How About A Divorce? - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: The Marriage Partner [VIP]
“The marriage alliance was proposed by your Lin family.”
In the beginning, Lin Jiao was interested in the Wen family’s background. Without considering Lin Yanqing’s wishes, she made an agreement with Wen Yinghuan and didn’t tell Lin Yanqing who the marriage partner was, only that she should prepare for the engagement.
Lin Yanqing didn’t make a scene at the time. She just dropped all her work and flew overseas, expressing her dissatisfaction with her actions. She didn’t return the night before the engagement. Lin Jiao couldn’t handle the pressure of her daughter running away from the wedding and had to discuss it with Wen Rong. When Wen Rong found out, she also didn’t want her sister to be wronged. She simply told Lin Yanqing that the marriage alliance was just a joke and she didn’t have to take it seriously.
At that time, when Lin Yanqing saw Wen Rong, she was stunned. She realized something and asked, “The Wen family is my marriage partner?”
Wen Rong: “Yes, my sister.”
These two words made Lin Yanqing take a red-eye flight back. At dawn, she stumbled into the makeup room where Wen Yu was.
At that time, Wen Yu was not fully awake. She squinted her eyes and let the makeup artist put on her makeup. She just glanced over and saw the extremely disheveled woman. She opened her mouth and said provocatively, “Oh, you’re back to call off the engagement? That’s good because I didn’t want to either—”
Her voice was interrupted. Lin Yanqing said, “I’m back to get married.”
Wen Yu: “?”
Lin Yanqing walked up to Wen Yu, raised her hand, and pressed it against Wen Yu’s lips. She smiled. “Whoever doesn’t get married is a dog.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu, barefoot, stepped on Lin Yanqing’s knee and said softly, “You want to be a dog? Just say it.”
Unfortunately, neither of them became one. The engagement went smoothly, and the marriage was completely unopposed. Lin Yanqing rushed to prepare everything, as if she was afraid the person would run away.
Wen Rong saw all of this. Anyone who wasn’t blind could see Lin Yanqing’s feelings for Wen Yu.
In the teahouse, Wen Rong repeated the question: “If you fail, should your marriage alliance with my sister also end?”
It seemed like a rhetorical question, but it was actually a notification.
It wouldn’t be right to let the Wen family bear the risk of the Lin family’s downfall. The marriage alliance was for a win-win situation. If one side collapsed, a divorce was normal. The two of them were not a couple who started from nothing. There was no need for moral condemnation.
“No,” Lin Yanqing said with a single word.
Wen Rong had long expected this and just smiled. “What you’re saying is just your thoughts, not the outcome.”
Lin Yanqing: “The outcome will also be this.”
“That’s what you think, but Wen Wen might not.”
Thinking of Wen Yu’s attitude, which she had tested before, Lin Yanqing couldn’t refute it.
Wen Rong changed the subject. “But I don’t really know my sister. Wen Wen’s choice is up to her. She can do whatever she wants. We have her back.”
She didn’t care about the romantic feelings between the two of them. She was just hinting at the pros and cons and stating her position—don’t drag the Wen family down if the Lin family collapses, and don’t involve Wen Yu.
“I only have one request. When the time comes, the two families will issue a divorce statement to stabilize the stock price. Whether it’s a real divorce or a fake one, I don’t care,” Wen Rong said.
Lin Yanqing gripped her teacup tightly.
…
Wen Yu was bantering with Sang Yun and the others when she received a call from Wen Rong.
Sang Yun was still as carefree as ever. Although she knew that Wen Yu’s identity was not simple, this identity was too far away from her. It didn’t affect her holidays or her salary, so she didn’t have any real feelings about it. She also didn’t have the intention of flattering people to climb up the ladder. She was still happily squatting down and plucking blades of grass.
The grass tasted sour when chewed. Sang Yun plucked a large handful and gave several to Wen Yu to chew slowly.
Wen Yu chewed it and thought she had gone back to nature and become a herbivore.
Sang Yun: “It’s refreshing.”
Chew, chew, chew.
Wen Yu: “It is.”
Chew, chew, chew.
Yuan Yiyang on the side: “…”
She was the lead actress. She couldn’t eat or drink recklessly even during her rare break time to avoid any issues. So she could only listen to the two of them chewing on grass and spitting out the dregs.
