How About A Divorce? - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: The Unspoken Rule [VIP]
The book was too wild, and Wen Yu would stop reading every few minutes. When Chen Yu’an came back in the evening, she saw someone with her butt in the air, lying on the sofa looking at her phone.
As soon as she heard Chen Yu’an, she immediately flipped her phone over.
Chen Yu’an: “?”
She sneered. “Weren’t you supposed to be with Xie Shu tonight? Why are you back?”
Chen Yu’an walked over and crossed her arms, scrutinizing her. “Are you reading some kind of marriage book again?”
“No,” Wen Yu said, her words completely unconvincing.
“Why are you in this position?”
She’s acting like she’s having a spasm.
“Stretching,” Wen Yu said.
She couldn’t possibly say that she was reading so much that her neck hurt and she was worried about getting a dowager’s hump, so she was trying to bend her neck back.
“Where’s Xie Shu?”
“Her sister came. She left with her sister,” Wen Yu said honestly.
“Tsk, alright.”
Chen Yu’an sat down and stretched her shoulders. “I’m done with everything for the past few days. I’ll just stay here and watch you.”
“Why are you watching me?”
“Don’t think I don’t know that you have a GPS on your feet. Your heart is eager to go back, isn’t it?”
Wen Yu: “…”
She accused her. “What happened to basic trust between people?”
“There’s no trust between people and lovesick idiots.”
“I’m not a lovesick idiot.”
“Yeah, right.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Chen Yu’an saw her defiant expression and said, “Then give me your phone. I want to see what you were just looking at.”
Wen Yu: “…Just casually looking.”
Chen Yu’an understood. “Heh.”
Just as she was about to scold Wen Yu, her phone rang.
“Hmm?” Wen Yu answered. “Director Shi, what a surprise to hear from you.”
Shi Li: “We’re done filming. Yuan Yiyang and I are back in Northern City. Want to get together?”
“Sure. Who’s all going?”
“It’s just the two of us from my side. You can bring whoever you want. It’s not a business dinner,” Shi Li said.
Chen Yu’an, who had been listening, whispered, “Do you want to go to our new clubhouse?”
“Is it private?”
“You can doubt anything but that,” Chen Yu’an patted her chest.
“Then I’ll bring one person. We’ll go to her clubhouse,” Wen Yu said to Shi Li.
Shi Li: “Alright.”
Chen Yu’an’s eyes darted around. “Bring two.”
Wen Yu: “?”
Chen Yu’an: “I want to bring someone too.”
Wen Yu: “Okay.”
Wen Yu told Shi Li about it. Shi Li said it was fine as long as they didn’t take any pictures.
After hanging up, Wen Yu briefly told Chen Yu’an who Shi Li and Yuan Yiyang were.
Chen Yu’an “ooh-ed.” “I’ve seen the short dramas they’ve filmed.”
“You have that hobby?”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m guessing she’ll bring up investing in the next show. I’ll listen. If I’m interested, I’ll invest too.”
“Alright,” Wen Yu said, then asked, “By the way, who are you bringing?”
“Xie Shu.”
Wen Yu: “?”
She’s not giving up.
“We’re just going to chat,” Chen Yu’an raised an eyebrow. “Her qualifications are really good.”
Wen Yu decided not to argue and wait to surprise her later—with the fact that the Xie family was involved in a pseudo-incestuous relationship.
…
Two days later, they set a time and place.
Chen Yu’an and Wen Yu arrived first. Little CEO Chen had everything ready, waiting for the others. Soon, Shi Li walked in with a fully-equipped Yuan Yiyang.
Shi Li smiled. “CEO Wen.”
Yuan Yiyang began to strip off her layers—first her hat, then her sunglasses, then her mask, and finally her jacket.
She complained, “Don’t paparazzi have a real job?”
Wen Yu: “Taking pictures of you is a real job. Come sit down.”
“This must be CEO Chen,” Shi Li immediately went into social mode. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Director Shi, I’ve seen your show. It’s so good! I was hooked!” Chen Yu’an was equally impressive.
The two of them went back and forth with polite talk for a few minutes. Wen Yu couldn’t stand it anymore. “Stop with the pleasantries. Let’s eat and drink. Everyone, relax. We’re just making friends.”
Yuan Yiyang knew that this dinner was essentially not about her—Chen Yu’an was Wen Yu’s person, so she couldn’t bypass Wen Yu to make connections. It would easily backfire. So she just focused on eating. “I can finally eat a full meal without worrying.”
“Did Shi Li abuse you in the crew?” Wen Yu asked.
