How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 21
Bai Juntang didn’t stay long at the company today before receiving a call from Mu Ruchu. She was calling to return the car.
“Wait for me in the parking lot,” Bai Juntang thought for a moment, stood up from her chair, and said to her, “We can go shopping afterward.”
Mu Ruchu, curious, asked on the phone, “What, aren’t you working today?”
“I’m taking a break today,” Bai Juntang entered the elevator and spoke into the phone, “By the way, I need to ask you a few things.”
When she reached the underground parking lot, Bai Juntang immediately spotted her car. She walked over and casually opened the passenger side, getting in. When Mu Ruchu saw her, she put away her phone and said lightly, “What are you buying now? Didn’t you just get a lot of summer clothes a few days ago?”
“A woman can never have too many clothes,” Bai Juntang winked at Mu Ruchu with a smile, “Let’s go, drive to our usual spot.”
Though Mu Ruchu was still thinking about the upcoming competition, she didn’t refuse Bai Juntang’s invitation. She started the car and drove with her to the shopping mall.
After spending the whole morning shopping, Bai Juntang bought a lot of things. Mu Ruchu just stood behind her, arms crossed, watching as Bai Juntang selected a pink four-piece bedding set with delicate snow-white lace trimmings.
“What do you need a four-piece set for?” Mu Ruchu, dressed all in black, followed Bai Juntang closely. She was wearing a black T-shirt and black cargo pants, paired with black combat boots. Her tall and slender figure made her look striking.
If she didn’t show her ID, no one would guess she was an Omega.
Bai Juntang, absentmindedly touching the lace, then asked her friend, “Do you think an Omega would like this kind of girly bedding?”
Mu Ruchu stared at her in disbelief.
Bai Juntang sighed softly as she looked at Mu Ruchu, whose black outfit and short hair made her seem so far from the image of an Omega. “Forget it, it was a pointless question anyway.”
An Omega with hair that short? Only Mu Ruchu could pull that off.
Turning to the sales attendant, Bai Juntang said, “I’ll take this pink set, and the vintage dark green one I was looking at earlier. Also, I think your mattresses look quite thick, do you sell those too?”
Bai Juntang spent a long time shopping, picking up an entire set of items, including summer quilts and a few other things, but she didn’t buy the mattress. The store asked for her address and said they would deliver everything personally.
In short, Bai Juntang shopped while Mu Ruchu stood nearby with her hands in her pockets, watching her shop nonstop. It wasn’t until noon that Mu Ruchu finally suggested they go for lunch.
Bai Juntang was also feeling hungry. She turned to Mu Ruchu and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
“Hotpot,” Mu Ruchu replied. “And let’s get some cold drinks too. It’s getting pretty hot now.”
The two of them ordered a lot of food at the hotpot restaurant. Mu Ruchu also ordered an enormous ice cream, so big that just looking at it made Bai Juntang feel a chill in her cheeks.
“Alright, tell me—buying all of this stuff that clearly isn’t for you—what’s your plan?” Mu Ruchu asked while eating her ice cream.
Bai Juntang took a sip of her fruit tea and answered, “I want Cheng Wan to move in with me.”
Mu Ruchu froze for a second. She stared at Bai Juntang and then asked, “But didn’t you used to dislike her? Why would you want her to move in with you now?”
“Now that she’s carrying my child, I can’t let her live outside. I want her under my roof, where I can keep an eye on her and feel more at ease.” Bai Juntang lowered her gaze and said softly, “Besides, her health isn’t great. She needs my help after we went to the hospital.”
Bai Juntang didn’t fully understand how the pheromone exchange worked, as Dr. Huang had explained it vaguely, but she knew that frequent close contact was necessary.
“So today, you want me to help you pick things for Cheng Wan, right?” Mu Ruchu said, still calm as she scooped up more ice cream. “I’m not like most Omegas. Having me help you is probably not going to be useful.”
That was true.
Bai Juntang rested her chin on her hand and looked at Mu Ruchu. “After all, you’re the only Omega professional race car driver in the world now. Of course, you’re not like ordinary Omegas.”
Talking about this made Bai Juntang proud.
In just a few days, the announcement would be made, and with Mu Ruchu’s skills, the top three was practically guaranteed.
Such an amazing race car driver was now part of her club. Bai Juntang couldn’t help but feel like she had made a smart move.
“Have you prepared for next month’s race?” Bai Juntang asked. “Did the doctor give you anything to help suppress your sensitive period? I’m a little worried about you racing with a bunch of Alphas.”
“I’m all set.” Mu Ruchu looked at her ice cream. What she didn’t mention was that the suppressive drugs she took slowed her down slightly, but those were the best, least harmful ones available globally. Each dose cost over a hundred thousand yuan.
Even with the best drugs, there were still side effects.
Mu Ruchu instinctively touched the back of her neck, then tilted her head back and exhaled calmly. “I just hope I can get a good result.”
Bai Juntang felt the same way. She raised her fruit tea to clink it against Mu Ruchu’s ice cream bowl, then happily dug into the hotpot.
