How About A Divorce? - Chapter 25.2
Chapter 25.2: The White Moonlight [VIP]
“All Lin Yanqing seems to like are practice tests, especially for math.”
“A white moonlight,” she said.
“Huh?” Everyone was stunned.
One girl’s eyes lit up. “My goodness, the academic superstar has someone she likes?”
Lin Yanqing: “Yes.”
The girl: “How much do you like them?”
“Very much.”
“Ooh, ooh, ooh—” Everyone started to tease.
Chen Yu’an pressed on, “Who is it? Who is it?”
“That’s a second question.” Lin Yanqing finished and spun the bottle, passing the fire to someone else.
Although others were curious, they weren’t close enough to Lin Yanqing to ask more.
During this time, Wen Yu turned over, and Lin Yanqing covered her more securely with her school uniform.
Recalling this, Chen Yu’an took a sip of water and said earnestly to Wen Yu, “What’s a ‘white moonlight’? It’s someone you’ve liked for a very, very long time! How old was Lin Yanqing back then? The person she likes probably knows her since childhood. You’ve read novels, right? The kind where two people have a crush on each other when they’re young, but for some reason, one leaves, and the other spends a lifetime missing them.”
After listening, Wen Yu commented, “You’ve read so many novels that your brain is broken.”
“Don’t worry about that. She’s also married. Who knows if the person she married is that ‘white moonlight’? If so, it means this woman is unreliable. She’s liked someone for so many years and can still change her mind. If it’s not the ‘white moonlight,’ she’s even more unreliable. She has one person in her heart, one person in her bed, and she’s keeping you on the side too!”
“Wow,” Wen Yu said dryly. “She’s a master of time management.”
“Exactly, she’s unreliable!”
“But I don’t believe it,” Wen Yu said. “For now, I won’t try to understand Lin Yanqing through other people’s words.”
That’s what she said, but her mind couldn’t help but think about the “person she likes” that Lin Yanqing mentioned. Now, with a “white moonlight” popping up, anyone with a brain would connect the two.
But Wen Yu wanted to be a fool for a moment and not think about the complications.
Chen Yu’an was so angry she wanted to throw Wen Yu in a spin dryer to get the water out of her brain.
Wen Yu comforted her. “I have my own rhythm.”
“Heh,” Chen Yu’an sneered. “Rhythm Queen.”
Wen Yu: “…”
“So what are you going to give me?” Wen Yu still remembered that Chen Yu’an said she had something for her.
“A big slap in the face,” Chen Yu’an said. “Let’s go, Rhythm Queen. Let’s go see your dear ‘master of time management.'”
Wen Yu’s fists hardened.
The two of them walked out of the room. As they were about to go down the stairs, a voice came from the atrium below. “CEO Lin, I remember in high school you said you had someone you liked. It was the ‘white moonlight’ you talked about in truth or dare, do you remember?”
Lin Yanqing: “I remember.”
Wen Yu heard it and was only slightly stunned. She didn’t have much of a reaction.
Chen Yu’an snorted. “I told you, not everyone has common sense.”
“Did you get together?” the woman asked again.
“We did,” Lin Yanqing answered very naturally.
The words hit Wen Yu. She suddenly stopped. After a while, she leaned against the railing and looked down.
Chen Yu’an was also confused. The character relationships were a bit chaotic for her. “What?”
The two of them were standing directly above the people below. All of their conversations could be heard clearly.
“What’s a ‘white moonlight’?” the blonde woman asked the person next to her.
“It’s someone you’ve liked for a very, very long time but never got,” a girl with short hair explained.
“Ah?” The blonde woman was confused. “But isn’t this Miss Lin married?”
“It doesn’t conflict,” the person said. “The ‘white moonlight’ is one thing, the wife is another, and the mistress is another.”
“Wow…” The blonde woman’s brain overloaded for a second. “So, Miss Lin has a wife, the mistress is the Miss Wen from just now, and she also has a ‘white moonlight’ that she’s liked for a long time and got together with?”
“Mhm.”
“Who told me that people in your country are very traditional?!” The blonde woman had a confused look on her face.
The short-haired girl laughed. “Having three wives and four concubines is also a tradition.”
Wen Yu stood quietly. The blonde woman’s words were swirling in her mind. Every word the people said was picked up by her and pieced together, carved onto the tombstone of her marriage.
The great ambition of being a fool was shattered into pieces in just a few sentences. Wen Yu suddenly realized—or was it a fact that she had deliberately ignored—that the fact that Lin Yanqing had someone in her heart still affected her greatly, not just in their marriage alliance.
