How About A Divorce? - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: The Divorce Agreement [VIP]
Wen Yu stared at the phone screen.
The video had been on loop for three times. Chen Yu’an couldn’t watch anymore and reached out to turn off the screen. “Stop watching.”
“When was this video filmed?” Wen Yu’s voice was unusually calm.
Yuan Yiyang’s voice was low, as if afraid of startling her. “Around six o’clock this afternoon.”
It was eight o’clock now.
“Two hours, that’s not right,” Shi Li said. “Were the paparazzi following Qiantu or were they specifically targeting Lin Yanqing?”
Wen Yu tapped her finger on the table. “That’s what I’m thinking about too.”
Paparazzi need to eat. Following and taking candid photos is a profession, not a hobby. Exposing a scandal like this doesn’t benefit them. The normal process is to first contact the celebrity’s studio. If they pay to make it go away, they sign a contract, and the matter is over. If the celebrity doesn’t pay enough, they’ll consider exposing it. They have their own set of procedures.
If it involves a sugar daddy, it’s even easier to handle. These people are less willing to get caught up in public opinion than celebrities.
Lin Yanqing isn’t some unknown person. She’s a fat sheep. A smart paparazzo would first contact Zero One’s PR team. A clever one would go straight to Wen Yu and extort a huge sum. They wouldn’t impulsively release a video worth millions of dollars.
And what kind of paparazzo is so audacious as to bypass Zero One’s PR and release a scandal like this?
The setup is too obvious.
Yuan Yiyang: “There must be something fishy going on.”
After saying that, she was confused. “Who would target CEO Lin? She doesn’t have any rivals. This kind of scandal can be cleared up easily. It’s so unnecessary.”
“But she has competitors,” Xie Shu answered. “Those old people are much more ruthless than the small-time fighting in the entertainment industry. This might just be the beginning.”
Wen Yu had already stood up. “That’s enough for tonight. I’m going back now.”
Xie Shu and she were on the same page. Wen Yu remembered Chen Liangsheng’s meaningful “Be careful of the person beside you” from a few days ago… The answer was laid out on the table. There must be a next move.
“I’ll drive you,” Chen Yu’an said.
Shi Li: “If you need any help, just ask.”
Yuan Yiyang also said, “If you need a clarification, I can help repost it.”
“Thank you,” Wen Yu waved her hand. “See you later.”
She didn’t expect anyone to be able to help.
She might not have eaten pork, but she had seen a pig run. So many people have fallen victim to setups. Wen Yu still remembered a certain young playboy who was taken down by a bastard son using this trick. The woman was hired by the bastard son and was very professional. She got pregnant with the young master’s child, didn’t tell him, and went straight to the company’s headquarters to hang banners, causing a huge scene. The playboy was never seen again. Wen Yu suspected that Lin Yanqing was being plotted against by Chen Liangsheng in a similar way.
Except the path was different. Qiantu was probably just an insignificant fuse.
In the car, Wen Yu called Lin Yanqing. No one answered. It went to voicemail.
Wen Yu frowned and called a second time. Same result.
“You can’t get through?” Chen Yu’an asked.
Wen Yu: “Mhm. I’ll try calling her assistant.”
This time, the call was answered quickly.
“CEO Wen?” Zhang Cheng’s voice sounded exhausted.
“Where’s Lin Yanqing?” Wen Yu asked directly.
The other end was silent for a few seconds. “CEO Lin’s situation is complicated right now. She’s temporarily in isolation for investigation, and all her communication devices have been confiscated.”
“What?” Wen Yu frowned. “Don’t hang up yet.”
After saying that, she turned on the speakerphone and opened the trending topics. Sure enough, a new one was at the top: #Zero One CEO Lin Yanqing Economic Criminal#
The wording was very impolite, nailing her to the pillar of shame.
Chen Yu’an glanced at it while waiting at a red light and was shocked by the description. “Oh my god.”
