How About A Divorce? - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Barking Like a Dog
Li Jie was held up by Xiao Zhang, which saved him from a huge embarrassment.
“You really are a short drama director,” Wen Yu sighed. “Even introducing a person is so cringe.”
“I was just stating the truth,” Shi Li said. “We simple-minded short drama makers don’t dare to get involved in politics.”
“Let’s go back,” Lin Yanqing said.
The group got on the elevator. The three people from Zero One just stood outside. The moment the elevator doors closed, their cold sweat stopped.
“We’re finished,” Li Jie said.
…
Inside the elevator, there were no outsiders. Shi Li went straight to the point. “CEO Lin, I haven’t seen you in a month. Have you been sidelined?”
Lin Yanqing: “Yes.”
Shi Li: “Oh.”
Lin Yanqing: “But I can still limit the traffic to Qianchuan’s videos.”
Shi Li: “…”
She laughed it off. “Look at you. You won’t even let me make a joke.”
“I’m not joking. It’s just a matter of limiting traffic. It’s a one-sentence thing,” Lin Yanqing said.
Shi Li immediately pulled Wen Yu over. “Look at her!”
Wen Yu heard this and looked at Lin Yanqing carefully. She nodded. “I’ve looked. She’s pretty.”
Shi Li: “…”
Lin Yanqing laughed out loud.
The stagnant atmosphere was eased by this distraction. Yuan Yiyang let out a breath.
Sang Yun moved the food she was holding in her right hand to her left. She used some strength to lean against the elevator wall. “Oh my god.”
Wen Yu: “Did you get scared?”
Sang Yun: “A little.”
Wen Yu was about to comfort her, but she heard Sang Yun continue, “It scared me so much that I got hungry.”
When she said this, Wen Yu knew that Sang Yun didn’t need any comfort. A few bites of food would make her feel better.
This kid was truly carefree.
When they got to the garage, they split into two directions. Sang Yun was still following Wen Yu, but Yuan Yiyang pulled her back. She looked confused.
Shi Li said to Lin Yanqing and Wen Yu, “You two can go back together. We’ll take the other car.”
Lin Yanqing: “Okay.”
Wen Yu: “Be careful on the road.”
Yuan Yiyang pulled the clueless Sang Yun along with Shi Li. Wen Yu waved goodbye to Sang Yun and followed Lin Yanqing in the other direction.
When they got to the car, Lin Yanqing got in the passenger seat and said to Wen Yu, “You drive.”
Wen Yu got in the car. “Where did you get this car?”
Lin Yanqing: “It’s a car from the Xi’an branch. I told the driver to go back.”
After she said that, she leaned against the back of the seat, closed her eyes, and let out a deep breath. “I’m so tired.”
“You used to work non-stop, and I never heard you say you were tired. Now you just took a flight and a car ride, and you’re tired.” Wen Yu said this as she started the car. The smart driving system reminded her that the passenger hadn’t buckled up. Wen Yu raised her arm and nudged the other person. “Seatbelt.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t move as if she were dead.
Wen Yu looked over. Lin Yanqing just said, “You buckle it for me.”
“I’m spoiling you,” Wen Yu said, but her hand had already unbuckled her own seatbelt, and she leaned over.
The moment her hand touched the backrest, Lin Yanqing suddenly wrapped her arms around Wen Yu’s waist, pulled her into her embrace, and buried her head in Wen Yu’s neck.
Wen Yu subconsciously held on to the backrest. Her whole body was stiff.
“You—!”
“Just for a moment. Just for a moment,” Lin Yanqing said.
She wasn’t lying when she said she was tired.
Something was wrong with Baiyi. Chen Liangsheng, one of the founders of Baiyi who had worked with Lin Jiao to build it up—and the person in charge of investing in overseas, especially in Africa’s sinking economy—began to turn his attention to the domestic market.
The success of the African economy had made Chen Liangsheng greedy. He was not satisfied with Lin Jiao’s conservative development in the domestic market. He wanted to move most of Baiyi’s liquid funds to invest in high-risk, high-return industries and had convinced many small and medium shareholders.
Lin Jiao was against it. The two of them parted on bad terms.
When they started their company, everyone had a handle on each other. Chen Liangsheng began to tentatively release some information. When Lin Jiao found out, she warned him. So Chen Liangsheng halted some of the African business, causing Baiyi’s cash flow to be temporarily blocked.
