How About A Divorce? - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Meeting the Mistress
Lin Yanqing looked at her. Although she didn’t say anything, Wen Yu could interpret the words “I’ve spoiled you” from her eyes.
Wen Yu’s ears were a little red, but she was still stubborn.
As expected, just thinking about that incident makes me so angry. Cheating too. This Lin person is simply too much.
Aren’t you able to carry people on your back? Then carry me. It won’t kill you.
Lin Yanqing walked in front of Wen Yu and bent over slightly.
Wen Yu couldn’t see her expression, but she thought it probably wasn’t very good.
Lin Yanqing had a cold personality and was a bit arrogant. The few times she had carried Wen Yu before, their relationship was still good. Wen Yu wasn’t being difficult and insisting that Lin Yanqing carry her. There were some unavoidable circumstances.
This time was different. Wen Yu was doing it on purpose.
Lin Yanqing’s long hair had been gathered to the front. Her slender back was slightly arched. Her clothes covered her protruding spine. Her whole body seemed to be supported by this single skeleton.
Wen Yu frowned. “Why are you so skinny?”
“You don’t have any meat on you,” Wen Yu pressed on her back. “Don’t you eat when you’re at work?”
Lin Yanqing didn’t say anything.
Wen Yu’s hand smoothed over Lin Yanqing’s back. The more she touched, the more she felt like she was bullying her. “I think I can crush you to death.”
“If you crush me to death, I’ll become a ghost and haunt you,” Lin Yanqing said.
“Never mind,” Wen Yu withdrew her hand. “I don’t need you to carry me anymore. It’s bony.”
“You’re so delicate,” Lin Yanqing straightened up and looked back at Wen Yu. “Then should we take a taxi?”
“No need. If you’re this weak and you’re not tired, how could I be tired?”
Wen Yu walked past Lin Yanqing toward the hotel, her brows still furrowed.
Lin Yanqing walked behind Wen Yu, her gaze lightly encompassing the figure of the person in front of her. She then reached back and touched her own back.
For the rest of the way, neither of them spoke. It wasn’t until they got to the hotel entrance that Wen Yu asked, “I remember your company’s meal standards are pretty high. Didn’t Zhang Cheng book a meal for you?”
Lin Yanqing: “Sometimes I get too busy and forget to eat.”
Wen Yu: “Is your job your life?”
Lin Yanqing smiled. “Are you worried about me?”
“Get lost,” Wen Yu said disdainfully. “I’m not worried about you. You can eat or not eat. If you starve to death, I’ll be free.”
Lin Yanqing’s smile faded.
“Thanks for your concern. I probably won’t starve to death within the next eighty years.”
Don’t even think about being free.
Wen Yu: “That’s a shame.”
After they finished bickering, the topic was over. Wen Yu never thought about truly managing Lin Yanqing. This person had her own ideas, and Wen Yu couldn’t change them. She was just holding on to a small sense of marital conscience to give her wife a little suggestion—after all, starving to death was a rather shabby way to die.
Furthermore, Lin Yanqing had also cheated. When Wen Yu thought of this, she wished Lin Yanqing would just starve to death.
That despicable jerk!
After going upstairs and returning to her hotel room, Wen Yu lay on the sofa like a corpse for a long time before she regained some strength.
Walking that distance with such an effort had almost broken her legs.
Wen Yu sat up, rolled up her bathrobe, and went into the bathroom.
After she finished her shower, Wen Yu shivered from the cold air of the air conditioner. She tightened her bathrobe and started to blow-dry her hair.
Just as the hairdryer had been on for three seconds, someone knocked on the door.
Wen Yu went to open it. Lin Yanqing was standing outside with a bag of candy in her hand.
Lin Yanqing was still dressed in the same clothes as before, but she had wrist guards on her hands.
She used her hands a lot. To prevent her wrists from retiring early, she would wear wrist guards when she worked.
“What?”
Lin Yanqing’s gaze lingered on Wen Yu’s hair for a few seconds before she said, “Do you still want candy?”
Wen Yu hummed, took the bag, and asked, “Anything else?”
“Is there anywhere you want to go tomorrow?”
