How About A Divorce? - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: A Fever
I don’t know what strange website Lin Yanqing’s brain was connected to. That night, after the two of them finished off two peaches, two sets of clothes were also ruined. Wen Yu was too tired to curse anymore, but Lin Yanqing was still coaxing her in her ear, “Curse me again.”
“You’re sick.”
“Change it,” Lin Yanqing said. “I’m tired of hearing that one.”
Wen Yu gritted her teeth. “You jerk.”
Wen Yu was unhappy and used a little force, successfully making Lin Yanqing unable to speak coherently.
When Lin Yanqing finally finished, Wen Yu felt like she was going to die.
The next day, when Wen Yu woke up, Lin Yanqing had already packed all the luggage.
“Are you really going?”
“Yes.”
“Is the company okay?”
“The team I hired with money isn’t there to do nothing.”
Wen Yu sat down at the dining table and ate the meal Lin Yanqing made. As she ate, she said, “Then why were you as busy as a dog before?”
Lin Yanqing: “You’re the dog.”
“So, what’s wrong with your mom?”
Wen Yu asked.
Yesterday, Lin Yanqing had changed the subject so abruptly that Wen Yu didn’t have time to ask for details.
Lin Yanqing: “Nothing big.”
“Really?”
“Do I look like I’d go bankrupt?” Lin Yanqing’s tone was normal, but it gave people a great sense of security.
“That’s true,” Wen Yu nodded. “If you worked yourself to death and ended up going bankrupt, all those years of effort would have been for nothing.”
“No, I should say your life would have been for nothing,” Wen Yu emphasized.
Lin Yanqing: “…”
Her ten-odd years of life were just dismissed by a single, casual sentence from Young Miss Wen.
“Let’s go. The driver is waiting downstairs.” Wen Yu didn’t see anything missing, so she closed the suitcase.
The two of them put their things together. Lin Yanqing dragged the suitcase while Wen Yu followed with her hands empty, as leisurely as an old lady.
She held up her phone and filmed Lin Yanqing’s back.
“Getting ready to go on a vacation to the island.”
After filming a segment, Wen Yu put her phone away.
“What are you filming?” Lin Yanqing asked.
“Content for a video.”
Lin Yanqing knew Wen Yu had an account and was following it, but she didn’t check it often.
It was already afternoon when they got to the ferry terminal. After finding a random restaurant to eat at, the ferry that was supposed to pick them up also arrived.
The ferry was not fast. Lin Yanqing was a little seasick, so she just stayed in the room. Wen Yu also didn’t want to go out in the sun, so she sat on the sofa next to Lin Yanqing.
When they got to the island, the butler had prepared dinner. Wen Yu had planned to have dinner outside, but the weather was not good. A heavy rain suddenly fell, and the air was filled with damp water vapor.
“I was planning to film an outdoor scene,” Wen Yu held up her phone to the heavy rain and said regretfully. “It’s a shame. There’s a small lake behind us. It’s really beautiful.”
Wen Yu turned off the video recording. Lin Yanqing spoke. “Come eat.”
Her voice was weak, and she was surprisingly tired. “Rest after you eat.”
Wen Yu looked at Lin Yanqing in surprise. “You have times when you go to bed early?”
“I’ve been working too hard lately. I’ll catch up on sleep these next few days.”
She had been as busy as a spinning top possessed by a demon lately. She could probably be a contender for the Guinness World Record for “best spinning top.”
“Oh, so you can get tired too.”
“I’m not an ironman.”
“You’re not much different from one.”
Wen Yu still remembered the last time Lin Yanqing worked for two months straight. As soon as she got a vacation, she broke down. Wen Yu thought she would take a few days to recover, but then there was a problem with the board of directors. Before she was even fully recovered, she went back to the company that night to take charge.
At the time, Wen Yu was worried that she would be widowed at a young age, so she went to take care of her and slept at the company with Lin Yanqing. After a few days, she only felt that the gap between people was like a chasm. Wen Yu couldn’t understand this spirit of dedicating one’s life to a career. She just wanted to lie in bed and sleep soundly.
“Then I’ll be a carbon-based life form today.” Lin Yanqing propped up her chin and watched Wen Yu eat.
She felt a little dizzy. It was probably a lingering effect of seasickness.
After dinner, Lin Yanqing went back to her room to rest. Wen Yu was in the room next to her, organizing her video content.
