How About A Divorce? - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Sleeping Together
Wen Yu looked at Lin Yanqing patting the empty space next to her on the bed and raised an eyebrow. “Are you delusional from the fever? Who wants to sleep with a sick person like you? Don’t get me sick.”
“Then we’ll be sick together,” Lin Yanqing said naturally.
“You really want to kill me,” Wen Yu said in surprise. “Are you trying to usurp the throne?”
Lin Yanqing could barely lift her eyelids. Her voice was hoarse as if it had been scraped with sandpaper. She casually agreed, “I’m worried that Your Majesty will be troubled to come and collect my body in the middle of the night, so I’m bothering you to stay with me personally.”
“No,” Wen Yu firmly refused. “An evil person lives for a thousand years. You’ll live to be seventy or eighty.”
Who would want to sleep with a sick person? It’s like lying next to a furnace.
“Thank you for your blessing,” Lin Yanqing said, blinking. “So, can you sleep with this evil person for one night? This evil person is a little tired.”
Lin Yanqing’s fever was probably caused by her inner fire.
Something had happened at Baiyi. The good way to put it was a change in structure. The bad way to put it was a factional struggle. Lin Jiao was slowly being isolated and her power was being hollowed out. She needed to sacrifice a pawn to protect the queen. This “queen” was Baiyi, and who the “pawn” was remained to be seen. The mother and daughter had talked about this several times, and it all came to nothing. Lin Yanqing could only follow the arrangements. She was uncharacteristically confused.
The sparks of confusion ignited the fatigue of the past few days, burning through her tense nerves and finally breaking down Lin Yanqing’s iron-hard body.
“I’m so tired. Stay with me,” Lin Yanqing said.
It was rare for Lin Yanqing to show weakness, and with the added buff of being sick, Wen Yu only hesitated for a second before turning to leave.
“Come back,” Lin Yanqing subconsciously called out, her voice not suppressing the bitterness in her heart and sounding a little stiff.
Wen Yu turned her head.
“It’s humid on the island, and it’s cold to sleep alone,” Lin Yanqing paused, seeming to gather her strength before finishing the second half of the sentence. “…You can warm me up.”
It was as if she could cover up her true feelings by finding an excuse, but the excuse was really far-fetched.
Wen Yu laughed. “Which part of your body did you use to think of that?”
Who’s warming up who?
Lin Yanqing didn’t speak anymore.
The sound of the rain outside the window was drizzling. Inside the room, there was only the low hum of the air conditioner. Lin Yanqing’s breathing and the hum of the air conditioner mingled together, getting heavier and heavier.
She wanted to send the person away.
The current her felt as if her chest had been cut open, and a corner of her innermost feelings had been revealed, only to be dismissed by the other person’s casual sentence.
Lin Yanqing: “You should go…”
Wen Yu suddenly spoke, “I’m just going back to get a blanket. What are you thinking?”
Lin Yanqing was stunned.
“I’m not sharing a blanket with you,” Wen Yu said. “What if I take the blanket in the middle of the night and you burn up?”
After Wen Yu said that, she left the bedroom and soon came back with a thin blanket.
“Move over a little,” Wen Yu said.
Lin Yanqing was still a little dazed and obediently moved.
Wen Yu spread out the blanket and burrowed into it like a fish, only revealing the top of her head.
She said, “I’m telling you, if you dare to infect me, you have to compensate me for my medical expenses and emotional distress. Otherwise, I’ll sue you until you’re bankrupt.”
“…Okay,” Lin Yanqing came back to her senses and looked at Wen Yu with a soft gaze. “I’ll compensate you for everything.”
A very light chuckle, almost swallowed by the sound of the rain, escaped in the two people’s gradually synchronized breathing.
Lin Yanqing reached out and adjusted the wall lamp to its lowest brightness. She lay down next to Wen Yu and reached out from under the blanket to pull the Wen Yu, who was wrapped like a sushi roll, and her blanket into her arms.
Wen Yu didn’t make a sound, which meant she didn’t refuse.
Lin Yanqing let out a satisfied sigh.
