How About A Divorce? - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Hot Spring Experiments [VIP]
Wen Yu came out too quickly and asked so urgently that Shi Li was startled, thinking the secret was about to be revealed. It wasn’t that she couldn’t tell Wen Yu, but the words coming from her mouth were different from a confession from Lin Yanqing herself.
If she created a conflict between the couple, her sin would be great.
Shi Li was about to make up a story when she heard Lin Yanqing say, “Shi Li said my situation isn’t as bad as it seems, and that I’m just staying with you for free food and shelter.”
Lin Yanqing just blurted out the truth. In context, it made perfect sense. Shi Li thought Lin Yanqing was going to use this as a chance to come clean, but she didn’t expect her to follow up with, “Boss, she’s insulting me.”
Shi Li: “?”
What a disgusting tone.
Wen Yu’s gaze immediately turned to Shi Li, full of reproach. “Lin Yanqing’s situation is terrible. You don’t know what she’s been through.”
Shi Li: “…”
What has she been through? The blissful life of being a sugar baby to her sweetheart?
Lin Yanqing coughed lightly. “Never mind. I understand her. She works all year round and is just envious of my leisure time.”
Shi Li sneered. “Heh.”
Wen Yu nodded. “Director Shi, you do work hard.”
She didn’t even bother to hide the perfunctory tone in her voice.
Shi Li was defeated. “Goodbye, you two. I’m going to eat.”
Before she left, she rolled her eyes at Lin Yanqing.
A total friend-dumper who lies through her teeth.
When the others left, Wen Yu grabbed Lin Yanqing and went inside. “Rinse off and let’s go for a soak.”
Lin Yanqing followed behind Wen Yu, staring at the ends of her hair as they swung back and forth.
She had thought about telling Wen Yu about Lin Jiao’s plan these past few days, but that would dissolve the “unequal relationship” between them.
This “unequal relationship” was the foundation of their current harmonious and ambiguous state, embodied in the form of the sugar baby agreement.
All their intimacy was so natural because of it.
I’ll tell Wen Yu the truth when the situation is stable, Lin Yanqing thought. It’ll save her from worrying if I tell her now.
“You go rinse off first. I’ll order some food,” Wen Yu said.
When Lin Yanqing came out after her shower, half the table was filled with desserts and drinks, and the other half had wine and steak.
“Chen Yu’an sent them,” Wen Yu shrugged. “She said they’re new items and wanted me to try them.”
“You can’t have the wine. You can eat some of the beef, only one drink, and a maximum of one pudding,” Lin Yanqing said as she put everything away, leaving only a few items for Wen Yu.
“I’m your boss now,” Wen Yu said, displeased.
“Bosses also need to control their diet.”
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll dock your pay?”
“Go ahead,” Lin Yanqing’s eyelids drooped, looking a little pitiful. “It’s okay if I’m a little hungry. The boss’s health is the most important.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Where did she learn such conniving tactics?
Lin Yanqing continued, “I know what I say now is useless, and no one is there to support me. It’s only right that you don’t listen to me…”
“Stop!” Wen Yu raised her hand. “One more word, and I’ll slap you.”
Lin Yanqing’s eyelids lifted slightly, showing a hint of anticipation. “A reward?”
Wen Yu: “…”
Not only has she become more conniving, but she’s also become more brazen.
“I’m not eating anymore. Let’s go for a soak,” Wen Yu pulled open a door. Behind it was a small private hot spring. “Shut up and come here.”
The two of them got into the water together.
Wen Yu was only wearing a camisole. When it got wet, it didn’t hide much. Lin Yanqing only glanced at her before moving closer and wrapping her arms around the other’s waist. “You look good.”
Wen Yu was confused. “What looks good?”
Lin Yanqing took Wen Yu’s hand and placed it on her chest, adding in a low voice, “And it’s soft.”
Wen Yu: “…”
She really wanted to slap Lin Yanqing, but she was afraid it would make her feel even better.
How did this person get so out of control? She hasn’t been well-behaved at all these past few days.
Was her previous identity too much of a constraint on her nature?
Lin Yanqing asked, “Is the water here changed?”
Wen Yu: “The ones outside are natural hot springs. The indoor ones are changed by a machine.”
