How About A Divorce? - Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Bad Woman
Wen Yu flew directly from the port city to Xi’an. Lin Yanqing made a special trip to see her off.
Shi Li personally came to pick her up. When she saw Lin Yanqing, she teased, “Did you come to scout for business secrets?”
Lin Yanqing imitated Wen Yu’s tone. “I don’t care about your peanuts.”
Shi Li smiled and smoothly replied, “Then CEO Lin can give more dates to Qianchuan Films.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t react yet, but Wen Yu raised an eyebrow at her. The two of them made eye contact. Lin Yanqing read the meaning of “So you can say that back?” in her eyes and was amused.
“My dates are precious,” Lin Yanqing said.
Now it was Wen Yu’s turn to smile.
Although Shi Li didn’t understand what these two were doing, she never wanted to kill the mood of her clients, so she played along. The group chatted and laughed all the way to the filming location.
After dropping Wen Yu off at the hotel, Lin Yanqing made a point to check the room next door. It was empty. Lin Yanqing was slightly relieved. Seeing that she was short on time, she said goodbye to Shi Li and left.
As soon as she left, Shi Li asked, “What was Lin Yanqing here for?”
Wen Yu: “Who knows?”
Shi Li tried to guide her. “She seemed worried that I would arrange for Yuan Yiyang to stay next to you?”
Wen Yu was on high alert. “Is Lin Yanqing worried that I’ll suppress Yuan Yiyang?”
Shi Li: “…”
Shi Li gave up trying to guide her. She set an alarm and left.
After Wen Yu finished tidying up, she saw Yuan Yiyang and a group of people walk past her door and enter the room next door.
So it wasn’t that she wasn’t arranged, it was that she had just arrived, and Lin Yanqing hadn’t had time to see her.
There were too many people next door, and Wen Yu couldn’t hear what they were saying. Wen Yu wanted to close her door. As she walked over, she happened to run into a few people coming out of Yuan Yiyang’s room. When they saw Wen Yu, they just nodded and said hello, their footsteps hurried.
Everyone’s face was clouded over. Wen Yu had seen the same cloud on the faces of people in Lin Yanqing’s company. The weather forecast said it was called “workaholic smell,” the kind that is highly flammable, explosive, and yet cowardly.
Yuan Yiyang also came out quickly, leaving two assistants in the room to tidy up.
When she saw Wen Yu, she greeted her generously. “CEO Wen, for the opening ceremony tomorrow, do you want to light incense alone?”
Before Wen Yu came, Shi Li had already told her about this. Wen Yu refused. Although she was the investor, she had asked Lin Yanqing to find a gold-medal producer to supervise things. She just wanted to be behind the scenes and not get too involved.
“No need. I’ll just stand behind and be with you guys.”
“Do you want to go for a walk downstairs?” Yuan Yiyang invited. “The set design this time was pretty expensive.”
Since she had nothing to do, Wen Yu followed Yuan Yiyang downstairs.
When Shi Li saw them, she called them over for a meal with some of the core members of the crew. At the dinner, Wen Yu’s identity was made clear. Everyone toasted Wen Yu with a cup of pulpy orange juice, and some toasted her with coconut juice.
The atmosphere was very harmonious. After the group finished eating, they went their separate ways to get back to work.
Yuan Yiyang was originally going to show Wen Yu around, but she was called away by the assistant director. Wen Yu walked around by herself.
The set was mainly indoors—a modern background with a prison theme. The air conditioning was very strong. Combined with the heart-chilling prison reform scenes, it was cold both physically and mentally.
Wen Yu stopped at the edge of the crowd. Her eyes scanned the scene.
The staff were busy with their own tasks. The equipment was set up. Some were testing the sound, some were testing the light. There were also some who were flustered, and some who were waiting for instructions.
Wen Yu was wearing a mask. Before she had even taken two steps, a reflector was handed to her. The woman was dark-skinned and had high cheekbones. She looked very serious. “Are you a new crew member? Help me test the light.”
The woman walked into the set. Wen Yu was very curious. She followed her with the reflector and was arranged to stand next to a small actor, holding it up.
The photographer checked the camera and gave his spot to the woman. The woman then had Wen Yu try a few other positions. Finally, she nodded and let her go.
The small actor started bowing to the people around him and said, “Thank you for your hard work! Thank you for your hard work!”
Everyone smiled and said it was nothing.
Wen Yu completed her task and was wondering where to put the reflector when the small actor walked over and took it from her. “Teacher, you can give it to me.”
