How About A Divorce? - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: The Jerk
After angrily cursing Lin Yanqing’s petty behavior in her heart, Wen Yu turned around and acted all cutesy and obedient to her mom, and only after much persuasion was the matter settled.
She was quite experienced in deceiving her own mother.
The Wen family and the Lin family had always had a good relationship. Wen Yu and Lin Yanqing went to the same high school, and they never got along. Tattling on each other was a common occurrence. And ever since they got married, the number of times Lin Yanqing tattled had been stacking up. As soon as Wen Yu was caught doing something bad, within ten minutes, a message from her mom would appear.
It was a skill honed by practice.
The strange thing was, every time she did something bad, she would always get caught by Lin Yanqing.
Wen Yu had been quite well-behaved lately. It was just last night that she craved something sweet and got a bottle of two to three-degree flavored wine. She was self-aware enough to stop after drinking less than half a bottle, feeling that it wasn’t a big deal—unless she got caught.
Tsk, as expected, she was unlucky as soon as she saw Lin Yanqing.
Wen Yu pouted and threw the rest of the wine into the trash can.
She took out her old microphone from her pocket and tested the sound. It was still good.
Wen Yu logged into her account, posted a live stream announcement, and went offline to set up her new equipment.
At the appointed time, Lin Yanqing came to knock on the door. Her gaze swept over the trash can in Wen Yu’s room and saw the tragically abandoned flavored wine. She was very satisfied. “Dinner’s ready.”
At the dinner table, Lin Yanqing pushed the stir-fried wood ear mushrooms in front of Wen Yu, poured her water, and arranged her bowls and plates. Her movements were natural, making sure Wen Yu was well taken care of.
Wen Yu took a bite of a dish and slightly looked up at the woman opposite her.
To be fair, Wen Yu really enjoyed being taken care of like this—especially since this woman had a cold, elegant, and intimidating demeanor outside.
Unfortunately, she enjoyed it, but not too much.
Some things still had to be said.
“Have you been busy lately?” Wen Yu took a sip of water and asked, seemingly nonchalantly.
“The busiest period just passed. I only have the top 100 creator event in Jingnan for the next two days. It’s nothing important. I’ll just show up and meet some business partners.”
“Top 100?” The name sounded familiar to Wen Yu.
She remembered. She had recently seen marketing for this event. Sang Yunduo had even lamented when Wen Yu would be qualified to attend such events.
“Interested?”
“Not interested.” It was a hot day, and Wen Yu didn’t want to join in on the fun. Besides, that wasn’t the point.
Wen Yu brought the topic back. “Are you going alone?”
“I’ll bring my assistant and also meet a friend…” At this, Lin Yanqing paused.
Wen Yu noticed it keenly and asked, “What’s wrong? Is it not convenient to say?”
“No,” Lin Yanqing’s tone was slightly surprised. “I just didn’t expect you to ask about this.”
Wen Yu frowned.
Lin Yanqing rested her head on her hand, her eyes full of a smile. “Checking up on me?”
When the two of them were together, Lin Yanqing would occasionally throw out an ambiguous line to add some flavor to their bland marriage and to disgust Wen Yu.
Wen Yu paused and pouted. “Suit yourself.”
If she didn’t suspect Lin Yanqing was cheating, she wouldn’t even bother to ask.
Lin Yanqing calmly nodded and explained, “It’s an old friend. You don’t know her.”
This annoyed Wen Yu. Before she could get angry, Lin Yanqing added, “If you want to see her, I can take you with me to Jingnan.”
Wen Yu paused.
Then it shouldn’t be the mistress. After all, no one would invite their wife to be friends with the mistress… probably.
Wen Yu couldn’t be sure of Lin Yanqing’s intention. What if she was just pretending to be open about it?
Lin Yanqing stared at Wen Yu. “Should I book the tickets?”
Wen Yu: “No need. I’m not going.”
Even if she were to go, she wouldn’t go with Lin Yanqing, in case she spooked the snake.
“I’m full.” Wen Yu put down her chopsticks and stood up.
She had barely touched her food. Lin Yanqing asked, “How are you full already? Is your stomach rented? You’re using it so sparingly.”
Wen Yu was retorted. She sneered, “Your cooking is just so-so. Not as good as takeout.”
