How About A Divorce? - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Private Album
Wen Yu was woken up by the excessively high temperature behind her and the arm around her waist that was digging into her.
The pillow, apparently, couldn’t stop the dog. Lin Yanqing had wriggled over in the middle of the night again.
“Lin Yanqing,” her voice was hoarse from just waking up and had a clear sense of impatience. She nudged her back with her elbow. “Let go. It’s hot.”
The person behind her mumbled something and subconsciously buried her burning forehead in Wen Yu’s neck, rubbing against it. “…Don’t move.”
Even her breath was scorching hot.
Wen Yu realized something and quickly turned over. She pressed the back of her hand against Lin Yanqing’s forehead—and sure enough, the temperature that had gone down had returned, and it was even higher.
Lin Yanqing’s eyes were closed, her cheeks were an unnatural red, her lips were chapped and peeling, and her breathing was heavy.
Wen Yu’s anger, which she had been holding in all night, was silently extinguished by this pitiful sight. All that was left was a feeling of inexplicable resentment that weighed heavily in her chest.
What is this… I can’t hit her, and I can’t scold her.
Wen Yu wanted to get up, but Lin Yanqing held on to her shirt. “…Wen Wen, I don’t feel well.”
“If you don’t feel well, then let go. I’ll go call the doctor,” Wen Yu said.
Lin Yanqing struggled to open her eyelids. Her misty eyes fell on Wen Yu. “Then come back quickly.”
Her voice was extremely hoarse.
“I know,” Wen Yu got out of bed. “You talk too much. Do you really want to burn to death to make it easier for me to inherit your inheritance?”
Wen Yu pried Lin Yanqing’s hand open, but she was still stubborn with her words. “Don’t even think about inheriting my inheritance. I’m not going to die.”
Wen Yu was quite satisfied with this answer, so she generously said, “I don’t care about your peanuts.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
Your peanuts are really precious.
The butler and the doctor arrived quickly. They took her temperature, gave her medicine, and used physical methods to cool her down. The doctor looked at the 39°C on the thermometer and frowned. “The fever is recurring because of the rain. And she’s been overworked before. It won’t get better for at least ten days to half a month.”
After they left, Wen Yu spoke. “I told you that you were asking for it.”
The thought of last night’s events made Wen Yu angry again. She was about to grab her and rehash everything, but she heard Lin Yanqing say softly, “It won’t happen again.”
A whole bunch of words were blocked in her throat by this good attitude of admitting her mistake. Wen Yu was uncharacteristically speechless.
Taking advantage of her immunity from being sick, Lin Yanqing climbed up the pole. “Don’t be angry anymore.”
As she spoke, she also took Wen Yu’s hand and put it on her face. “My head is so dizzy.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Who taught her all this nonsense?
“Don’t be angry, okay?” Lin Yanqing kissed Wen Yu’s palm.
After this smooth series of moves, Wen Yu looked as if she had seen a ghost and asked, “Did the fever open up your meridians?”
Wen Yu was actually a sucker for this kind of thing. A big one.
Lin Yanqing chuckled.
That night when she first arrived on the island, when Lin Yanqing was acting cute and teasing Wen Yu, she discovered that the latter was very receptive to it. She made a mental note of it and didn’t expect it to come in handy so soon.
The effect was surprisingly good.
“Just tell me if you’re still angry or not.”
Wen Yu: “Get lost.”
That’s what she said, but she didn’t let go of her hand. Lin Yanqing knew that she had passed this hurdle. She rubbed Wen Yu’s fingertips and went a step further. “I want to eat the congee that Wen Wen made.”
Wen Yu: “?”
Wen Yu immediately moved away from Lin Yanqing. Her expression said, go as far away as possible.
“Do I look like a person who cooks?” Wen Yu was too lazy to scold her. “Do you think you’re an emperor?”
Lin Yanqing smoothed her down. “You are the emperor. I beg Your Majesty to cook me a bowl of congee.”
Oh no, Wen Yu thought. This bad woman, Lin Yanqing, is getting even worse.
She lowered the corners of her mouth. “Granted.”
When Wen Yu entered the room with the clay pot, she felt that she must have lost her mind. She actually honestly went to ask the butler and learned how to cook a pot of congee.
“Lin Yanqing…” she called out. When she looked up, she instinctively fell silent.
Lin Yanqing was asleep. She was in a daze from the fever. Her head was tilted to the side. When she heard the noise, she slowly opened her eyes. “Hm.”
“Go back to sleep.”
“I’ve slept enough,” Lin Yanqing slowly sat up and got out of bed to sit at the small table. “I’m hungry.”
Wen Yu placed the clay pot on the table.
Lin Yanqing lifted the lid. The little bit of sleepiness she had left instantly flew away. For a moment, she didn’t dare to move.
What is this black, sticky substance?
“Is this…” For the first time, she wondered if Wen Yu really wanted to kill her. “…Are you trying to kill me to silence me?”
