His Addiction - Chapter 47
Liang Mushi stood there, frozen, his mind blank, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Why were he and Xu Zhi arguing about Liang Jinmo?
This had never happened before.
He hadn’t even brought up Chen Jing’s injury again. He had only said a few things about Liang Jinmo, but she had deleted his contact information, right in front of him, as if she wanted to sever all ties with him.
Could they really sever ties? Their families were neighbors, their friendship spanning generations.
His mind raced with chaotic thoughts. Xu Zhi was actually breaking up with him for that bastard.
Xu Zhi put away her phone and asked, “Can I have my luggage now?”
It was ironic. The luggage was in his car because he had insisted on picking her up from school.
He had never been treated so coldly in his life.
He turned and opened the trunk, yanking out her suitcase roughly.
He threw it on the ground with a loud thud.
Suppressing his anger, he gritted his teeth and said, “Get lost.”
Xu Zhi was fed up. This young master was actually taking his anger out on a suitcase.
She didn’t want to argue with him anymore. She bent down, picked up her suitcase, and walked away without looking back.
As she reached the exit of the parking lot, she saw Liang Jinmo.
He had followed her. Was he worried about her?
She smiled at him, indicating that she was fine.
Liang Jinmo walked over silently and took her suitcase. “Let’s go.”
Liang Mushi watched their retreating figures, their closeness a stark contrast to his own isolation.
He kicked his car, cursing under his breath.
He was furious with Xu Zhi, unable to understand why she had changed so much, why she was always opposing him.
It had to be Liang Jinmo. Liang Jinmo must have instigated this. It was probably some kind of revenge. He clenched his fists, a thought forming in his mind.
As they left the parking lot, Xu Zhi’s shoulders slumped.
She was listless and silent. Liang Jinmo decided to take her to the hotel to find Yang Xue.
Yang Xue was startled by Xu Zhi’s haggard appearance and quickly asked what had happened, why she was with Director Liang.
Xu Zhi didn’t hide anything, telling her everything.
Yang Xue was even angrier than she was, clenching her fists. “Is that Chen Jing crazy?! You weren’t even competing with her for Liang Mushi! It’s Liang Mushi who’s been clinging to you!”
Xu Zhi’s eyes were filled with despair. “It’s okay. He probably won’t contact me anymore.”
He had driven her away without hesitation for Chen Jing.
He had talked about their twenty years of friendship… Twenty years, and he didn’t even trust her.
“I’m so angry!” Yang Xue fumed. “Liang Mushi used you to cover for his date, and you didn’t even argue with him. And now they’re accusing you!”
Zhou He, who had been listening to their conversation, finally understood the situation.
It seemed that Xu Zhi and Liang Jinmo’s half-brother, Liang Mushi, had a complicated history.
He exchanged a look with Liang Jinmo.
The two men left the hotel room and walked to the end of the corridor.
Zhou He couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer. “What’s going on between Xu Zhi and that Liang Mushi?”
Liang Jinmo: “Didn’t she tell you?”
Zhou He said, “I just don’t want you to get into any more trouble. As your friend, I want you to find someone, but there are plenty of other women. Your position in the Liang family is already sensitive. It’ll be troublesome if you make an enemy within Liang Corp. because of Xu Zhi.”
If Liang Mushi wanted to join Liang Corp., it would be as easy as pie. And he was the rightful heir. Liang Jinmo’s position would be precarious then.
Liang Jinmo lit a cigarette, his tone indifferent. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Besides, I don’t have to stay at Liang Corp.”
Zhou He thought he had misheard. “You mean, you would give up everything at Liang Corp. for Xu Zhi?”
“I do everything for myself,” Liang Jinmo looked out the window. “Don’t worry, I won’t leave unless I have to. But if I do, I’ll make arrangements for the team.”
“That’s not what I meant. Sigh…” Zhou He was frustrated. “Is Xu Zhi that important to you?”
This time, Liang Jinmo seemed to consider the question for a moment before answering. “I just don’t want to have any regrets.”
They had lunch at the hotel restaurant. During the meal, Liang Jinmo and his team had a brief meeting about the online app for the ski resort.
Xu Zhi, claiming she had no appetite, stayed in Yang Xue’s room. She was afraid of running into Liang Mushi at the restaurant.
As she sat there, lost in thought, replaying the events of the past two days, someone knocked on the door.
She opened the door and saw a hotel staff member.
The staff member delivered a meal and a bottle of iced water, saying, “Director Liang asked me to bring this to you.”
Xu Zhi took the food and went back inside. She received a WeChat message from Liang Jinmo:
Eat something and use the iced water to reduce the swelling around your eyes. We’ll be heading back soon.
Xu Zhi’s feelings were complicated. After eating, she lay down on the bed, using the iced water as a cold compress for her eyes. She thought, Liang Jinmo seems to be everywhere in my life lately.
He seemed cold and distant, but his attention to detail, his concern for her, was something she had never experienced before.
Her thoughts naturally drifted back to last night, in that small cabin, when he had been standing behind her, holding her hand, asking if she was considering anyone else.
Was he referring to… himself?
It seemed unlikely. After all, she had hurt him before, more than once.
Liang Mushi’s words came back to her: “Liang Jinmo has always resented me. He’s getting close to you to get revenge on me.”
If Liang Jinmo really was seeking revenge…
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a keycard beeping and the door opening.
“Yang Xue?” she said, her eyes closed, the iced water bottle still resting on them. She didn’t want to move.
The person didn’t answer, their footsteps approaching.
Xu Zhi sensed something was wrong. Yang Xue was always cheerful and boisterous, never entering a room silently.
As the person leaned closer, she quickly removed the water bottle and sat up.
Liang Jinmo was leaning over her, one hand on the bed. Xu Zhi sat up so abruptly that she almost bumped into his face. She stopped just short.
Their eyes met. Xu Zhi felt his breath on her face, his familiar features so close. Her heart skipped a beat. “You… why are you back…?”
She expected him to step back, but he didn’t.
She couldn’t lie back down now, could she? Her mind raced, wondering why he wasn’t speaking.
Nervous, she swallowed unconsciously.
Liang Jinmo’s dark eyes dropped from her slightly swollen eyes to her lips.
She didn’t know why she noticed such a subtle movement, but her heart started pounding, her breathing shallowing.