After lunch, the two of them walked around the mall for a while longer. Finally, Bai Juntang stopped in front of a pet store.
There weren’t many pet stores in the mall, but this one was high-end, selling purebred cats and dogs, all very expensive.
Bai Juntang stood at the entrance, watching the little cats and dogs sleep in a pile. She turned to Mu Ruchu and asked, “Do you think Cheng Wan would like small animals?”
Mu Ruchu, cool and composed with her hands in her pockets, replied, “She probably would.”
After all, Cheng Wan seemed like the type who would be fond of fluffy animals—most girls couldn’t resist them, especially cute puppies and kittens.
Bai Juntang also thought Cheng Wan would probably like a pet, so she decided to take a look around.
The shop was divided into two sections: the outer area, which sold things like cat food, dog food, litter, and cans, and the inner area where the pets were. There was only one person in the store, and Bai Juntang wasn’t sure if she was the owner or an employee. She was wearing a brown apron with the pet shop’s logo on it and greeted them warmly, saying, “What would you two like to see?”
Bai Juntang walked around for a bit and then asked, “I’m thinking of getting a small pet as a gift. Are there any animals that are safe for pregnant women to keep?”
“There are quite a few animals pregnant women can keep. It depends on whether you like calm ones or more active ones. If you prefer calm, I’d recommend a kitten. If you like more lively pets, maybe a puppy would be better.”
“Let’s see the kittens then.”
The woman opened a small gate and gestured for Bai Juntang to follow her.
Inside, there were large cages along the glass walls facing the street. Some contained cats, others had dogs. As soon as they saw people, they began meowing and barking excitedly, filling the air with the sound of adorable voices.
The shop assistant led Bai Juntang to a cage with some cats. She introduced them, saying, “These are Ragdolls, and this is their mother. The kittens are two months old and have just been weaned.”
Inside the cage, a grown Ragdoll cat was lying on its side, while its kittens slept nearby. The little ones were sprawled out in various positions, their bellies exposed as they peacefully napped. Each kitten wore a different-colored collar, and they all looked incredibly cute.
Bai Juntang watched them, thinking Cheng Wan would probably love these kittens. She found them irresistibly cute herself.
“Cats are very easy to care for,” the shop assistant continued. “They’re independent and don’t require constant attention, making them perfect for people with busy jobs or those who prefer pets that aren’t too clingy.” She picked up a kitten with a pink collar that was sleeping and showed it to Bai Juntang. “This is the little sister. She’s lively and playful—really lovable.”
The kitten, disturbed from its nap, whimpered and kicked its legs in protest, clearly not happy about being picked up.
The mother cat heard her kitten’s cries and sat up to watch them. Bai Juntang shook her head and said, “Two months old seems a bit too young. Do you have anything a little older?”
The assistant returned the kitten to its mother, closed the cage, and thought for a moment. “How about a British Shorthair? This is a litter of British Shorthair kittens, almost five months old. There’s only one left now.”
The shop assistant then opened a nearby cage and took out a kitten that was sleeping very soundly.
This kitten was noticeably bigger than the Ragdoll kittens Bai Juntang had seen earlier. It was so deeply asleep that she could still hear soft purring, even while it was being held.
Bai Juntang took a quick glance at the kitten. It was orange, with a snow-white belly and four white paws, looking nothing like the golden gradient breed she had expected.
“Is this a golden gradient?” Bai Juntang asked, frowning slightly. “It looks like a regular orange cat to me.”
The shop assistant smiled and explained, “This is the top-tier golden gradient breed—golden orange.”
For some reason, Bai Juntang felt an odd fondness for this so-called golden orange cat. It looked especially adorable, and when she saw it still half-asleep while checking out, she couldn’t help but feel more pleased with her choice.
She also heard that it was easy to care for—eating and sleeping well—which only made her like it even more.
Bai Juntang was sure Cheng Wan would love this little cutie.
As she left the shop with the golden orange kitten in her arms, Bai Juntang saw Mu Ruchu standing outside, absorbed in her phone. She was holding a large bag of freebies the store had given her. Bai Juntang raised her chin slightly and asked, “What are you so focused on?”
Mu Ruchu didn’t respond, keeping her head down. From Bai Juntang’s angle, she could only see the top of her head.
For some reason, Bai Juntang felt that Mu Ruchu was acting a bit strange. Just then, Mu Ruchu’s phone rang.
Holding the kitten in one hand, Bai Juntang placed her other hand down to answer the call. Seeing that it was from the club’s manager, she picked up and held the phone to her ear. “Hello?”
“Boss, something’s happened,” the manager’s voice came through, lowered to a whisper. “Is Mu Ruchu with you?”
Bai Juntang glanced at Mu Ruchu and asked calmly, “What’s going on?”
The manager’s voice was tense. “The World Championship Association just announced a new rule. Starting this year, Omega will be explicitly banned from participating in all racing events. This means Mu Ruchu might never race again.”