Wen Yu calmly scrolled down and saw Qiantu’s statement clarifying her relationship with Lin Yanqing.
Qiantu’s studio released a statement, saying that today’s meeting with CEO Lin was just a normal business discussion and that there were no other relationships. They would reserve the right to pursue legal action against the rumormongers.
The people below, who were initially attracted by the scandal, ended up getting a juicy scoop on Zero One. Everyone loved a good show and demanded that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation.
“You see,” Zhang Cheng said, “This is an internal company matter. I can’t say much about the specifics, and the trending topics can’t be taken down.”
“Was Chen Liangsheng behind this?” Wen Yu asked.
Zhang Cheng: “More than just her.”
Wen Yu’s heart sank.
“Besides Chen Liangsheng’s faction, who else could it be?”
Zhang Cheng was in a difficult position. “Please don’t ask me. My phone is also being monitored right now.”
Wen Yu took a deep breath. “Okay.”
She hung up the phone.
Chen Yu’an was completely bewildered. “What’s going on?”
They just had a meal, and in the blink of an eye, so much had happened? Half an hour ago, it was a romantic scandal. Now, it was an economic war.
“Is the White Ant Capital in trouble?” Chen Yu’an asked.
Wen Yu hummed. “Lin Yanqing did have some structural changes recently.”
But who was the real mastermind?
Wen Yu searched her contacts, her fingers typing in “Lin Jiao.” She found the name and was annoyed for the first time.
If only she had given Lin Jiao a proper contact name, she wouldn’t have been so flustered.
When she saw “That person’s mom,” Wen Yu clicked “Call.”
Three seconds later, she only heard the “The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable” message.
Hearing this, she knew there was no need to call a second time.
“She must be in isolation for investigation,” Chen Yu’an said.
“Mhm.” Wen Yu had already seen the latest message on White Ant Capital’s official website. It was a short announcement: White Ant Capital will undergo major structural adjustments. Some senior executives are temporarily off duty to cooperate with the investigation.
“The movement is too fast,” she said.
“It was premeditated,” Chen Yu’an chimed in. “You just need to know who did it.”
“We can only confirm that Chen Liangsheng is involved,” Wen Yu said. “But judging by her assistant’s tone, there are others behind her.”
“Who else could there be? Chen Liangsheng couldn’t have conspired with outsiders for so long,” Chen Yu’an had also heard about this bigwig’s deeds. “Unless she’s a pig.”
White Ant Capital is not a small-time company. If Chen Liangsheng was cornered and collaborated with another company behind the board’s back, that would be completely idiotic.
“Yeah, who else could it be…” Wen Yu looked out the window. A name was almost at the tip of her tongue.
“…Could it be?” Chen Yu’an also thought of it.
“It’s very likely.”
“What’s in it for her?”
“I don’t know.” Wen Yu said, “But I don’t care.”
Wen Yu knew that things probably wouldn’t spiral out of control. Getting anxious was useless, so she opened the car window and took a few breaths of exhaust fumes. The disgusting smell made her much more clear-headed.
She called Wen Rong.
Wen Rong answered quickly. “I was just about to call you.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m on my way to Little Chen’s place. You’re staying there right now, right? Let’s talk in person.”
“Okay,” Wen Yu said.
Chen Yu’an: “We’ll be home in ten minutes.”
The two cars arrived at the garage almost at the same time.
After getting out of the car, Wen Yu walked toward Wen Rong’s car. “Sister.”
“Let’s go upstairs first.” Wen Rong came alone.
The three of them entered the elevator. Chen Yu’an said, “The side bedroom has no surveillance.”
Wen Rong: “Thank you.”
Chen Yu’an smiled. “You’re welcome, big sister.”
In the side bedroom.
Wen Yu followed Wen Rong in. The latter didn’t beat around the bush. “Wen Wen, I just sent you an email. Take a look.”
Wen Yu froze. She opened her email, clicked on the document, and inside was a draft of a Divorce Statement.