Lin Jiao was in a frenzy over this matter, and Lin Yanqing was naturally involved.
As soon as she returned to Beicheng, she had more than ten meetings back to back. She had to withstand the pressure from Baiyi on Zero One and also appease Zero One’s board of directors.
Lin Yanqing’s position was now precarious. She could be overthrown at any time, but she couldn’t tell anyone about it or show any flaws that would boost other people’s morale.
The few moments of free time she had were spent in the gym, using endorphins to calm her emotions. When she imagined the worst-case scenario, her mind always went to Wen Yu.
As long as Wen Yu didn’t divorce her, Lin Yanqing could still rely on this little bit of love-struck brain to comfort herself.
Wen Yu was her portable charger.
But at this moment, her portable charger clicked her tongue and mercilessly pushed Lin Yanqing away. She also said, “Are you three years old?”
“Yes, I’m three years old,” Lin Yanqing had to let go. She stared at her palm in a daze. “The charge isn’t full.”
Wen Yu was confused. “What charge?”
Lin Yanqing shook her head. She wasn’t too disappointed. She wasn’t surprised by Wen Yu’s rejection. The two of them were not a couple who could hug each other casually. She was already very satisfied that Wen Yu didn’t just slap her away.
Wen Yu unbuckled the seatbelt on Lin Yanqing’s side, buckled it for her, and stepped on the gas. In just over ten minutes, they arrived at the hotel where Wen Yu was staying.
After they entered the room, Lin Yanqing walked toward the restroom, but Wen Yu stopped her.
“Come here.”
When Wen Yu said this, she had already sat down on the sofa. She patted the spot next to her, calling her like a puppy. “Lin, the three-year-old, come and hug.”
Lin Yanqing was stunned. “What?”
Wen Yu was impatient. “Didn’t you want to hug me?”
“Just now in the car, I just pushed you away, and you looked so wronged. I’m not blind…”
Wen Yu had noticed that Lin Yanqing’s mood was off at the time, but it was really difficult for a weak person like her to stretch her waist and hug her. If she really hugged her for half an hour, her back would be ruined.
Wen Yu could only push her away. When she lowered her eyes, her gaze was suddenly caught by the redness in Lin Yanqing’s eyes, as if she had done something unforgivable.
It was quite heartbreaking.
Lin Yanqing stood still.
“Are you going to hug me or not? If not, I’m going to take a shower…” Wen Yu made a move to get up. The next second, Lin Yanqing pulled her and pushed her down onto the sofa.
“Hug,” Lin Yanqing said. “Let me charge for a bit.”
“Two dollars for half an hour. Anything less than half an hour is still two dollars,” Wen Yu said.
“Okay,” Lin Yanqing laughed in a muffled way. “I’ll get an annual card.”
“There’s no discount on the annual card.”
“I don’t need a discount. I’ll take a hundred years first.”
“You wish,” Wen Yu was amused. “I’m going to raise the price in the future. It’s not a buyout.”
“Raise it. I’ll buy it no matter how much it is.”
The two of them bantered for a few sentences. Their voices gradually quieted down. Lin Yanqing’s breathing gradually became steady. It was like white noise beside Wen Yu’s ear. Wen Yu was almost falling asleep.
“Wen Yu.”
“…Hm?”
“I have something to tell you.”
“Should we talk while lying down or sitting up?”
Lin Yanqing thought for a moment. She held Wen Yu tighter in her arms. “Let’s talk while hugging.”
Wen Yu laughed. The rise and fall of her chest caused Lin Yanqing’s heart to resonate. She said, “Go on.”
“It’s not good news.”
“Duh,” Wen Yu said lazily. “If it were good news, would you be looking half-dead?”
Lin Yanqing smiled and brought up the main topic. “Something’s wrong with Baiyi.”
She briefly explained the situation. Wen Yu didn’t even move her eyelids. She opened her mouth and went straight to the heart of the matter. “Just give Chen Liangsheng some benefits first.”
“How so?”
“She just came from overseas to the domestic market. She’s not familiar with many of the businesses, but she wants to have the final say. So she’s using aggressive behavior to force everyone to back down,” a common saying is to lift the roof first if you want to open the door, and when people see this, they’ll think it’s a big deal and agree to let her open the door. “She just wants to get a piece of the domestic market. She doesn’t want to flip the chessboard. Let Aunt Lin give her a little bit of a benefit to fill her appetite. Then you can figure out how to take her down later.”