The reflector was twisted around in the small actor’s hands. It was folded into a small board, put into a bag, and placed to the side.
Wen Yu: “Thank you.”
Short drama actors really didn’t have much of a ego.
The small actor laughed. “I used to be a gopher in a crew. I’m familiar with these kinds of jobs.”
“Then how did you become an actor now?” Wen Yu asked out of curiosity.
“I passed the audition,” the small actor said. “Short dramas have a low threshold to begin with. I also ran for a few small roles and slowly built up my experience. This time, I was lucky enough to join Qianchuan’s crew. Please take care of me, Teacher. Let’s work hard together and make this a huge hit.”
The small actor reached out her hand. Wen Yu didn’t explain and shook her hand, smiling as she said, “I wish you a huge hit.”
“You look a lot like a friend of mine,” the small actor suddenly said.
“Huh?” She was still wearing a mask. How could she tell if they looked alike?
“Just a little, haha. Seeing you feels very familiar.” This small actor was obviously very friendly and didn’t feel that her topic was awkward. She smiled and said, “Your voices are also a little similar.”
“What if I am her?” Wen Yu went along with her words.
“Probably not. She’s on vacation,” the small actor said.
Her phone vibrated. She looked at it and said to Wen Yu, “I have to go. See you tomorrow, Teacher!”
“See you tomorrow,” Wen Yu waved.
After they separated, Wen Yu walked around casually again. She didn’t know what she was busy with, but she was busy nonetheless. By the time she got back to the hotel and took a shower, Wen Yu was still in an excited state.
Lin Yanqing video-called her. When she saw Wen Yu smiling, she asked, “Why are you so happy?”
“Working occasionally makes me look like I’m not a complete slacker,” Wen Yu said. “Anyway, when things get really busy, it’s not my problem.”
It was also interesting to watch other people be busy from a distance. Wen Yu had never been tired and had no intention of tiring herself out. She was comfortable being the hands-off boss.
“I’m going to take a shower,” Wen Yu said, and she started to take off her top. She put Lin Yanqing on the table and left.
When she came out after her shower, Wen Yu found that Lin Yanqing hadn’t hung up yet. “Why didn’t you hang up?”
“I was waiting for you to come out. I have something to talk to you about.”
“What is it?”
Wen Yu was drying her hair and holding up the phone.
“I’ll be going to Xi’an for a business trip in a few days to talk about a collaboration with Shi Li. When that happens, you can come over with Shi Li.”
“Is that all?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, I know. I’m hanging up now.” Wen Yu was about to hang up, but Lin Yanqing suddenly spoke. “Why are you still wearing a bra after taking a shower?”
“Hm?” Wen Yu looked down and found that her bra strap had slipped out from under her pajama shirt.
She pulled her pajamas together to cover the strap. “Oh, I’m going to find Yuan Yiyang later.”
Lin Yanqing: “?”
“Shi Li is also there. I’m going to have a late-night snack.”
Lin Yanqing: “A late-night snack?”
“Don’t tell my mom. I’ll eat a little. Okay, I’m hanging up now.” Without waiting for Lin Yanqing to speak, Wen Yu hung up.
She strolled to the room next door in her pajamas. Inside, Shi Li and Yuan Yiyang had already set up food. The two of them had saved a spot for Wen Yu.
Shi Li intended to get closer to Wen Yu. Yuan Yiyang did too. Even if they couldn’t become friends in the end, they could at least increase their connection, which would be useful later.
Wen Yu naturally knew what they were thinking, but she didn’t dislike it. She liked Shi Li’s way of doing things, and she didn’t have much ill will toward Yuan Yiyang either. She had asked someone to check Lin Yanqing’s bank statements. There were no abnormalities. At the very least, when it came to money, Lin Yanqing and Yuan Yiyang were clean.
The late-night snack was very pleasant. The age gap between them was not big, and they could all chat easily, mostly about the industry.
During this time, Wen Yu’s phone rang. When she saw that it was Lin Yanqing, she didn’t answer and just messaged her back, “If it’s important, just type it out.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t call again.
When the late-night snack ended, it was almost 2 a.m. There was an opening ceremony in the morning, so they didn’t chat much more. Wen Yu’s initial excitement had faded a lot, and she was ready to go back to sleep.
“I’m going back too,” Shi Li said.
Wen Yu walked to the door. As she pushed it open, she smiled and said to the people inside, “See you tomorrow.”
Shi Li followed her with her jacket.
Both of their steps stopped at the same time.
—Standing at Wen Yu’s door was a woman. When the woman heard the noise, she looked up, and her gaze fell directly on Wen Yu.
