How About A Divorce? - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Busted
Wen Yu ran upstairs, thinking to herself that Lin Yanqing was a real jerk.
What she said made it so that showering was wrong, and not showering was also wrong. After a long time of inner turmoil, Wen Yu got up, locked her bedroom door, and then went into the attached bathroom.
Lin Yanqing can go sleep in the guest room!
After a quick shower, Wen Yu dried herself off and walked out of the bedroom without a bathrobe. She didn’t expect to see a certain woman, who should have been locked outside, sitting on the bed in a bathrobe. She was drying her hair with one hand, her long legs were propped up, and a MacBook was on top of them.
Her expression was serious, as if she was reading a document.
After Wen Yu came out, Lin Yanqing just slightly tilted her head. Her eyes didn’t move. She was still staring at the computer screen and said, “Dry your hair first.”
Wen Yu: “…”
She exploded.
“How did you get in?!”
Lin Yanqing finally looked up at her. She raised an eyebrow. “I have a bedroom key.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Oh, right. There was more than one key. The other keys were kept in Lin Yanqing’s study.
Wen Yu took a deep breath, took out the hairdryer, and started drying her hair, no longer talking about this topic.
After drying her hair, she walked out. Lin Yanqing glanced at Wen Yu.
Ten minutes later, the person still hadn’t come back.
Lin Yanqing put away her computer.
In the guest room on the first floor, Wen Yu was lying on the bed playing on her phone. Suddenly, the bed sank behind her, and a hand went into her bathrobe.
Wen Yu: “!”
Cold strands of hair fell on her neck, and Lin Yanqing’s voice came out faintly. “Hiding from me?”
Lin Yanqing bit Wen Yu’s ear. “Not a good girl.”
The warm sensation was like an electric shock that went from the tip of her ear to her tailbone. Wen Yu’s hand went limp, and her phone fell onto the pillow.
She was too familiar with Lin Yanqing’s touch. As a result, the hand that wanted to resist instinctively wrapped around the woman’s neck. Lin Yanqing’s wet hair fell on her face. The same shampoo, the same scent, but one was cold and the other was hot, intoxicating Wen Yu and making her mind wander.
The overly direct start left Wen Yu with no energy to question Lin Yanqing about whether she had slept with other people. She could only ask, with her lips close to hers during a brief pause, “Are you clean?”
“I’ve showered, and I’ve washed my hands,” Lin Yanqing chuckled. “Do you want to check again?”
“… Get lost,” Wen Yu still wanted to ask, but the lust was too strong. The timing was not right. Asking would definitely cause a fight. So she could only take a deep breath and said, as if she was pouting, “… Hurry.”
Lin Yanqing chuckled. “You’re so selfish.”
Her mouth didn’t stop, and neither did her other parts. Wen Yu died and then came back to life. When she came to her senses again, she found her hands being held down, and Lin Yanqing was sitting on her.
Wen Yu squinted.
She watched the woman swaying on top of her. Strands of wet hair stuck to her face. It was hard to tell if it was water from not drying her hair or sweat. In any case, it smelled wonderful and was incredibly decadent.
The night lasted until dawn.
Before Wen Yu fell asleep, she thought to herself that the guest room was just for the purpose of keeping things dry and wet separate.
…
The next day, when Wen Yu woke up and went downstairs, Lin Yanqing had already left on the early high-speed train for work. There was only a note on the dining table.
It read: The food is in the insulated box. Remember to heat it up before you eat.
Wen Yu’s back and legs were sore. She muttered unhappily, “Isn’t this woman tired?”
She put the note in her pocket, shuffled in her slippers, and opened the insulated box. She slowly heated up her breakfast.
While eating breakfast, Wen Yu sorted out her emotional and sexual logic.
—She wasn’t the mistress. Why should she feel disgusted about sleeping with her own wife? Lin Yanqing and the mistress should be the ones feeling disgusted. It was only right that Lin Yanqing served her and made her feel good.
Besides, Lin Yanqing was a total catch. With her looks, she wasn’t at a disadvantage.
But the divorce still had to happen.
After eating, Wen Yu was nestled on the sofa and chatted with the lawyer she had contacted before about the divorce. The lawyer said that the definition of one party cheating in a divorce case was not clear, and many pieces of evidence couldn’t be used, but there was a lot of room for maneuver in other areas, depending on Wen Yu’s needs.