Lin Yanqing bit Wen Yu’s ear. “You’re quite smart.”
“I may not have eaten pork, but I’ve seen a pig run,” Wen Yu said. “Don’t you even know my last name?”
Wen Yinghuan didn’t really let her get involved in the business world, but Wen Yu wasn’t stupid. After hearing and seeing so much, she could also come up with a few decent-sounding words. Not to mention that her sister was Wen Rong, a sharp-minded person who had personally tutored her for a few months because she was worried that her little sister was too naive.
In those few months, Wen Yu had seen what it was like to find a piece of gold just by shaking hands and had also learned how to turn that gold into scrap metal in three sentences.
It was much more exciting than Wen Yinghuan’s side.
“What if my mom doesn’t want to back down?” Lin Yanqing said.
Wen Yu’s way of thinking was very conventional and in line with a normal businesswoman’s. But Lin Jiao was not a normal person.
“Then it’s simple,” Wen Yu said.
“How so?”
“The simplest thing is to acquire the shares of the small and medium shareholders. You’ll surpass Chen Liangsheng and make her behave.”
“Chen Liangsheng also has a lot of shares, and many people are on her side now.”
“Then agree to Chen Liangsheng’s strategy. Invest in high-risk industries. You stabilize your own position and act according to the situation. If you make money, you’ll take it. If you lose money, you’ll trample her,” Wen Yu said. “If Chen Liangsheng succeeds, Baiyi won’t lose. If she falls, you won’t lose.”
Lin Yanqing laughed out loud. Wen Yu hit her. “What are you laughing at?”
“How come I never noticed you were so black-hearted when we were in school?”
“Just tell me if I’m right or not?” Wen Yu said.
“You are, and you’re not.”
Wen Yu moved. She pulled her arm out. With a push, she flipped over and laid on top of Lin Yanqing. “What do you mean?”
“What you can think of, I can also think of, and my mom can also think of. And of course, Chen Liangsheng can also think of.”
“You’re calling me stupid,” Wen Yu was unhappy.
“No, we’re the ones with a black heart. You’re just naive.”
Wen Yu’s thoughts were shallow. Lin Yanqing’s actions were deep. She had to implement every step herself, and every step was mentally and physically exhausting. The path she took was indeed completely different from the ones Wen Yu had suggested.
Lin Yanqing suspected that Lin Jiao wanted to do something big, something that didn’t care about anyone’s life or death.
“Pfft!” Wen Yu sat up. “I’m not going to care about you anymore.”
“No, you can’t,” Lin Yanqing held Wen Yu’s hand. “If you don’t care about me, who will you care about?”
“A dog.”
“…Woof,” Lin Yanqing softly barked. The tips of her ears were red. She was a little embarrassed herself, and her eyes, which were rarely shy, were looking away.
But Wen Yu didn’t have time to appreciate this shy and beautiful scene. Her entire attention was on the word “woof.” The next second, she slapped Lin Yanqing’s forehead.
Lin Yanqing: “…”
“She’s not running a fever. Did she burn out her brain last time?” Wen Yu looked at her as if she were a ghost.
Lin Yanqing moved Wen Yu’s hand away with a blank face.
What a blockhead.
“Do it again,” Wen Yu suddenly got interested.
“No way,” Lin Yanqing got up and tried to move Wen Yu off of her. “I’m going to take a shower.”
“You’re not allowed to,” Wen Yu held on to Lin Yanqing’s shoulders. “Just one more time.”
“No.”
“You’ve never barked like this before. Lin Yanqing, you never did it in bed,” Wen Yu’s curiosity was piqued.
“You did it in bed,” Lin Yanqing stated a fact.
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu wanted to bite her, but Lin Yanqing didn’t give her a chance. The latter got up, lifted her, and walked toward the bathroom.
“Let’s shower together.”
Charging time was limited. They wouldn’t separate unless it was absolutely necessary.
Wen Yu was about to protest, but she suddenly blinked. She jumped off of Lin Yanqing, actively hooked her arms around Lin Yanqing’s waist, and smiled. “Okay.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
She had a bad feeling.
“Tonight, I’m definitely going to make you bark like a dog,” Wen Yu said to Lin Yanqing with a smile.