“What does this mean?” Her hand trembled, and she almost dropped her phone.
“It’s the literal meaning,” Wen Rong’s voice was still calm. “You and I both know about Lin Yanqing’s situation right now. No matter what the reason is, this isn’t something that can be resolved overnight.”
“So?”
“So, to not affect the Wen family’s stock price, you two need to release a divorce statement,” Wen Rong said. “The property division can be postponed for now. There’s no rush to deal with it.”
“Did Lin Yanqing agree to this?”
“Does it matter if she agrees?” Wen Rong smiled. “She can’t even protect herself.”
“White Ant Capital has a problem. Someone reported that Lin Yanqing’s accounts are unclear and involve cross-border capital transfers. Many core members have been taken in for questioning. Even Zero One has been affected.”
“Our family won’t help?” Wen Yu’s voice was a little hoarse.
“Wen Yu,” Wen Rong said coldly, a hint of warning in her voice. “This matter has nothing to do with the Wen family.”
Wen Yu gripped her phone tightly.
“Your marriage was a business arrangement. When a disaster strikes, you each go your separate ways. You’re not even sure what your feelings are for Lin Yanqing, so don’t get hung up on it.”
“If you don’t cut it off, you’ll be in for more trouble,” Wen Rong knocked her knuckles on the table.
On the drafted divorce agreement, there was Lin Yanqing’s electronic signature.
If Wen Yu signed it, this marriage would be over.
She suddenly chuckled softly. “Lin Yanqing, you’re really something.”
Wen Rong: “Let me know when you’ve decided. You can sign it in front of the lawyer to make it official.”
“Did Lin Yanqing sign it the same way?” Wen Yu asked.
Wen Rong didn’t say anything that would hurt her feelings. She calmly explained, “No. There’s a clause in your prenuptial agreement that in the event one party is involved in a major economic crime, the other party has the right to dissolve the marriage directly. A copy of the divorce agreement with your name on it is also with Lin Yanqing.”
Wen Yu had completely forgotten about this.
Her emotions were now complicated.
Two divorce agreements, each with their own signature, were the footnote to their marriage.
All her previous actions now seemed like a joke.
“Sign it,” Wen Yu said softly.
Wen Rong was a little surprised. “Have you thought it through? I can give you one more day.”
“No need. We’re losing a lot of money in just one day.”
“You’re being sensible now, Wen Wen.”
Wen Yu didn’t reply. She just asked, “When will Lin Yanqing be released?”
Wen Rong didn’t know for sure.
She only knew that Lin Jiao would take this step. She hadn’t investigated the specific details and only found out when the matter blew up today—after all, it had nothing to do with her, so she didn’t pay much attention. She figured nothing big would happen to Lin Yanqing, but she didn’t plan to tell Wen Yu directly.
Wen Rong could see clearly that Wen Yu, this block of wood, was finally growing a brain. What was happening now might even be a good thing. At the very least, the two of them could start over and get to know each other without all the baggage.
“Just wait. What if she’s convicted?” Wen Rong asked casually.
“She won’t be. I trust Lin Yanqing.”
Putting character aside, Lin Yanqing wasn’t brainless. Even if she had done these things, she wouldn’t have left any evidence. Besides, it was obviously a setup.
Wen Rong clicked her tongue. “So confident in your ex-wife?”
“We’re not divorced yet. The lawyer isn’t here yet,” Wen Yu corrected her.
“She’ll be here any minute.”
Ten minutes later, Lawyer Zhang rushed over. Before she could even have a sip of water, she got the signed divorce agreement from Wen Yu.
“Release it,” Wen Yu said.
She looked at Wen Rong. “Sister, can you find out when Lin Yanqing will be released?”
Wen Rong sensed her intentions. “What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to pick up my ex-wife,” Wen Yu said. “And while I’m at it, I’ll ask her if she has any plans to make a comeback.”