Wen Yu didn’t have anywhere she wanted to go. Now that there was a clear, suspicious candidate for the mistress, she naturally went after her. So she said, “We’ll see. By the way, are there celebrities coming to the Zero One event tomorrow?”
Lin Yanqing: “Yes.”
“Then I’ll go check it out.”
Lin Yanqing: “Since when did you like to join in on this kind of excitement?”
Wen Yu: “I feel like it.”
After Wen Yu said that, she pretended to close the door.
Lin Yanqing held the door open. “Aren’t you going to invite me in to sit?”
“They all have the same layout. What’s the point of sitting?”
“To check if you’ve been secretly eating anything you shouldn’t be.”
This excuse was so flimsy. However, Lin Yanqing had used it many times and it had always worked. Wen Yu glared at Lin Yanqing, let go of the door, and let her in. “If you don’t find any junk food, you’ll have to apologize with your death.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Lin Yanqing said casually.
She scanned the room and was quite satisfied. She walked to the hairdryer and held out her hand. “Come over here.”
Her voice was deliberately gentle, not overbearing. Wen Yu shuffled over in her slippers and sat down on the sofa.
The hairdryer buzzed behind her head. A pair of hands held up her hair. Wen Yu could feel the wrist guards on Lin Yanqing’s hand rubbing against her scalp. It tickled a little.
“Are you still busy when you’re back at the hotel?” Wen Yu asked.
Lin Yanqing’s hands didn’t stop. “When am I not busy?”
“Right, you’re so busy,” Wen Yu said sarcastically. “Who can be busier than you?”
You’re also busy with an affair on top of your work. You’re never going to get a break.
Lin Yanqing: “Speak nicely.”
“It’s already a big deal that I’m talking to you,” Wen Yu said. Suddenly, she asked, “How many years have we been married?”
Lin Yanqing: “Seven years. Why?”
“I just thought of an idiom, ‘the seven-year itch’,” Wen Yu turned her head and looked at Lin Yanqing. “But it doesn’t apply to us. Our marriage is as if we’re not married at all.”
The hairdryer stopped. Lin Yanqing put down the hairdryer, picked up the essential oil from the side, and massaged it into her hair. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“I didn’t say anything wrong,” Wen Yu said. “Lin Yanqing, aren’t we just a family arrangement?”
“A family arrangement is still a marriage.”
“But the emotional bond is still not as strong as in a normal marriage.” Wen Yu didn’t know what she wanted to express or what she was testing. “Isn’t it?”
Lin Yanqing suddenly reached out, cupped Wen Yu’s chin, and turned her face toward her. She looked at Wen Yu. “Are you seeing someone outside?”
Wen Yu: “?”
Lin Yanqing: “Or do you have someone you like?”
Wen Yu: “…”
Wen Yu’s face was blank. “Lin Yanqing, what the hell?”
Lin Yanqing was relieved. “Don’t say such things.”
If Wen Yu had feelings for someone else, then Lin Yanqing wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. She would just pack her bags and leave as soon as possible.
Wen Yu: “You’re the one who needs to get lost.”
She pushed Lin Yanqing to the door and wrapped herself in the blanket, falling onto the bed.
Lin Yanqing smiled. “I’m going back. Don’t eat candy tonight.”
Wen Yu was unhappy. “Mind your own business.”
Lin Yanqing: “Or I’ll tell Mom.”
Wen Yu picked up a pillow from the sofa and threw it at her.
Lin Yanqing was hit head-on, but she wasn’t angry. She opened the door and left on her own accord.
The door was closed. Wen Yu threw another pillow, and it hit the door.
…
The next morning, Lin Yanqing came to call her for a meal. Wen Yu reluctantly got out of bed and followed her to eat breakfast.
Since Wen Yu was so sleepy, Lin Yanqing only took her to the buffet restaurant on the top floor. After she pressed her down into a seat, she went to get food for her.
Wen Yu squinted, watching Lin Yanqing walk away. She remembered the dream from last night.
She dreamed that she caught Lin Yanqing and her little lover, but she was very unhappy and even felt wronged. What a low-class person. You have a great beauty like me at home, but you still have an affair. You’re a jerk.
Wen Yu yawned.
“CEO Wen,” a pleasant female voice floated over. “We meet again.”
