How About A Divorce? - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Poison [VIP]
All poisons in the world are made in one of two ways. One type is already on a regulated list; you need approval for anything you do, and if you produce it illegally, you’ll go to jail. The other type is something everyone can make. The tongue and teeth work together, clacking up and down, mixing sincerity with a bit of hypocrisy. Once heard, it goes straight to the heart.
It makes you feel numb, and half your body becomes paralyzed because of it.
The four words “I like you” are nothing short of a deadly poison.
Wen Yu blinked, silent for a long time, her heart, liver, and spleen all trembling.
Lin Yanqing just held her and didn’t dare to think too much about what Wen Yu was thinking.
Confessing her feelings was not part of her plan. She was now like a student waiting for a teacher to grade her paper, waiting for Wen Yu to give her a clear score.
Pass? Fail?
What then?
When Wen Yu knew how she felt, what would she ask? When did she start liking her? Why didn’t she say so sooner?
Would she still get a divorce? Could she take her away when they divided the property?
Would she laugh at her for scheming for so long, or would she laugh at her for overestimating herself?
Lin Yanqing’s heart was beating too fast. She buried her head and took a deep breath of Wen Yu’s scent. Wen Yu was too quiet. She needed this to confirm that Wen Yu was truly there.
…It wasn’t her usual shower gel. She needed to take her back and wash her. Lin Yanqing thought.
Wen Yu finally struggled a little. Her first words were, “Lin Yanqing, your heartbeat is too loud.”
Lin Yanqing lowered her eyes. A flicker of joy jumped to her heart, mixed with a grinding anxiety—Wen Yu didn’t reject her right away, nor did she respond to her right away.
Lin Yanqing said, “It’s understandable.”
Wen Yu was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly sighed. “It’s not necessary.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t understand, but she felt the compromise in Wen Yu’s movements, so she pushed her luck. Her lips brushed the back of Wen Yu’s neck as she asked, “What do you mean?”
“You don’t need to lie to me.”
Unfortunately, the poison’s effect was limited and easy to break down. As long as you found one small flaw and gave up on self-deception, you could walk out of the haze. The hasty “I like you” almost had “I’m lying to you” written all over Wen Yu’s face.
Lin Yanqing froze.
Wen Yu’s voice was very calm. “Is this the solution you came up with this past week? It’s very childish.”
With one sentence, she tore up Lin Yanqing’s paper and stamped it with a rejection.
Lin Yanqing was anxious to defend herself to the examiner. “I’m not lying to you.”
Wen Yu pulled Lin Yanqing’s arm away, turned, and faced her.
“Fine, let’s say you’re not lying to me, but…” Wen Yu’s expression didn’t change much. “Who cares about your feelings?”
Did Lin Yanqing think that these words had some kind of special privilege that would exempt her from this unfaithful marriage?
Wen Yu was a little angry and a little sad. The anger and sadness came from Lin Yanqing saying this to comfort her, as if she had forced her to say it by bringing up divorce.
Was it really necessary? To value this marriage of convenience so much that she would say something she didn’t mean.
All of Lin Yanqing’s words were blocked by Wen Yu.
Sure enough, it was no different from one of the many outcomes she had envisioned. Wen Yu didn’t care at all and even found it to be a burden.
A feeling of powerlessness came over her, but because she was mentally prepared, Lin Yanqing didn’t lose her composure. She remained calm. “I don’t have another ‘white moonlight.’ I just said that. I am not emotionally cheating on you.”
“Mhm,” Wen Yu said, not believing a single word.
The love letter she saw couldn’t be faked, and the “I like her, and it has nothing to do with Wen Yu” she heard couldn’t be faked either.
“Let’s go home, Wen Wen.” Lin Yanqing took Wen Yu’s hand. Wen Yu gently shook it off, turned, and sat down on the sofa.
“I’m waiting for someone.”
“That Xie Shu?”
“Yes.”
Wen Yu actually didn’t want to get involved with Xie Shu, but now she wanted to go home with Lin Yanqing even less.
“Are you really going to be her sugar daddy?”
“I can give it a try.”
