How About A Divorce? - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: The Young Miss
Lin Yanqing froze, motionless.
Ever since their fight in high school, Wen Yu had rarely taken the initiative to be intimate with Lin Yanqing. Even when they were fulfilling their wifely duties, Wen Yu was mostly a passive participant.
Even on their wedding day, her only active physical contact was the moment they exchanged rings.
It was so brief that Lin Yanqing didn’t get to hold her hand for long.
This was the first time Wen Yu had touched Lin Yanqing’s head.
Lin Yanqing, at that moment, had the inappropriate thought that if Wen Yu always treated her this way, she would be Wen Yu’s dog.
After Wen Yu was satisfied with her head rubbing, she was generous enough to straighten out the messy strands of hair she had created before she withdrew her hand.
Lin Yanqing took a while to recover. Her stiff body moved. Her sluggish nerves transmitted a numbing, tingling sensation to her cerebral cortex. The arm that was close to Wen Yu felt a little weak.
“You…” Lin Yanqing’s eyes were complicated. After she met Wen Yu’s completely oblivious gaze, she closed her eyes, sighed softly, and said, “…Never mind.”
She secretly scolded herself for being so pathetic.
Lin Yanqing stood up straight, acting as if nothing had happened.
Young Miss Wen was used to being casual. She didn’t have to consider other people’s feelings when she did things. Rubbing her wife’s head was like rubbing a golden retriever’s head, completely devoid of any romantic feelings.
She hummed. “Let’s go for a walk. It’s so boring being cooped up here.”
She pulled the door open and walked out. Lin Yanqing had no choice but to follow, walking absently beside Wen Yu.
Lin Yanqing knew Wen Yu’s personality. She had known since high school. So, anything Wen Yu did was normal. This person probably didn’t have any other intentions. It was just that… Lin Yanqing couldn’t handle it.
Wen Yu really didn’t have any other intentions. She just genuinely thought Lin Yanqing was pitiful. She was born a young miss of a wealthy family and had a smooth life. So, in some aspects, she was also exceptionally naive.
For example, she would release useless kindness to her unfaithful wife, like a foolish idiot.
If Wen Yu’s older sister knew about this, she would definitely hit Wen Yu on the head and repeatedly warn her not to be so big-hearted—although Wen Yu would surely let it go in one ear and out the other.
Wen Yu’s life motto was to “follow her heart.”
She felt that she should comfort Lin Yanqing at that time, so she did. She didn’t need to deliberately suppress her thoughts with the fact that “Lin Yanqing was cheating on her.”
Wen Yu walked to the railing of the hotel’s atrium and looked down at the crowd below, thinking to herself, one thing at a time.
The person she felt sorry for was high school Lin Yanqing, and it had nothing to do with the person who cheated on her now.
There was an awards ceremony happening below the atrium. Every creator had an award. Wen Yu stopped in her tracks and watched with great interest.
Lin Yanqing looked at her profile, lost in thought. She suddenly thought of Lin Jiao’s request for her to get married in a family arrangement.
When Lin Yanqing heard Lin Jiao’s plans for her, she had once wanted to cut ties with her, until she found out that the person she was going to marry was Wen Yu.
Now, Lin Yanqing was gradually taking over Lin Jiao’s business at Baiyi. She had walked the predetermined path, and it had been smooth sailing. The naive so-called rebellion from before was gone. Lin Yanqing was very aware of how great the path Lin Jiao had paved for her was.
Even the family-arranged marriage was so much to her liking.
Wen Yu suddenly turned her head and looked over. “By the way, when does this event end? Are you going to stay here?”
Lin Yanqing: “No need. If you want, we can go home now.”
She had only come here to meet a few business partners and her old friend, Shi Li. Now that Shi Li was trying to steal her wife right in front of her, Lin Yanqing didn’t even want to sit down and talk to her. She wished this person had never come.
Wen Yu asked, “Do you have anything else to do after this?”
“Why?”
Wen Yu: “I want to hang out in Jingnan for a day. Will you accompany me?”
Lin Yanqing was surprised.
Why was Wen Yu taking the initiative to ask her to accompany her?
Wen Yu looked at the awards ceremony below again, hiding the emotions in her eyes.
She certainly didn’t want to just hang out. Since Lin Yanqing knew she was here, she didn’t have to hide. Wen Yu figured she would just follow Lin Yanqing back to her hotel and see if she could find anything fishy.
