How About A Divorce? - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Livestreaming [VIP]
At the dinner table, Shi Li said with emotion, “Now the whole production team knows who the big shot is.”
Wen Yu: “I don’t have any direct relationship with Zero One, and I didn’t invest in this show.”
“Who cares about that?” Yuan Yiyang said. “Assistant Director Wang is a smart one.”
With Wen Yu’s attitude and the few words she said, even Chen Wei didn’t dare to talk back. Everyone knew that her identity was not simple.
The rest of them were getting a boost from her.
The conversation stopped there, and the group didn’t talk about it anymore. After dinner, they all returned to the hotel.
That night, Shi Li sent a message to Wen Yu, saying that someone from the production team wanted to visit Lin Yanqing.
“Do you want to see them?” Wen Yu asked the person next to her.
Lin Yanqing: “No.”
Wen Yu: “Shi Li didn’t say who it was yet.”
“It doesn’t matter who it is.”
Lin Yanqing couldn’t be bothered to analyze the motives of the visitors. They all wanted something—either they had their eyes on Wen Yu, or they thought Lin Yanqing could make a comeback. She was free from all worries now and didn’t want to get involved with people.
The next day, Sang Yun pulled Wen Yu to film a few more transition videos and instructed her, “You can save these and post them when you’re free.”
The two of them had met through short videos. Sang Yun was now busy with work, but she hadn’t forgotten her roots.
The group had lunch together. After lunch, Sang Yun said she had a class in the afternoon and left. Wen Yu and Lin Yanqing were also preparing to go home. Yuan Yiyang, on the other hand, received a call. They had sent over the script for the first episode, and there was a scene of her interacting with Shi Li, so she was asked to go and meet the director with her.
When Shi Li heard this, she frowned slightly and then said, “I’ll take Wen Wen and them back. You can go and meet the director. You don’t have to wait for me.”
Yuan Yiyang didn’t say anything. She nodded and left directly.
The atmosphere became subtle with Yuan Yiyang’s silent departure.
Wen Yu and Lin Yanqing looked at Shi Li. Shi Li said helplessly, “Don’t look at me like that.”
Wen Yu said, “Oh.” “We didn’t ask you for a ride. Why are you so eager, Director Shi? Who are you avoiding?”
Shi Li smiled. “It’s better to know the truth without saying it out loud.”
On the way back, Shi Li didn’t say a word. Her facial features looked like they were weighed down, and she was clearly preoccupied.
When they arrived, the two of them got out of the car. Shi Li said, “In a few days, Yuan’s video will be released in a collaboration with your account.”
Wen Yu: “Okay.”
“See you later,” Shi Li was about to leave, but Wen Yu stopped her. “Wait.”
Wen Yu took out a hair tie. “Yuan Yiyang lent it to me during lunch. Can you give it back to her for me? Thanks.”
It was a big pink hair tie with polka dots.
Shi Li’s expression changed, but she took it as usual and put it in her pocket. “Okay.”
…
While Lin Yanqing was thinking about what to cook for dinner, Wen Yu received a call from Yuan Yiyang.
“Wen Wen, the video is about to be released. Can you check if the format is okay?”
Wen Yu glanced at it. “Everything looks good.”
“Okay.”
At noon, the video was released. Lin Yanqing set the table and watched it with Wen Yu.
In the video, the two women’s movements were stiff and out of sync, but Yuan Yiyang had her own following, so the video still made it to the hot list on the video app.
Wen Yu was very satisfied with her performance. “I’m so versatile.”
Lin Yanqing liked the video on her phone and then said, “Ms. Versatile, come eat.”
Halfway through the meal, Wen Yu received a message from Sang Yun.
It was a few screenshots of the comments section.
A group of fans was complaining—Wen Yu didn’t show her face on her own account, but she was happy to show it for Yuan Yiyang’s promotion.
Another group of fans was confused about how the two of them knew each other.
Sang Yun sent a message: [The fans are asking you to go live. Wen Wen, do you want to?]
Wen Yu went to the comments section and saw that a fan had posted a clip of her last gaming livestream, so the demand for her to go live was even higher.
The most liked comment was: Wen Wen, please play “A Beautiful Home.” It’s a little bit of a horror game, and it’s a lot of fun!
Wen Yu replied: OK.
She also added a cute emoji.
She messaged Sang Yun: [I’m going to go live tonight. You can be busy with your own things. You don’t have to worry about me.]
She knew Sang Yun had an evening class.
Lin Yanqing put some food on Wen Yu’s plate. “Are you playing a game tonight?”
Wen Yu nodded.
Lin Yanqing: “I’ll be by your side.”
“Okay,” Wen Yu finished her meal in a few bites, stood up, and went upstairs. “I’m going to set up my computer and download the game.”
“You’re so motivated?”
Wen Yu: “I’m bored at home.”
Lin Yanqing suddenly asked, “When I was busy with work before, what did you do at home by yourself?”
Wen Yu stopped and turned around, raising an eyebrow. “Who told you I was at home by myself?”
Lin Yanqing: “?”
“When I’m free, I go out and shoot some videos, and when I come back, I edit them. I also do some food reviews, but most of the time, I’m at my mom’s company,” Wen Yu said.