Wen Yu withdrew her gaze from Lin Yanqing’s back and looked at the person sitting opposite her.
The person had a head of flamboyant red hair. Her makeup-free face added a touch of lazy elegance. She was wearing a smoky gray casual outfit, which was very eye-catching.
Shi Li blinked. “Do I look good?”
Wen Yu nodded. “You’re a great beauty.”
“Hahahahahaha,” Shi Li laughed loudly. “Can I sit here?”
Wen Yu glanced around. “There are empty tables next to us.”
Shi Li pretended not to hear. “Are you alone?”
“No,” Wen Yu straightened up. “My meal partner will be back soon.”
“Meal partner?” Shi Li raised an eyebrow, guessing who it was. She deliberately asked, “Am I prettier than them?”
Wen Yu glanced at where Lin Yanqing was standing and found that she had disappeared. She then turned her head back and said seriously, “She’s not here, so you’re prettier.”
“Hahahahahahahaha!” Shi Li laughed uncontrollably.
She found that a groggy Young CEO Wen in the morning was truly cute.
While laughing, Shi Li waved in a certain direction. “You’re back.”
Wen Yu turned around and saw the expressionless Lin Yanqing.
Wen Yu: “…”
Lin Yanqing walked over and placed a bowl of pumpkin porridge in front of Wen Yu. “Be careful, it’s hot.”
Shi Li looked at her as if she had seen a ghost. “This is the first time in so many years that I’ve heard you speak in that sickly-sweet tone. Be-care-ful-it’s-hot.”
Lin Yanqing said coldly, “Shut up.”
Shi Li: “Hahahahahaha!”
Wen Yu was annoyed by the noise. “This is the first time I’ve heard a bowl of pumpkin porridge laugh.”
Shi Li immediately stopped laughing. Lin Yanqing, on the other hand, chuckled softly.
Lin Yanqing looked at Shi Li. “Why did you come all the way here?”
Shi Li: “The way you say that. It just so happens that I’m also staying at this hotel.”
“No business talk at the breakfast table,” Wen Yu said.
Shi Li neither agreed nor disagreed. She picked up a plate from the buffet and started eating slowly, chatting with Wen Yu in an intermittent way.
Wen Yu wasn’t someone who liked to listen to flattery, so Shi Li talked about the food in Jingnan. The more they talked, the more Wen Yu got hungry. They verbally agreed to have a meal together in the future if they had the chance.
“Can I call you Wen Wen?” As the conversation got exciting, Shi Li took the opportunity to get closer.
“Sure, go ahead,” Wen Yu found Shi Li quite interesting. It was still good to be friends even if a deal didn’t happen. Maybe she would be a business partner in the future.
“Do you want anything else?” Lin Yanqing asked, interrupting their conversation as if no one else was there.
Wen Yu: “No. I’m full.”
Lin Yanqing: “Then let’s go.”
Wen Yu got up. Lin Yanqing bent down to pick up the jacket that was on the back of Wen Yu’s chair. She glanced at Shi Li with a look that contained a warning.
Shi Li clicked her tongue.
We just chatted a little more, and you’re acting all jealous.
Wen Yu went back to sleep. When Lin Yanqing came out of her room, she and Shi Li, who was waiting outside, made eye contact.
The two of them walked toward the balcony on that floor.
There weren’t many people in the morning. They leaned against the railing. Shi Li took out a cigarette pack, pulled one out, and lit it.
Lin Yanqing moved a little farther away from her. “If you have something to say, say it.”
Shi Li: “Why are you standing so far away?”
“I don’t want to inhale second-hand smoke.”
Shi Li bit on the cigarette filter, put out the cigarette, and exhaled a puff of smoke. “Fine, you’re whipped. I won’t smoke.”
She leaned against the railing, her jacket loose. “This is the first time I’ve heard you look at someone with such a sickly-sweet gaze. Tsk tsk tsk, you’re so in love.”
Lin Yanqing: “If there’s nothing, I’m leaving.”
Lin Yanqing pretended to leave. Shi Li quickly stopped her. “What’s the rush? We haven’t even talked yet.”
“What’s the situation with Zero One now?” she asked.