Lin Yanqing had no reason to refuse. “Sure.”
She took out her phone and postponed her return plans for tomorrow. She had Zhang Cheng book a round-trip ticket for her and Wen Yu.
Lin Yanqing: “Which hotel are you staying at?”
Wen Yu said the name of a hotel. Lin Yanqing was a little surprised. “I’m staying there too.”
Wen Yu thought to herself, of course, you are. I specifically followed you there. It was a lucky accident.
She casually explained, “I just booked it randomly.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t suspect anything. A smile appeared on her face. “Then let’s go back together.”
After they walked out the main entrance, a driver was waiting. When they arrived at the hotel, Wen Yu planned to go to Lin Yanqing’s room first to see if Lin Yanqing had destroyed any evidence.
But unfortunately, she didn’t find anything. There wasn’t even any steam in the bathroom.
Having found nothing, Wen Yu immediately went back to her own room alone. Just as she was thinking about how to plan for the long term, she received a call from her mother.
“Where are you?” Wen Yinghuan’s first words were full of distrust. “Did you run off and have fun again?”
Wen Yu blurted out, “I’m at home.”
Wen Yinghuan sneered. “I’m at your house right now. If you’re not in front of me in three seconds, my hand will be on your forehead.”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu was helpless. “Mom, you came to the house?”
“Yeah,” Wen Yinghuan said. “I came to see if you’re eating things you shouldn’t be eating again.”
Wen Yu: “Lin Yanqing tattled on me again.”
Wen Yinghuan chuckled. “Don’t blame little Lin. Do you think I don’t know what you’re like?”
She got back to the main topic. “Where are you now? Don’t let me find out you’re doing something you shouldn’t be!”
Wen Yu gave up. “I’m in Jingnan.”
Wen Yinghuan: “Why did you go there? It’s so hot. Why are you running around?”
Wen Yu brought out her ace in the hole. “Lin Yanqing is here too.”
Wen Yinghuan’s tone immediately softened. “Little Lin is there too?”
“Yep.”
“Let me talk to her for a bit.”
“Mom, I’m your biological daughter.”
“Don’t be so sure. What if I accidentally switched you and little Lin when you were babies?” Wen Yinghuan retorted.
Wen Yu: “…”
My own mother.
“Wait a moment, she…” Wen Yu paused.
Wen Yinghuan didn’t know that the two of them didn’t get along in private. To prevent her mom from worrying about her marriage, Wen Yu and Lin Yanqing had always pretended to be very affectionate, showing no signs of any problems.
Now, if Wen Yinghuan found out that they had booked two rooms, she would definitely nag them.
“…She just went downstairs to get something. I’ll have her call you back later,” Wen Yu lied.
“Are you lying to me?” Wen Yinghuan was suspicious.
“How could I be?” Wen Yu stood up and walked toward the door. “I’ll video call you later.”
After dealing with her mother, Wen Yu opened the door, walked to Lin Yanqing’s hotel room, and knocked twice.
The door opened quickly. When Lin Yanqing saw Wen Yu, she moved to the side to let her in. After Wen Yu was inside, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
Wen Yu threw her phone to Lin Yanqing. “My mom’s checking up on me.”
Lin Yanqing understood. “What excuse do you need this time?”
Before, when Wen Yu went out to have fun, she would ask Lin Yanqing to cover for her. Lin Yanqing was quite adept at handling these matters.
Lin Yanqing only managed Wen Yu’s diet. As for going out, she was always cooperative. After all, Wen Yu rarely moved from one place to another and rarely went on a long trip.
Wen Yu’s health wasn’t good, and she had also been lost when she was a child. Wen Yinghuan’s nerves were always on edge. They only relaxed a little after Wen Yu got married.
“You can make something up. Anyway, my mom believes you.” Wen Yu was nestled on the sofa, her long legs bent. She was a complete hands-off boss.
Wen Yu’s phone screen was still on the WeChat chat with her mother. Lin Yanqing made a video call, and the other side answered immediately.
“Little Lin.”
“Mom.” Lin Yanqing sat down on the sofa.
“Where’s Wen Wen?” Wen Yinghuan raised an eyebrow. “Have you two eaten?”
Wen Yu heard her mother call her and reluctantly moved closer to Lin Yanqing. Their shoulders were touching. She pouted. “Oh, you still remember your daughter, huh?”
