How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 23
Bai Juntang’s hand rested gently on Cheng Wan’s slightly rounded belly, and in front of her sat her legally registered ‘wife’—who was also pregnant.
Before kissing her, Bai Juntang hesitated for a moment. As an Alpha, she was driven by instinct. The thought that Cheng Wan was hers made it hard for her to resist keeping her close.
Cheng Wan didn’t have time to react before Bai Juntang kissed her. But this time, the kiss wasn’t long. Their lips barely touched, exchanging a soft scent of pheromones.
Bai Juntang looked at Cheng Wan with sparkling eyes, gently pressing her against the back of the seat. “Being close like this is good for the baby.”
Cheng Wan’s face turned red, and she lowered her gaze, biting her lip. She softly muttered a quiet “mm.”
Seeing Cheng Wan’s response only made Bai Juntang want her more. She lifted Cheng Wan’s chin and kissed her again, this time with more urgency.
The car filled with Bai Juntang’s pheromones, making Cheng Wan feel lightheaded. Her whole body turned soft, and she instinctively grabbed Bai Juntang’s shoulder, tilting her head back slightly.
Exchanging pheromones this way didn’t take long. After about five minutes of kissing, Cheng Wan’s body was covered in the faint scent of fir.
“Ha…”
After the kiss, Cheng Wan opened her mouth to breathe, and Bai Juntang could see her flushed lips and delicate tongue. It was hard to ignore how strikingly vivid they appeared against her white teeth.
Bai Juntang inhaled deeply, feeling a sense of satisfaction as she cuddled Cheng Wan closer, her voice soft in her ear. “The hospital’s pregnancy guide says that two pheromone exchanges a week are necessary. I guess this is how it feels.”
Her eyes glimmered like a wolf’s as she watched Cheng Wan, asking softly, “Does it make you uncomfortable?”
Uncomfortable? How could it not?
Cheng Wan’s face flushed red, and her eyes became teary, her expression looking vulnerable.
But the discomfort was different than what she expected. It felt as though her body and mind had been entirely marked, belonging to the person in front of her. It left her feeling insecure.
However, after that feeling of being claimed, Cheng Wan didn’t want to be separated from Bai Juntang.
She raised her wet eyes, opened her mouth slowly, and said, “It’s not uncomfortable.”
She simply didn’t want the person in front of her to leave.
Could this be instinct?
Cheng Wan wasn’t entirely sure, but it was clear to her that Bai Juntang didn’t want to leave either.
“I… I need to go to work,” Cheng Wan said, lowering her head as she began to unbuckle her seatbelt, but Bai Juntang gently stopped her hand.
“When I get back from abroad, you should move in with me,” Bai Juntang said, looking at her with bright eyes. “I live nearby, and there’s someone who can take care of you.”
Cheng Wan looked at her for a long time before answering, “I need to think about it.”
“Okay,” Bai Juntang said, letting go of her hand with a light smile. “You’ve got a few days to think it over.”
In the end, Cheng Wan opened the car door and hurried out, almost as though she were running away.
The lingering scent on her body made Cheng Wan spray a lot of perfume in the restroom before she felt comfortable enough to leave. Even so, she was still late.
This was the first time Cheng Wan had been late since starting her job, and she was fined fifty yuan.
Holding the fine in her hand, Cheng Wan sighed as she sat at her desk, looking at the deducted amount with a little frustration.
It wasn’t that she cared about the money—it was more about the fact that… she would have to ask Bai Juntang to reimburse her for it.
But when she thought about the kiss in the underground parking lot, Cheng Wan couldn’t bring herself to complain to Bai Juntang right now. It would just sound like she was being overly needy.
After accepting the loss silently, her colleague, Chang Le, who was sitting nearby, couldn’t help but notice the fragrance and leaned over.
“Wow, Wanwan, you smell amazing! What perfume did you use?” Chang Le, a Beta, couldn’t detect the faint fir scent on Cheng Wan but could smell the perfume she had sprayed.
Chang Le leaned in closer, her eyes sparkling as she said, “It smells like fresh grass. It’s really nice, and perfect for summer!”
Cheng Wan smiled and replied, “You’ve got a good nose. It’s actually a grass-scented perfume.”
“What a unique perfume. It smells great!”
“Yeah, it was recommended to me by someone, and I really like it too.”
Just then, Yang Zhiman walked in, glancing around the office. “I noticed two employees were late today. I’m sure no one’s lacking those few minutes, yet you still come in right on time. I don’t want to see anyone late again, so please pay attention in the future.”
Chang Le blinked, turning to Cheng Wan and quietly asking, “What’s up with Yang? It’s just being late, is it really that big of a deal? The fine’s already been deducted, right?”
“Chang Le, what are you saying?” Yang Zhiman snapped, glaring at Chang Le before turning her gaze toward Cheng Wan.
“Being late might seem small, but it reflects a person’s work attitude,” Yang Zhiman said, staring pointedly at Cheng Wan. “Don’t think that because of your special status, you can come in late or leave early. Company rules must be followed.”
Cheng Wan furrowed her brows slightly; she always felt that Yang Zhiman seemed to be targeting her.