After saying that, she didn’t look at Lin Yanqing again and went straight upstairs.
There was still half an hour until the scheduled time. Wen Yu sat in her computer chair, swaying left and right. The more she swayed, the more she felt uncomfortable, so she decided to start the live stream early.
“My baby, why did you start the stream early?!”
“I’m here, I’m here, watching the pathetic Wen Wen get all worked up!”
“Are you still playing the hammer game tonight, Wen Wen? Why don’t you edit a game video? It’s pretty funny~”
Because she started the stream early, there weren’t many viewers yet. A few sporadic comments floated on the screen, and Wen Yu slowly answered:
“Just warming up for now. I’ll start playing the game at the scheduled time.”
“I promise I’ll stay calm this time!”
“Don’t you guys want to see this?… No editing, absolutely no editing! I’m a serious lifestyle blogger.”
Wen Yu had enough to eat and drink. Besides spending money, she didn’t have any special hobbies. On a whim, she created an account. Her casual style attracted many fans. She usually just posted about her daily life and occasionally checked in at tourist spots. She actually managed to accumulate a million followers.
Miss Wen was rarely satisfied, and in her happiness, she promised to do a live stream for her million followers.
In a strict sense, this was the first time she showed her face. In her usual videos, she wore a mask and didn’t show her whole face.
That night, for her first live stream, her delicate face paired with her captivating voice attracted many people. She gained a lot of followers in a short period of time. If Wen Yu hadn’t gotten all worked up and her live streaming career hadn’t gone downhill because of a bucket of coke, her account’s popularity could have gone even higher.
But Wen Yu didn’t care about that. Just like her old fans didn’t care what Wen Yu played on her live stream, they just wanted to see her and chat.
“What did Wen Wen eat tonight?”
“Nothing much,” Wen Yu said. “I’m full from being angry.”
“What’s wrong, my baby?”
“It’s nothing. Just one of those days.” Wen Yu changed the subject.
She was chatting but was a little distracted. In the middle of it, Sang Yunduo entered the live stream, and the moderator’s icon was flashing brightly.
Sang Yunduo: “Let’s see if a certain someone will get all worked up tonight—”
Wen Yu sneered, “I’m going to kick you out.”
The two of them talked casually and bantered with each other.
Sang Yunduo and Wen Yu were online friends. They met in the comments section of a video and somehow became friends, but they had never met in person.
The live stream became lively. Sang Yunduo also bantered with Wen Yu, and a group of people chatted enthusiastically.
At this moment, there was a sudden knock on the door.
Wen Yu didn’t have a habit of locking the door. The person outside waited for three seconds and then pushed the door open. In those three short seconds, Wen Yu had already put the coke on the table into the desk drawer.
“What quick hands! Why are you so guilty, kid!”
“Hahahahahahahaha your hands are faster at hiding things than at playing games. Is Wen Wen getting checked on by her parents, hahahahahahaha”
Lin Yanqing was holding a bowl of white fungus soup. She walked closer and placed the white porcelain bowl on the table. “You didn’t eat much for dinner. Have some to fill your stomach.”
The old microphone’s sound quality was not bad, it was even better. Lin Yanqing’s voice was clearly heard in the live stream, and the comments instantly surged.
“Something’s not right. The live stream I stumbled upon is definitely not right!”
“Wen Wen is not right. She’s too well-behaved… Tsk tsk, who is this faceless goddess?”
In the live stream, Wen Yu stopped laughing. Her hand was no longer propping up her face. The chair that had been swaying stopped moving. She was obediently nestled in the big chair, like a cat being held by the scruff of its neck.
Wen Yu herself wasn’t aware of this. She just thought she was putting on airs. “I don’t want to drink it.”
Lin Yanqing hummed and slightly bent down. She took a bottle of coke from the desk drawer.
Wen Yu: “…”
She was so annoyed.
Lin Yanqing put her arm on the back of the chair and gently pushed. The rocking chair turned a bit, and Wen Yu’s slightly unconvinced expression fell into her eyes.
Lin Yanqing’s eyes were smiling. “Drink less of this. Are you planning to contribute to your dentist’s业绩?”
Wen Yu was lectured. She twitched her lips. “Mind your own business.”
“Okay,” Lin Yanqing pushed the bowl toward Wen Yu. “I’ll give it back to you after you drink this.”
