Tang Tang and Su Qian hadn’t even gotten home yet when their related hashtags once again shot to the top of the trending list.
This time, the production team didn’t waste a second of this free publicity. Barely ten minutes after they topped the trending search, the team had already clipped together screenshots of all the ambiguous moments between Tang Tang and Su Qian on the show and posted them to Weibo, dominating the top spot.
In just a few minutes, the video had already surpassed a million shares.
Elsewhere, the car finally stopped at a red light. Tang Tang was still sulking, upset that Su Qian had spoken during the call without asking her permission first. She sat stiffly in the passenger seat, ignoring her.
“What’s wrong?” Su Qian noticed the low pressure coming from the person next to her. Trying to be nice, she reached out to grab Tang Tang’s wrist, only to be met with a cold hum. Then, Tang Tang turned away to stare out the window.
No need to ask—she was clearly mad again.
Su Qian gave a helpless smile. She decided not to argue with this stubborn little girl today. Glancing at the 30 seconds left on the red light, she made up her mind not to carry this tension into the next stoplight.
“Tang Tang? Silly girl? My little dumpling? Darling, will you forgive me, please?”
The nicknames coming out of Su Qian’s mouth grew progressively more cringe-inducing, sounding almost ridiculous coming from her usual cool and elegant face.
Tang Tang’s ears began to blush from those nicknames, and despite herself, she turned her head—convincing herself it was just a neck-stretching exercise.
Truthfully, even now she didn’t quite know why she was angry. It was probably because Su Qian speaking without her permission annoyed her, and she had just instinctively lost her temper.
But this kind of emotional impulsiveness wasn’t like her.
Tang Tang felt conflicted. She had always known she was the one least entitled to throw tantrums—especially in front of someone like Su Qian, whom she loved deeply.
Would Su Qian think she was annoying? Or too dramatic?
Normally carefree, Tang Tang found herself genuinely tangled in self-doubt for once.
“What’s the matter? Is it because I’m too pretty and you couldn’t look away?”
Su Qian caught Tang Tang’s gaze at just the right moment. She assumed the girl was still mad, completely unaware that Tang Tang was just feeling emotionally low. Continuing to tease, she gave her a playful smile and added, “How about this, Boss Tang? Why don’t you buy me and take me home? I’m perfect for both house and home.”
Lately, Su Qian had somehow unlocked a new skill for flirty banter. In just a few days, it felt like she was making up for twenty years of never saying such things.
She hadn’t even finished the joke when suddenly, Tang Tang, who had just been resisting her hand, lowered her head—and a cold teardrop splashed onto Su Qian’s hand that was gripping her sleeve.
“What—what’s wrong?”
The light turned green, and the honking horns behind them grew louder. Su Qian scrambled to pull some tissues from her pocket, shoved them into Tang Tang’s hand, and then hit the gas to steer the car safely over to the curb.
“What’s wrong? Why the tears now, hmm?” She reached out gently to wipe away the tears on Tang Tang’s cheek, eyes brimming with worry and tenderness.
All this time, Su Qian had believed with confidence that she was the one who could bring Tang Tang joy and happiness. But now, all signs seemed to suggest she hadn’t been able to do that yet.
For a moment, Su Qian felt defeated.
But only for a moment—she quickly adjusted her mindset and turned to comfort the girl whose eyes were now puffy from crying. “Was it because what I did just now put you in the spotlight? I can post a statement on Weibo right now to clarify things, okay?”
Tang Tang sniffled and curled herself up like a little ball. She could see that Su Qian was doing everything she could to fix things. But that only made her feel even more unworthy of her.
“No… don’t.” Tang Tang tried to steady her voice. She turned to Su Qian, looking at her earnestly. “Do you… think I’m annoying?”
What kind of question was that?
For a second, Su Qian was stunned. Then, as if something clicked, she suddenly reached out and pinched Tang Tang’s soft, squishy cheek.
“What are you saying, silly girl? Of course not. How could I ever find you annoying?”
The smile on Su Qian’s face was sincere and effortless—clearly from the heart. Tang Tang, dazzled by it, found herself a little lost in her lover’s expression.
“You really mean it?”
Tang Tang’s question was fragmented, but Su Qian immediately understood what she meant. She nodded, pulled Tang Tang’s hand to her chest, and placed it right over her heart. The strong, steady beat of her heart pulsed through her clothes and into Tang Tang’s warm palm.
“Yes, I really mean it. You can feel it—even through the fabric.”
In that moment, all of Tang Tang’s unease melted away, soothed completely by Su Qian’s words. She turned to Su Qian with sparkling eyes.
“Then… pinky promise?”
“Okay. Pinky swear, a hundred years, no take-backs.”
Just then, Tang Tang’s phone buzzed—it was a new friend request. She looked questioningly at Su Qian, and after receiving a small nod, tapped “Accept.”
Almost instantly, several photos came in, ending with a handwritten note.
Tang Tang opened them one by one. After a bit of loading, she finally saw what they were.
The first photo: Chen Shen and Li Ye’s newly approved passports.
The second: Chen Shen’s hospital discharge papers.
The third: two airplane tickets.
Their flight from Liao’an airport to a faraway country across the ocean was scheduled to depart in just thirty minutes.
“That’s so sudden…”
Tang Tang felt a bit hollow inside, not sure what to say for a moment. But then she thought—if she were in Chen Shen’s place, she’d probably want to leave just as quickly.
And suddenly, she remembered something Chen Shen had murmured before leaving.
“Su Qian, he didn’t even get to say goodbye to Li Xiang.”
“Yeah… they never got a proper goodbye.” Su Qian rarely sighed, but she did now. She patted Tang Tang’s head gently, trying to comfort her. “At least he has Li Ye by his side now. He’s a professional doctor, so I’m sure Chen Shen won’t have it too bad.”
“True. He left to heal anyway.” Tang Tang nodded, but her eyes lingered on the note for a long time, rereading the words “Goodbye” so many times it felt like she’d carved them into her mind. She turned to Su Qian with a smile.
“Didn’t we say we’d be filming the variety show tomorrow? Let’s go home.”