This was something Lin Yanqing had not expected.
“Sometimes I help her with odd jobs, handle some things. If relatives come, I’m the one who deals with them,” Wen Yu leaned against the railing and listed them one by one. “When my mom is in a good mood, she gives me a lot of money, and I go shopping and buy things that will hold their value. If there’s anything good, I’ll get some for my sister as well.”
Wen Yu didn’t have a real job. Her health was unstable, so she had to deal with the public and be a spokesperson for her family. Some things that Wen Yinghuan and Wen Rong couldn’t say, Wen Yu had to say. She was younger and not in good health, so she had a pass to say what she wanted.
Lin Yanqing knew about these things, but before, she was busy, and their relationship wasn’t close, so she didn’t have the position or reason to ask about these details.
“Wen Wen is amazing,” Lin Yanqing said, her gaze fixed on Wen Yu.
Wen Yu said proudly, “Of course.”
She then said, “But I haven’t had much to do lately, so I’ve just been cooped up at home with you.”
“That’s a good thing,” Lin Yanqing said. “You’ve finally gotten a chance to shine and be a good person.”
“You know yourself well,” Wen Yu said, nodding in approval. “Beauty is a trap.”
“Are you annoyed with me?”
“Hmm?” Wen Yu put her fist to her mouth and chuckled. “Am I that obvious?”
Lin Yanqing was choked up and laughed. “Give you an inch, and you’ll take a mile.”
Wen Yu: “You spoiled me.”
“Yes, yes, yes,” these three words hit Lin Yanqing right in the heart. She smiled helplessly. “Go do your thing.”
Wen Yu ran up the stairs, leaving a sentence behind her. “Don’t worry. I can afford to keep you as my captive in this house.”
Lin Yanqing’s smile faded. As she was cleaning up the dishes, she took out her phone and made a call.
The other side answered after a while. “Yanqing?”
Lin Yanqing: “It’s September.”
Lin Jiao paused for a moment and then said, “It’ll have to wait until next year.”
Lin Yanqing frowned. “Why is it so slow?”
“It’s not slow,” Lin Jiao’s voice was tired. “Some things can’t be solved overnight.”
“You’re so ruthless to me, but so lenient with yourself,” Lin Yanqing’s hands didn’t stop moving. She put the stack of dishes into the dishwasher. “Is a project loss so big that you need to find a good day to do it?”
“You just stepped down. If I lose another project, the Baiyi board of directors won’t be able to stay stable.”
“Isn’t that the effect we want?”
Lin Jiao was silent for a while and then said, “…Chen Liangsheng is not a fool.”
“You’re just old. You’re too afraid to gamble even with such a good chance,” Lin Yanqing lowered her eyes. After she rinsed her hands, she leaned against the counter and said calmly, “Speed it up. After this is done, you’ll step down.”
After she finished speaking, Lin Yanqing hung up without caring about Lin Jiao’s reaction.
She took out a tissue to dry her hands. Her eyes were lowered, and she was in her own thoughts.
Lin Yanqing had no desire to be supported by Wen Yu. This arrangement was only for flirting and a change of pace. If it went on for too long, even if Wen Yu didn’t mind, she wouldn’t be able to stand it.
Power was something you could choose not to use, but you couldn’t be without it.
Lin Yanqing threw the wet tissue into the trash can.
That night, Wen Yu sat in front of the computer, excitedly moving her wrists. Lin Yanqing sat next to her with her laptop, acting as her personal morale booster.
Wen Yu leaned over to look. “What are you looking at?”
“The project proposal,” Lin Yanqing turned her laptop screen toward Wen Yu. “I’m trying to figure out how to set a trap.”
Shortly after the phone call, Lin Jiao had sent her the project proposal without saying anything else, letting Lin Yanqing interpret it herself.
Lin Yanqing, of course, interpreted it as quickly and ruthlessly as possible.
Wen Yu saw the words “Zero One” and raised an eyebrow. “You’re actually going to mess with Zero One?”
Zero One was one of Baiyi’s main sources of cash flow, and it was also something Lin Yanqing had built up herself. Even if she was setting a trap, she wouldn’t have used Zero One as the target.
“You can’t get the wolf without giving up the child,” Lin Yanqing said.
“That’s what I love about you.”
Lin Yanqing raised an eyebrow. “Why didn’t you say that before?”
Wen Yu: “Before, that’s what I hated most about you.”
Lin Yanqing laughed. “Fickle woman.”
“You don’t like it?”
“I do.”
“You have good taste.”
After a few squabbles, it was time. Wen Yu opened her livestream, greeted everyone, and showed the game screen.
A lot of people entered the livestream—thanks to the traffic from Yuan Yiyang—and it was very lively.
There were also a lot of negative comments.
Some people were calling Wen Yu a freeloader, but Wen Yu couldn’t be bothered to respond.
Someone asked her how she knew Yuan Yiyang. Wen Yu answered, “We met through a collaboration. As for what kind of collaboration, you’ll find out soon.”
The short drama had been submitted for review and should be released soon.
“Freeloader. You’re so desperate. It’s just a promotional video. It’s not a collaboration.”