When she was organizing the clips that had Lin Yanqing in them, Wen Yu hesitated. Although she had originally planned to film Lin Yanqing to add some human touch to the video, she still felt it was necessary to ask Lin Yanqing if she was willing to be on camera.
With that thought, she put on her slippers and went over.
The two rooms were connected by a public balcony. Wen Yu pushed the balcony door open. The sea breeze, wrapped in the moisture after the rain, hit her, bringing a strong chill.
Wen Yu quickly pushed open the other balcony door and scurried inside in a hurry.
“It’s so cold,” Wen Yu mumbled. She turned her head and saw Lin Yanqing curled up on the bed. Only a dim wall lamp was on in the room. “Lin Yanqing?”
Lin Yanqing’s head was also buried in the blanket. She didn’t make a sound.
She’s already asleep?
Wen Yu walked over and saw that Lin Yanqing’s eyes were closed, her brows were tightly furrowed, and her breathing was heavy, as if she was being suffocated by something.
“Lin Yanqing?” Wen Yu raised her hand and placed it on Lin Yanqing’s forehead. She was startled by the high temperature that her hand felt.
Even an idiot would know that Lin Yanqing had a high fever.
Young Miss Wen found even her own cold troublesome. She didn’t have much patience for a sick person with a high fever—especially when this person was her cheating wife. Her first reaction was to be a little stunned, and even a little disgusted.
“This is a karmic retribution.” Wen Yu muttered to herself and turned to find the butler.
Just as she took a step, her wrist was grabbed by a scorching hand.
The grip wasn’t strong, and it was even a little weak, but the heat in her palm made Wen Yu freeze. She didn’t subconsciously shake the person off.
The person on the bed had opened her eyes at some point. Her gaze was scattered and hazy. The inky black eyes she normally had were covered with a layer of moisture, looking wet. Lin Yanqing looked at her with these eyes, making Wen Yu almost unable to handle it. It even temporarily pushed aside the disagreements in their marriage. It was like seeing a soaking wet, trembling puppy on the side of the road. Even if it was troublesome, it was hard to be cruel and just walk away.
“You never say anything nice,” Lin Yanqing said softly.
Wen Yu was stunned. Connecting the context, she clicked her tongue and shook off Lin Yanqing’s hand. “You were faking it.”
What a waste of my emotions.
“You woke me up,” Lin Yanqing sat up. “What are you doing here?”
As she spoke, she reached up and touched her own forehead. Since her whole body was burning up, she couldn’t really tell the temperature herself. She just felt that it wasn’t a big deal.
Wen Yu: “I was organizing my content. There’s a clip of you in it. I just wanted to let you know. Don’t worry, your face won’t be visible.”
“Okay.” Lin Yanqing nodded. She got out of bed to find some medicine, but she didn’t expect her body to not keep up with her confidence. Her legs gave out, and she fell to her knees… right in front of Wen Yu.
Wen Yu immediately laughed and helped her up. “My dear, there’s no need for such a grand gesture. I’m just putting you in my video. I’m not promoting you.”
Lin Yanqing also chuckled. Before she could retort, her throat felt itchy. She grabbed Wen Yu’s hand to steady herself and coughed uncontrollably.
Wen Yu: “Why are you coughing so much?!”
Wen Yu was scared by the scene. She knelt down with Lin Yanqing and patted her back to help her breathe.
“I’ll call the butler.”
Wen Yu didn’t bring her phone. She picked up Lin Yanqing’s phone from the nightstand. “Unlock it.”
Lin Yanqing couldn’t respond to Wen Yu at all. She could only hold on to her tightly. Her thin body was bent like a fully drawn bowstring, trembling uncontrollably from the coughing.
Wen Yu was anxious. She subconsciously placed her finger on the fingerprint scanner. The next second, the chat interface with Lin Jiao popped up. There were no words, only voice calls.
Without bothering to wonder why she could unlock Lin Yanqing’s phone, Wen Yu went back and found the butler’s number to call him.
The butler hurriedly went to contact the resident doctor on the island.
Lin Yanqing’s coughing gradually stopped. She sat back on the bed and let go of Wen Yu’s hand as if she had no strength left. Her voice was hoarse. “Sorry.”
“You look very unapologetic,” Wen Yu said. Her hand was hot and red from being held.
