How About A Divorce? - Chapter 41
Chapter 41: Girlfriend [VIP]
Lin Yanqing was silent.
The kettle beeped twice, the indicator light turned off, and steam billowed up from the spout. Lin Yanqing poured a cup of hot water and stood by it without moving.
Wen Yu didn’t move either—not because she was competing, but because she had said it three times in a row and Lin Yanqing hadn’t given a response. Although she had an answer in her heart, she was still a little unsure.
The dice were spinning in mid-air, unable to stop. She couldn’t guess the final number, whether she would win or lose.
Lin Yanqing’s fingers felt the rim of the cup. It wasn’t hot. She held the cup and put it on the table next to Wen Yu with a click.
“Let it cool,” she said.
Wen Yu looked at the cup of water and suddenly felt thirsty. She subconsciously licked her lips.
Lin Yanqing stared at her. Suddenly, she picked her up and placed her on the table. Wen Yu, worried about spilling the water, restrained herself from making any big movements. The next second, she was kissed directly, with no place to lean back, so she just took it.
Unlike Wen Yu, Lin Yanqing’s kiss wasn’t a quick peck. After easily prying open her lips, she tasted the lingering scent of alcohol, which was a little sweet.
Wen Yu blinked, slowly hugged Lin Yanqing, and her legs instinctively rubbed against her.
The feeling was there. Wen Yu grabbed Lin Yanqing’s hand. Just as she was about to do something, the latter suddenly pulled away.
Her voice was a little breathless. She called her name. “Wen Yu.”
Wen Yu hummed. Her mind hadn’t recovered from the aftermath of the kiss, and she was only thinking about the next step. “Let’s go back. Let’s go home. It’s not convenient here.”
Lin Yanqing took three seconds to react, then laughed exasperatedly. She lightly bumped her forehead against Wen Yu’s. “What are you thinking about?”
“Sleeping with you,” Wen Yu said as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “Is that not allowed?”
Lin Yanqing: “It is, but…”
She intentionally paused. Wen Yu, as expected, chased after her. “But what?”
“Answer a few of my questions first.”
Wen Yu pinched Lin Yanqing’s finger. “Stop playing games.”
Lin Yanqing asked seriously, “Why ‘falling in love’ and not ‘getting remarried’?”
Wen Yu had clearly thought about this question and answered quickly. “First, we fall in love, then we get married. That’s the normal process. What we had before was an arranged marriage.”
“Oh,” Lin Yanqing drew out her words. “I see.”
“Besides,” Wen Yu chattered on, “with you having no money right now, if I remarried you, my sister would skin me alive.”
Lin Yanqing: “…”
That’s not pleasant to hear.
Wen Yu grinned. “We’ll just secretly fall in love. We won’t tell anyone in the family.”
“You make it sound like I’m something to be ashamed of,” Lin Yanqing bit Wen Yu’s chin.
“Pretty much. Who knows how long it will take for Baiyi to stabilize? You have no power or influence right now. Your mom is one step away from issuing a statement disowning you.”
“What if I’m like this forever? Will you hide me forever?”
Wen Yu shook her head.
Lin Yanqing: “You won’t hide me, or you won’t want me?”
“Neither,” Wen Yu said. “If your mom can’t handle things, we’ll just forget about Baiyi. I’ll give you money, and you can start your own business. You’re not an idiot. It’s only a matter of time before you rise up again. It’ll just be tiring.”
“Wen Wen thinks that far ahead?”
“Of course. I can support you, but would you be willing?” Wen Yu said. “Lin Yanqing, you always want to be number one. I don’t believe you’d be happy like this.”
Lin Yanqing paused for a moment, then smiled. “Wen Wen, you know me so well.”
Wen Yu hmphed. “We’ve known each other for so long. How could I not know you?”
Lin Yanqing smiled and gave Wen Yu a rewarding kiss. She then asked, “Are you falling in love because you like me?”
“Nonsense. I don’t have a hobby of poverty relief,” Wen Yu said, spraying Lin Yanqing with her words as usual. She then slowly said, “But I’m not sure how much I like you. I just don’t want you to leave.”
“Wen Yu,” Lin Yanqing called her softly. “Did you know that you talk a lot softer when you’ve had a drink?”