Wen Yu simply blocked the person.
“My admin isn’t here today, so there might be some negative comments in the chat. You can block them yourselves. Let’s play the game,” Wen Yu stretched her neck and clicked on a game level.
It was said to be a mild horror game, but there were a lot of scary parts. Every time Wen Yu got scared, she would pinch Lin Yanqing’s thigh.
After a few times, the audience started to notice something was off.
“Is someone next to Wen Wen?”
“Wen Wen, what are you doing with your hand?”
Wen Yu had just been killed by a jump scare, and the screen froze. She clicked on the chat and answered naturally, “My partner is sitting next to me.”
“?!”
“Is it the same person from your last livestream and the one in your video!”
Wen Yu smiled. “Yes.”
The screen was filled with question marks and exclamation points.
“But you said you weren’t together before!”
Wen Yu: “Before, she was my wife. Now she’s my partner. Oh, also my ex-wife.”
There were even more question marks in the chat. Lin Yanqing glanced at it and realized for the first time that the chat could look so chaotic.
A few negative comments appeared.
“What is this nonsense? Is she just looking for publicity?”
“LOL. Her private life is a mess.”
“There has to be a bottom line to freeloading, right? She just used YYY for traffic, and now she’s trying to sell a lesbian fantasy?”
With these comments, a series of other negative comments followed, and she couldn’t block them all.
Wen Yu stopped blocking and sighed. “New friends might not know—and old friends might not either—that I don’t like to be taken advantage of.”
“What are they saying? Freeloader, lesbian fantasy, looking for traffic? I don’t need any of that.”
The comments were still full of mockery.
Wen Yu took out her phone and made a call. The other side answered quickly. “Wen Wen?”
“Are you busy?”
“No, what’s up? Do you want to come hang out with us?”
A lot of people recognized Yuan Yiyang’s voice, and the comments started to shift.
“Did I hear that right? It sounds like Yuan Yuan’s voice?”
“Are you able to go live right now?”
The other side was silent for about three minutes and then said, “Yeah, just a minute.”
The call ended.
The comments were a mix of things, and a lot of people were still being sarcastic. Wen Yu wasn’t in a hurry. She just went back to her save point in the game and continued playing.
Two minutes later, a connection request popped up on the computer. Wen Yu clicked accept, and the next second, Yuan Yiyang’s face appeared on the screen.
The comments were blank for a moment. The next second, they were filled with flowers and happy emojis. The shock was turning into real money that was being poured into the livestream.
Wen Yu’s donations were turned off, but Yuan Yiyang’s were not. She was clearly shocked by this and was a little overwhelmed.
Shi Li took the phone, fiddled with it, and turned off the donations. Without any fancy special effects, her pink hair looked especially bright.
Some people had already recognized who she was.
“Shi Li?! The director who guarantees a hit?”
“Whoa, how did these two end up together?!”
“Yuan Yuan is filming a short drama variety show. Shi Li must be one of the director guests.”
“Didn’t you guys know they just finished a short drama together? It’s about to be released!”
Shi Li wasn’t afraid of the camera and took the opportunity to promote it. “Welcome to support Yuan Yuan’s short drama.”
“Yuan Yuan” was the nickname fans had for Yuan Yiyang.
Yuan Yiyang took the phone back. The comments were asking how she knew Wen Yu. The former smiled. “To be precise, Wen Wen is not my friend.”
Before the haters could celebrate, Yuan Yiyang added, “She’s my boss.”
The comments were blank for two seconds. Only a few scattered question marks remained.
It was clear that words could no longer express their shock.
Someone took the opportunity to ask: “Is Wen Wen’s partner also in the industry?”
“Her partner is my former boss,” Yuan Yiyang said when she saw the comment, casually dropping a bombshell.
The comments… couldn’t even type out a question mark anymore.
“Looking for traffic? How can two of my biggest sponsors be looking for traffic from me? Don’t make me lose my job.”
Yuan Yiyang wasn’t worried that fans would search for her. They could only find Qianchuan Yinghua. Wen Yu was using her family’s name, and the investment process hadn’t been completed yet. Lin Yanqing was even harder to find. Yuan Yiyang’s statement was vague, and she had many former bosses.
The chat came back to life after the joke.
“I think I went deaf for a second.”
“What the hell? My sponsors are livestreaming a game for me to watch?!”
Only then did Wen Yu speak up. “So I don’t need all this traffic and publicity. I’m just playing around.”
Seeing that the drama was over, Yuan Yiyang waved her hand. “I’ve got to go back to work.”
Wen Yu: “Bye bye.”
The connection was cut. Wen Yu suddenly saw a scary scene and instinctively squeezed Lin Yanqing’s leg.
“Let’s keep playing the game. Hey…” Wen Yu felt someone getting closer to her. When she turned her head, Lin Yanqing leaned in and whispered in her ear with a hand on the back of the chair, “Wen Wen, you’re going to bruise my thigh.”
She intentionally lowered her voice, but Wen Yu’s mic was clipped to her collar, and the sound quality was excellent, so the normal but not-so-serious sentence was broadcasted to the entire livestream.