“How long can we soak?”
“A maximum of two hours.”
“That’s enough.”
Lin Yanqing kissed Wen Yu’s neck, but the latter pushed her away by the chin. “No.”
Lin Yanqing chuckled. “You always say that, but you’re always the one who enjoys it.”
Wen Yu: “…You’re so annoying.”
“Let’s try it. We haven’t tried it before,” Lin Yanqing coaxed. “I thought you brought me to the hot springs because you wanted to try this.”
“I don’t have a mind as filthy as yours.”
“Alright, I’m filthy,” Lin Yanqing felt something strange under her hand. She bit a piece of soft flesh and commented, “This hot spring water is a little bitter.”
…
Wen Yu lay on the soft mat, not understanding why things ended up like this again.
This canary was a little too fierce. When she got rowdy, she showed no mercy.
Lin Yanqing was drying her hair when her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up, and the relaxed look on her face vanished.
“It’s my mom,” Lin Yanqing said.
“Is she…”
“I’m not sure,” Lin Yanqing got up. “I’ll go out to take the call.”
Lin Yanqing hesitated.
Wen Yu raised an eyebrow. “Is it something you can’t talk about in front of me?”
Lin Yanqing said softly, “It’s not that I can’t. It’s just that there’s no need to. I’m afraid you’ll think I have a lot of secrets.”
“I do have a lot of secrets,” Lin Yanqing admitted. “I don’t like keeping things from you.”
Lin Yanqing definitely has something she’s hiding from me, Wen Yu thought.
Wen Yu was just stunned for a moment, then she waved her hand, a look of indifference on her face. “Then go outside.”
Lin Yanqing: “I’m sorry.”
Wen Yu waved her away. “It’s fine. Go ahead.”
Seeing that the call was about to be disconnected, Lin Yanqing went outside to answer it.
The hallway was empty. She walked to the end, letting the sound of the wind muffle their conversation. “Speak.”
Lin Jiao only spoke a few short sentences.
Lin Yanqing tiredly pressed her brow. “You can arrange it. Why do you need to ask me about this?”
After a moment, Lin Jiao said, “I’m sorry, Yanqing.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry about,” Lin Yanqing’s tone was calm. “Even though you did it for yourself, I also got something out of it. When you’re dead, all of this will be mine.”
Lin Jiao choked.
“Don’t talk about being guilty. If you’re really guilty, then do things more cleanly, so I don’t have to clean up after you.”
Lin Jiao: “…Is there nothing else you want to say to me?”
“Say what?”
“Don’t you blame me?”
“‘I blame you’ are two words that don’t respect my own will,” Lin Yanqing was very steady. She even took a moment to consider if her recent actions had upset Wen Yu. She then said, “This was our joint decision. If I were to blame you, I’d be giving you all the credit. What would that make my efforts?”
Lin Yanqing chuckled. “Don’t think too highly of yourself.”
Three seconds later, Lin Jiao hung up.
Lin Yanqing held her phone, exhaling deeply.
Perhaps it was because she was getting older and only had one daughter. After half a century, Lin Jiao was starting to think about the meaning of love and family and was putting these misplaced emotions onto Lin Yanqing. It was boring and meaningless.
The stage for a mother-daughter relationship should have been built from birth to adulthood so the play would make sense. Instead, she was suddenly trying to play the part of a doting mother when Lin Yanqing could handle a whole play by herself.
Lin Yanqing called Lin Jiao’s nutritionist. The phone was answered. “Miss Lin.”
“How has CEO Lin been eating recently?”
“CEO Lin is too busy and sometimes forgets to eat the meals that buffer her menopausal hormone fluctuations.”
“Remember to remind her every meal.”
“Yes, Miss Lin.”
After hanging up, Lin Yanqing felt that Lin Jiao probably wouldn’t call her with some vague excuse anytime soon.
It was just unstable hormones.
Before going back to the room, she mentally prepared an explanation for Wen Yu about the phone call. She imagined Wen Yu sulking, but when she opened the door, she saw that Wen Yu was indeed sullen, leaning against the wall.
When Wen Yu saw her, she suddenly sighed. “This is my life. Walking on eggshells, living in fear.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t understand. “…What?”