If Wen Yu were sober, she would have directly said “Like you? In your dreams!” to Lin Yanqing’s face.
“How would I know that? I didn’t drink much, and the wine wasn’t good anyway.” Wen Yu pouted.
She had drunk a high-proof alcohol to get up the courage. A couple of sips were enough to get to her head, and the syrup couldn’t completely hide the spiciness.
Wen Yu: “I’m just saying what I’m thinking right now. Even if I hadn’t had a drink, I would have said the same thing.”
“Okay, okay,” Lin Yanqing agreed, knowing what the important part was. “I heard you. You like me.”
“Don’t ignore the other things I said,” Wen Yu protested.
“You don’t want me to leave, which means you like me. You like me a lot.” Lin Yanqing was bluffing.
Wen Yu was amused. “Lin, you think I’m an idiot.”
Lin Yanqing: “Then you don’t like me?”
Wen Yu: “I do, but not as much as you say…”
“Wen Yu,” Lin Yanqing interrupted her. “If I were to be with someone else right now, could you accept that?”
“I’d kill you,” Wen Yu answered without hesitation.
Lin Yanqing chuckled softly.
Wen Yu thought of a certain possibility and suddenly added, “And I don’t care about anything else. Anyway, when you’re in a relationship with me, there can’t be anyone else.”
“Okay,” Lin Yanqing said. “There won’t be anyone else. It’s impossible for there to be.”
Wen Yu didn’t listen and continued on her own. “See? Now that you’re down and out, no one else came to help you. Only I care about you, and only I can help you. Don’t get with anyone else.”
Lin Yanqing just assumed that Wen Yu was still affected by the alcohol and her words were all over the place, so she just went along with it. “I won’t get with anyone else. I’ll only be with you.”
She kissed Wen Yu.
“Don’t like anyone else. Just like me,” Wen Yu emphasized again.
“I like you. I’ve said it many times, Wen Yu.”
“Only me.”
“Only you.”
Wen Yu grinned, as if she were in a competition with her. “You have to say you super like me.”
“Wrong,” Wen Yu corrected, pointing back and forth between them. “It’s you—”
“I love you,” Lin Yanqing held Wen Yu’s moving finger, ending the game of conversation.
Wen Yu suddenly became quiet.
The atmosphere was perfect. She was almost lost in it. She didn’t want to think about those random things like the love letter and the phone calls.
At least, right now, Lin Yanqing was saying she loved her and liked her.
They were going to fall in love, a love for just the two of them.
Wen Yu leaned in and kissed Lin Yanqing’s lips.
Love makes people blind. Wen Yu suddenly felt that this sentence was very true. If she could get Lin Yanqing—even if it wasn’t the whole of her—by fooling herself, then it was a good ending.
She hadn’t experienced many setbacks in her life. She came from a wealthy family, was loved by her family, and had the help of friends. She couldn’t ask for too much in the love department.
There was no such thing as perfection. One couldn’t be too greedy.
A clatter brought them back from their daze.
The water cup was knocked over by their movements. The warm water soaked the bottom of Wen Yu’s clothes. She was stunned for a second or two before Lin Yanqing pulled her away from the table.
“You should change,” Lin Yanqing took a couple of steps and opened the suitcase that Zhang Cheng had left there.
Wen Yu: “Let’s go home.”
“It’s late tonight. Let’s sleep here and go back tomorrow,” Lin Yanqing handed her a change of clothes. “Put these on first.”
“I want to go back now,” Wen Yu pouted. “This place is too small. I’m not used to sleeping here.”
“You’re such a pampered young lady,” Lin Yanqing said with a smile.
She pulled off Wen Yu’s top and put on a clean shirt for her. She then folded the wet clothes and stuffed them into the suitcase before closing it.
“Let’s go. We’re going home.”
…
The next day, Wen Yu woke up in Lin Yanqing’s arms.
When she moved, Lin Yanqing opened her eyes. “You’re awake?”
“Good morning,” Wen Yu said groggily.
“It’s already noon,” Lin Yanqing answered. She got up and put on her clothes. “What do you want to eat?”
“Anything.”
The two of them went downstairs together. Wen Yu watched Lin Yanqing busy herself in the kitchen and answered a call from Sang Yun.