Lin Yanqing closed her eyes, walked forward, and picked her up. “Come home with me.”
Wen Yu was suddenly lifted into the air and subconsciously clung to her neck, then struggled violently. “Are you crazy?!”
“If you keep moving, you’ll fall,” Lin Yanqing said.
Wen Yu moved even more.
In less than three seconds, both of them fell onto the sofa.
Lin Yanqing propped herself up on one arm, worried about crushing her. She lowered her eyes and looked at Wen Yu. “Wen Wen, let’s go home and talk properly.”
“I don’t want to talk about this right now. I’m waiting for Xie Shu.”
Wen Yu knew how to provoke her. Seeing Lin Yanqing’s face turn cold, she turned her face away, not looking at her, and drove her away. “Then you should leave quickly. Don’t let Xie Shu misunderstand.”
“Misunderstand what?” Lin Yanqing’s voice was cold and flat.
“That being a sugar daddy to a canary isn’t done in the open? Do you want to get involved too?” Wen Yu raised an eyebrow. “You’re quite a playboy.”
The next second, Wen Yu’s mouth was covered. Lin Yanqing wasn’t using much force, just symbolically using her hand to cover the mouth of the person below her.
“Don’t make me angry, Wen Wen.”
Wen Yu closed her eyes and pretended to be dead.
“Name,” Lin Yanqing said.
“Name?”
“You’re calling me a playboy, but you don’t even know my name,” Lin Yanqing said. “What’s my name?”
“Lin Yanqing.”
“I don’t agree with you being her sugar daddy.”
“I don’t care about you.”
She tried to sit up but was pushed back down by Lin Yanqing. First, her hair came down, then her lips and tongue. Wen Yu was bitten until she couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t push her away and was almost drowning.
The sound of a door opening saved her life.
Someone chuckled softly. “Well, well.”
Lin Yanqing took one last bite of Wen Yu’s lower lip before turning her head slightly. She saw a woman leaning against the door with her arms crossed, smiling ambiguously. “Looks like I came at a bad time.”
“Want to add me?” Xie Shu smiled mischievously. “I didn’t come to break you two up. I came to join you. Want to give it a try? It’s a lot of fun.”
Hearing this, Lin Yanqing got up silently, her hair brushing against Wen Yu’s face. She walked toward Xie Shu.
“Wen,” she called out, her voice a warning, “Lin Yanqing.”
“Hey, hey, hey, don’t use your hands,” Xie Shu smiled brightly. “My fans are all downstairs. If you make a scene, it won’t look good for anyone.”
“I,” Lin Yanqing said.
She raised her hand to open the door and looked at her phone.
Xie Shu was confused. “What are you doing?”
Lin Yanqing: “You have one minute.”
Xie Shu: “?”
She raised an eyebrow in displeasure and swaggered to the door. “What? Did you call an alien to come in a spaceship and take me away?”
“Something like that.”
Xie Shu was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing. “You’re so interesting.”
She walked into the room and went to Wen Yu’s side. “Big sister, let’s go get dinner.”
Lin Yanqing lifted her eyelids and looked outside, propping the door open.
The door was wide open, and a voice drifted in with the noise from outside.
“Xie Shu.”
“Why are you yelling?” Xie Shu was impatient and sat down next to Wen Yu. “Today, I’m going to eat with your wife no matter what!”
After saying that, she looked up and saw a woman standing at the door. Xie Shu’s expression changed dramatically, and she jumped up as if her butt was on fire.
“Big… big sister!”
Xie Min said softly, “What did you just say?”
Xie Shu went silent.
Lin Yanqing kindly reminded her, “The alien is here to pick you up.”
Xie Shu: “…”
“Xie Shu, come home with me, and I won’t pursue this matter anymore,” Xie Min said.
Xie Shu hesitated for only half a second, then sat back down next to Wen Yu. “No! I don’t want to go home!”
“Stop acting up,” Xie Min said wearily.
Those two words seemed to hit a nerve with Xie Shu. Her emotions suddenly became intense, and she lashed out at Xie Min. “It’s always the same thing! What am I acting up about?! I’m just doing what I want to do!”