“No, but you always have to control your body during filming.” Yuan Yiyang picked up a mung bean pastry and only took a small bite. “Sang Xiaoyun was sent to acting class by Director Shi, so she didn’t come.”
“Shi Li told me,” Wen Yu nodded. “These are just appetizers. You can have some to fill up. When everyone is here, the main dishes will be served.”
“The child has a lot of potential,” Shi Li interjected.
“That’s thanks to your guidance,” Wen Yu said with a laugh.
Shi Li accepted it completely. “You flatter me. After all, she’s CEO Wen’s person.”
The two of them looked at each other and laughed.
Wen Yu: “Can we all just talk normally?”
Chen Yu’an: “You’re the one with all the demands.”
Shi Li agreed. “Miss Wen has a lot of demands.”
The three of them laughed again.
Yuan Yiyang asked about a certain topic.
The door was pushed open. Chen Yu’an smiled. “They’re here.”
Xie Shu swaggered in.
She was dressed casually in a vest and cargo pants, with no makeup on. She was full of youthful energy.
Wen Yu asked Yuan Yiyang, “Have you two met?”
Yuan Yiyang nodded. “We met once at an event.”
“The third daughter of the Xie family,” Wen Yu said. “She’s just playing around in the entertainment industry.”
Yuan Yiyang: “I’ve heard about her.”
They all had a good idea of who the well-connected people were, so they wouldn’t offend someone they shouldn’t.
After greeting each other, they sat down.
Xie Shu deliberately sat next to Wen Yu, put her hand on Wen Yu’s shoulder, and whispered in her ear, “Big sister, we meet again.”
Yuan Yiyang had seen too much in the industry and found the scene very familiar. She looked straight ahead and decided to be deaf and blind.
Chen Yu’an added fuel to the fire. “Someone’s talking to you, Wen Wen.”
Shi Li was curious. “Miss Xie and Wen Wen are close?”
She was just making small talk, like a hype man at a dinner party. But she didn’t expect to hear something big. Xie Shu said, “Yes. Big sister wants to be my sugar daddy and keep me as her canary.”
This one sentence almost made Shi Li choke.
Yuan Yiyang patted her back to help her breathe.
Wen Yu turned her head to look at Xie Shu. “Are you excited to be a sugar baby?”
“Excited,” Xie Shu said with a charming smile. “I’ve always earned money on my own. I’ve never tried anything else. Big sister, would you fulfill my wish?”
Wow.
Shi Li decided to pretend to be dead with Yuan Yiyang.
Wen Yu calmly moved Xie Shu’s hand away and killed the vibe. “I have your sister’s contact information.”
Xie Shu: “…”
Xie Shu stopped smiling. She behaved herself.
Chen Yu’an was confused. “Are you afraid of your sister?”
She doesn’t seem like it.
Wen Yu answered for her. “She’s not just afraid of her.”
“…Okay, shut up,” Xie Shu stood up and sulkily switched seats with Shi Li. “I’m not going to flirt anymore, okay, sis?”
She went from “big sister” to “sis.”
“You’ve grown so much,” Wen Yu sneered.
“You’ve grown so much. Your wife was kissing you on the sofa,” Xie Shu exposed her secret.
Wen Yu: “…”
Chen Yu’an bristled. “What?! When? Wen, did you go see Lin Yanqing behind my back?”
“…She came to me. I’m innocent.”
“You better explain yourself when we get back,” Chen Yu’an glared at Wen Yu.
Wen Yu was at a disadvantage and didn’t want to let anyone else off the hook. So she said, “I wonder who it was, crying pitifully, wanting to leave with her sister, begging her sister not to abandon her.”
Xie Shu: “…”
Xie Shu took a sip of tea, pretending not to understand.
Everyone’s eyes darted around, finally landing on the suspect, with a look on their faces that said, “This cool chick has a hidden side!”
Xie Shu put down her teacup, her expression unchanged.
Wen Yu chuckled. “It’s not me, anyway. Who could it be? So hard to guess.”
Xie Shu: “…”
So annoying. People who are older are so conniving.
“Let’s eat,” Shi Li said, playing peacemaker.
At the dinner table, they talked about some funny stories. Their relationship got a lot closer over the meal. They exchanged contact information and agreed to get together again if they had a chance.
“What’s your plan for the next show?” Wen Yu asked proactively. Shi Li was also quick to respond. “It’s a legal drama. The script is still being polished, but it’s guaranteed to be profitable.”