“Wen Wen, do you still remember that you have an account?” It was noisy on Sang Yun’s end. She must have been outside.
Someone asked, “Wen Wen has an account?”
It sounded like Yuan Yiyang.
Wen Yu answered lazily, “Are you two still together?”
Sang Yun: “We’re talking about a collaboration. Someone came to talk to Sister Yuan about a variety show, and Sister Yuan is bringing me along. Director Shi is in the middle of negotiating.”
“What kind of variety show?”
“Three-Minute Story. It’s a show for short drama actors. The episodes are three minutes long. They want Sister Yuan to be an assistant mentor, and Director Shi to be one of the directors. I’m just a student.”
“Sounds interesting. How much are they paying?”
Sang Yun told her a number.
Wen Yu commented calmly, “That variety show is really poor.”
“Wen Wen, help me roll up my sleeves,” Lin Yanqing suddenly called out.
Her hands were greasy, and her sleeves had slid down to her wrists.
Wen Yu walked over, put the call on speaker, and placed the phone on the side while she rolled up Lin Yanqing’s sleeves.
“They’re paying a decent amount, and the episodes aren’t long,” Yuan Yiyang said. “It’s only six episodes. We can finish filming in two weeks.”
Wen Yu: “That’s perfect for your break between projects.”
“Yeah,” Sang Yun said. “This variety show will be promoted on the Zero One app. They’re inviting influencers. Wen Wen, you have an account, right? Want to join in?”
Wen Yu: “Not interested.”
“It’s pretty interesting,” Yuan Yiyang chimed in. “You just have to film a few videos with us. You don’t have to interact with anyone else from the show.”
“Hehe, I get to play a CEO who’s having a bad day and wants to take down the company,” Sang Yun chuckled foolishly. “Three minutes! I want all the information on that woman!”
Wen Yu was amused but still refused. “No, I’ve been busy falling in love lately.”
Sang Yun: “?”
Yuan Yiyang: “?”
Weren’t we just watching a film together yesterday? You didn’t say you were busy falling in love then. And aren’t you divorced? Did you find a new love that quickly?!
“Is it Lin Yanqing?” Shi Li’s voice came through the phone. She must have been there all along.
She seemed to have expected it.
“Mhm,” the sleeves were rolled up, and Lin Yanqing continued to massage the pork chops. Wen Yu said into the phone, “I have to be with someone. I don’t have time to film videos.”
Sang Yun was disappointed. “Okay.”
“Then bring Lin Yanqing with you,” Shi Li said.
Wen Yu was stunned. Lin Yanqing looked over as well.
“Anyway, it’s not convenient for CEO Lin to go anywhere right now. Traveling is out of the question, and there’s nothing fun to do in the North City. CEO Lin’s ID is blacklisted. It’s even hard for her to go to an internet cafe,” Shi Li listed off. “You can’t just be cooped up at home to be in love.”
That was exactly what Wen Yu had planned to do.
“Come and have some fun,” Shi Li said. “The variety show has a pretty cocky director with some connections. CEO Wen can come and take control of the situation and let them know I have someone backing me up.”
By the end, she was joking more. Wen Yu smiled. “Then I’ll have to ask my girlfriend’s opinion.”
The girlfriend herself was captivated by the words “my girlfriend” for three seconds. She blinked, and after a moment, she said, “Okay.”
Wen Yu nodded. “Then we’ll come tomorrow.”
Shi Li: “The hotel rooms are already booked. You don’t have to run back and forth. You can stay here for two days.”
Lin Yanqing: “Mhm.”
The call ended. Lin Yanqing wrapped the pork chops in foil and put them in the oven.
Wen Yu picked up a slice of apple and put it in her mouth. “You just have to stand with me. I don’t think many people will recognize you. Even if they do, it’s fine. I’ll protect you.”
She crunched the apple loudly. Lin Yanqing leaned over and licked the apple juice from her lips. “Say it again.”
Wen Yu: “?”
“I said, I’ll protect you.”
“Not that. The one before.”
Wen Yu had completely forgotten what she had said. As soon as the call ended, her brain shut off too.
Lin Yanqing reminded her. “Girlfriend. I’m your girlfriend.”
Wen Yu was stunned.
Lin Yanqing said slowly, with a hint of recollection. “I dreamed of those words eleven years ago.”
