How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 22
The atmosphere at the club was unusually tense. Bai Juntang stared at the newly introduced rule, which banned Omega from participating in races. This caused considerable opposition from many clubs.
However, no matter how strongly the clubs from different countries opposed it, they wouldn’t be able to do much about it. Most of the top ten professional drivers were Alpha, except for Dry Valley Club, where Mu Ruchu was the star.
Mu Ruchu was Dry Valley’s top driver and the best in the country. Now, with this new rule, she was directly prohibited from racing, which naturally caused a great deal of concern for the club.
“The Federation has received some opposition, but most clubs are staying silent,” the manager told the group. “The clubs that are opposing it don’t have strong enough teams to compete in the World Championships. It’s likely they’re just trying to attract attention.”
The manager glanced at Bai Juntang and sighed. “Right now, everyone is watching us, waiting to see how Dry Valley handles this situation. After all…”
After all, the world’s top Omega race car driver is in Dry Valley.
Bai Juntang furrowed her brows. This meeting had been held without inviting Mu Ruchu. She was worried that Mu Ruchu wouldn’t be able to handle hearing about it.
Though they were superior and subordinate, they were also close friends. Bai Juntang didn’t want these discriminatory issues to trouble Mu Ruchu any more than they already had.
Everyone in the room turned their attention to Bai Juntang, waiting for the club owner to make a decision.
“What are you all looking at me for?” Bai Juntang frowned in frustration. “This rule is discriminatory. Omega are just as human as anyone else. Why should they be banned from competing?”
“The Federation believes Omega are unstable, with their sensitive periods and weaker health being seen as flaws,” one person responded.
“Racing isn’t a marathon,” Bai Juntang shot back. “Even Alpha drivers can experience instability at times. This is an unfair and biased view.”
Bai Juntang would not agree with the rule, not just because of the club, but for the entire racing industry.
Mu Ruchu was an outstanding driver, right at the peak of her career. Banning her because of such a discriminatory rule would be a huge loss to the racing world.
“Regardless of what happens, Mu Ruchu must compete this summer,” Bai Juntang said firmly. “She represents more than just Dry Valley; she represents the honor of our country. If they ban her, then more Omega athletes could be banned in the future.”
Everyone nodded in agreement. Without needing much more explanation, they started to take action.
Bai Juntang gave Mu Ruchu some time off, allowing her to stay away from the training ground and focus on preparing mentally for the upcoming race.
Even so, Bai Juntang could feel Mu Ruchu’s disappointment. She couldn’t offer much comfort, but what she could do was speak out, hoping to get the Federation to retract this discriminatory policy.
By the time Bai Juntang finished all the work, it was already 10 p.m.
When she opened her office door, she saw a little golden-orange kitten sitting on her desk, looking up at her with big eyes. The kitten let out a soft meow.
Hearing the kitten’s meow, Bai Juntang suddenly realized she had completely forgotten about it.
She didn’t chase away the top-tier golden-orange kitten. Instead, she glanced at the half-eaten kitten treats nearby, then looked at the desk, much too high for the little thing and reached out to scratch its chin. “How did you manage to climb up here? Were you alone in the office, causing trouble?”
The little orange kitten wagged its tail and purred happily.
It was very affectionate.
Bai Juntang gently petted its head, and for a moment, she thought about calling Cheng Wan.
There had been so much going on today that Bai Juntang took out her phone and found Cheng Wan’s number. After hesitating for a while, she still couldn’t bring herself to make the call.
She put her phone down on the desk and looked at the kitten, which had now started playfully nibbling on her fingers. The kitten’s tiny white teeth gently pressed into her hand, leaving small bite marks.
Bai Juntang winced in pain as she looked down at the small bite marks on her hand.
Since it was just a kitten, the bite wasn’t too hard, and the little kitten, noticing her pull her hand away, scurried back over and snuggled up to her hand, starting to lick it.
The little rough tongue tickled as it licked her skin, making Bai Juntang both amused and helpless.
The kitten was so small yet already knew to take a little bite before licking. It was quite well-behaved.
“Alright, fine. Let’s get you something,” Bai Juntang said as she scooped the kitten into her arms, sitting down on her chair. She let it nibble on her finger while she dialed Cheng Wan’s number.
It took two attempts for the call to go through, and Bai Juntang asked, somewhat puzzled, “Were you asleep?”
“No,” Cheng Wan replied, drying her hair. “I just got out of the shower, didn’t hear the phone ring.”
“Oh.”
Bai Juntang blinked, pressing her finger against the kitten’s tiny teeth as she spoke to Cheng Wan. “Well, now that you’re done with your shower, you should get some rest. I’ll pick you up for work tomorrow.”
“Miss Bai,” Cheng Wan said after a long pause. “You don’t need to pick me up every day.”
“What’s wrong?” Bai Juntang’s tone immediately shifted, her frown deepening. “Do you think I’m being too clingy, showing up in front of you all the time?”
“No, Miss Bai,” Cheng Wan replied softly, her gaze lowered as she held the phone. “I’m just happy you’ve been able to have meals with me and take me to work. But our situation is a bit… complicated. I don’t want to cause misunderstandings with my parents, and I don’t want to take advantage of you.”
