How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 2
The paternity test wasn’t as complicated as Cheng Wan had imagined, and the medical staff at the private hospital were exceptionally gentle. She followed a young nurse to give bl00d and complete several other tests. Now, she was slowly slipping her arms back into her coat.
The air conditioning in the testing room was set too low, and her hands and feet were cold from the procedure. Seeing this, the nurse thoughtfully brought her a cup of hot water.
“Miss Cheng,” a Beta doctor said gently, softening her voice as she looked at her. “The results will be ready by noon tomorrow at the latest. President Bai’s assistant can pick them up then.”
This was Bai Juntang’s private hospital—famous for both its expensive treatments and warm, attentive care. Most wealthy clients preferred to come here, and the staff were indeed as considerate as the rumors claimed.
But Cheng Wan wasn’t like the usual patients.
No matter how kind the staff were, everything still felt cold to her.
The sting of the needle had already faded from her skin, but in her mind, the pain was amplified—relentlessly reminding her of her current situation.
She was carrying the child of an Alpha she barely knew.
The staff did what they could for an emotionally withdrawn Omega like her. They helped her put on her coat, ensured her arm wasn’t still bleeding, and only then allowed her to leave the testing room.
Outside, Xiao Li stood as soon as he saw her. He gave her a polite smile and said, “President Bai had to leave for other matters. I’ll take you home.”
Cheng Wan nodded, her voice soft and distant. “Thank you.”
Xiao Li paused for a moment at the sound of her voice. It was gentle, with a faint nasal tone—almost like someone holding back tears. Anyone hearing her would feel sorry for this Omega.
But Xiao Li knew better.
He knew that the Cheng family, with this so-called daughter, had set up a trap that left President Bai with no way out. No matter how pitiful Cheng Wan looked, it wasn’t something he could feel sympathy for. He stayed silent and simply drove her home.
Just before getting out of the car, Cheng Wan turned and said quietly, “The nurse told me the report will be ready by noon tomorrow.”
“Yes,” Xiao Li replied calmly. “I’ll pick it up then.”
Hearing that, Cheng Wan felt foolish for even mentioning it. Of course Bai Juntang would have already made all the arrangements before leaving.
There was nothing more to say. She sat quietly in the back seat, her hand gently resting over her belly.
Why should she even care? The test results were for Bai Juntang. As for her… the outcome was already certain.
After leaving the hospital, Bai Juntang didn’t have anywhere specific to go. There were piles of tasks waiting for her, but right now, she had no interest in handling any of them.
She was beyond furious.
The hospital was well located—technically in the suburbs, but surrounded by beautiful mountains, clean air, and a nearby lake. It was also easily accessible. Bai Juntang hailed a ride and gave the driver a destination.
“Qiangu Racing Club.”
Qiangu Group, owned by the Bai family, was a massive conglomerate that spanned nearly every industry—services, manufacturing, industrial development. Under Bai Juntang’s leadership, it had expanded into trendier and more niche ventures. One of those was the Qiangu Racing Club.
Bai Juntang had fallen in love with racing in high school and even spent a year as a professional racer.
But due to family pressure, she eventually gave it up. Instead, she became a businesswoman and folded the club into the Qiangu brand, personally training several new racers over the years.
She was never stingy with the things she loved. Everything at the club—from the gear to the facilities—was the best money could buy. She poured funding into it without hesitation.
But she didn’t mind the expense. No matter how much she spent, racing made her happy.
On the wide racetrack, three race cars roared at high speed. There was nothing blocking the open edges of the course, and the cold wind whipped through the space, lifting Bai Juntang’s long hair into the air. It danced like ribbons in the wind, sharp and graceful, like flowing silk.
The manager of the racing club spotted Bai Juntang and walked up to the stands to greet her.
“Boss, what brings you here today?”
Bai Juntang kept her eyes on a silver race car speeding around the track.
“Is Ruchu driving that one?”
“She is,” the manager confirmed with a smile. “Miss Mu is practicing for the upcoming points race.”
Bai Juntang didn’t respond right away. She watched quietly as the silver car completed a lap and pulled to a stop at the track’s edge. Then she turned to the manager.
“Get things ready. I want to race her.”
Mu Ruchu was the club’s top racer, known for her steady performance and exceptional skills. Even though most racers on the circuit were male Alphas, she consistently earned top results in international competitions.
When she noticed a black-and-gold race car suddenly entering the track, she tilted her head slightly, intrigued.
No one had ever dared to race her on this track before.
The engines roared as the two cars sped across the course, weaving in and out at incredible speed. The sound of them racing echoed through the open space. Some spectators backed off into the lounge, too nervous to watch, while others stayed, eyes fixed on the two streaks of black and silver battling for dominance.
When the black-and-gold car finally overtook her, Mu Ruchu let out a low laugh. But at the next turn, she made a sharp move and took the lead again.
It was only practice, after all.
When the lap reached the tire change point, Mu Ruchu pulled into the pit and climbed out of the car. She removed her helmet, tucked it under her arm, and walked straight over to the black-and-gold car. Without hesitation, she gave it a light kick.
