Her Wild Rose - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: Love Confession
She wants her to sing?
Su Qian blinked in surprise and raised an eyebrow, exchanging a look with Tang Tang. But Tang Tang only paused for a second after meeting her eyes, then lifted her chin and turned away haughtily.
Su Qian chuckled helplessly. This silly girl was clearly determined to make her handle it herself.
Fine. If she wants her to sing, she’ll sing.
Su Qian looked at Tang Tang with affectionate indulgence, then obediently stood up and walked toward the stage.
With her striking looks and tall, elegant figure, Su Qian instantly became the center of attention the moment she stood. Every pair of eyes in the bar turned toward her.
She casually tossed her waist-length hair over her shoulder, the soft strands catching the warm yellow stage lights and shining with a luster.
The young man who had just confessed to her was also stunned by her presence, his determined gaze slowly dulling, until he stared blankly at Su Qian’s back as if mesmerized. Every step she took seemed to prickle like needles on her skin under his burning stare.
Because of this little episode, the other patrons also put down their drinks and turned their heads, their eyes following Su Qian’s movements. In no time, as soft music played, whispers rippled through the crowd.
“Su the Actress really is magnetic. She captured everyone’s attention just now.”
“No wonder Tang Tang’s such a jealous little thing—”
“Haha, Tang Tang really gets jealous a lot. It feels like every time they go out together, she ends up jealous.”
“Right?! And she’s the type to get jealous and act cute. She’s so adorable I want to date her myself.”
“I want the cute one, but I can’t win against the one who acts like a movie queen.”
“By the way, that ‘Su Teacher’ nickname is spicy as hell. I highly suspect they’ve already gotten to that stage in the relationship.”
“Hey, we’re watching a proper variety show here. Keep the spicy stuff in the fan threads!”
…
“Su Teacher, are you hesitating?” Tang Tang teased, seeing that Su Qian was still dawdling. “If you don’t have any talent, that’s okay. Worst case, just meow like a cat.”
Wearing her white dress, the girl on stage looked like a little fox that had just stolen something, dimples dancing playfully at the corners of her lips.
“It’s just a song, right? Who’s afraid of who?” Su Qian returned to her usual lazy drawl as she stepped onto the stage in her heels, raising a brow at Tang Tang. “Silly girl, don’t cry when I win.”
That familiar playful tension rose again between them. Tang Tang lifted her chin and gazed at Su Qian’s face. In the past, she might have seen a trace of impatience there, but now, all she saw was tenderness like water.
Because Su Qian’s eyes were only filled with her.
Because they were in love.
“A bet’s a bet,” Tang Tang declared with a defiant smile, handing the mic to Su Qian—but not leaving the stage.
There was no background music. After a moment of hesitation, Su Qian chose to sing a French song a cappella. Her voice was low, somewhere between a heavenly soprano and a smoky alto, giving the melody a dreamy texture.
The moment the romantic French lyrics filled the air, the bar went silent. Everyone seemed to be absorbed, moved by the song’s emotional power.
Tang Tang froze slightly when she heard the familiar lyrics—she had once looped this song endlessly.
“Je t’aime.” I love you.
The dim little stage was nowhere near as bright or glamorous as the one in her memories, but Tang Tang was pulled back to their early days of living together. It was their first time appearing at an online literature convention after moving in together.
Back then, they were both still inexperienced authors—nothing like the poised pair they were now. Su Qian had worn a black, form-fitting dress, while Tang Tang had donned a gown that looked like it had been rented from a wedding photo studio.
The host, a young newcomer, had apparently been following their online gossip. At their very first meeting, he boldly asked a question neither of them knew how to answer.
“The New Year is coming—what would you like to say to each other?”
Tang Tang had been about to speak, but Su Qian gently grasped her wrist and took the mic first, turning to Tang Tang with a professional smile in her eyes.
“Tang Tang,”
If it weren’t for their tightly clasped hands and Su Qian’s fingers drawing shapes in her palm, Tang Tang would’ve truly believed they were nothing more than colleagues—and not even particularly close ones.
That ticklish sensation in her palm took her back to those high school days of sneaking glances at each other behind the teacher’s back. She’d stood there, heart pounding, deciphering the strokes traced on her palm.