Xie Min’s tone was calm and unaffected. She asked, “Do you really want to be with Miss Wen?”
Wen Yu blinked, thinking, Am I involved in this now?
She subconsciously looked at Lin Yanqing, then forced herself to look away, not meeting Lin Yanqing’s gaze.
“Yes! I want to be in a relationship with Wen Yu!” Xie Shu shouted.
Wen Yu: “…”
How did I not know about this?
“Fine.” To everyone’s surprise, Xie Min agreed immediately.
Even Xie Shu was stunned.
“Then I won’t care about you anymore, Xie Shu,” Xie Min said calmly. She turned and began to walk away.
But she didn’t get two steps before someone grabbed her. Xie Shu’s voice was tearful and angry. “Xie Min, you’re a jerk!”
She wiped away a tear. “You’re not my biological sister. Why do you control me like this?!”
After saying that, Xie Shu wrapped her arms around Xie Min’s waist, her voice muffled in her clothes. “You’re not allowed to not care about me, big sister.”
“I only have you left.”
The atmosphere suddenly became quiet. Wen Yu, who had a mouth full of gossip, decided to briefly bury the hatchet with Lin Yanqing. The two of them exchanged a glance—
“Are we going to be killed to keep us quiet?”
“Probably not.”
“This is all your fault for calling her sister.”
“If I didn’t call her, would you have left with someone else?”
Wen Yu shot back with a resounding “Pfft!” using her eyes.
Xie Min pulled Xie Shu’s arms away—a gesture of rejection. The latter looked like she was about to fall apart, her lips bitten with teeth marks. “Xie Min—”
Xie Min took Xie Shu’s hand, their fingers intertwined.
She said, “Come home with me, Xiao Shu.”
All of Xie Shu’s resentment became a dud.
“Okay, big sister,” she said, her face lighting up with a smile.
When they walked past Lin Yanqing, Xie Min nodded slightly. “Thank you for your trouble.”
“I should be the one saying that.”
After only two polite sentences, Xie Shu couldn’t wait any longer. She squeezed Xie Min’s hand. “Big sister, let’s go home.”
Lin Yanqing smiled. “We can talk again when you have time.”
After they left, Lin Yanqing closed the door and raised an eyebrow at Wen Yu, who was still sitting on the sofa. “Your canary flew away.”
“She’s not the only one.”
After getting a glare from Lin Yanqing, Wen Yu stood up. “Get out of the way. I’m going to get dinner.”
Lin Yanqing stepped aside. Wen Yu walked out the door and towards the elevator. Lin Yanqing followed behind her. “Together.”
“Ugliness can’t be eaten.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
Before Lin Yanqing could say anything, her phone vibrated. It was a call from Zhang Cheng.
She answered and, after listening for a few seconds, frowned. “Is Chen Liangsheng coming?”
Wen Yu stopped and turned to look at her.
Lin Yanqing had mentioned this woman during their three-person conversation at Chen Yu’an’s clubhouse.
“When?” Lin Yanqing asked.
“Now,” a woman’s voice interjected, calm and gentle.
Around the corner ahead, a middle-aged woman in a traditional Chinese tunic suit with short hair stepped out. She saw Lin Yanqing and smiled. “Xiao Lin, what a coincidence.”
Lin Yanqing put down her phone. “CEO Chen.”
“Hey, I’m just here to look around today. No business. Just call me Auntie Chen,” Chen Liangsheng said with a smile, revealing dimples. She looked approachable. She looked at Wen Yu and asked, “This must be Xiao Wen, right?”
Lin Yanqing gently took Wen Yu’s hand and replied with a shallow smile, “Yes.”
Wen Yu: “Auntie Chen.”
Chen Liangsheng acknowledged her. Her clear eyes held kindness, but the words that came out were not so kind. “You don’t have to pretend in front of me, Xiao Lin. You two just had a marriage of convenience. There’s no emotional foundation.”
Lin Yanqing frowned.
“If your mother hadn’t forced you with the inheritance, you wouldn’t have come back to get engaged,” Chen Liangsheng said with a smile, her dimples obvious. “Does Xiao Wen know about this?”
