How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 17
Even after getting the marriage certificate, Cheng Wan still didn’t feel like she was truly married. The little red booklet in her hand felt more like it was burning her palm than symbolizing a new chapter in life.
Bai Juntang placed both of their marriage certificates, along with Cheng Wan’s household registration and ID card, into her own bag. Then she finally spoke.
“Next, we’re going to the hospital to register the pregnancy. We’ll also check on your health and see how your body is doing.”
She looked over at Cheng Wan and asked, “You ate this morning and then sat in the car for a while—are you feeling nauseous?”
Cheng Wan shook her head, her eyes fixed on Bai Juntang’s bag. “No. I don’t feel anything today.”
“Alright.” Bai Juntang nodded, leaned back in her seat, and said to Li Chen, “Take us to the same hospital as last time.”
Although it was Monday, the hospital was still busy. It wasn’t as crowded as the weekend, but it was far from quiet.
Cheng Wan underwent an ultrasound and several medical tests. While Li Chen ran around handling paperwork and documents, Bai Juntang stayed by Cheng Wan’s side during the physical exams.
In the obstetrics department, there were many pregnant Omegas. Some were with family, while others came alone, cradling their bellies as they moved through the hospital.
Bai Juntang wasn’t used to visiting this kind of place. She looked around at the heavily pregnant women walking steadily down the hall, and couldn’t help but imagine what Cheng Wan would look like once her belly grew. Would she walk like that too?
Probably not like that one male Omega she just saw practically speed-walking. Cheng Wan would likely move a little slower.
Just then, Bai Juntang heard a commotion behind her. She turned her head and saw a small child racing toward them, giggling loudly.
Worried the child might crash into Cheng Wan, she instinctively reached out and pulled her into her arms.
Cheng Wan was startled. Just moments ago, there had still been space between them. Now she was suddenly in Bai Juntang’s embrace—it caught her completely off guard.
The child, unaware of what had almost happened, ran off cheerfully.
Holding Cheng Wan around the waist, Bai Juntang watched the child leave with a frown. “What kind of parents let their kid run wild like that?”
People nearby seemed to share her sentiment, quietly pulling their own Omegas close and stepping aside.
Cheng Wan had never been held by Bai Juntang in front of so many people before. It made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
She furrowed her brow and lowered her voice. “Miss Bai… could you please let go of me?”
Bai Juntang looked at her, thought for a moment, then released her. But instead, she took her hand in hers.
“We’re legally married now,” she said calmly. “It’s only right that I stay by your side during your check-up and take care of you.”
She added, “Once Li Chen brings the report, we’ll go see Dr. Huang.”
Cheng Wan looked up at her. The hand Bai Juntang was holding felt strangely warm—like her skin was absorbing the heat.
Li Chen returned quickly with the results. Bai Juntang told him to wait outside, then led Cheng Wan into the consultation room.
Dr. Huang looked through the medical report and frowned. “What’s going on? I told you last time to rest and take care of yourself. Why are your results still like this?”
She pointed at a few numbers on the report—terms Cheng Wan didn’t recognize—and said, “Look at this one, and this. Both are below the standard. Have you not been eating properly lately?”
Cheng Wan actually had something to say about that.
“These past few days, I’ve been throwing up a lot. I can hardly keep anything down.” She gently placed her hand on her stomach and looked at the doctor. “Could you prescribe something for the nausea? I still have to go to work.”
Dr. Huang didn’t hesitate. While reviewing the test results, she said, “Alright. I’ll give you a bottle of anti-nausea medication. Take one tablet when it gets really bad, but don’t rely on it too often. Are you feeling nauseous every day?”
“Yes,” Cheng Wan replied. “Sometimes I even wake up at night feeling like I’m going to throw up. I can’t eat or sleep properly.”
Dr. Huang didn’t say anything right away. She glanced at Bai Juntang, who was standing beside Cheng Wan, and asked, “Are you her alpha?”
Bai Juntang nodded. “Yes.”
“Her gland’s pheromone levels are unusually high. Are the two of you not regularly exchanging pheromones?”
“Exchanging pheromones?” Bai Juntang looked confused. “What does that mean?”
“It means spending time close to each other and picking up each other’s scent,” Dr. Huang explained. “Since you’ve already completed the lifelong marking, your pheromones actually have a calming effect on each other. For things like pregnancy nausea, regular pheromone exchange can help ease the symptoms.”
Bai Juntang thought back—Cheng Wan never seemed to feel sick when they were together. She asked the doctor if that might be the reason.
“That’s exactly right,” Dr. Huang said. “Generally, an Omega’s body becomes more fragile after conception. Their alpha needs to stay close and offer support. Ideally, pheromone exchange should happen two to three times a week. Deep exchanges lasting at least half an hour can be very effective.”
This was clearly a gap in Bai Juntang’s knowledge. She looked completely lost, like a first-grader sitting in on a university lecture—her face all but spelled out: I don’t get it.
Dr. Huang sighed, a bit helplessly, and said to the two young wives, “Basically, aside from everyday contact, you should be making an effort to stay close and share pheromones two or three times a week. We actually have a guidebook for this—I’ll get one for you.”