Wen Yu didn’t have many needs. Even if the court didn’t rule that Lin Yanqing had cheated in the end and she didn’t get a large compensation, in the eyes of both families, it was a done deal that Lin Yanqing had wronged her.
That was enough.
Wen Yu was raised with love and wouldn’t be taken advantage of. The rest could be handled by her family.
The lawyer didn’t know about Wen Yu’s plan. He just said that he would draft a divorce agreement later and send it to Wen Yu for her review, adding a note: The more evidence you have, the more it will benefit you.
This meant she had to find some explosive information, such as catching them in the act or proof of transferred assets.
Wen Yu looked at the line of text, thought for a long time, and then booked a high-speed train ticket to Jingnan for the nearest available time.
What if Lin Yanqing was meeting her mistress in Jingnan? She would follow and see. Maybe there would be some unexpected surprises.
…
Wen Yu regretted it the moment she stepped onto the ground in Jingnan.
Standing in the huge high-speed train station, there were various exits in front of her. Going out led to taxis, going in led to the subway, and a little further was the bus stop. The place was interconnected, and she could go wherever she wanted.
But Wen Yu had no idea where Lin Yanqing was.
The top 100 creator event was at a hotel, but Wen Yu knew that Lin Yanqing definitely wouldn’t stay there. The hotel would be full of creators, too noisy, and it would be easy to get into a shot, which was troublesome.
Wen Yu didn’t have the ability to find people from a distance, nor could she ask directly. She could only squat on an empty piece of land at the high-speed train station entrance, feeling depressed, and at one point, she wanted to hire a private investigator to check Lin Yanqing’s hotel records.
Wen Yu hesitated again and again, but eventually gave up on the idea.
She browsed through various apps and finally opened Weibo.
Lin Yanqing had a Weibo account, but she didn’t post much. Wen Yu was too lazy to look at it. This time, she wanted to find her, so she came to see if there were any clues.
This year, Lin Yanqing had only posted a few times. Other than the official automatic birthday wishes, most of them were reposts of promotional posts. Only one was an original post, and it was posted two hours ago.
There was no text, only a live photo of a street sign.
The street sign was for a street that most cities had—Zhongshan East Road.
The dark blue sign was hidden in the light and shadow of the plane trees. The light and shadow flowed. The intense golden sunlight surged. The strong heat of midsummer suddenly poured out from the flat pixels. Wen Yu looked at it in a daze.
This street sign was very familiar.
She and Lin Yanqing graduated from Beichen High School. Beichen was famous for its balance of work and play and its rich extracurricular activities. The main focus was a free academic atmosphere, so they would have activities from time to time, such as Model UN and summer camps.
During a summer vacation after a small argument, Wen Yu was bored and signed up for a summer camp. The summer camp was co-hosted with Jingnan University High School, so they stayed in Jingnan for half a month.
Lin Yanqing also signed up. During the summer camp, the two of them barely had any interaction. It was only at the end when they were taking a group photo that the teacher asked Lin Yanqing to stand next to Wen Yu.
They had their first eye contact at the end of the summer camp.
At that time, in front of the teacher, Wen Yu was too lazy to care about where they stood. She was uncharacteristically well-behaved and stood with Lin Yanqing.
After the group photo was taken, the teacher let them have half an hour of free time and told them not to go far.
A group of high school students with boundless energy were taking photos everywhere. The cicadas chirped from the plane trees, and laughter occasionally echoed in between. Wen Yu was pulled along, stepping on fallen plane tree leaves, and stood under the tree shadows, taking photos with her friends.
“Chen Yuan! Come here!”
“Coming!”
Chen Yuan was the girl next to Wen Yu. She responded while pulling Wen Yu into a jog.
Wen Yu pressed her hand to her chest and barely kept up.
The person who called Chen Yuan was the class leader. The class leader smiled and pointed to a street sign, saying, “You stand here. I’ll take a picture of you.”
Chen Yuan’s eyes narrowed into a smile. “Okay.”
Wen Yu stood to the side, as quiet as a porcelain doll. Her lips were a little pale.
It was at this time that Lin Yanqing walked up behind her. The girl was tall and slender. She carried an air of indifference in the hot summer air and handed her a glass of cold water.
When Wen Yu looked at her, she said, “Honey water.”
Wen Yu frowned.
Lin Yanqing added, “Auntie asked me to give it to you.”