When Wen Yinghuan saw her, she was relieved. “Good, you’re alive. You can go now. Don’t disturb me and little Lin.”
Wen Yu: “…”
She lifted her butt, got off the sofa, and rolled onto the big bed.
Lin Yanqing saw that she was wearing shorts with her legs exposed. Her gaze lingered on her two straight legs for a moment before she picked up the air conditioner remote control and lowered the fan speed.
Wen Yinghuan asked some family-related questions. Lin Yanqing’s brief answers could make her laugh out loud. The atmosphere between the two of them was as harmonious as if they were biological mother and daughter.
Wen Yu peeked out from under the blanket and quietly watched them.
She used to not understand why Wen Yinghuan was so nice to Lin Yanqing. Now, she might understand a little.
A mother can always tell if a child is lacking love.
Wen Yu used to be jealous, thinking that Lin Yanqing had stolen her mother’s love. Later, she thought this idea was so childish, like an unweaned kitten, so she deliberately put these feelings aside.
Now that she was picking them up again, Wen Yu was surprisingly calm.
If Lin Yanqing needed a mom, then Wen Yinghuan was a good choice, because Wen Yinghuan was a good mother, and Lin Yanqing would be happy.
Of course, Lin Jiao was also a good mom, each with their own merits.
Wen Yu’s thoughts were scattered, and she didn’t notice that Lin Yanqing had been looking at her for a long time.
The video call had long since ended. Lin Yanqing noticed Wen Yu’s gaze and let her look. She just didn’t know what the latter was thinking, so lost in thought.
Compared to when she was at home, Wen Yu was much softer when she was out. Maybe it was because she lacked a sense of security. She was more dependent on people.
Lin Yanqing was satisfied with this dependence.
She stood up and sat on the edge of the bed.
Wen Yu finally came back to her senses. “Done with the call?”
Lin Yanqing nodded and reached out to smooth a strand of hair on Wen Yu’s nose to the back of her head. “Are you hungry?”
Wen Yu, whose hair was being stroked, blinked. Her thoughts were being led. “A little.”
Lin Yanqing: “Do you want to eat at the hotel or somewhere else?”
Wen Yu thought that since she was already here, she should eat something different. So she said, “Somewhere else.”
“I know a place that has good food,” Lin Yanqing said. “You can take the bus there, and it passes through the Plane Tree Avenue.”
When Wen Yu heard “Plane Tree Avenue,” her eyes lit up.
The reason she had a good impression of Jingnan was because of that Plane Tree Avenue. The asphalt road stretched endlessly, and the tall plane trees hung low. It was very beautiful.
“Then let’s take the bus. After we eat, we can walk back along the Plane Tree Avenue,” Wen Yu said.
Lin Yanqing smiled and nodded. “This is rare. You’re willing to take the bus? Don’t you think it’s dirty?”
Wen Yu, who wanted a cushion for the bus seat, had her face darken. “You talk less! It’s affecting my mood.”
Wen Yu picked up her phone and went back to her room. After she tidied herself up a bit, she returned to Lin Yanqing’s room.
Lin Yanqing had changed into a short-sleeved shirt. Her long hair was tied low at the back of her head. She went downstairs with Wen Yu.
In the elevator, Wen Yu ran into the two girls from before.
One of the girls saw Lin Yanqing and her face lit up. Just as she was about to speak, Wen Yu said to Lin Yanqing, “If we walk back after we eat, what will I do if I get tired?”
Lin Yanqing: “We can call a car.”
“But I want to look at the plane trees slowly.”
“Young miss, you’re quite picky, aren’t you?”
Wen Yu was surprised. “When was I not picky?”
“Then I’ll carry you on my back.” Lin Yanqing smiled and answered so naturally that Wen Yu was stunned for a moment.
Wen Yu’s intention was to act unreasonably to let the girl know that Lin Yanqing was married and not someone worth hitting on, to make her retreat. She didn’t expect to hear this.
She hummed dazedly, not knowing what to say.
The elevator was very quiet. The girl also gave up on trying to hit on her.
Wen Yu glanced at the person next to her and then looked away.
In high school, Lin Yanqing had carried Wen Yu on her back to the school clinic and also back home. Lin Yanqing had waded through the rainwater, and Wen Yu, who was on her back, held the umbrella. Her clothes didn’t get wet at all.
But that was all in the past.
Now, why were they talking about carrying each other? They were adults. They weren’t in the past anymore, twelve years ago.