Lin Yanqing said in one sentence, “Zero One has no problems. Something happened with Baiyi.”
It might affect her decision-making power at Zero One, or she might be replaced. Lin Jiao told her to wait and see.
This was also the reason why Lin Yanqing told Shi Li to quickly find a new partner. If there were changes in the top management, the welfare policies would most likely tighten. But the company wasn’t big enough yet. Zero One would be acting too hastily.
Lin Yanqing looked at Shi Li faintly. “I didn’t expect you to have your eyes on Wen Yu.”
Shi Li: “It’s human nature.”
That was true.
If Lin Yanqing were in this situation, she would also choose to get Wen Yu on board. She had money. She had a background. She didn’t cause much trouble, and she was easy to talk to.
Shi Li’s hand felt itchy. She twisted the extinguished cigarette butt, remembering something. “Did you get the necklace you asked me to get for you?”
“I did.”
Two simple words made the person who was about to push open the balcony door stop.
They were standing right next to the balcony door. The door was slightly ajar. Fragments of their conversation drifted in through the crack and happened to reach Wen Yu’s ears.
Wen Yu didn’t sleep well. She decided to get out and find someone. When she went out, she heard faint voices talking on the balcony. She turned and walked toward it. Before she could push the door open, she heard them talking about a necklace.
Wen Yu subconsciously thought it was for the little lover. Her face instantly soured.
“When are you going to give it to her?” Shi Li asked again.
Lin Yanqing: “In the next couple of days.”
“That’s good,” Shi Li said. “It took me a lot of effort to pick out this necklace.”
Wen Yu pushed the door open. The two people on the other side looked over. Lin Yanqing straightened up and took two steps closer. “Are you awake?”
“What necklace?” Wen Yu asked directly.
Lin Yanqing heard the unpleasant tone in Wen Yu’s voice and was stunned for a moment. Shi Li craned her neck to look and smiled, starting to add fuel to the fire. “It looks like it’s not for Wen Wen? What a shame. I picked it out so carefully.”
Lin Yanqing: “Talk less.”
This was not something that couldn’t be said. Lin Yanqing walked next to Wen Yu and explained, “I bought it for Mom. I couldn’t make it back for Mom’s birthday last time, so I’m planning to give her a necklace as a make-up gift.”
Lin Yanqing didn’t have to lie about Wen Yinghuan. Her tone was very stable. Wen Yu’s expression improved a lot. “Really?”
Lin Yanqing: “Really. I asked Zheng Xin, and I also asked Shi Li.”
“Oh,” Wen Yu believed most of it. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Lin Yanqing was silent. Wen Yu also realized that she had said something wrong—why would Lin Yanqing tell her?
There was no need for it.
The two of them had almost tacitly agreed not to interfere with each other. Whatever decisions they made were their own business. They didn’t communicate unless necessary. Wen Yu had gotten used to this. She wasn’t interested in Lin Yanqing’s matters and also hoped that Lin Yanqing would mind her own business—although the latter never yielded on the topic of her diet.
Wen Yu: “…Never mind, I…”
“I’ll be sure to tell you next time,” Lin Yanqing said, interrupting her.
Wen Yu was stunned.
This sentence sounded like a promise. Paired with Lin Yanqing’s gentle tone, Wen Yu didn’t know what to say. Her heart was beating a little fast.
She looked away. “…Whatever.”
Lin Yanqing narrowed her eyes. “Why did you react so strongly just now?”
She leaned closer to Wen Yu’s ear. “Who did you think it was for? Were you jealous?”
“I’m more likely to be spicy than jealous!” Wen Yu said with a hint of dissatisfaction. “Get away from me.”
Lin Yanqing smiled. “You won’t even give me face?”
Wen Yu: “How much is your face worth?”
Although that’s what she said, anyone who wasn’t deaf could tell that the two of them were just playing around.
Shi Li clicked her tongue from the side. She couldn’t watch anymore. “I can’t take it anymore. I’m leaving.”
The three of them went back inside. Shi Li had things to do, so she left the hotel directly.
Before she left, she waved her phone at Wen Yu and said, “Wen Wen, if you’re interested in Yuan Yiyang, I can take you to meet her today.”