“Anyone who is late today will have their perfect attendance bonus and one day’s wages deducted,” Yang Zhiman said coldly. “Let’s see who dares to be late in the future.”
Once Yang Zhiman entered the office, the others began whispering among themselves.
“Has Yang Zhiman gotten angry again today?”
“What’s wrong with her this morning? Being late, and now she’s deducting both the perfect attendance bonus and one day’s wages?”
“Tell me about it. I feel like Yang Zhiman has been picking on people lately. Could it be an early onset of menopause?”
Listening to the discussions around her, Cheng Wan was called into the office by HR. She returned holding a new penalty notice. Although she had been fined, at least she could work in peace now. Cheng Wan sighed softly.
At that moment, Yang Zhiman called Manager Zhou into her office. With a displeased look, she stared at her. “Do you know that Cheng Wan is pregnant?”
Manager Zhou blinked and pretended to be clueless. “Huh? She’s pregnant? I had no idea.”
“Are you sure you didn’t know?” Yang Zhiman asked her.
“Yang Zhiman, I mostly work in my office and don’t interact often with Cheng Wan. Besides, I’m a Beta. I wouldn’t know if there were any changes with her unless she told me,” Manager Zhou replied with a smile. “Moreover, I wouldn’t notice anything unless she specifically mentioned it.”
This statement wasn’t problematic. The majority of the company was made up of Betas, and the few Alphas rarely interacted with Cheng Wan. If she hadn’t mentioned it, it would have been hard for anyone to notice.
“Yang Zhiman,” Manager Zhou said, noticing the displeased expression on her face. She forced a smile and continued, “Cheng Wan has been with the company for quite a while now, and she has been doing an excellent job in all aspects. I believe she’s a very good employee.”
“Is that so?” Yang Zhiman leaned back in her chair and glanced at her. “Her job is something anyone could do. How did you end up hiring an Omega? Now that she’s pregnant, it’s going to be even more troublesome.”
“It won’t be that troublesome. There are many female employees in our company who get pregnant and have children. They come back and work just the same.”
“An Omega is different from the others.”
Yang Zhiman’s eyes revealed a hint of disdain for Omegas. She looked at Manager Zhou and said, “An Omega like Cheng Wan, who is pregnant, should be at home. I’ve always said there should be no Omegas in the workplace. They’re unstable and prone to causing chaos. They should be kept at home, away from the office.”
Manager Zhou stared at Yang Zhiman in disbelief. How could such discriminatory words slip so naturally from her lips?
Yang Zhiman didn’t feel she had said anything inappropriate. She looked at Manager Zhou and said seriously, “Find a way to get Cheng Wan out. Whether by putting pressure on her work or assigning her unreasonable fieldwork, I don’t care. I just don’t want to see a pregnant Omega acting like a saint in my company.”
“Wanwan~”
Chang Le leaned over her desk, watching Cheng Wan type on the keyboard. She asked, “We’re having a gathering tonight, will you come?”
Cheng Wan didn’t look at her and continued typing on the keyboard, replying, “I’m not sure. I still have two documents to handle. I don’t know if I can finish them before off work.”
“Two more?” Chang Le said in surprise. “Has today been that busy? You’ve been working all day, how come you haven’t finished yet?”
At this, Cheng Wan also found it strange. Many of the tasks were not urgent, but they had all been assigned to her with a sense of urgency. As a result, she had been working all day and was still not finished as the end of the day approached.
Fortunately, though it was a lot, it wasn’t terribly troublesome. She should be able to wrap it up in another hour or two.
When it was finally time to leave, Cheng Wan still hadn’t finished. Chang Le, watching her work so hard, found it puzzling. At that moment, Manager Zhou also walked out of the office.
She saw that Cheng Wan was still busy. After pausing for a moment, she walked over and asked gently, “Haven’t you finished your work for today?”
Cheng Wan looked up at her and weakly nodded.
Manager Zhou felt a pang of sympathy. She knew why Cheng Wan had so much work today, and the thought that future tasks might become even more troublesome made her feel especially sorry for the girl.
But she couldn’t go against Yang Zhiman. As a fellow worker, Manager Zhou had to make a living and support her family as well.
“Don’t keep working on this. It’s not urgent. You can finish it tomorrow,” Manager Zhou said kindly, trying to comfort her. “In the future, when Yang Zhiman assigns you tasks, there’s no need to be so determined to finish everything in one day. It’s okay to take a short break.”
“That’s right, that’s right,” Chang Le added. “Don’t work overtime today. Let’s go have dinner. Afterward, tomorrow I’ll help you finish it together.”
Cheng Wan thought for a moment. It was rare for Chang Le to invite her to dinner, so she didn’t refuse. She saved the work she had completed and left with Chang Le for the evening.
When Yang Zhiman walked out of the office and saw the unfinished documents still on Cheng Wan’s desk, but Cheng Wan had already left for the day, her face immediately darkened.
Yang Zhiman frowned and thought to herself, Omega really shouldn’t be allowed to stay in the workplace. They should be at home, having children.
