His Addiction - Chapter 46
Liang Jinmo also saw Liang Mushi.
However, they had barely spoken before. Even now, they were like strangers. He looked down and continued watching the footage.
Xu Zhi, after her initial surprise, quickly recovered and turned back to the screen.
She didn’t acknowledge Liang Mushi.
Liang Mushi’s face tightened. As a young master, he wasn’t used to being ignored like this.
Liang Jinmo suddenly pointed at the screen. “Here. This should be when you entered the slope.”
Xu Zhi saw it too, her attention focused on the footage.
Liang Mushi, without a word, walked over and stood behind them, looking at the screen.
Xu Zhi slowly rewound the footage, quickly finding the scene where she and Chen Jing were standing at the top of the slope while Liang Mushi was skiing.
However, the camera angle was from behind and to the side of Xu Zhi.
It only showed Chen Jing falling backwards, not their hands.
Xu Zhi’s back stiffened. She knew Liang Mushi was watching the footage too.
She searched for other camera angles but couldn’t find a better one.
To avoid obstructing the view, there weren’t many cameras in the central area of the ski slopes.
She rubbed her forehead, watching the footage of Chen Jing leaning in to whisper in her ear. That was when Chen Jing had said, “Don’t blame me.”
But the footage had no sound. She couldn’t prove anything to Liang Mushi.
A heavy silence filled the room.
After a long moment, Xu Zhi released the mouse and turned to Liang Jinmo. “Let’s go.”
Liang Jinmo: “Not going to look anymore?”
“No, there’s no useful footage.” She stood up, glancing at Liang Mushi. “That’s all there is to it.”
Liang Jinmo also stood up.
As Xu Zhi took a step forward, her wrist was suddenly grasped.
Liang Mushi held her wrist. “Xu Zhi, let’s talk.”
Xu Zhi didn’t know what he wanted to say. Was he going to accuse her again? Her face expressionless, she asked, “Didn’t you say enough yesterday?”
Liang Mushi frowned, glancing at Liang Jinmo, then asked Xu Zhi, “Why are you with him again?”
Xu Zhi was surprised by his focus. She said calmly, “It’s none of your business.”
Liang Mushi felt a surge of anger. His gaze turned cold. “Why have you become like this?”
He seemed disappointed in her. She felt numb, too exhausted even to argue. “People change.”
Her indifferent attitude only angered Liang Mushi further. He tightened his grip on her wrist and pulled her towards the door.
Xu Zhi winced in pain, trying to pull her hand away, but she couldn’t break free.
Liang Jinmo followed them out and stopped Liang Mushi in the corridor, his expression cold. “She doesn’t want to go with you.”
Liang Mushi looked at him, a sneer playing on his lips. “Who are you to stop me? Don’t think you can tell me what to do just because you work at the company. I can have you fired with a single word.”
Xu Zhi panicked.
She couldn’t let Liang Jinmo suffer because of her. She gritted her teeth and said to Liang Jinmo, “It’s okay… It’s not a good place to talk. I’ll just go outside and talk to him. I’ll be right back. Wait for me.”
Liang Jinmo frowned, about to say something, but Liang Mushi dragged Xu Zhi away.
Liang Jinmo raised his hand, blocking Liang Mushi’s path. “Let go of her.”
Liang Mushi’s face hardened, his grip on Xu Zhi’s wrist tightening.
Xu Zhi felt like her wrist was about to break. She couldn’t help but cry out, “Liang Mushi, I already agreed to talk to you! What more do you want?! Do you have to break my wrist to avenge Chen Jing?!”
Liang Mushi finally came to his senses.
He knew he had been using too much force. Xu Zhi’s face was pale.
But he never backed down. He released her wrist as if he were disgusted by her touch.
Xu Zhi rubbed her reddened wrist and said to Liang Jinmo, “Go ahead. I’ll call you later.”
Liang Mushi found their behavior absurd. Were they really that close? Acting so chummy in front of him.
He turned to leave, throwing a sentence over his shoulder. “Xu Zhi, come get your luggage. Otherwise, I’ll throw it away.”
Liang Jinmo was about to speak, but Xu Zhi had already run after Liang Mushi.
He hesitated for a moment, then followed them.
Liang Mushi walked quickly, Xu Zhi jogging to keep up.
He didn’t look back. She didn’t know why she was putting herself through this. She thought this would be the last time. This young master wasn’t someone she could appease with her submissiveness.
Liang Mushi reached the hotel parking lot and turned around, seeing Xu Zhi running towards him, out of breath.
She stopped, her breathing still ragged, and didn’t speak.
“Liang Jinmo has always resented me,” he said. “He’s getting close to you to get revenge on me. And you? Are you trying to get revenge on me too? What right do you have? Chen Jing is injured, and I haven’t even settled the score with you yet. Now you’re hanging out with that bastard. As my childhood friend, are you trying to humiliate me?”
Xu Zhi caught her breath and looked at Liang Mushi. She no longer wanted to argue with him about who was responsible for Chen Jing’s injury. He wouldn’t believe her anyway.
She said, “If you’re done, can I have my luggage back?”
Liang Mushi unlocked the car with his key but didn’t open the trunk immediately. He leaned against the car, staring at her, his expression cold. “Let’s be clear. What do you mean? I thought we could just move on, but now you’re siding with Liang Jinmo. Are you trying to be my enemy?”
Xu Zhi was silent for a moment, then said firmly, “Jinmo Gege is my friend…”
She paused. “A very important friend.”
“How important?” Liang Mushi scoffed. “More important than our twenty years of friendship?”
Xu Zhi’s lips pursed, and she suddenly laughed, a desolate, heartbreaking laugh. “Liang Mushi, our twenty years ended yesterday.”
Liang Mushi’s face hardened, his heart aching as if it had been stabbed.
He swallowed, his fists clenching until his knuckles turned white. But he refused to back down, sneering, “What a coincidence. I was thinking the same thing. My friends shouldn’t hurt my girlfriend, and they shouldn’t associate with my father’s bastard. That guy’s blood is dirty. You’re always with him… Just looking at you makes me sick.”
Xu Zhi’s face paled, stung by his words. Suddenly, she realized something.
This was how Liang Jinmo had been treated all his life in the Liang family.
She didn’t know if he had ever fought back, but she couldn’t tolerate it any longer.
Her voice firm and unwavering, she said, “Jinmo Gege is not a ‘bastard.’ He’s innocent. He’s the victim of your bullying. He grew up in adversity but remained strong and kind to me. And you? You’re just a spoiled, good-for-nothing playboy. What else can you do besides play?”
Liang Mushi was stunned.
Xu Zhi had never spoken to him like this before. He couldn’t even process her sharp words.
“You and Chen Jing are a perfect match. Let her keep you entertained.” Xu Zhi smiled. She took out her phone, deleted Liang Mushi’s contact information, and showed him the screen. “I wish you two a long and happy life together. Liang Mushi, let’s end things here. I’ll try to avoid you in the future. I hope you’ll do the same.”