After they got married, they basically didn’t interfere with each other, except for mealtimes, where Lin Yanqing was particularly meddlesome. She would even ask Wen Yu’s mom to watch her so Wen Yu wouldn’t eat anything she shouldn’t while she was on a business trip.
So troublesome.
Wen Yu was not willing to go along with her. “I’m not drinking.”
“Then I’ll tell mom.”
Wen Yu: “…”
She really had to get a divorce as soon as possible.
As soon as Wen Yu thought about her mom’s nagging, her head started buzzing. She picked up the bowl and chugged it down. After wiping her mouth with a random piece of tissue, she reached out to Lin Yanqing.
Lin Yanqing took out a candy from her pocket and placed it in her palm.
Wen Yu: “?”
“Not a candy. I want the coke.”
“It’s all the same,” Lin Yanqing held the coke bottle with one hand and picked up the bowl with the other. “If I catch you drinking this stuff again, I’ll feed the coke to Zhao Dafeng, Li Guoqiang, and Wang Fengxia.”
There was a decorative fish tank on the first floor. Wen Yu kept three ugly, colorful fish in it. As she raised them, she developed feelings for them. Wen Yu named them Zhao Dafeng, Li Guoqiang, and Wang Fengxia.
Wen Yu: “…”
That jerk! Threatening her with the fish’s lives!
After Lin Yanqing said that, she turned and walked out.
Wen Yu watched helplessly as the coke got further away from her. She was so angry that she wanted to scratch Lin Yanqing to death.
Her phone vibrated.
Sang Yunduo sent a message: “Who is this?”
Only then did Wen Yu look at the comments. A group of people were discussing the same question, guessing with great passion and excitement.
“I bet a dollar, this is Wen Wen’s sister. Look how well-behaved Wen Wen is.”
“The account I stumbled upon is definitely not simple. I bet a bag of spicy strips, it’s her girlfriend! She called her mom, so they must have met the parents!”
“My cyber wife seems to be with someone behind my back. What should I do? I’m waiting for an answer, and I’m pretty anxious!”
Wen Yu waved her hand and casually put the candy in the desk drawer. “What girlfriend? There’s no such thing. She’s just…”
She paused mid-sentence, then continued, “… a roommate.”
“Ohhh~ A roommate~ What kind of roommate calls her mom~”
“Is that what city people call roommates? Tsk tsk tsk~ The roommate cooks for her~ And she doesn’t let Wen Wen drink coke~”
Wen Yu tsked and looked at the time. She interrupted their teasing. “Time’s up. Let’s play the game. This is my last live stream tonight, so cherish it while you can.”
The familiar barrel and the familiar hammer. So familiar that she was once again on the verge of getting worked up.
But this time, there was no bucket of coke beside her. Wen Yu shook her hand so much it almost fell apart, but all she did was make the candy in the desk drawer fall to the ground.
When the man once again fell back to the starting point, Wen Yu slammed her mouse, her face filled with hatred for the game developer.
“What a malicious game!”
The comments were all “hahahahaha.”
Wen Yu calmed herself down, picked up the candy from the floor, and put it on the table before continuing to battle, until the end of the live stream was near. Her shaky mental defense finally started to rebuild.
“I’m not playing anymore. Time’s almost up.” When Wen Yu said she wouldn’t play, she wouldn’t play. She quickly closed the game window.
“She’s anxious. She’s trying to save face now.”
“I’m dying of laughter. After all that effort, she’s back at the starting point.”
For the last ten minutes, Wen Yu chatted. She took all the teasing comments in stride and also gave out a few lucky bags.
Rich Wen Wen, giving out money online.
After giving out the money, Wen Yu happily closed the live stream and went downstairs for a drink of water.
The study was on the first floor. Wen Yu walked past it after getting her water and noticed a light coming from under the door.
This room was only used by Lin Yanqing, but Wen Yu didn’t expect her to still be up so late.
But it was none of her business. She wasn’t a person who liked to manage others.
Wen Yu lifted her foot and was about to leave when she heard some sounds from inside.
“This is suitable for a gift.”
Wen Yu’s movements paused.
Lin Yanqing’s voice was a little muffled, but her tone was gentle. “I wanted to go to Jingnan before, and it’s a good chance to check in… not a popular check-in spot, but a place related to her.”
