, please help Xiao Jin… I can’t live without her…”
Her words came in ragged gasps, thick with a nasal tone, some syllables barely audible.
Lu Chan understood.
Glancing at the tightly shut door, she stepped forward and said in a low voice, “Aunt Yan, there’s no need to panic. This decision requires Xiao Jin’s consent.”
Yan Zhu froze, then burst into tears again. “Xiao Jin is just a child! She doesn’t understand anything! She can’t make this decision…”
Returning to the Yan Family meant becoming a wealthy heiress, free from worries about money and living a life of luxury.
But in that family, profit outweighed affection. If Mu Jin truly returned, she would lose all autonomy.
Forget about graduate studies—even her marriage would be dictated by others.
Lu Chan refused to let Mu Jin become a pawn in the Yan Family’s strategic alliances.
She remained silent, standing calmly outside the door, waiting.