She replayed that moment in her mind over and over until, during a shoot in Paris, she finally understood what Su Qian had written.
“Tang Tang.”
I love you, Tang Tang.
Even after all these years, Su Qian’s love still burned hot enough to scorch. Only now did Tang Tang fully realize—
Su Qian had always loved her just as fiercely.
The song Su Qian picked wasn’t long. Just as Tang Tang’s memories ended, the music faded to its final notes.
Standing just behind Su Qian, her eyes were glued to the other woman’s back. Her gaze was so intense it could’ve melted through fabric. Watching that tall, proud figure, emotions surged like crashing waves inside her.
She used to think she had loved Su Qian deeply and that it was Su Qian who had let her down. But now, with the haze between them cleared, she realized—
Su Qian’s love had never fallen short.
“You… finished singing?”
As soon as their eyes met, Tang Tang flinched and quickly looked away, as if burned. She lowered her head, nervously tugging at the hem of her dress. The stiff fabric quickly creased under her fingers, making her look even more flustered.
“Mm, I’m done.”
Su Qian smiled brightly and stepped forward. She reached out to smooth the creases in Tang Tang’s dress.
Applause erupted from the audience below. The two women looked into each other’s eyes and saw nothing but blazing affection. Though they were standing close, with the audience below and that stunned boy watching, all they could do was communicate silently with their eyes.
“Give me a minute. There’s one more little issue I need to take care of.”
Su Qian could tell Tang Tang had a lot to say. She reached out to gently pat her head, then stepped off the stage.
Facing the boy again, she took a sip of the Rose of No Man’s Land cocktail. The reddish liquid glistened as it slid past her lips. Setting the glass down, she flashed a lazy smile.
“Kid, as you wished—I’m already taken.”
She pointed her chin toward Tang Tang with a smirk, then added, “I’ve never been a serious person, but all the seriousness I do have—I’ve given it to her. So are you sure you still want to like someone like me, knowing it’ll never work out?”
“Aaaaaah! She confessed!”
“We’ve waited so long—Su Qian finally said it out loud!”
“She’s so good at flirting. She really sounds like a reformed bad girl!”
“Wait… why does that guy look kinda familiar?”
“Yeah, right? I feel like I’ve seen him before. Anyone from Liangcheng know who he is?”
“That guy? He’s a total slacker. I heard he’s petty and vengeful—messed up a bunch of people before.”
“Wait—does that mean Tang Tang and Su Qian might be in danger…?”
—
“But…”
The boy bit his lip, face still holding that stubborn youthful resolve. His knuckles turned pale as he clenched his fists.
“I’m willing to wait. Even if there’s no hope, I’ll still wait.”
“But I’m not willing.”
Su Qian’s expression finally turned serious. She gave him a long, appraising look. Her once-lazy gaze now sharpened.
“Kid, you just came of age, right? Let me give you your first adult lesson—when someone says they’re not willing, they mean it. You should take the hint and move on.”
Her voice cooled as she spoke. She stared at him, inwardly wondering how today’s kids could be so blind to signals.
Everyone in the bar had at least a rough idea of what had happened. While getting hit on was normal in bars, this guy’s clingy behavior was making everyone uncomfortable.
“So… the reason you won’t be with me is because of her?”
Chen Shen finally looked at Tang Tang. His eyes swept over her, disdain flickering in his expression.
“You like them young and naive, huh? Well, I can be like that too.”
Did he just call her naive?
Tang Tang let out a cold laugh, furious. She was about to speak up when Su Qian raised her hand, signaling her to stay silent.
Tang Tang obediently shut her mouth and stood quietly, watching as Su Qian defended her.
“You can’t be like her.” Su Qian’s rejection was even more firm this time. “And if you keep pestering me like this, I’ll call the staff.”
At the threat, Chen Shen’s face finally changed. He looked uneasy and stepped back a bit.
“I’m sorry, sis. I was being reckless.” He put on a polite tone. “Then I wish you and your partner eternal happiness. I won’t disturb you again.”
He left their booth, walked to a quiet corner, and pulled out his phone.
“Hey, there’s someone at ‘Yujian’ Bar. Handle it for me. The price is negotiable.”