Wen Yu had been a little hopeful for Lin Yanqing’s evaluation. When she heard that, she sneered. “Eat it or don’t.”
She slammed the lid of the clay pot shut with a clank.
Lin Yanqing grabbed Wen Yu’s wrist. “Of course I’ll eat it.”
“Hmph.”
The black, sticky substance appeared in front of Lin Yanqing again.
“You’re going to poison me,” Lin Yanqing obediently scooped up a spoonful. As if she was going to die, she took a bite. Her brows were tightly furrowed. It took her a long time to swallow it. “Hm, it’s not going to kill me.”
Wen Yu: “…”
It’s better if it kills you.
The taste was okay, just a little burnt. The color should be from the black rice she added.
After Lin Yanqing ate half of it, she broke into a sweat. After she finished eating, Wen Yu sent her back to bed.
Her laptop was also confiscated. She couldn’t handle complicated work, so she could only give instructions to Zhang Cheng through her phone.
When this person lay down on the bed, it was as if she was about to die.
Getting rid of the illness was like pulling silk from a cocoon. Lin Yanqing was really sick for more than half a month. During this time, the high fever kept coming back, and the cough was a constant companion. It made Wen Yu’s heart skip a beat. She always felt that Lin Yanqing would cough up her spine in the next second.
It was as if she was getting all the sickness she owed from these past few years at once.
When she finally recovered, Shi Li also sent Wen Yu a message from the crew.
The location was set at a short drama production base in Xi’an.
The night before they went back, Wen Yu didn’t bother the sick person with packing. She was self-reliant. As she scanned the room for anything else that needed to be packed, she saw Lin Yanqing’s phone.
The screen was too bright. Messages were popping up one after another. The content wasn’t displayed. The next second, a call came in from Zhang Cheng.
Wen Yu called out. “Lin Yanqing, your phone!”
Lin Yanqing was downstairs. She probably didn’t hear her and didn’t respond.
Wen Yu took the phone downstairs. Halfway down, she saw Lin Yanqing drinking water, so she said, “It’s Zhang Cheng’s call.”
“Help me answer it,” Lin Yanqing said.
Wen Yu answered and put it on speaker.
Zhang Cheng’s voice came through. “CEO Lin, Chairman Wang is only available from 2 to 3 p.m. this afternoon. I’ve cleared your schedule for that time. It’s been synced to your calendar. Please take a look.”
Wen Yu looked at Lin Yanqing and said softly, “Oh, the workaholic is back.”
Zhang Cheng heard it and greeted her. “Good evening, CEO Wen.”
Wen Yu greeted him back. “Good evening to you too.”
Lin Yanqing answered through Wen Yu’s phone. “Okay. Send the other information to my phone. I’ll check it right away.”
After the call was hung up, the phone automatically returned to the lock screen. Wen Yu was used to holding her own phone. She subconsciously held the side where the fingerprint scanner was. The next second, the phone was unlocked.
The photo album interface appeared in front of them, which meant that Lin Yanqing was looking at her photos before the screen went off.
Wen Yu didn’t have a habit of looking at other people’s privacy. She was about to turn off the screen, but she saw a suspicious photo album collection named “Cute” with a heart next to it.
At first glance, the cover seemed to be a woman.
Wen Yu: “?”
What is this?
She was about to take a closer look, but Lin Yanqing’s hand already came over and covered the screen.
Lin Yanqing: “Mind your own business, Young Miss Wen.”
She tried to take the phone, but she couldn’t.
Wen Yu held on tightly. “Who is that woman?”
Lin Yanqing pretended to be stupid. “What woman?”
“That photo album.”
“Oh,” Since the topic was already brought up, Lin Yanqing knew that pretending to be stupid would only anger her more, so she chose to lie. “That’s me.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu’s face was full of disgust. “You named your own photo ‘Cute’?”
What part of this person is cute? And she even added a corny red heart.
She must be lying. If this isn’t Lin Yanqing’s mistress, Wen Yu will perform a handstand and wash her hair right here.
“Yes,” Lin Yanqing said without her face turning red or her heart skipping a beat. She just wanted to move past this topic. “Did you finish packing your things? I’ll go check for you.”
Wen Yu sneered. “I’m waiting for ‘Cute’ to pack for me.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
This person’s lying attitude was truly infuriating. Wen Yu was holding in her anger. The evidence was right in front of her. She might as well look at it. After she saw it, she would go back and get a divorce.
Wen Yu forcefully pried Lin Yanqing’s hand away. This time, Lin Yanqing unexpectedly didn’t block her. Wen Yu saw the cover of the album and was confused. “Who is this?”
It was a photo of a woman that was so blurry that you could only tell it was a woman by her long hair.
Lin Yanqing blinked. “I told you it’s me.”
“Bullshit.” Wen Yu would recognize Lin Yanqing even if she turned to dust. This person was obviously not her, but she looked very familiar. Wen Yu couldn’t remember where she had seen her. She tried to click on it, but she found that the album was locked.
“The password,” she said.