There’s a manual for this kind of thing???
Dr. Huang prescribed the medication and handed over a few other items. She then had Cheng Wan added to the hospital’s group for expectant mothers and scheduled her next prenatal check-up for the same time next month.
Back in the car, Bai Juntang was flipping through the pregnancy handbook. When she reached the section Dr. Huang had mentioned about pheromone exchange, she paused.
The book explained that for most bonded couples who sleep together regularly, there’s usually no need for deliberate pheromone exchange. But if the alpha isn’t able to spend enough time with the Omega, then it’s recommended to intentionally do so two to three times a week.
That could mean simply leaning against one another and releasing pheromones in close proximity.
Or it could involve more intimate actions—like hugging and kissing—to help with pheromone release.
A deep exchange should last at least thirty minutes. That’s why the government even provides leave for alphas during the early stages of their Omega partner’s pregnancy.
…
Further along, the handbook included other pregnancy tips—like when bed rest is needed, and in which months it’s safe to resume intimacy. Everything was laid out clearly.
Cheng Wan sat beside Bai Juntang, quietly watching her flip through page after page. From her angle, she could only see the front cover.
Cheng Wan was also curious about the section in the handbook that talked about pheromone exchange, but seeing how seriously Bai Juntang was reading it, she didn’t have the heart to interrupt her. So for the rest of the ride, Bai Juntang stayed focused on the booklet, flipping through it with quiet concentration.
The car moved steadily along, but after a while, Cheng Wan began to feel something was off. The scenery outside the window was becoming unfamiliar.
Although she was a local, she didn’t know every corner of the city. She stared at the strange streets and tall buildings she’d never seen before and finally asked, “Where are we going?”
“Home,” Bai Juntang replied calmly, flipping another page in the booklet. “We’ll head to my villa first. After we eat, I’ll drop you off at your company.”
Cheng Wan looked at her, still completely absorbed in the small book, and simply nodded without asking more.
Bai Juntang’s property was a three-story villa located in the western part of the city—two stories above ground, with a basement level below. Technically, it wasn’t especially large, but it was comfortable. The garage could only fit three cars, after all.
When Cheng Wan got out of the car, she took a moment to look around. This was clearly a wealthy neighborhood. The villas were spaced far apart, with tall trees growing between them, casting heavy shadows and forming natural privacy screens.
Li Chen stayed behind to park the car, while Bai Juntang picked up a few things and walked out of the garage. Noticing Cheng Wan trailing behind slowly, she stopped and glanced back at her.
Realizing Bai Juntang was waiting, Cheng Wan quickly jogged over and stood by her side.
“This place is closer to my company,” Bai Juntang explained casually. “It’s not very big, but it’s convenient. You’re welcome to come here often.”
Cheng Wan looked around again and said thoughtfully, “Actually, I think it’s pretty close to my office too.”
Well, of course it is.
Bai Juntang looked at her, quietly thinking to herself—Your company is my company.
And very soon, it might even become our company.
She didn’t say any of that out loud, though. Instead, she just smiled to herself and said, “Don’t stand there in the sun—come inside. Auntie should have lunch ready by now.”
As soon as they entered the house, Cheng Wan noticed how bright and open the living room was. The villa wasn’t huge, but the design was elegant and thoughtful. The living room featured a massive seven or eight-meter-tall floor-to-ceiling window, and the second floor only covered part of the space, allowing someone upstairs to look straight down into the living area.
Though not grand in scale, the home felt warm, tidy, and well-organized—not a single inch was wasted.
After stepping inside, Bai Juntang casually placed her things to the side, then walked over to the shoe cabinet. She pulled out a brand-new pair of indoor slippers and placed them in front of Cheng Wan. Bending down slightly, she said gently, “Wear these for now. I’ll buy you a pair of summer slippers in a couple of days.”
The fluffy pink slippers looked completely out of place next to someone like Bai Juntang, but Cheng Wan still took off her shoes and slipped them on. They were so warm that her feet started to feel a little hot.
Noticing this, Bai Juntang gave a soft chuckle. “Too warm?”
Cheng Wan nodded.
“Sit here for a bit. I’ll go turn on the air conditioning,” Bai Juntang said, gently guiding Cheng Wan into the living room by the hand.
By this time, the housekeeper had already prepared a full table of dishes. Seeing Bai Juntang adjusting the air conditioner, she asked, “Miss Bai, the food is ready. Should we serve lunch now?”
While setting the temperature, Bai Juntang turned to Cheng Wan and asked, “Are you hungry?”
“A little,” Cheng Wan replied honestly.
“Then let’s eat.” Bai Juntang smiled and walked over to her. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I had a few extra dishes made. You’re back to work at two this afternoon, right?”
“Yes,” Cheng Wan said. “I only took half a day off. I need to be at the office by two.”
Bai Juntang nodded. Seeing how well-behaved and quiet Cheng Wan looked, she couldn’t help herself—she reached out and gently ruffled her hair. Her heart softened instantly.
Starting today, she had a wife.