Maybe it was possessiveness, Wen Yu thought. From a young age, she had never failed to get what she wanted, and she would never give away what she didn’t want—as long as it was in her hands. But her desire for material things was not deep, and her greed was limited, so this possessiveness was especially unnoticeable.
Lin Yanqing was the first person to be marked by her with a marriage. She was Wen Yu’s person.
But now, this person no longer belonged to her. Self-deception was useless.
Wen Yu suddenly felt a sense of disgust. The so-called family, the so-called wife, the scent of Lin Yanqing’s hair, and the lingering warmth of her bed, which were all contained in her heart, were now torn apart by this fact. Nothing would change—just as Lin Yanqing said, the two of them were deeply entangled in business, and it would be difficult to divorce—but it was ultimately rotten.
It was unusable. It was like chewed-up sugarcane, all dregs, and it had to be spit out.
Wen Yu, whose throat was blocked by the sugarcane, choked. She casually pointed at the short-haired girl who had just made the feudal statement and asked, “Where did you dig up this ancient corpse from the Qing Dynasty?”
“Her? I met her while drinking. She’s a lot of fun.” Chen Yu’an didn’t notice Wen Yu’s change. “She knew I was back and wanted to see if she could find someone she liked. I don’t manage this kind of thing. I don’t do membership screening.”
Wen Yu: “A mixed bag.”
Chen Yu’an: “That’s how we are in the hotel business. We know all kinds of people. We’re not picky.”
The ancient corpse from the Qing Dynasty saw that the blonde woman was shocked by her words and laughed. “I’m just kidding. Don’t take it seriously.”
“We all get it. Who doesn’t have a few confidantes?” the woman who spoke first smiled. “The person who appeared in Wen Yu’s video is you, CEO Lin, right? Does your family member know that you have two people on the side?”
Lin Yanqing seemed to find something funny. She curled her lips, feeling a little absurd. “I guess they do.”
The woman smiled in understanding. “Your sister-in-law is very generous.”
“Mhm,” Lin Yanqing didn’t want to talk anymore.
“Go get me a glass of water,” Wen Yu suddenly said to Chen Yu’an.
Chen Yu’an was confused. “What for?”
“To watch the show.”
Chen Yu’an went into the room and came back with a bottle of water. “I only have mineral water.”
“That’s fine,” Wen Yu unscrewed the cap and took a sip.
The conversation downstairs continued.
The woman sat next to Lin Yanqing and handed her a glass of champagne. “CEO Lin, do you want a drink?”
“Oh, wow,” Chen Yu’an glanced at Wen Yu’s expression. “Someone is trying to hook up with your ‘master of time management.'”
“Mhm. I’m not blind,” Wen Yu said flatly.
“Fortune favors the bold. With your affair already out in the open, there must be a lot of people with bad intentions,” Chen Yu’an said. “In other people’s eyes, you’re just a small internet celebrity. Her status is much higher than yours. And it looks like she’s willing to lower herself. Who doesn’t like someone who is capable and sensible?”
Chen Yu’an leaned against the railing and said earnestly, “You’re out in the open, but we’ve never seen Lin Yanqing’s lover. There might be a line of mistresses, like she’s giving birth to them. Don’t demean yourself, Wen Wen.”
Wen Yu didn’t say anything.
Lin Yanqing didn’t take the drink. The woman was not discouraged. She said, “Our family just opened a new hot spring club. If you have time, CEO Lin, I can show you around.”
“I don’t have time,” Lin Yanqing said.
The woman smiled and put her hand on Lin Yanqing’s wrist. Lin Yanqing suddenly stood up and pulled away, taking a wet wipe to clean her hand. “Have some self-respect.”
Chen Yu’an commented in real-time. “She’s not interested.”
“Shut up,” Wen Yu said.
The three words seemed to not have come from Wen Yu’s mouth. Chen Yu’an was stunned. She had never heard her speak in that tone.
Her voice was weak, as if she had one foot in the grave, but she was holding back her anger.
Chen Yu’an’s eyelids twitched. She had a bad feeling.
The next second, a bottle of mineral water flew down from the second floor. The bottle hit the woman’s shoulder, and the water drenched her.
The people around gasped and looked up. They saw Wen Yu standing there with a cold face. No one dared to make a sound for a moment.
Wen Yu sneered. “Everyone, do you think I’m dead?”