Cheng Wan continued, “The baby’s file has been set up, and everything will go smoothly when it’s time for the birth. You don’t need to spend any more time on me.”
“Spend time on you?” Bai Juntang said, her voice turning serious. “The doctor said we need to be together more often to exchange pheromones. Are you saying you don’t want to have the baby properly?”
“That’s not it…” Cheng Wan started to explain, but Bai Juntang cut her off.
“Then stop saying things like that.”
Bai Juntang glanced down at the kitten in her arms, then softened her tone. “Tomorrow, I’ll pick you up. I’ll call you when I’m outside.”
There was silence on the other end of the line, but Bai Juntang knew Cheng Wan had heard her. She heard a soft grunt before Cheng Wan hung up the phone.
She actually rejected her. It seemed like Cheng Wan really had some guts.
Bai Juntang held up the little orange kitten, and noticed that after playing in her arms for a while, it was panting, starting to stick its little tongue out in the heat.
Its soft, pink tongue looked incredibly cute, and Bai Juntang couldn’t help but sigh.
What was she doing, arguing with a pregnant woman?
The next day, Bai Juntang called Cheng Wan promptly at 8 a.m. When Xu He heard the phone ring, she got excited, even more than her own phone. She quickly glanced out the window and saw Bai Juntang’s car.
“Wanwan, Miss Bai is waiting for you outside. Hurry up, don’t keep her waiting,” Xu He said urgently, looking at Cheng Wan, who was still eating breakfast. “Stop eating, just get going.”
Cheng Wan had finally been able to eat a bit this morning, but after Xu He’s urging, she lost her appetite. Nodding, she got up, grabbed her things, and left.
Cheng Qiaoqing, watching Cheng Wan leave, frowned and said to her mother, “Mom, when is Cheng Wan going to move out? Didn’t she register with that Miss Bai? If so, shouldn’t she be moving out?”
Xu He was also thinking about the situation. She turned to her husband and said, “I think Cheng Wan should move out soon. Miss Bai picks her up every day for work, so it’s clear she’s interested in her.”
Cheng Jiajian broke off a piece of fried dough stick and took a bite, not responding.
However, the entire Cheng family knew that Cheng Wan moving out was only a matter of time.
In the car, Cheng Wan fastened her seatbelt, and this time, the seatbelt didn’t give her any trouble, easily snapping into place.
The early summer morning sun was particularly bright. When they passed through a street lined with towering phoenix trees, a refreshing summer breeze filled the air.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns across the car before shining down on Cheng Wan.
She looked at the beautiful phoenix tree-lined street and asked Bai Juntang, “Why are we taking this route? It’s going to take us an extra ten minutes.”
Bai Juntang, while driving, replied, “Don’t you think it’s beautiful?”
Cheng Wan glanced at her, then looked at the street. There were elderly people taking walks and students riding bikes to school. The street wasn’t too busy, and it was indeed a very pleasant place.
“It’s beautiful,” Cheng Wan said, her mood lifting as she enjoyed the scenery. “I never got to see this kind of view when I took the bus or subway.”
Bai Juntang didn’t interrupt Cheng Wan’s enjoyment of the scenery. Instead, she opened the sunroof, allowing the soft wind to blow down from above.
After a while of enjoying the view, without wasting too much time, Bai Juntang parked the car in the underground parking lot. As she did, she casually glanced at Cheng Wan’s small belly.
At three months, her bump was already slightly visible, rounding out gently.
“I might have to go abroad for a few days, take care of some things,” Bai Juntang said as she looked at Cheng Wan. “I’ll be gone for three or four days.”
Abroad?
Cheng Wan looked at Bai Juntang and asked, “Is it for work?”
Bai Juntang nodded. “There are some matters with the racing club that I need to handle personally. While I’m away, Li Chen will be coming to pick you up for work.”
Cheng Wan shook her head. “I know how to get to the office. I don’t need anyone to pick me up.”
“With your current condition, how could I let you take the subway?” Bai Juntang looked at Cheng Wan for a long time before finally speaking. “Can I touch it?”
Cheng Wan froze for a moment, then realized that Bai Juntang meant she wanted to touch her belly.
Her face instantly turned red, and she nervously gripped the seatbelt, quietly saying, “It’s still too early to feel anything. It hasn’t moved yet.”
Bai Juntang smiled and said, “But let me feel it too. Since it’s been here all this time, I’ve never had the chance to touch it.”
Seeing how sincere Bai Juntang was, Cheng Wan found it difficult to refuse. She reluctantly said, “Alright, you can touch it.”
It was just her belly, after all, not anything else.
Once Cheng Wan agreed, Bai Juntang gently placed her hand on Cheng Wan’s small bump.
The slightly rounded belly felt soft to the touch, likely because it wasn’t fully developed yet, so it wasn’t very firm.
Bai Juntang focused on the warmth in her hand, watching Cheng Wan’s ears turn bright red. Suddenly, she had an overwhelming urge to kiss her.