Clang.
“What are you doing?” she called out, half-laughing, half-complaining. “Show up out of nowhere just to ruin my day?”
Bai Juntang climbed out of the car with her helmet in hand, her high ponytail swaying behind her. She bumped her shoulder lightly against Mu Ruchu and said,
“Come on. I came to talk.”
“Oh? The boss wants to chat?” Mu Ruchu raised an eyebrow. “You’re not going to dock my pay for this, are you?”
Bai Juntang smirked, then followed her into the lounge.
She pulled off her black racing suit and hung it casually over a chair. As she loosened her ponytail, she sighed.
“You know what happened to me today?”
Mu Ruchu, with her short hair and sharp features, had a striking beauty that even her strong, commanding presence couldn’t hide. Her pheromones carried the distinct scent of ginkgo—rich, clean, and unmistakably Alpha.
“Let me guess,” she said calmly, twisting open a bottle of water. “Last time, the Cheng family scammed you out of a project. What’d they hit you with this time?”
Just hearing the name made Bai Juntang grit her teeth.
“I thought giving them that hundred-million-yuan deal would shut them up for good. But today they told me that woman is pregnant.”
Mu Ruchu froze mid-drink, her attention fully caught.
“She’s pregnant?”
Bai Juntang let out a frustrated breath and sat across from her. She ran her fingers through her bangs, her brow furrowed.
“Yeah. The report says she’s ten weeks along. I took her to get a paternity test today to see if the kid is even mine.”
“So… what are you going to do if it is?”
“What else can I do?”
Bai Juntang leaned back in her chair, her expression dark.
“If money can solve it, I’ll pay. But if they push their luck again—trust me, I’ll make sure they regret it.”
Mu Ruchu didn’t seem too bothered. She knew her friend well—Bai Juntang talked tough, but deep down, she was clearly uncertain. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come all the way here just to vent.
“You do know,” Mu Ruchu said calmly, “that the law doesn’t allow Omegas to terminate pregnancies once they’re confirmed?”
She looked at Bai Juntang with a half-smile.
“Congratulations. You’re going to be a mom.”
Bai Juntang’s frustration nearly made her hair stand on end.
“I’m not convinced it’s mine until the results are out,” she snapped. “That woman hasn’t said a word this whole time. I can’t help but feel something’s off.”
“What could be off?” Mu Ruchu propped her head on one hand. “Honestly, I’ve always wondered what kind of Omega could actually get through to someone like you. Looks like you’ve finally met your match.”
“Match? Come on. What do you mean I’m that easy?” Bai Juntang scoffed. “I just stand there, and people—men, women, doesn’t matter—they throw themselves at me. Do you even know what rumors are going around about me?”
“What are they saying?”
“They say I’ve slept with at least half the entertainment industry—men and women both.”
Mu Ruchu couldn’t help but laugh. “Wow, that impressive? If you’ve got someone decent in that half, mind introducing me? I’m still single, you know.”
That only annoyed Bai Juntang more. “I swear, I’ve done nothing of the sort! Keep talking like that and I’ll sue you for slander!”
“Alright, alright,” Mu Ruchu said with mock surrender. “Don’t get worked up, Miss Bai. Remember—you’ve got that cool, untouchable image to maintain.”
“Forget that damn image,” Bai Juntang groaned. “Right now, I feel like dying!”
Eventually, Mu Ruchu managed to calm her down a little. Then she said,
“Since you’re free tonight, why don’t you come to the bar with me? Blow off some steam.”
The thought of tomorrow’s paternity test results made Bai Juntang feel like tonight might be her last chance for freedom.
“Sure. Why not?” she said, her tone cold but decisive. “Even if the test shows that kid’s mine, so what? The Bai family is still mine to run.”
The bar was buzzing—flashing lights, loud music, and the heady scent of alcohol and pheromones filled the space.
Bai Juntang dropped into a seat on the lounge sofa and immediately felt the eyes of several people turning her way.
The dance floor was filled with the blended scents of Alphas and Omegas—sweet, intense, hot and heavy. In this dim space, people shed their daytime masks. Here, they were just creatures of desire.
Suddenly, a girl slid into the seat next to Bai Juntang. Her scent was thick and sugary—like milk candy. She was clearly a young Omega, maybe not even twenty, wearing heavy makeup and staring at Bai Juntang with bright, eager eyes. She ran a finger lightly across Bai Juntang’s thigh and purred,
“Sis… won’t you buy me a drink?”
Mu Ruchu, watching nearby, immediately stepped in.
“Hey, sweetheart. We’re not really the type to mess around like that.”
The girl turned her pout toward Bai Juntang, looking unhappy.
“Really, sis? Not even one drink?”
Bai Juntang let out a long, tired sigh. Normally, she wouldn’t let a girl like this near her. But tonight… she just didn’t care.
“Sure,” she said, eyes slightly glazed. “Order whatever you want. I’ll cover it. Anything.”
Mu Ruchu looked at her friend and sighed quietly, helpless.