The woman was drenched but didn’t scream. She just smiled. “Wen Yu, is your identity so respectable? Do I need to care about you?”
“Lin Yanqing,” Wen Yu called.
Lin Yanqing heard her and obediently went upstairs, standing next to Wen Yu.
“I refused,” she said obediently.
“And? Do you want me to praise you?” Her tone was as if she had taken a shot of a strong drug.
Lin Yanqing took Wen Yu’s hand, twirling her fingers around her own. “What’s wrong? Did I make you mad?”
“CEO Lin, it’s not a big deal. Why are you so afraid of Wen Yu? What would your family member think?” The woman knew she couldn’t get Lin Yanqing, but she wasn’t afraid and still wanted to disgust her.
“What I think is what her family member thinks,” Wen Yu sneered.
The woman was stunned. “What do you mean?”
“I suggest you go back and study reading comprehension,” Wen Yu said.
Some people had a guess in their hearts, but they still couldn’t believe it.
The blonde woman repeated Wen Yu’s words and pulled on the short-haired girl as if she had answered a question correctly. She said in surprise, “Does Miss Wen mean that she is the person from Miss Lin’s family?”
The short-haired girl: “…”
I hope this blonde woman’s answer is wrong. Please.
“What are you pretending about?” the woman frowned. “A mistress is acting so superior.”
Lin Yanqing only stared at Wen Yu, ignoring the whispers around them. “What did I say that made you angry?”
“I’m not angry,” Wen Yu said. “It’s just that I didn’t know you had a ‘white moonlight.'”
Lin Yanqing was stunned. She immediately understood what Wen Yu was thinking and what she had misunderstood. But this misunderstanding gave her a glimmer of hope. “Wen Wen, I…”
“Having three wives and four concubines, Lin Yanqing,” Wen Yu interrupted. She leaned against the railing, crossed her arms, and took a deep breath, holding on to her last bit of sanity. “Let’s talk about it back home. Don’t make a scene.”
Buzz. The last sentence was a warning bell in Lin Yanqing’s mind—Wen Yu was only mad about her lack of dignity, not because she was jealous, or because she was controlled by her emotions.
Lin Yanqing took a deep breath. Her heart was aching. She wanted to cut open her heart and let Wen Yu taste it so that this woman could feel what she was feeling. But she just said—
“Okay, we’ll talk about it back home.”
These words sounded like an admission to Wen Yu. The latter let go of Lin Yanqing’s hand and walked downstairs.
Chen Yu’an followed her worriedly. “Wen Wen…”
“I’m fine,” Wen Yu smiled. “I’ll go first.”
The woman who was drenched with water quickly walked up and blocked their way. “Apologize to me.”
“Get lost. I don’t want to cuss you out right now.”
“Wen Yu, why are you so rude?” the woman frowned.
“What? Are you going to teach me how to be a person?”
Wen Yu probably used up all her patience today. She looked around and didn’t see anything she could use, so she picked up a bottle of wine.
The woman was startled. “What are you doing?”
Wen Yu raised her hand and slammed it against the table. The bottle shattered, and the golden wine flowed all over the floor.
She took a moment to look at Chen Yu’an and asked politely, “Can I make a scene?”
Chen Yu’an’s brain had already crashed. “…Do whatever you want.”
So Wen Yu raised the broken glass bottle, pointing the sharp end at the woman. “Let me teach you how to be a person.”
As she finished speaking, she fiercely slammed the glass bottle toward the woman. Before the woman’s scream could escape her throat, the glass bottle hit the ground near her feet, shattering into pieces.
“Coward,” Wen Yu said. She then turned and walked away.
The woman had never been provoked like this. She exploded. “Wen Yu, how dare you!”
She wanted to chase after her and grab her, but before she could touch Wen Yu’s sleeve, Lin Yanqing grabbed her wrist.
The woman was furious. “Lin Yanqing, I’m telling you, you can’t protect her today!”
“Does she need you to protect her?” Wen Yu tilted her head and looked at the door. She smiled. “Sister.”
Everyone looked over. A woman walked in from behind the half-open door. Some people didn’t know her and were still confused. The people next to them who did know her pulled their arms and gestured for them to stay quiet.
“We can’t afford to mess with her,” someone whispered.
Wen Rong was followed by a few bodyguards. They had guns on their waists and badges on their shoulders.
Chen Yu’an jogged over and greeted her. “Sister.”
“Making such a big scene?” Wen Rong’s shoes crunched on the broken glass.
