Her Little Mute Omega [Rebirth] - Chapter 52
The fact that Mu Jin could speak posed a significant threat to the Duan Family.
Duan Miaohan, unwilling to accept this, threw a tantrum at home. She turned to her father, Duan Li, and said, “Dad, look at those Yan Family people. They’re so arrogant now, acting like they’re the only ones with an S-Class Omega.”
Duan Li listened, his expression darkening. After a long silence, he said, “It’s time to remind them that the Duan Family also has an S-Class Omega. In the next few days, I’ll invite A+ Class Alphas from various families to be our guests. The Yan Family’s Omega will also be attending. You need to make a good impression and not disappoint me.”
“Of course, Dad,” Duan Miaohan replied with a confident smile. “I’d never lose to a mute.”
The Duan Family’s invitations were quickly sent out, and both Lu Chan and Mu Jin received one.
Lu Chan hadn’t initially planned to attend, but when she heard Mu Jin would be there, she accepted the invitation.
Lu Qiong also received an invitation. Holding it up to Lu Chan, she said, “Sister, why is the Duan Family suddenly being so generous? Letting everyone see their precious Omega?”
“Don’t overthink it. We’ll find out when we go,” Lu Chan replied coolly.
“I heard Ye Xiangxing will be there too,” Lu Qiong added.
“Mm,” Lu Chan nodded.
An idea popped into Lu Qiong’s head. Testing the waters, she said, “Do you think they’re trying to make us compete for that Omega?”
“I have no interest,” Lu Chan said flatly.
Lu Qiong grinned, her face radiating a knowing look. “Sister, I understand. You’re only interested in Miss Mu.”
A faint blush rose on Lu Chan’s cheeks as she shot Lu Qiong a cold glare.
Lu Qiong immediately stifled her laughter, pretending to cover her lips.
The Duan Family’s banquet was held in the most luxurious villa on their estate.
Lu Chan drove to the venue and arrived just as Mu Jin was stepping out of her car.
A smile unconsciously spread across Lu Chan’s face as she walked over and said, “Xiao Jin, what a coincidence!”
Mu Jin’s cheeks flushed slightly. “Sister Chan, it really is!”
As they were talking, another car pulled up, and Ye Xiangxing emerged, greeting them with a smile. “Sister, Xiao Jin, you’re here too!”
Lu Chan nodded.
Mu Jin responded with a gentle smile.
A servant soon arrived to escort them inside, where seating arrangements had already been meticulously arranged.
Lu Chan scanned the room and noticed that she and Mu Jin had been seated at opposite ends of the table, while Lu Qiong was placed right next to Mu Jin.
Lu Chan glanced at Lu Qiong, but before she could speak, Lu Qiong said, “Sister, I don’t mind where I sit.”
Satisfied, Lu Chan nodded and settled into the seat beside Mu Jin.
Mu Jin’s cheeks flushed crimson as she stole glances at Lu Chan. When their eyes met, she lowered her head, her face burning.
A servant approached and said, “Miss Mu, our young mistress requests your presence.”
“Alright,” Mu Jin replied, rising to her feet. She glanced at Lu Chan before following the servant out of the room.
The servant stopped before a room and said politely, “The young mistress is waiting for you inside.”
“Thank you,” Mu Jin replied, pushing open the door. She found Duan Miaohan elegantly seated, sipping tea in a beautifully appointed room.
Another cup of tea sat on the opposite side of the table, clearly prepared for her.
“Miss Mu, please have a seat,” Duan Miaohan said with a smile.
“Thank you,” Mu Jin replied, walking over and sitting down.
“Miss Mu, please have some tea,” Duan Miaohan said politely, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “It’s rare for just two Omegas to be alone together. We can finally relax.”
Mu Jin picked up the teacup and took a small sip.
Duan Miaohan watched her intently, a satisfied smile spreading across her face. “I heard your family runs a dessert shop and you used to deliver orders. Now that you’re the Yan Family’s young mistress, are you finding it difficult to adjust?”
“It’s fine,” Mu Jin replied with a gentle smile.
She had no desire to share her experiences with the Yan Family with someone she barely knew. Besides, she had mentally prepared herself from the beginning and had no regrets.
After a few polite exchanges, Duan Miaohan’s gaze remained fixed on Mu Jin, a hint of envy creeping into her eyes. “How did you and Sister Lu meet? She’s always so cold to everyone else, but she actually smiles at you.”
“Really?” Mu Jin blinked in surprise, the corners of her lips curving into a happy smile.
Though she could sense Lu Chan’s kindness toward her, she still struggled with self-doubt. Hearing it from someone else felt like a reassuring dose of medicine, bringing her a sense of peace.
Mu Jin took a shy sip of tea, a delicate blush coloring her cheeks.
Duan Miaohan sneered inwardly and deliberately said, “Sister Lu and I were very close when we were young. She always protected me and wouldn’t let anyone bully me.”
Mu Jin’s smile faltered at these words, a pang of sadness tugging at her heart.
Lu Chan had never spoken of her past, and Mu Jin had never dared to ask. Those times she hadn’t shared felt like a deep regret.
A sharp pain pierced Mu Jin’s heart, and a turbulent sensation surged through her body.
Her fingers nearly lost their grip on the teacup, almost dropping it to the floor.
Seeing her distress, Duan Miaohan said with a smile, “You look unwell. Why don’t you rest in the next room?”
Mu Jin frowned, sensing something was amiss.
Before she could voice her confusion, a servant entered and guided her to the adjacent room.
Mu Jin’s body burned with fever, and her strength seemed to have drained away, leaving her unable to resist.
The servant laid her on the bed, turned, and closed the door behind her.
Mu Jin frantically reached for her bag, wanting to call Lu Chan, but her phone was nowhere to be found.
Panic surged through her as another wave of heat washed over her body.
Mu Jin immediately realized the tea she had drunk earlier was spiked, triggering her heat cycle prematurely.
Lu Chan sat waiting for a while, but Mu Jin didn’t return.
The Duan Family had invited them, but only a butler was present to oversee the event. Duan Miaohan remained conspicuously absent.
Growing concerned, Lu Chan tried calling Mu Jin, only to find her phone was switched off.
An ominous feeling washed over her. She immediately rose and headed toward Duan Miaohan’s room.
Just as Lu Chan reached the door, Duan Miaohan emerged.
“Sister Lu, were you looking for me?” Duan Miaohan asked, her voice filled with feigned surprise.
“Where’s Xiao Jin?” Lu Chan demanded, her cold tone betraying her anxiety.
“Miss Mu already left. Didn’t she go out?” Duan Miaohan asked innocently, her face a picture of guileless confusion.
Lu Chan frowned, glancing around the room.
Duan Miaohan stood nervously beside her, forcing a smile. “Maybe you just missed each other. Let’s go check—Miss Mu should be seated by now.”
Ignoring her, Lu Chan stepped aside and called Lu Qiong. “Have you seen Xiao Jin?”
“No, wasn’t she just leaving with a servant?” Lu Qiong replied.
“Okay, I understand.” Lu Chan hung up, her icy gaze fixed on Duan Miaohan. “Xiao Jin didn’t leave. Tell me where she is.”
“I don’t know,” Duan Miaohan stammered, her smile faltering.
Lu Chan’s eyes narrowed. “If anything happens to Xiao Jin, you’ll have offended not only the Yan Family, but the Lu Family as well.”
“I really don’t know… We talked for a bit, and then she left…” Duan Miaohan said, her voice trembling with feigned distress, tears welling in her eyes.
Lu Chan’s expression grew even colder.