The blade of grass dangled from her lips, looking quite unprofessional.
After Wen Yu finished one bunch, she asked, “Can I have a few more?”
Sang Yun handed her some. “As much as you want.”
The two of them continued to chew.
Yuan Yiyang: “…”
Yuan Yiyang squatted down. “Is it good?”
She was handed a few blades of grass. Sang Yun said generously, “You can try.”
Yuan Yiyang started chewing.
Sang Yun also said, “But my mom says that eating too much of this can make your heart race, so let’s eat less.”
Yuan Yiyang: “Okay.”
Chew, chew, chew.
Shi Li looked back and saw the grand painting of the three of them squatting down and eating grass.
Shi Li: “…”
Who tied three sheep here?
When Yuan Yiyang and Sang Yun saw Shi Li looking at them with a blank face, they gradually stopped chewing and started to worry that the director would get angry and plant the grass on their foreheads. Wen Yu, on the other hand, was fearless.
She met Shi Li’s gaze, just like a salesperson in a mall seeing a potential customer. She asked eagerly, “Do you want to have some?”
Shi Li: “No…”
Wen Yu: “It’s good.”
Wen Yu had already raised her hand and handed a blade of grass to Shi Li’s mouth.
Shi Li sighed and had to bite it. She held it in her mouth and then said, “Sang Yun, get the bl00d pack. Yuan Yiyang, get ready for take B.”
Wen Yu asked, “What about me?”
“Eat grass.”
Wen Yu laughed happily with the blade of grass in her mouth. Just then, her phone rang. She went outside to answer it. Her voice was muffled. “Sister?”
“What are you doing?” Wen Rong asked.
Wen Yu: “Eating grass.”
Wen Rong: “?”
“It’s refreshing. I’ll ask Aunt Liu to plant some in the backyard when I get back.”
Wen Rong laughed.
Wen Yu: “Is there something you need, Sister?”
Wen Rong: “I’m going home tomorrow. Do you want to come back and meet up with me?”
Wen Rong usually lived at their dad’s place. To avoid gossip, she rarely met with Wen Yu and the others, but they had a good relationship. They just weren’t on the same household register.
Wen Yu: “Sure, Sister. It’s been a long time since we last saw each other.”
After hanging up the phone, Wen Yu bought her ticket and went to tell Shi Li about the situation. Shi Li looked up from behind the monitor and asked, “Do you want me to arrange a wrap party for you?”
Wen Yu: “That works.”
Shi Li: “Then I’ll book a hotel.”
Wen Yu: “A five-star one.”
Shi Li couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll take you seriously.”
Wen Yu also laughed. “I’m not joking.”
Sang Yun came over. “What hotel?”
Yuan Yiyang also perked up her ears. “What wrap party?”
In the end, the few of them ordered four bowls of noodles and four side dishes of luxury pickled vegetables at a five-star noodle shop—the same one that Sang Yun had taken Wen Yu to, called the Five-Star Noodle Shop.
Shi Li sighed. “This five-star place is really good value.”
Wen Yu picked up a fried egg. “You’re paying.”
“Okay,” Shi Li nodded. “Do you want me to pack some for you to take back?”
“Thank you for your kindness, but there’s no need.”
Sang Yun was eating her noodles happily. Yuan Yiyang ate slowly, taking one bite and drinking three sips of water. She said that her carb intake for the day had already been met, so she could eat protein, but not noodles.
Otherwise, she would have to work out again after eating.
Sang Yun was satisfied with her meal. She looked up and said, “Wen Wen, I’ll go to Beicheng to see you after I’m done with my work.”
“Okay. You should just focus on working hard with Director Shi,” Wen Yu said.
Shi Li: “Are you giving me a mission?”
Wen Yu: “Yes.”
In just three sentences, the two of them had filled Sang Yun’s schedule for the second half of the year. Sang Yun was completely unaware and looked confused. “What mission?”
Yuan Yiyang kindly explained, “Don’t worry about it. Just eat.”
Sang Yun was perfectly fine with this zero-point answer and really didn’t ask anymore.
The group finished their noodles in a relaxed atmosphere. Wen Yu went back to pack her luggage. The other three continued filming.
…
After the plane landed, the old butler got out of the car to pick up Wen Yu.
The butler smiled as he looked at Wen Yu. “Why have you gotten thinner, young miss? The soup is ready at home. You should come back quickly.”