Wen Yu’s mom would indeed ask Lin Yanqing to take care of her troublesome daughter. Wen Yu was used to it.
She took the cup without saying a word.
After taking the photo, Chen Yuan happily pulled Wen Yu over. “Let’s take one together.”
Wen Yu stood still. Chen Yuan held her hand and made a heart shape. A little smile appeared on her face.
Chen Yuan: “Come on, come on, let me take a solo picture of Wen Wen.”
Wen Yu was pushed under the sign by Chen Yuan. The latter took out her phone and looked for various angles, determined to take a picture with a perfect composition.
The class leader laughed. “With Wen Wen’s face, she looks good no matter how you take it.”
Chen Yuan didn’t listen. While marveling at Wen Yu’s face, she snapped away. In the end, she picked out the one she was most satisfied with and showed it to Wen Yu.
Wen Yu held the cup and rested her chin on Chen Yuan’s shoulder. She looked at it half-heartedly.
Under the blue sign with white letters stood a high school student in a dark purple school uniform. She was smiling at the camera. A strand of her hair was lifted by the breeze. The whole person was uncharacteristically quiet.
“As expected, when Wen Wen is quiet, she has a goddess-like vibe,” Chen Yuan sighed.
Wen Yu pinched her waist.
Chen Yuan laughed and ran away, sending the photo to Wen Yu.
The street sign in that photo was the exact same one as the one Lin Yanqing posted on Weibo.
Wen Yu’s thoughts returned. She opened her photo album.
She had changed phones a few times after graduation, but she had backed up all the important photos. She opened the folder named “First High School” and found that photo.
This was the first time Wen Yu had looked at this photo carefully.
Only then did she notice that behind the floating strand of hair, there was a blurry figure.
That person was wearing a dark purple school uniform with long hair draped over her shoulders. Their face was unclear, but Wen Yu still recognized her. It was Lin Yanqing from a few years ago.
Was Lin Yanqing in the shot at that time? Wen Yu didn’t remember.
Why did Lin Yanqing take a picture of this sign? Could it be that the summer camp was also an unforgettable memory for her?
Wen Yu tightened her grip on her phone and took a taxi to Zhongshan East Road.
Zhongshan East Road was in the city. The once new street sign was now rusty. The letters “Rd” had rusted into “Pd.” The white pole was wrapped in a climbing vine.
Wen Yu stood under the street sign. The scorching sun made her eyes a little dizzy, and the fire of excitement she had was also extinguished quite a bit.
She had found the street sign in a daze, but she still had no idea where Lin Yanqing was.
So annoying.
There was a hotel nearby. Wen Yu walked in with a sullen face, dragging her suitcase, and booked a room.
After entering the room, Wen Yu collapsed onto the bed. She had barely been there for a while when hunger took over. It was dinner time, and the buffet restaurant on the top floor was open. Wen Yu grabbed her phone and took the elevator up.
There weren’t many people in the restaurant. Wen Yu sat behind two girls who seemed to be tourists and were discussing their next plans.
“The top 100 creator event seems to be around here. Do you think we’ll run into any creators if we go?”
“Speaking of which, I suspect a beautiful woman I talked to this morning is a top 100 creator!” The girl said, “I heard her on the phone talking about the top 100 event. It’s her style!”
The girl shook her head. “Let’s go check out the area around the event. If we happen to run into that beautiful woman, I’ll say we’re meant to be, and then I can smoothly ask for her contact information!”
“What a sneaky plan,” her friend tsked.
The girl snorted. “That’s because you haven’t seen her. The moment I saw her, my gaydar went crazy. Do you understand the value of a long-haired, elegant beauty?”
Wen Yu slowly took a bite of her pumpkin pie, thinking to herself, a long-haired, elegant beauty. She understood. Her nominal wife was exactly like that.
If only Lin Yanqing wasn’t so annoying, Wen Yu would have fallen head over heels for this woman’s beauty.
“Oh, right. Her last name is Lin,” the girl cupped her face. “I heard the front desk lady call her Miss Lin.”
Wen Yu choked.
“Look at you, you silly thing,” her friend said with disdain. “So you talked to her, but you didn’t even get her name or contact information, huh?”
“You don’t understand. It’s called not being too hasty,” the girl retorted.
Her friend: “Whatever makes you happy.”
The girl: “…”
The other side went quiet. Wen Yu took a sip of water to clear her throat. She thought for a moment and looked up the location of the top 100 event’s hotel.