The woman who was arguing with Wen Yu clearly knew Wen Rong. Her family had once asked her for a favor but was turned away.
“Wen…” Before the word could even leave her mouth, the woman froze.
Wen.
She suddenly looked at Wen Yu.
Wen Yu ignored the various stares around her. She walked up to Wen Rong and rubbed the bridge of her nose. Her tone was tired. “Sister, you and Yu’an can have a good chat. I’m going back first.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. It’s just a small friction. Let Yu’an tell you about it.”
Wen Yu turned to look at Lin Yanqing. “Let’s go home.”
“Mhm,” Lin Yanqing responded.
After the two of them left together, the people who were left behind were given a lesson by the people who were in the know. Was there anything left to not understand?
Wen Yu was that young lady, Lin Yanqing’s wife. Just now, they had brought up Lin Yanqing’s “white moonlight” and lover in front of the legal wife, and someone even wanted to get into her bed. Wen Yu just broke a bottle of wine. She was being very good-tempered.
The woman’s face turned pale. She almost knelt on the ground. Wen Rong reached out and helped her up.
“Clean up the glass on the floor first.”
Chen Yu’an nodded and called people in to deal with it.
The woman stood stiffly and didn’t dare to move. She silently retreated into the crowd, only hoping that the Wen family, seeing that she didn’t cause a major disaster, would be kind enough to let her go.
Wen Rong glanced at everyone and looked at Chen Yu’an. “Is there any surveillance?”
“Yes,” Chen Yu’an said. “I’ll have someone give it to you later.”
She silently lit a candle for these people.
The name Wen Rong was in no way associated with kindness.
…
In the car.
Lin Yanqing sent the driver away. She sat in the driver’s seat and reminded her, “Seatbelt.”
Wen Yu buckled her seatbelt.
“Are you okay?” Lin Yanqing asked.
“What do you think?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t start the car immediately. She silently looked at Wen Yu’s profile. The only sound in the car was the subtle hum of the air conditioning.
“Why aren’t you driving?” Wen Yu said.
“I’m thinking about how to explain.” Lin Yanqing exhaled. “I was inconsiderate today. I just answered those people’s questions without thinking, and I didn’t expect it to cause a misunderstanding. I apologize to you.”
“Without thinking? A misunderstanding?”
“Mhm.”
“So you don’t have a ‘white moonlight’ that you like?”
A moment of silence.
“I don’t want to lie to you about this,” Lin Yanqing’s voice was low. “But I also can’t explain it to you clearly right now.”
“Heh.”
“But don’t worry, it won’t affect the marriage alliance between the Lin and Wen families, and it won’t affect the reputation of either family.”
“That’s so kind of you.”
“Wen Wen, let’s talk properly.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“…Mhm.”
Lin Yanqing’s answer was like cotton. Wen Yu’s sarcastic punches landed on it, losing all their force, neither high nor low.
“Let’s go. I’m tired,” Wen Yu closed her eyes.
The car started.
A long time passed. So long that the scenery outside the window changed from the sparse lights of the suburbs to the brilliant neon lights of the city.
The two of them were trapped in their own glass bottles, each with their own numbness. If they touched, they would only make a clinking sound. No one dared to bet how fragile the glass bottle was, or if it would pierce them and leave them covered in wounds.
Wen Yu almost gave up. Let’s just get a divorce. This was her plan all along. But she knew that she couldn’t bear to do it. This feeling of not being able to bear it had appeared many times in this short period. Wen Yu had thought about it, doubted it, and vaguely had an answer in her heart, but she had ignored it.
After all, that answer was too cruel for this marriage where they were sleeping in the same bed but dreaming different dreams, and it was too cruel for herself.
But there had to be an end.
At a long traffic light intersection, the car stopped.
Wen Yu suddenly turned her head and looked directly at Lin Yanqing. In her eyes, there was only a kind of scrutinizing calmness and bottomless resolve.
She spoke. “Lin Yanqing.”
“Mhm,” Lin Yanqing turned her head to look at her.
“I don’t want to get into the details. I only have one question for you.”
Lin Yanqing’s heart was in her throat. “Okay, you can ask.”
Wen Yu paused.
This was the final judgment she had reached after thinking about it the entire way. “Yes” or “no” would affect the future. Although the “yes” answer was highly likely, Wen Yu still wanted to ask one more time and hear Lin Yanqing’s answer herself.
Wen Yu: “…Are you, in the end, cheating on me?”