“Aunt Liu, I’ve gained five pounds.”
A voice suddenly came from inside the car. “The meat has all grown on your mouth, hasn’t it?”
Wen Yu looked over and met Wen Rong’s eyes. She giggled twice. “I really did gain weight. If you don’t believe me, we can weigh myself when we get back.”
Wen Rong: “Don’t be silly. I don’t even know how much you weighed before.”
Wen Yu: “Lin Yanqing knows. We both weighed ourselves last time.”
When they were on the island, Lin Yanqing had lost two pounds from her illness, but Wen Yu’s weight hadn’t changed.
At the time, Wen Yu had mocked Lin Yanqing for losing muscle. Lin Yanqing had immediately carried Wen Yu with one arm. Wen Yu had her arms around Lin Yanqing’s neck and laughed. “That doesn’t count. My core is doing all the work. Your arm isn’t trying.”
So Lin Yanqing made Wen Yu let go. As a result, both of them fell onto the bed, laughing uncontrollably.
Thinking of this, Wen Yu couldn’t help but smile. Wen Rong saw this and asked, “Are you that happy just thinking about Little Lin?”
Wen Yu: “Who’s thinking about her?”
Wen Rong: “It’s not me, anyway.”
The two of them talked and laughed, and they soon arrived home. Wen Yinghuan was waiting inside. The three of them had a lively meal. After the meal, Wen Rong took out her car keys and said to Wen Yu, “Let’s go out.”
In the car, Wen Rong answered a call. Wen Yu didn’t say anything and couldn’t find a chance to ask Wen Rong where they were going.
Soon, Wen Rong parked the car outside a club surrounded by pavilions and forests. She said to the person on the phone, “I’ll be there in two hours.”
After she hung up, the two sisters got out of the car. Wen Yu sighed. “You’re so busy, old lady.”
Wen Rong gave her a sidelong glance. “How else would you be so free?”
Wen Yu immediately wrapped her arms around Wen Rong’s arm. “You’re so righteous, Sister! It’s enough that I’m the only idle person in the family. You’re a hard worker.”
A waiter led the way. Wen Yu finally found a chance to ask, “What are we doing here?”
Wen Rong: “Something that concerns you. It’s not convenient to talk about it on the phone, so I found a place to tell you in detail.”
“What is it about?”
Wen Rong paused. “Your marriage alliance with Little Lin.”
Wen Yu was stunned.
She said, “Is the contract about to expire and end, or are we renewing?”
Wen Rong was amused by Wen Yu’s way of describing it. “Your description…”
“It’s about the same. It was originally a marriage of convenience, and there’s a prenuptial agreement. It’s no different from a business project.”
“That’s true,” Wen Rong stared at her. “Is that really what you think?”
Wen Yu asked with genuine confusion, “What else would I think?”
Wen Rong was a little surprised to see that her sister’s expression wasn’t faking it. “I thought you were quite fond of Little Lin.”
Wen Yu was stunned. She then said, “This marriage was arranged by Mom. I didn’t choose it. How did you figure out that I like Lin Yanqing?”
Wen Rong stared at her meaningfully.
If she remembered correctly, when Wen Yinghuan mentioned the marriage alliance, this young lady had a huge tantrum until she found out it was Lin Yanqing.
She had said it was “mutual torment.”
But anyone with eyes could see that Wen Yu was not too unhappy about it.
Wen Rong was about to say something when she caught a glimpse of someone coming around the corner. She changed her words and dug a hole for her sister. “You mean, even if your marriage partner wasn’t Lin Yanqing, you would still agree?”
“Yeah,” Wen Yu nodded. “A marriage alliance is a marriage alliance, no matter who it’s with.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a person walked around the corner of the hallway. Wen Yu looked over and met the person’s eyes. She suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Lin Yanqing was standing there silently. Her dark eyes were half-covered by her eyelids. Her emotions were unreadable, but they made people inexplicably nervous.
That gaze landed on Wen Yu, making her feel as if she had lost all her energy. Her previously self-assured and confident demeanor completely vanished.
She spoke softly, “If you don’t marry me, who do you want to marry?”
Wen Yu was speechless. Her mind was a blank slate.
The grass I chewed yesterday must have been poisonous, she thought. Otherwise, why is my heart suddenly racing?