Perhaps it was the medicine taking effect, or perhaps it was the subtle sense of security that came from having another person next to her. Lin Yanqing’s breathing quickly became long and steady.
After Lin Yanqing fell asleep, Wen Yu poked her head out and touched Lin Yanqing’s forehead with the back of her hand. Seeing that the medicine was working, she also fell asleep soundly.
When she woke up the next day, it was still raining, and the sky was overcast.
Wen Yu felt something heavy on her body. She looked down and saw that one of Lin Yanqing’s legs had crossed over at some point and was resting on her thigh.
Her own blanket was kicked to the side of the bed, pitifully huddled together, and she was lying in Lin Yanqing’s blanket. Lin Yanqing’s body temperature had dropped a little, but it was still slightly high. The air conditioner was off, and Wen Yu was sweating from the stuffiness.
She woke up to an unpleasant scene.
Wen Yu was disgusted and wanted to kick the leg away, but Lin Yanqing’s foot suddenly hooked Wen Yu’s shin, stopping Wen Yu’s movement.
Lin Yanqing’s breathing was steady, and there was no sign of her waking up.
This person rarely gets a good night’s sleep.
Forget it. Why argue with a sick person? Wen Yu thought.
She carefully moved herself out and got out of bed to wash up.
By the time Wen Yu was done, the butler had also brought a light breakfast and new fever medicine.
Lin Yanqing had woken up at some point and was leaning against the headboard. Her face was still pale, and her eyes were listless and lacked energy.
She just lifted her eyelids when she saw the butler bringing in the tray.
“How are you feeling?” Wen Yu ate with Lin Yanqing in the bedroom.
“I’m okay. I’m not going to die,” Lin Yanqing’s voice was still hoarse and had a heavy nasal tone. She tried to sit up a little straighter, but it seemed to be a struggle. Her whole body felt uncomfortable, and she was so feverish that her back and arms ached.
Wen Yu looked at her half-dead state, and the thought of filming “Summer Cooling Solution” completely vanished. What’s the point of cooling off? This terrible weather and this sick person in front of me are the best cooling solutions.
My heart has gone cold. A sick person really affects the vacation mood.
Wen Yu’s eyes darted around. She took out her phone. “If I can’t film a cooling-off video, a vlog about taking care of a sick person will work. I’ve never really taken care of anyone before.”
She waved her phone’s camera at Lin Yanqing. “Can you be a good sport and cooperate?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t care. She just said, “Don’t film me looking too bad.”
“With your current state, it’s hard to make you look good,” Wen Yu retorted, but she still adjusted the angle to make sure the camera only filmed the lower half of Lin Yanqing’s body, which was covered by the blanket, and her long, slender hands that were outside the blanket.
“My roommate is sick,” Wen Yu said. “My vacation to cool off is not going to happen, so I’m filming something else. I’ll show you how to take care of a sick person.”
Wen Yu brought Lin Yanqing water and medicine.
Lin Yanqing reached out and touched the side of the cup. She exposed her. “It’s hot.”
Wen Yu: “?”
Wen Yu picked it up and took a sip, smacking her lips. “Is your tongue made of ice?”
Lin Yanqing: “Yes.”
Wen Yu turned off her phone with a snap and pointed at Lin Yanqing. “You better cooperate.”
Lin Yanqing’s mouth curled into a sly smile. She hummed in agreement.
Wen Yu continued filming.
This time, Lin Yanqing was very cooperative. She just complained that the medicine was bitter and didn’t want the sugar that the butler brought. She insisted that Wen Yu peel some fruit for her.
Wen Yu shoved an apple, which was almost all core, into Lin Yanqing’s mouth.
After Lin Yanqing finished gnawing on the apple core, the doctor came to take her temperature. The digital thermometer showed 37.2°C, a low-grade fever.
The doctor asked if she needed an IV drip to recover faster. Lin Yanqing said, “Just keep taking the medicine.”
I get to have Wen Yu take care of me more. This is a rare treat. I have to take advantage of it.
Lin Yanqing: “You don’t have to come later. Just leave the medicine and the thermometer.”