What kind of check-in? Who is she? Is it a lover?
Wen Yu bit the inside of her cheek and pushed the door open.
Her eyes immediately fell on the person behind the desk.
Lin Yanqing’s long hair was spread out, with a few strands resting on the desk. She was writing something. There were a few A4 papers scattered in front of her. The sporadic handwriting was messy, as if her thoughts were not at peace.
Lin Yanqing in the room looked up and was slightly surprised. “Not going to bed yet?”
Wen Yu: “I can’t sleep.”
From anger.
The person on the other end said something and hung up.
Lin Yanqing looked at Wen Yu. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Yu folded her arms across her chest. “Who were you on the phone with just now?”
This question wasn’t suitable to be asked between them. It was like checking up on her, unnecessary and overstepping.
As soon as she asked the question, Wen Yu frowned. “Forget it. Pretend I didn’t…”
“Zheng Xin. You know her,” Lin Yanqing answered.
Wen Yu’s words stopped.
Zheng Xin, Lin Yanqing’s childhood friend. The three of them went to the same high school. She was a very beautiful woman who was already married.
Wen Yu’s expression softened. “Oh.”
She wanted to ask what kind of check-in and who the “her” was in Lin Yanqing’s mouth. The words were on the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed them.
Don’t spook the snake yet.
Wen Yu walked in and looked at the papers on the desk. “Still busy?”
Lin Yanqing calmly put the papers together and flipped them over on the desk. “Just writing something.”
Wen Yu looked at the stack of papers and then at her.
Lin Yanqing looked away. Wen Yu rarely saw a guilty expression on this woman’s face. For a moment, she was filled with a fiery rage. She thought that this person was writing a love letter to her mistress, which was why she was so guilty. She reached out and pressed on the stack of papers, pulling them out with force. “Lin Yanqing, I need to tell you that even though this marriage of ours is as good as not being married, don’t be so arrogant and lie to me…”
Lin Yanqing didn’t use much force. She didn’t expect Wen Yu to pull out the papers. Before she could say anything, she saw Wen Yu suddenly stop talking.
It wasn’t what she expected. It didn’t have any messy stuff about mistresses or lovers. All it had were various recipes.
If she looked closely, they were all her favorite foods.
Lin Yanqing saw that Wen Yu’s expression was off and thought she had realized something. She subconsciously rubbed her fingers together, but she didn’t expect this thoughtless person to blurt out, “Are you changing careers to be a chef?”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
Lin Yanqing snatched the papers back. “Yes, I’m going to be a chef and research what can poison a heartless person like you to death.”
Wen Yu: “?”
Wen Yu laughed out of anger. “Why are you scolding me?”
Lin Yanqing: “I’m not. I’m just stating the facts.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu couldn’t win against Lin Yanqing, but it would be too embarrassing to leave now. She simply walked behind the desk, intending to have a close-quarters fight with Lin Yanqing.
Mature women and wives solve problems with their fists.
But before Wen Yu could even threaten her with her fists, Lin Yanqing had already grabbed her wrists and spun her around. Wen Yu’s arms were forced to be crossed in front of her chest. In the next second, she was thrown out of the study.
Lin Yanqing: “Alright, stop messing around. Go get some rest.”
Wen Yu: “Lin Yanqing, you’re a jerk!”
“Yes, yes, I’m a jerk,” Lin Yanqing said, then suddenly added, “Remember to shower tonight.”
Wen Yu’s struggling movements froze.
Although the two of them had been at odds for many years, they were married. People have needs. Wen Yu and Lin Yanqing were no exception. Having s3x was legal, and they had no psychological burden.
But it was different now. Wen Yu suspected that Lin Yanqing had someone outside, and it disgusted her.
Wen Yu: “I’m not showering!”
Lin Yanqing was surprised but respected her wife’s preference. “… That works too.”
She then asked, “Do I need to shower?”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu gave Lin Yanqing a slap. It was light, like being scratched by a cat, not hurting at all.
“Get lost!”
After cursing, Wen Yu fled in a panic.
Lin Yanqing watched her go upstairs, her slender calves pattering. She lowered her eyes and thought for a few seconds, then suddenly burst out laughing.
It was so much fun to tease her.
After hearing the sound of water in the bathroom, Lin Yanqing closed the computer and went upstairs.