She handed the phone back to Lin Yanqing.
“Why is my fingerprint on your phone?”
This was something Wen Yu really cared about.
“You saved it before when you used my phone to order takeout. Don’t you remember?”
Wen Yu really didn’t remember, but it did sound like something she would do.
Wen Yu asked about the things she was concerned about. “Aren’t you afraid that I’ll look through your phone?”
“I am,” Lin Yanqing said weakly.
Wen Yu’s heart sank.
Lin Yanqing: “There are some confidential files in there. If you look at them, I’ll be breaking the law.”
The sinking heart was forcefully stopped by the red line of the law.
“If you accidentally spread them, we’ll both go to jail.”
Wen Yu: “…”
This jerk Lin Yanqing is just talking nonsense again.
After the nonsense was done, Lin Yanqing didn’t say anything else. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Wen Yu thought there was nothing else for her to do here and was about to leave. Just as she was about to get up, she found that her shirt was being held in Lin Yanqing’s hand.
“Stay with me.” Lin Yanqing opened her eyes. Her eyes were red, and her hair was a mess. Her thin body was leaning against the headboard, and her head was tilted weakly, as if she had suffered a great injustice. Combined with her hoarse voice from coughing and her pleading tone, Wen Yu was instantly captivated by this image of a vulnerable beauty.
“Okay, okay. Since you’re begging me,” Wen Yu was blinded by her beauty. She sat down with a thud and raised her hand to tuck the strands of hair on Lin Yanqing’s face behind her ear. “You poor thing.”
Lin Yanqing suddenly buried the side of her face in Wen Yu’s palm. Her movements were soft and humble, but her eyes flew out and hooked Wen Yu. “Then pity me.”
Wen Yu’s whole body stiffened. She didn’t know whether to pull her hand away or not.
Why is this Lin Yanqing not being honest even when she has a fever?!
“Do you like me like this?” Lin Yanqing raised her hand and placed it on the back of Wen Yu’s hand, guiding her to stroke her own face. “How about this?”
Seeing her hand about to slide to the person’s chest, Wen Yu was so scared that she quickly pulled her hand back. Lin Yanqing, on the other hand, chuckled. “Why aren’t you pitying me anymore?”
Wen Yu knew that Lin Yanqing was just teasing her, but the anger of being played with couldn’t completely suppress the captivating look that this woman had just given her. It also couldn’t compare to the ambiguous temperature that she had left on her fingertips.
Suddenly, a heavy rain fell outside the window. The large raindrops hit the glass door of the balcony. The dull white noise covered the sound of Wen Yu’s out-of-control heartbeat. She pressed her hand to her chest, thinking, Beauty is a trap.
Lin Yanqing saw her clutching her chest and frowned. “Is your heart uncomfortable?”
Wen Yu shook her head.
At that moment, the butler came with a doctor. Wen Yu got up and moved aside. The doctor prescribed some medicine for Lin Yanqing and didn’t give her an IV drip.
“CEO Lin is having problems from being overworked. I suggest she get plenty of rest,” the doctor said.
Lin Yanqing: “Okay.”
After the doctor left, Wen Yu said, “Why don’t you take a vacation?”
Lin Yanqing: “I am on vacation.”
The butler had poured some warm water. Lin Yanqing put a few pills in her mouth and swallowed them all at once.
“I mean, don’t worry about the company.”
Lin Yanqing: “Does that sound reasonable to you?”
“It doesn’t,” Wen Yu said. “But I gave you my opinion. Whether it’s reasonable or not is not something I should be thinking about. It’s not my company.”
“It’s not mine either. I’m just a shareholder…” Lin Yanqing paused. “…the executive agent of the controlling shareholder.”
Just a cog in the machine under Lin Jiao.
Lin Yanqing didn’t want to talk about this anymore and changed the subject. “It seems like it’s going to rain for the next two days. How are you going to film your video?”
“I’ll just film whatever. It doesn’t matter. I don’t rely on this to make money anyway.”
The money this account made from all her hard work was not even as much as what she could get from shedding a few tears in front of Wen Yinghuan.
“Okay, I’m leaving. There’s nothing for me to do here,” Wen Yu said.
There was a doctor on standby and a butler waiting. There was indeed nothing for Wen Yu to do here.
“Why are you leaving?” Lin Yanqing patted the spot next to her on the bed. “Come up here.”