The doctor wanted to leave the thermometer gun, but Lin Yanqing didn’t want it. Instead, she asked for the most basic mercury thermometer.
The doctor explained, “This is not as accurate as the thermometer gun, and it’s more troublesome.”
Lin Yanqing: “It’s fine. You can go.”
The more troublesome, the better. If it wasn’t troublesome, she wouldn’t even want me here.
Wen Yu went to talk to the butler. When she came back, she found that the doctor had left. She asked Lin Yanqing, “What’s your temperature now?”
Lin Yanqing told her the truth and said, “Let’s take it again at noon. You can do it for me.”
“Where’s the doctor?”
“Taking a temperature isn’t troublesome. We’ll find a doctor if the fever comes back.”
Wen Yu accepted this explanation. But at noon, she looked at the mercury thermometer and was a little confused. “Where did you find this ancient thing?”
“The doctor left it,” Lin Yanqing said without batting an eye.
“How do you use this? Do I put it under your armpit? Or in your mouth?” Wen Yu gestured at Lin Yanqing.
Lin Yanqing took the thermometer and put it under her armpit. “You can check the temperature for me later.”
Wen Yu: “Okay.”
After agreeing, she remembered that she didn’t know how to read this type of thermometer. She asked again, “Do you know how to read it?”
Lin Yanqing: “Yes. I’ll teach you.”
Wen Yu nodded and casually chatted, “How do you know?”
“Did you think everyone was as useless as you?”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu: “I hope your fever comes back.”
“Don’t jinx me,” Lin Yanqing smiled.
Five minutes passed. Lin Yanqing took out the thermometer and handed it to Wen Yu. “Look at the mercury line.”
Wen Yu turned it around. “I see it.”
“What number is it at?”
Wen Yu wanted to look carefully, but with just a change in angle, she couldn’t see the line anymore. So she turned her back to Lin Yanqing and started holding it up to the light from the window.
“This is so hard on the eyes,” Wen Yu complained. “Is this thing even accurate?”
Suddenly, a hand reached out from the side and cupped her hand.
Lin Yanqing rested her chin on Wen Yu’s shoulder. Their eyes were level. Her left hand gently moved Wen Yu’s hand. “Look closely.”
Wen Yu couldn’t be bothered with the scorching heat by her ear and forced herself to focus on the thin thermometer in front of her.
The long, thin mercury line turned into a light-refracting silver sheet.
“37°C,” Wen Yu said.
“Correct,” Lin Yanqing backed away. “Your learning ability is very good, Student Wen.”
Wen Yu touched her hot earlobe. She smiled and said proudly, “Of course!”
“You still have a bit of a fever. You should keep taking your medicine. What do you want to eat for dinner? I’ll have the butler make it.”
Lin Yanqing said anything was fine.
In the afternoon, she had to deal with some work, and Wen Yu had nothing to film. She went out for a walk and filmed some content. Her pants were soaked.
She came back, took a shower, and then sat on the single sofa next to Lin Yanqing and started editing her video.
After a day of working on it, although the footage was a mess, the video length was barely enough, and she could edit something out of it.
Wen Yu’s fingers flew, and she cut out all the clips where the two of them were being passive-aggressive toward each other. When the remaining clips were put together, their relationship actually seemed quite good.
Lin Yanqing’s hand on the blanket, her blurry profile, and her occasional “Wen Wen”—these clips were left in, adding a lot of life to the video.
After the video was edited and with a cheerful background music and the title “Unexpected Twist on a Beach Vacation! Taking Care of My Sick Roommate Vlog!”, Wen Yu directly clicked on publish.
Before long, her phone started vibrating. In addition to the likes and followers, there were also a lot of comments, most of them discussing the second person who appeared in Wen Yu’s video.
Sang Yun Duo called her immediately. “Seriously! Wen Wen, your vlog style has changed so much! You even added another person? Who is that ‘sick sister’? Her voice sounds so familiar. Is she the same roommate who told you to drink cola during the last livestream?”
Wen Yu was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, scrolling through the comments.
“That sister’s voice is so regal! She seems so badass even though she’s sick!”