One phone call couldn’t have made her say something like that, could it?
“Maybe I’ve taken a piece of someone’s cake,” Wen Yu said with a bitter smile.
With that smile, Lin Yanqing noticed a white spot on her lips that hadn’t been wiped clean.
Lin Yanqing’s eyelids twitched. She looked at the low table with a small cake on it and twitched her lips. “Where’s the cake I put here?”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu scrambled up and walked outside. “I need to go to the bathroom.”
Lin Yanqing held her down. “There’s a toilet right here.”
Wen Yu gave up. “Fine, I ate the cake. So what? You can’t kill me for it.”
“It’s just a cake. I’m not going to eat you,” Lin Yanqing said helplessly. “Just wipe your mouth clean next time.”
Wen Yu held up a finger. “Then I’m going to eat another piece.”
“No.”
“Lin Yanqing!”
“Are you three? You’re eating so much.”
“Lin, you didn’t eat just now either.”
“That’s different.”
“How is it different?”
Lin Yanqing pulled Wen Yu into her arms. “The one I ate had warmth.”
Her eyes went over certain places on Wen Yu’s body.
The tips of Wen Yu’s ears immediately turned red.
She broke free from Lin Yanqing and walked outside. “I’m going to go play with Chen Yu’an. It’s a friends gathering tonight. It’ll be lively.”
Wen Yu looked back. “Are you coming?”
“Yes.”
“Then change your clothes. Stay with me tonight and don’t wander off.”
“Okay,” Lin Yanqing leaned on Wen Yu again. “I’ll be the boss’s little follower tonight.”
…
A hot spring gathering has its own vibe. It’s all young people. Everyone is dressed casually, and the conversations aren’t about business. They’re mostly about their own emotional lives.
It’s common for exes to run into each other here. After all, the circle is small.
Chen Yu’an had just heard some gossip and was sharing it with Wen Yu. “There was this brave person who stole her sister’s fiancée, but in the end, the fiancée got back with her sister. The brave person became a clown. Tsk tsk tsk.”
Wen Yu: “That fiancée must be very charming.”
Chen Yu’an: “Tell me about it.”
Lin Yanqing was dutifully peeling and feeding fruit to Wen Yu.
“Oh—” a woman walked over. She didn’t see Wen Yu whispering to Chen Yu’an. Her gaze fell only on Lin Yanqing. “Isn’t this CEO Lin?”
Lin Yanqing looked up and nodded in greeting. “Miss Wang.”
Wang Tian smiled. “The last time I saw you, CEO Lin, was a year ago. Do you remember?”
Lin Yanqing: “I’m a busy person. I’m forgetful.”
Wang Tian: “…?”
She wasn’t thrown off by the comment and continued, “Then let me remind you, you threw our bid document on the floor and called it trash. Do you remember that?”
Lin Yanqing sighed. “You said it yourself, it was trash. I don’t do trash sorting.”
Wang Tian was fuming.
Chen Yu’an, who had been listening in, nudged Wen Yu. “Your ex-wife is quite the talker, isn’t she?”
She had never seen this side of her before.
“Who would have dared to talk to her like that before? Now all kinds of demons have appeared, and she’s just letting herself go,” Wen Yu said calmly.
“Aren’t you going to do something about it?” Chen Yu’an asked.
“Let her vent for a bit,” Wen Yu commented. “It seems she’s been holding back around me.”
Chen Yu’an had a look of disapproval.
Is the way you two get along even on the same channel as normal people?
Wang Tian had thought she could get the upper hand with her words and kick Lin Yanqing while she was down. No one would blame her, and she could get revenge for her past self. She hadn’t expected the peacock to be even sharper after losing its feathers. She couldn’t win at all.
Lin Yanqing: “If you have nothing else to say, Miss Wang, please leave. Standing here is affecting the air quality.”
Wang Tian had a body odor problem. She had surgery, but it still had a faint smell up close. No one had dared to mention it to her all these years. When Lin Yanqing suddenly exposed her secret, she was filled with rage.
She picked up a fruit knife from the side and pointed it at Lin Yanqing. “Lin, you think you’re still some kind of golden nugget?!”