Yuan Yiyang: “I’ll be working with Director Shi again. Don’t worry, it’ll be a hit.”
Chen Yu’an appreciated Yuan Yiyang’s attitude. “Very confident.”
“At its core, it’s a business. If I don’t have this much confidence, how can I even talk to you all?”
“I like that,” Chen Yu’an said. “I’m in.”
Shi Li was surprised. “CEO Chen, don’t you want to consider it more?”
“No need,” Chen Yu’an waved her hand. “I’m investing in you personally. The amount won’t be huge, so don’t put all your eggs in my basket.”
She gestured with her lips toward Wen Yu.
Wen Yu smiled. “Anyway, Comrade Chen has already got half of it covered for you. You can start preparing. I’ll see how the last show does online. If it’s good, I’ll double my investment.”
Shi Li smiled. “CEO Wen, you’re so generous.”
“You can never have too much money,” Wen Yu said. “We can consider a long-term partnership in the future. If you’re okay with it, we can just do a contract.”
“Wow,” Chen Yu’an said, surprised. “Are you finally getting serious about making money? I thought you were just playing around.”
“You need money to be a sugar daddy to a canary, right? If I use my mom’s money, I’ll be beaten to death. I can’t let someone follow me and live in poverty,” Wen Yu said nonchalantly.
Chen Yu’an: “?”
She looked at Xie Shu—who shook her head, indicating it wasn’t her—and then back at Wen Yu. “You have someone in mind?”
Shi Li remained outwardly calm, but she was thinking, Did Lin Yanqing not keep her in check?
Wen Yu: “Sort of, but I haven’t decided yet.”
Chen Yu’an was happy. “Do whatever you want. I support you! Who is it? Who is it?”
Wen Yu didn’t dare to tell the truth, afraid that Chen Yu’an would kill her to keep her quiet. She just said vaguely, “She might not be willing, and she’s in a good position herself.”
“Then take your time. I don’t necessarily want you to find someone else. I just want you to distract yourself. As long as you don’t hang yourself on that crooked tree, Lin Yanqing, it’s all good,” Chen Yu’an said with relief.
Wen Yu: “…”
She nervously took a sip of tea.
Yuan Yiyang was confused by the whole conversation. Her phone suddenly vibrated, pulling her out of her gossip-listening mode.
It was her manager.
“Sister Liu?” Yuan Yiyang listened for a bit, then frowned. “I was photographed?”
She put on her headphones and clicked on the trending topic.
Sister Liu said on the other end, “Although you were completely covered, Director Shi’s pink hair is too eye-catching. The paparazzi knew that the person next to her was you.”
Yuan Yiyang scanned the page, seeing many fans defending her. “Hmm, it shouldn’t be a big problem. I wasn’t out with her alone. There were others at the dinner. I’ll just post a Weibo to explain.”
Sister Liu: “…Xiao Yuan.”
“What is it?”
“From an experienced person’s perspective, I want to give you some advice. I know you want to climb the ladder, but Shi Li isn’t someone you can control. She’s in this position at her age… Be careful not to get hurt by her.”
Yuan Yiyang subconsciously looked at Shi Li.
Shi Li smiled slightly. “Is the problem serious?”
Yuan Yiyang shook her head and said to the phone, “I know. You don’t have to worry. Let the PR team handle it. I’ll hang up now.”
Shi Li saw her take off her headphones and said, “Being photographed isn’t a big deal. You came with me, not on a date with a celebrity.”
Yuan Yiyang: “…Mhm.”
Xie Shu: “Do you need me to step in and help you explain?”
Yuan Yiyang put on a smile. “My company will release a statement to clarify. If it’s not too much trouble, could you please repost it for me, Miss Xie?”
Xie Shu: “No problem.”
Yuan Yiyang looked at her phone, subconsciously refreshing the page, and suddenly froze.
A new topic was trending.
#QiantuZeroOneCEO#
Qiantu was an A-list star.
Yuan Yiyang clicked on it, and the latest post was a video.
Wen Yu saw that Yuan Yiyang hadn’t moved and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Yuan Yiyang knew she couldn’t hide it, so she handed the phone over, still leaving some room for doubt. “Wen Wen, is this CEO Lin?”
Wen Yu took the phone, dragged the video to the beginning, and started watching. The air pressure around her dropped as she watched.
The others also noticed something was wrong and clicked on the trending topic.
In the video, Qiantu was seen taking Lin Yanqing into a hotel. The paparazzi were very professional, showing the results of their candid shots from multiple angles—the two entered a room, and Qiantu pulled the curtains shut.
