- Chapter 6 - Please, Take Me Away
Gu Zhichou cleared her throat narcissistically, the tips of her ears flushing crimson.
“But with my looks, she’ll definitely fall for me easily,” she declared, then turned her head with a huff. “But I’ll never like her back. I’m a Miss, after all.”
The bullet comments erupted, reveling in her feigned haughtiness:
Exactly! Zhizhi’s right about everything!
Let her fall head over heels for you, then make her chase you!
Our Zhizhi is so clever…
Gu Zhichou decided she couldn’t bear to read any more of these comments. She was getting dizzy from all the flattery.
She was a young lady of noble birth! How could she let a few sweet words stir her heart?
If she couldn’t even resist this, how would she ever find that woman?
As Gu Zhichou was lost in her thoughts, the hospital room door creaked open.
Ning Yiyuan stood in the doorway, his expression helpless. He had just been assigned to work when he received word that Gu Zhichou had slipped out of her room and was wandering the hospital.
These days, earning a living is truly tough.
He cleared his throat, preparing to nag her again.
“Miss, you’re being discharged tomorrow. You should be resting properly today—”
“Stop!” Gu Zhichou tossed the pillow from her lap onto the bed and sighed deeply. She rolled up the sleeves of her hospital gown, deliberately exposing her slender, frail wrists as she crossed her arms over her chest. Her eyes instantly reddened, tears welling up in them—innocent and pitiful, as if she had deeply regretted her actions.
“Uncle Ning, just tell me what my flaws are…”
The slightly tearful, trembling voice suddenly triggered Ning Yiyuan’s memories.
He had watched Gu Zhichou grow up.
She’s always been a good girl who admits her mistakes and tries to improve…
But that thought shattered in the next moment.
“…I’ll zoom in for you.”
Gu Zhichou grinned, feigning innocence. “Uncle Ning, you know I’m still just a kid. It’s normal to have flaws.”
“So about tomorrow’s discharge procedures…”
The flesh on Ning Yiyuan’s face sagged. “There’s even less room for discussion now.”
He said this, but he had already contacted Father Gu and Mother Gu. He couldn’t realistically keep her here. Otherwise, the hospital would descend into chaos. After all, letting her leave was better than having her running around barefoot outside.
Ning Yiyuan watched her frustrated, embarrassed expression, rubbed his forehead, and shook his head.
“Miss, get some rest. We’ll talk about tomorrow tomorrow.”
But she couldn’t wait. What if Qiao Zhiyue showed up first thing tomorrow?
Her worries were unfounded.
As a character in a comic, she could simply skip to the next scene with a single panel.
At that moment, the air shimmered slightly.
Gu Zhichou blinked in confusion.
Suddenly, it was the next morning, and she was lying in bed.
The bullet comments flooded the screen, finding nothing unusual.
Outside, approaching voices grew louder.
It was Qiao Zhiyue and Lin Ruoyun.
Gu Zhichou swiftly threw back the covers and got out of bed. This couldn’t continue.
She was about to be dragged back into the predetermined main storyline, where those two would flaunt their affection while swindling her out of money.
What should I do? What should I do…?
Gu Zhichou took a deep breath. She had no choice but to force her way through.
No matter what, she had to try.
The shackles of capitalism end here today!
I’ll take them down before the plot even begins!
Standing outside, Ning Yiyuan only heard the door open.
Then came a wave of overwhelming presence.
Gu Zhichou, still in her hospital gown, burst out of the room, delivering a shocking blow to the two hand-in-hand figures.
She slapped them both hard across the face, one after the other.
By stunning the protagonists, she would prevent them from triggering the plot.
Qiao Zhiyue and Lin Ruoyun were indeed dumbfounded.
She froze in place, her cheek stinging and swelling from the slap.
Gu Zhichou sprinted ahead, glancing back to see them still motionless. Finally, I’ve succeeded this time, he thought.
But instantly, space-time shimmered, and Gu Zhichou found himself standing at the library entrance. Beside him stood the detestable Qiao Zhiyue and several bodyguards.
Confused, she couldn’t understand what had happened. She looked up at the bullet comments, which were going wild:
Did I see that right? They didn’t get their money and Zhizhi slapped them!
Oh my god, she’s still hitting her! What a greedy little cat!
Gu Zhichou’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, but this time she hadn’t intended to strike. Her body moved against her will, slapping Qiao Zhiyue’s face repeatedly.
“Zhichou, why…? Never mind. If you really want to hit me,” Qiao Zhiyue said, “I’ll accept anything. I just want to know why.”
Gu Zhichou scowled at the irritating voice. “Why, why, why? Even the Calabash Brothers didn’t call their grandpa as much as you whine!”
Even though she was the one being hit, Qiao Zhiyue dragged Lin Ruoyun into it. The problem was, Lin Ruoyun wasn’t even present.
What had happened in the previous scene? Had Lin Ruoyun stormed off in anger?
Gu Zhichou’s head throbbed. Not only had the scene suddenly changed, but she had also lost part of her memory. She wondered what the author intended by making her slap Qiao Zhiyue.
Never mind, she thought.
A wicked smile spread across Gu Zhichou’s face.
“I’ll deal with this later,” Gu Zhichou thought, focusing on beating Qiao Zhiyue.
But soon, Qiao Zhiyue’s expression turned strange.
Her tear-streaked cheeks were swollen and red. She took a few steps toward Gu Zhichou, as if to throw herself into her arms.
“Zhichou, I know you resent me,” Qiao Zhiyue said. “After this, I swear I’ll only be with you.”
Who wants you around? Gu Zhichou screamed inwardly, completely paralyzed.
No wonder… no wonder the author set up this scene.
Only now did she understand.
This was a classic “villain redemption” plot device.
The more Gu Zhichou beat Qiao Zhiyue, the more her own ruthlessness was highlighted, while the female lead’s innocence and remorse became even more apparent.
The author was forcing them to reconcile.
And since Gu Zhichou had struck so hard, she would have no reason to avoid Qiao Zhiyue in the future. After all, according to the plot, they were supposed to be best “friends.”
This meant more scenes of them alone together.
Gu Zhichou had no intention of letting that happen. She wanted to kill the female lead and take her place.
The bodyguards surrounding them stood like statues, as if deliberately ensuring she completed this reconciliation scene.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl.
A gentle breeze lifted the hem of Gu Zhichou’s skirt.
Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a figure.
The person was carrying a tall stack of books that obscured their face, gradually pushing through the crowd, about to brush past her.
Gu Zhichou’s eyes lit up. It was her.
Qiao Zhiyue was about to pounce on her. Gu Zhichou clenched her jaw, fighting with all her might against the controlling force, and reached out her hand.
Please, take me away.
The woman tilted her head slightly, a strand of hair lifting from her temple. She saw the hand reaching out, as if begging for help.
The books in her arms crashed to the ground. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her fingers stretched out urgently. She grabbed Gu Zhichou’s hand and pulled her through the crowd.
This time, no matter how blinding the sunlight or how blurry the face, Gu Zhichou turned around and removed the woman’s hat.
Time resumed its flow. The constraints of space shattered instantly.
Gu Zhichou lowered her head and met a pair of clear, bewildered eyes.
Moss suddenly sprouted from the rotting skull.
In her ruined fate, a lamp had lit up.