That shoulder strap still wasn’t tucked in. It had slipped out of her pajamas and was tangled in her hair.
Shi Li, with her excellent foresight, took half a step back, leaving the space for the two of them to have a staring contest.
Lin Yanqing also saw that Shi Li looked like she was about to go back, and she had a guess in her heart, but she still asked, “Whose room were you in?”
From inside the room behind her, Yuan Yiyang’s voice rang out at the right moment. “Did anyone leave their phone behind?”
Wen Yu blinked. She didn’t understand why Lin Yanqing was here, but she didn’t react too much. She felt her pocket, turned to look at Yuan Yiyang, and said, “It’s probably mine.”
“There’s a call.”
“Who is it?” Wen Yu subconsciously asked.
“Bad woman,” Yuan Yiyang said. “That’s the note.”
Wen Yu was stunned. Only then did she notice that Lin Yanqing was wearing a Bluetooth headset. Shi Li slapped her forehead. It was the first time she realized how clueless Yuan Yiyang was.
Is that kind of special note something you can read out loud?! She must have eaten her brain for the late-night snack.
“Bad woman?” Lin Yanqing raised an eyebrow, looked down, and hung up the phone. “Wen Yu, explain.”
Yuan Yiyang had already come to the door with the phone. When she saw Lin Yanqing, she was stunned. “CEO Lin, why are you here?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t answer. Wen Yu took her phone, walked to Lin Yanqing’s side, and opened the door. She didn’t address the previous topic and followed up on Yuan Yiyang’s words. “Yeah, why did you come over?”
As she spoke, the door opened. Shi Li saw this, raised her hands, and forcefully interrupted the night-time conversation. “Alright, Xiao Yuan, you should go back to sleep. Otherwise, you’ll be puffy tomorrow.”
She pushed Yuan Yiyang into the room with one hand and closed the door with the other. Her movements were smooth and fluid.
“I’m going back now. We’ll be busy tomorrow,” Shi Li said again. In three seconds, she was gone.
Wen Yu: “?”
She’s clearing the scene.
“Get inside first.” Lin Yanqing pushed Wen Yu’s shoulder and guided her into the room.
“You just left this morning. What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” Wen Yu didn’t understand.
“I came to see what good stuff you were eating that you couldn’t even answer your phone.”
“So you flew all the way here?” Wen Yu said. “You must really be craving it.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
“Wen Yu,” Lin Yanqing clicked her tongue.
“I’m here,” Wen Yu sat down on the sofa.
“Don’t have too much contact with Yuan Yiyang.”
It was that sentence again.
Wen Yu was impatient. “Why?”
This time, Lin Yanqing gave a reason. “You two aren’t a good match.”
What does being a good match have to do with making friends? This reason was inexplicable to Wen Yu. It could only serve as proof that Lin Yanqing was protecting Yuan Yiyang. So Wen Yu was unhappy. “You’re too nosy.”
“A bad woman is nosy,” Lin Yanqing said with a blank expression. “Otherwise, why would she be called a bad woman?”
Wen Yu: “…Heh.”
I’m changing the note to “b1tch” now.
Lin Yanqing sat down next to Wen Yu, deciding to be open and honest with her in another way. “I’ll be direct, Wen Wen.”
Wen Yu heard her tone and knew that what Lin Yanqing was about to say wasn’t simple. For a moment, Wen Yu thought Lin Yanqing was going to come clean. But then she heard Lin Yanqing say, “I’m worried that Yuan Yiyang has other intentions toward you.”
Wen Yu: “?”
What is she talking about?
Don’t you two have something going on?
“You two will be spending the next two weeks together. I’m not at ease,” Lin Yanqing continued.
Not at ease about who? Is she not at ease about me?
Wen Yu’s mind barely managed to cast aside all her previous assumptions and thought about Lin Yanqing’s words.
“Being with Yuan Yiyang will only lead to negative news, which is not good for the Wen family or the Lin family. You know this better than I do,” what Lin Yanqing said was true. The Wen family cared more about their reputation in this regard. “I know you don’t have that idea, but it’s inevitable that the paparazzi will make something up. So you need to keep your distance from Yuan Yiyang.”
“In terms of collaboration, Yuan Yiyang is great, but in terms of personal feelings, I don’t like Yuan Yiyang.”
Wen Yu’s mind buzzed and was overloaded.
Lin Yanqing said a lot more official things, but Wen Yu’s mind was only on one thought:
If Lin Yanqing doesn’t like Yuan Yiyang, then who is the person she mentioned on the phone?
