How About A Divorce? - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Falling in Love [VIP]
Lin Yanqing was sitting in a booth, her long legs propped up. She was wearing a simple white T-shirt and jeans, and she held a glass of wine in her right hand.
Only a shallow layer of whiskey had been drunk, and the ice ball was melting faster than she was drinking.
The bar’s lighting was dim, making her expression look cool and indifferent, and making the smug look on Zheng Xin’s face seem especially glaring.
Zheng Xin had happened to return to the country. After some inquiries, she found out that Lin Yanqing was divorced and had been dumped. She had rushed over to watch the drama unfold and had dragged Lin Yanqing to the bar where she could speak her mind freely.
“Tsk,” Zheng Xin shook her glass, and the ice cubes clinked. “Were you really kicked out? Wen Yu is that ruthless?”
Lin Yanqing couldn’t be bothered to even lift her eyelids. Her fingertip traced a wet line on the cold glass. “She was angry.”
“Oh, oh, oh, she was angry,” Zheng Xin laughed loudly. “Lin Yanqing, you finally got what you deserved.”
Lin Yanqing finally glanced at her. “I’ll be back in a few days. She can’t bear to be without me.”
Zheng Xin didn’t hide her mockery. “So confident. I don’t have high hopes for you.”
“You don’t understand,” Lin Yanqing said without changing her expression. She took a sip of wine. The spiciness slid down her throat, setting the stuffiness in her chest on fire. “She just needs a little time to calm down.”
“How long does she need to calm down? Until she forgets you even exist?” Zheng Xin pouted. “And you were the one who hid things from her, right? You tricked Wen Yu. Shouldn’t you be rushing to coax her?”
Lin Yanqing: “She needs to calm down first. She really doesn’t want to see me.”
Zheng Xin tsked. “Pathetic.”
Her phone screen suddenly lit up in the dim light. It was a message from Zhang Cheng.
[CEO Lin, I have the key. Should I send it to you now?]
Lin Yanqing sent her the bar’s address.
Zheng Xin glanced at it. “What key?”
“The apartment,” Lin Yanqing said. “I just rented it for a month.”
Zheng Xin was surprised. “You’re going to let Wen Yu calm down by herself for a month?!”
She’ll probably be gone by then.
“Of course not,” Lin Yanqing didn’t explain further. “I’m not an idiot.”
It was just the first time they had fought so fiercely, and it was also the first time Lin Yanqing had pushed her so hard. She didn’t know how long it would take Wen Yu to figure out her own feelings, and she couldn’t guarantee that the answer Wen Yu came up with would be the one she was looking for. During this time, she needed a place to stay.
Her account couldn’t be used, and Wen Yu’s card wasn’t easy to use. She couldn’t even stay in a hotel, so she had to have Zhang Cheng handle it.
As they were talking, a tall woman holding a glass of wine gracefully walked over, stopping right beside Lin Yanqing with a clear purpose. Her red lips curled into a smile. “Hi, can I buy you a drink?”
Her eyes were busy, too. They scanned Lin Yanqing’s sharp jawline and long fingers before settling on a satisfied smile.
Lin Yanqing: “I’m sorry.”
The woman wasn’t deterred by the rejection. She boldly sat down next to Lin Yanqing and clinked her glass against hers. “You look upset. Want to talk to me about it? Maybe I can help you.”
Zheng Xin knew Lin Yanqing could handle herself, so she just watched the show and stayed quiet.
Lin Yanqing gently placed her glass on the low table and said politely, “Seeing you makes me upset.”
The woman: “…”
The woman held back and held back again, so she didn’t throw the wine in Lin Yanqing’s face. She just gave her a cutting glare before leaving in a huff.
Zheng Xin burst out laughing. “You should be more careful with that mouth of yours. You’re a pariah now. If you cause a scene and the police get involved, they might not even side with you.”
Lin Yanqing: “I’m just telling the truth.”
“The moment you sat here, a lot of people started watching you. Just wait. You’re definitely not done yet.”
Sure enough, another person walked over. Lin Yanqing had no interest in dealing with them and said to Zheng Xin, “Let’s call it a night. Zhang Cheng should be here soon. I’ll wait for her outside.”