No wonder Lin Yanqing didn’t stop me. She knew I couldn’t open the album.
“Guess.”
“?”
Wen Yu wanted to curse, but when she met Lin Yanqing’s smiling eyes, some of her anger dissipated. It felt less like a confrontation about a mistress and more like flirting.
She was a little suspicious that it might not be a mistress, but she also felt that a person worth Lin Yanqing encrypting and saving must not be simple.
“Hurry up and tell me the password.”
Lin Yanqing: “The password is on your face.”
Wen Yu: “?”
What kind of nonsense is she talking?
The two of them were obviously not on the same wavelength. Lin Yanqing didn’t intend to pull Wen Yu’s brain waves back. She simply took the phone and was about to unlock the album for her. She had been worried that Wen Yu would guess her feelings after seeing it. Now, it seemed she had overestimated Wen Yu’s intelligence. This person couldn’t even recognize a person. What could she expect from her?
Gene editing couldn’t produce such a pure-blooded blockhead. The vector that carried the genetic information probably missed the love part.
If Wen Yu could figure out the key to this, Lin Yanqing would immediately go to the Western Paradise to burn incense and thank the biological miracle.
She typed in the first two digits, then suddenly stopped.
Wait. When did Wen Yu start checking my phone? Why? Because she cares?
Lin Yanqing suddenly said, “I don’t want to show you anymore.”
Wen Yu: “?”
“Then why did you pretend to type in the password? Are you putting on a show?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t deny it. “Tell me, why do you want to see this album? I never check your phone.”
“Is that the same thing?”
“How is it not the same?”
Wen Yu was speechless.
Lin Yanqing leaned in. “Tell me.”
Her tone was a mix of coercion and testing, wanting to dig out the answer she wanted to hear from Wen Yu’s mouth. But Wen Yu just felt that this person’s attitude was arrogant. She was the one who was hiding something, but she was being aggressive.
What kind of attitude is that?!
“Fine,” Wen Yu nodded. “I won’t look.”
Lin Yanqing: “?”
This was not what she had imagined.
“Let’s just get a divorce,” Wen Yu turned and walked upstairs, not sounding like she was joking.
Lin Yanqing: “!”
Like an employee who threatens to quit to get a raise or promotion, Wen Yu said “divorce” just to force Lin Yanqing to be more reasonable and not get on her nerves.
But while that was her thinking, her emotions were a different matter.
Wen Yu was annoyed and felt wronged. But before she could fully process this emotion, Lin Yanqing had already picked her up and carried her back.
The two of them fell onto the sofa together.
Lin Yanqing’s gaze lingered on Wen Yu’s pouted lips for a moment. She didn’t understand why this person was so wronged just because she wasn’t letting her see an album.
Her lips could practically hang an oil pot.
Lin Yanqing smiled. “Why are you pouting so much? Are you asking for a kiss?”
Wen Yu pushed Lin Yanqing away. “Kiss your head.”
“Why did you suddenly get so angry?” Lin Yanqing asked.
Wen Yu didn’t say anything.
Lin Yanqing had no idea what to do with this Wen Yu. She didn’t understand why the latter was being so stubborn, but she knew how to calm her down. “Look, look, I’ll let you see.”
Lin Yanqing took her phone. Before she typed the last digit, she stared at Wen Yu. “Before you look, can you promise me one thing?”
“What?”
“Don’t be angry.”
Wen Yu: “?”
How can someone ask their wife not to be angry when she’s about to look at a mistress’s photo?
After Lin Yanqing said that, she didn’t wait for Wen Yu to reply. It seemed she didn’t even expect Wen Yu to agree. She unlocked the phone and handed it to Wen Yu.
At the same time, she moved three meters away.
There were only three photos inside. Besides the first one being very blurry, the other two were very clear—they were photos of Wen Yu sleeping in class in high school with drool on her face. Her face was distorted from being pressed against the desk.
At this moment, Wen Yu also realized what the first blurry photo was. At that time, she had failed an exam and was banging her head on the desk. Her hair was a mess like a female ghost. She heard Lin Yanqing call her, and when she turned her head, she was caught off guard and a photo was taken. She remembered forcing Lin Yanqing to delete it. She didn’t expect this jerk to have a backup.
Wen Yu looked at it for ten seconds. She calmly picked up a fruit knife from the coffee table.
Lin Yanqing decisively went upstairs and locked the door behind her.
“Lin! Yan! Qing—!”
From the moment they got on the plane until they landed, Wen Yu didn’t say another word to Lin Yanqing. Even when Lin Yanqing tried to coax her, it was no use.
Is she really that angry? Lin Yanqing didn’t understand.
But Wen Yu knew she wasn’t angry. Maybe she was a little at first, but then it was just amusing. The misunderstanding would have passed with a bit of playful banter. But there was another emotion in her heart that she couldn’t figure out—when she saw that the photos were of herself, the feeling of her heart skipping a beat was greater than the anger.
Wen Yu pressed her hand to her chest.
“Cute,” with a heart next to it, was referring to her.