“Is she the roommate from the livestream? Are you really just roommates?!”
“Yes, it’s her,” Wen Yu said to Sang Yun Duo.
She chose a comment to reply to: “She’s a friend”
A thread of replies appeared below:
“A friend? Is that what friends are like? Wen Wen, you’re not telling the truth!”
“Wen Wen’s friends are all so high-quality! That sister’s hands are so pretty!”
Sang Yun Duo also said, “What’s your relationship with her? Are you really just roommates?”
The way she called her “Wen Wen” was so sticky, like a partner.
But Wen Yu herself didn’t think so. She casually replied to Sang Yun Duo and typed in the comments section, “Yeah, she’s just a friend. She also came to the island, but she got sick first, so I have to take care of her.”
Before she could finish her sentence, a low chuckle came from the sofa next to her.
Her tone was still weak from her illness, but it was captivating.
Wen Yu turned her head and saw that Lin Yanqing had put down her laptop at some point and was looking at her sideways.
Lin Yanqing was covered with a thin blanket. Her face was slightly pale, and her lips were very light, but her eyes had regained their clarity after the fever went down. They were now locked on Wen Yu’s face with an unknown meaning.
“Friend?” Lin Yanqing spoke slowly, her voice still a little hoarse. “Is that how you talk about me to people outside?”
Wen Yu: “?”
What’s wrong with her? It’s normal to hide my marital status from netizens. And Lin Yanqing’s identity isn’t suitable to be shown in public.
Lin Yanqing: “I’m so sad. You don’t know me after getting out of bed. You’re a heartbreaker.”
Her voice was not quiet. Sang Yun Duo also heard it. She let out a confused “ah” and then, as if she had just found out a huge piece of gossip, she quickly tried to distance herself. “Ahaha, a friend? Right, my grandma is getting out of school. I’m going to pick her up. Talk to you later!”
With that, she immediately hung up.
Wen Yu: “…”
What a mess.
Especially Lin Yanqing. What nonsense is she saying?
Her teasing attitude was too obvious. Wen Yu couldn’t even be bothered to get angry.
But she still had to do something so that this woman’s arrogance wouldn’t get out of hand.
So Wen Yu grabbed a pillow from beside her and threw it at Lin Yanqing. “What are you sick with now?”
The pillow hit Lin Yanqing’s body. It was soft and had no force. She put the pillow aside and raised an eyebrow. “I’m already sick.”
“I think you’re mentally sick too,” Wen Yu clicked her tongue. “You’re acting like a child to netizens now.”
Wen Yu obviously didn’t realize who Lin Yanqing was being childish to and didn’t think it was a big deal, so she didn’t explain to Sang Yun Duo.
“Okay, the video is posted. I’m going back. I’ll go home in a few days. It’s too humid on this island,” Wen Yu said.
Lin Yanqing looked at Wen Yu, who was clueless about everything—except for her lack of emotional intelligence. She was so depressed that she didn’t want to talk anymore. She opened her laptop, planning to use work to calm her unsettled heart.
But before she could even read a few lines, her laptop was pressed down with a slap.
Wen Yu took the laptop. “Get some rest. Don’t make me a young widow.”
Lin Yanqing was a little dazed. Her brain was overheating and overloaded. For a moment, she didn’t grab the laptop back. She only reacted after Wen Yu had left.
She raised her hand and pressed down on the corner of her lips that had involuntarily turned up.
This is a good sign. It’s rare for this young miss to care about me.
Thinking this way, Lin Yanqing felt a little pathetic.
And Wen Yu had been quite close to her lately… She analyzed the possible reasons in her mind, but to no avail. She could only attribute it to them being married for too long and their feelings gradually falling into place.
But it was not convenient for Wen Yu to have her laptop, so she still had to get it back.
Lin Yanqing got up and walked to Wen Yu’s door.
The door was unlocked. Lin Yanqing pressed the doorknob. As soon as she entered, she heard Wen Yu on the phone with someone. “Divorce! I have to get a divorce!”
Lin Yanqing: “…?”
What a great emotional connection.