She also decided to try her luck like that girl.
…
The event venue was not far from here, but it was a bit roundabout. It was a one-kilometer walk, but Wen Yu was the type of person who would rather sit than stand. She would even take a taxi for a one-kilometer walk, even if it meant going an extra two kilometers.
As soon as she got out of the car, Wen Yu’s face fell as she saw the sea of people.
There was an event sign at the hotel entrance, as well as a signature wall. There were many people lined up to enter. It was probably creators bringing their families and everyone involved in their business, such as photographers and business partners.
Wen Yu had never stood in line for anything since she was a child. She immediately wanted to back out and turn to leave.
To hell with Lin Yanqing and her little lover. It was exhausting. Whoever wanted to bust them could. She wasn’t doing it anymore.
At this moment, a team of creators walked past her. One of the girls complained, “There are so many people.”
Another girl said, “Since we’re already here, let’s go.”
Wen Yu’s footsteps paused. “…”
What a magical four-word phrase.
Miss Wen stood there, contemplating life. She finally humbled herself, lifted her feet, and walked towards the main entrance.
…
After waiting in line for ten minutes, Wen Yu really wanted to just call Lin Yanqing and have her arrange a fast-pass work badge for her. But thinking about her purpose for this trip, she held back.
Finally, it was Wen Yu’s turn. The staff member checking people in asked as a matter of routine, “Please show me your invitation.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Hiss, she had forgotten about that.
The staff member saw that Wen Yu wasn’t moving and looked at her with a hint of confusion. “Excuse me, are you accompanying a creator? Then you have to go in with the creator. You can’t go in alone.”
Wen Yu tsked. Her mind quickly came up with a compromise.
She said, “Wait a moment. I’ll call someone over.”
Wen Yu moved to the side and made a call. A clear and gentle female voice came from the other side. “Young CEO Wen?”
“Assistant Zhang, can you come to the entrance and pick me up?” Wen Yu said. “Don’t tell your boss.”
Zhang Cheng: “?”
Five minutes later, Zhang Cheng found Wen Yu, who was about to melt from the sun, at the entrance. He didn’t ask why Wen Yu was here or why she didn’t tell Lin Yanqing she was coming. He just said, “Young CEO Wen, please follow me this way.”
Wen Yu, half-dead, followed Zhang Cheng through the internal staff passage. The group of creators who were still waiting in line looked over. She could vaguely hear someone discussing which creator she was and why she had someone to pick her up.
The internal passage led directly to the back of the hotel banquet hall. Everyone was busy, and no one noticed Wen Yu.
Zhang Cheng: “I’ll take you to a private room to rest.”
Wen Yu nodded and obediently followed. She was so dizzy from the sun that her energy had dropped a lot. She was too lazy to even lift her head.
The two of them turned a corner and ran into a group of people who were walking briskly.
The leader was giving out assignments. She casually looked up, and her voice suddenly stopped.
The subordinates behind her didn’t understand what happened. They followed their leader’s gaze and looked at a woman.
Wen Yu noticed the gaze. She was a little confused. She looked up and met Lin Yanqing’s inquisitive eyes.
Wen Yu: “…”
Oh, no. She was screwed.
At this moment, Zhang Cheng silently pushed up his glasses.
Young CEO Wen only said not to tell CEO Lin, but she didn’t say it was not okay to “coincidentally” run into CEO Lin. Zhang Cheng knew the priorities. Of course, the person who paid him was the highest priority.
Lin Yanqing took a step forward. Her eyelids were slightly lowered. She didn’t say anything.
Wen Yu was about to say something to cover up, but her attention was attracted by the hair tie on Lin Yanqing’s wrist—Lin Yanqing had used this hair tie to tie up her hair with one hand last night.
This detail broke Lin Yanqing’s usual cold and dignified demeanor outside. It was a contradiction, yet it fit perfectly. Wen Yu felt a subtle sense of peeping pleasure, as if she finally realized that she had seen Lin Yanqing’s other, more private side.
But this thought only flashed through her mind. Wen Yu knew that the mistress who was in the middle of them must have also seen Lin Yanqing like that.
So annoying.
Wen Yu’s thoughts were all on her face. Lin Yanqing found her expression unpredictable and a little funny. She felt an urge to touch her, so she reached out and pinched Wen Yu’s ear.
Lin Yanqing: “Where is your soul? Can’t you talk when you see someone?”