“Alright,” Zheng Xin said. “Let’s have dinner together tomorrow.”
“Mhm.”
Lin Yanqing stood up to leave, but before she could turn around, she was held down and made to sit again. The person’s voice was muffled. “A drink?”
Zheng Xin couldn’t see the person’s face, but she could tell they weren’t ugly. So she said, “Oh, Lin Yanqing, you’re really popular.”
Lin Yanqing frowned. She didn’t like being touched by strangers. After avoiding the person’s hand, she got up from the other side. “Not interested.”
She didn’t even look at the person and was about to text Zhang Cheng to ask how long she would be when a key was suddenly handed to her.
The metal key was in the person’s palm. Lin Yanqing looked up and saw Wen Yu’s chin buried in the collar of her jacket. Her eyes were veiled with a misty layer, and her cheekbones were flushed red.
“Lin Yanqing, the key,” Wen Yu said.
Lin Yanqing didn’t react for a moment. Three seconds later, she frowned, pulled Wen Yu closer, and smelled alcohol on her breath. “Did you drink?”
Wen Yu: “A little.”
Zheng Xin was still out of the loop. “What’s going on?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t bother to explain. She just held Wen Yu’s seemingly intoxicated face and asked, “How do you feel? Is your chest uncomfortable?”
“I’m fine,” Wen Yu said. “I didn’t drink much. I just needed some liquid courage. If I drank too much, I’d mess things up.”
“Why did you drink?” Lin Yanqing’s voice was filled with displeasure.
Wen Yu didn’t answer. She just held the key, clenching it in her palm.
“I came to find you.”
Lin Yanqing: “If you needed something, you could have called. I—”
Wen Yu interrupted her. “You talk too much. I wanted to come find you!”
“Okay, okay,” Lin Yanqing conceded. She went along with what Wen Yu was saying and asked, “What did you come to find me for?”
Wen Yu suddenly fell silent. The words swirled between her lips, and she didn’t know what tone to use to say them.
Zheng Xin moved closer. “What’s going on? How did Wen Yu get the key?”
Wen Yu recognized Zheng Xin and just nodded in greeting. She then said, “I intercepted it.”
She sounded very confident.
Zheng Xin: “…”
Zheng Xin didn’t understand what they were doing, but she knew this was their chance to reconcile. She didn’t mind giving them a push and asked, “So what did Wen Wen come to find Lin Yanqing for? To take her back?”
Wen Yu nodded, then shook her head. “We’re not together right now. I’m not taking her with me.”
Zheng Xin saw Lin Yanqing’s face darken even more.
Lin Yanqing: “I’ll take her home.”
She held Wen Yu’s hand, and the two walked outside. The bar was in an alley, so they had to walk for a bit to get a taxi.
Zheng Xin followed them out. “Should I give you a ride?”
Wen Yu suddenly said, “No.”
Her tone was very firm.
Zheng Xin: “?”
Wen Yu added, “I’m not taking a car. You go home.”
She said the last part to Lin Yanqing.
Wen Yu: “Your apartment is nearby. I looked it up.”
Zheng Xin was amused. “She wants you to go back to your apartment. She’s not taking you back home.”
Lin Yanqing pressed the bridge of her nose. “You go get the car and take her home. I’m worried.”
“Fine.” Zheng Xin left to get her car.
Only the two of them were left at the mouth of the alley.
Lin Yanqing held her hand. “Why did you come to find me? What did you want to ask me?”
Wen Yu mumbled for a while, not making a sound.
Lin Yanqing: “If you don’t say anything, Zheng Xin will be here soon, and you’ll be going home.”
She felt Wen Yu’s hand clench a little tighter.
Wen Yu called out. “Lin Yanqing…”
“Mhm.”
“You…”
Wen Yu got stuck again.
Lin Yanqing said patiently, “Just say it.”
She guessed that Wen Yu had figured something out about their relationship in the last day, but not a lot. She had rushed over, but now that she was here, she couldn’t say it. Maybe the answer wasn’t very clear—but it shouldn’t be too far off, or she wouldn’t have been holding her hand the whole time.
It was already great that Wen Yu had calmed down in one day. It was far beyond her expectations.
So even if Wen Yu said she didn’t know what she felt for her and needed time to think, Lin Yanqing would be okay with it.
Slow and steady. There’s no rush.
Zheng Xin’s car was already appearing on the road.
Wen Yu saw it too, and her voice became a little anxious. “I’m not going back with her.”
Lin Yanqing: “Then where are you going?”
Her tone was overly gentle. Maybe it was because Wen Yu’s attitude was a lot softer than before, and she was slurring her words, giving off a feeling that she needed to be indulged. Lin Yanqing unconsciously started to use a coaxing tone.
Wen Yu turned sideways and stared straight at Lin Yanqing. “I’m going with you.”
Lin Yanqing was stunned.
Wen Yu pulled her collar up to cover her mouth. Her eyelashes fluttered. “Lin Yanqing… do you, do you want to fall in love with me?”
A sudden honk from a car horn covered the last three words. Lin Yanqing thought she was hallucinating, but Wen Yu’s flushed face didn’t seem to be fake.
Lin Yanqing lowered her head, and their breaths intertwined. She asked, “What did you say? I didn’t hear you clearly.”
Zheng Xin rolled down her car window. “Are you two coming or not?”
Lin Yanqing lowered her voice and coaxed her. “Say it again.”
Wen Yu blinked. Her gaze fell on Lin Yanqing’s close lips.
She wanted to kiss her.
She did.
A quick peck, and she pulled away.
Lin Yanqing froze in place.
Zheng Xin, who was watching from the side, was speechless.
What? Weren’t you two not on good terms? Why are you suddenly kissing?
Wen Yu licked her lips and gained the courage to repeat herself. “I said, do you want to fall in love with me?”
The air seemed to freeze for a moment.
Zheng Xin, seeing the situation, rolled up her car window. Her expression, however, said she couldn’t watch this anymore.
She’s still asking? Can’t you see Lin Yanqing’s eyes are glued to her? If she had a tail, it would be wagging so hard she’d take flight.
Lin Yanqing held Wen Yu’s face. Her eyes were very deep. “How much did you really drink?”
“I told you, just a little,” Wen Yu clicked her tongue. “It was just for courage. Lin Yanqing, I know what I’m saying and what I’m doing. I just… needed a push.”
The push was too strong. Lin Yanqing was completely unprepared and couldn’t handle it.
She scanned Wen Yu’s face for a moment and finally just said in a low voice, “Let’s talk about it at home.”
…
Lin Yanqing opened the apartment door.
The two had walked for about ten minutes, and their hands had never let go. Wen Yu was very quiet, so quiet that it was as if all her words had been condensed into that one sentence. Once her KPI was met, she became mute.
Lin Yanqing didn’t press her. She walked and tried to calm herself down, but the fire in her chest kept rising.
The apartment wasn’t big, just one bedroom and one living room. The decor was simple, giving off a temporary, desolate vibe.
The door closed behind them, and the sensor light in the entryway automatically turned on. The dim, yellow light barely illuminated the small space.
Lin Yanqing tossed the key onto the shoe cabinet and led Wen Yu inside.
There were hastily prepared daily necessities in the room. Lin Yanqing went to rinse the kettle and boil water.
Wen Yu: “What are you doing?”
Lin Yanqing: “Boiling water. You drank alcohol, you’ll be thirsty.”
Wen Yu walked to the window, closed it, and the room suddenly became quiet. The only sound was the humming of the kettle. She called out, “Lin Yanqing, come here.”
Lin Yanqing walked over.
Wen Yu wrapped her arms around Lin Yanqing’s neck. With the lingering smell of alcohol, she gently kissed Lin Yanqing’s lips.
It was just a touch. No more.
“I kissed you,” Wen Yu pulled back slightly. “I’ve sealed the deal. I’m assuming you agree.”
Lin Yanqing asked knowingly, “…Agree to what?”
She wanted to hear that sentence again.
“You want to fall in love with me.”
