How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 7
At Qiangu Professional Racing Club, Bai Juntang, for once, didn’t go onto the track herself. Instead, she stood on the viewing platform, watching the racers train.
The roar of engines echoed in her ears as the cars sped past, red and black streaks flashing before her eyes. Each one bore the official logo of Qiangu Professional Racing Club.
“Boss,” the club manager came up beside her and asked, “Not going for a drive today?”
“Not in the mood,” Bai Juntang replied, brushing her long hair back. Then she asked, “Where’s Mu Ruchu?”
“Ruchu wasn’t feeling well today. She went out for one lap and then went to the lounge to rest.”
“Not feeling well?”
Bai Juntang turned to look at him. “What happened to her?”
The manager hesitated for a moment before replying, “You’d better ask her yourself. It’s a bit awkward for me to explain.”
Hearing that, Bai Juntang had a rough idea of what might be going on. She didn’t stay on the platform any longer and headed downstairs toward the lounge area.
As the club’s top racer, Mu Ruchu had her own private resting room.
It wasn’t just because of her performance on the track. There was another important reason—Mu Ruchu was an Omega.
As soon as Bai Juntang stepped inside, she picked up the faint scent of ginkgo in the air. It was Mu Ruchu’s pheromone. But ever since Bai Juntang and Cheng Wan had marked each other, she felt an instinctive rejection toward anyone else’s scent.
Mu Ruchu was sitting in a chair, dressed in a black tank top. When she saw Bai Juntang come in, she greeted her softly,
“You came.”
“Yeah.” Bai Juntang walked over to the door and turned on the ventilation fan. She glanced at Mu Ruchu and asked,
“Your heat cycle started?”
Mu Ruchu nodded. She had known Bai Juntang for a long time and didn’t feel the need to hide it. Sitting right there, she calmly gave herself a suppressant injection in front of her.
Bai Juntang watched the clear liquid enter Mu Ruchu’s arm and couldn’t help but frown slightly.
“What’s with that look?” Mu Ruchu tossed the used syringe into the trash and opened a bottle of water. She took a sip and raised her eyebrows. “It’s not like this is the first time you’ve seen me use a suppressant.”
Bai Juntang had indeed seen it before. Sometimes, she even helped her with the injection. Still, every time she watched Mu Ruchu do it, she couldn’t help feeling something strange.
If it weren’t for her heat cycles, Bai Juntang believed that Mu Ruchu’s racing career would have gone even further.
“I went to see Cheng Wan today,” Bai Juntang said, changing the topic. “My mother might be coming to Fancheng in the next couple of days. She wants me to bring Cheng Wan to meet her.”
“This is a good thing. I heard that girl is very quiet.”
“It’s not just what people say—she really is very quiet.”
Bai Juntang rubbed her forehead and sighed. “She seems to be afraid of me.”
Mu Ruchu let out a soft laugh, propping her head on her hand as she looked at her.
“You should ask around and see who isn’t afraid of you.”
“Am I really that scary?” Bai Juntang muttered with a bit of annoyance. Then she looked at Mu Ruchu and asked,
“The new standards for professional racing just came out. Did you see them?”
Mu Ruchu lowered her gaze slightly and nodded.
“I saw them.”
“In domestic competitions, Omegas are no longer allowed to participate,” Bai Juntang said to her friend. “Luckily, you don’t have to race in national events anymore. Let’s just hope the international ones don’t follow the same rule.”
Even though Mu Ruchu was an Omega, her ranking had always been among the top five in international competitions. Her best finish was second place last year. If she performed at her usual level, she still had a real shot at winning first.
Unfortunately, the international racing world had also started tightening its rules on secondary genders. Some regions had already banned Omegas from competing, and as a result, Omega athletes were becoming increasingly rare on the track.
Among the top ten racers in the league, Mu Ruchu was the only Omega.
“Let’s hope so.” Mu Ruchu reached up and rubbed her neck. Her fingers brushed the gland at the back of it. She looked at Bai Juntang and said,
“If I had the chance, I would honestly get it removed and become someone without a gender.”
If she could have that gland—something that had troubled her for over twenty years—surgically removed, Mu Ruchu would finally be able to race freely, without worrying about her heat cycles or the pain they brought.
But unfortunately, removing a gland was illegal in every country, especially for Omegas, who were already so rare.
Bai Juntang didn’t know how to comfort her friend. All she could say was,
“Just get some rest. The point-ranking races are in two months. Getting into the right state is more important than anything.”
“Of course.” Mu Ruchu rested her chin on her hand and looked at Bai Juntang.
“Cheng Wan… that’s her name, right?”
“Yeah.”
“If you have time, you should spend more of it with her. I heard you took her for a prenatal checkup today?”
At the mention of it, Bai Juntang looked helpless.
“The doctor said the baby is doing well, but she’s too thin. They told her to eat more. But when I took her out for lunch today, she barely ate anything. It’s stressing me out.”
Mu Ruchu chuckled softly. She crossed her arms, leaned back in her chair, and rested her boots on the seat, tilting her head toward Bai Juntang.
“If you’re that worried, why not bring her to stay at your place? That way, you can keep an eye on her meals anytime you want.”
Bai Juntang curled her lips slightly.
“I’ll think about it later.”
Looking at Mu Ruchu now, she let out a sigh.
“I was actually going to invite you out for drinks tonight. But I guess you’re not up for it, so let’s do it another time.”
“Yeah. I need to rest at home for a few days. Let’s meet up when I’m feeling better.”
The next morning, just before Cheng Wan left the house, she received a phone call.
She had no idea how Bai Juntang got her number, but the moment she answered, she heard her say,
“Wait for me at your front door.”
After hanging up the phone, Xu He looked at Cheng Wan and asked while eating breakfast, “Was that Miss Bai?”
Cheng Wan glanced at her adoptive mother. She wasn’t good at lying. After hesitating for a couple of seconds, she gave a small nod.
Hearing that, Cheng Jiajian also turned toward her. It was rare for him to speak to her.
“When you’re with Miss Bai, try to behave well. Keep her in a good mood. I’ve been calling her for days, and she won’t answer. While you’re with her, ask about the one hundred million investment.”
That “one hundred million” clearly referred to the child Cheng Wan was carrying.
She hadn’t had much of an appetite these past few days, and now she completely lost it. After just a few sips of porridge, she got up and left the table.
Watching her walk away, Cheng Qiaoqing frowned and asked her parents in frustration,
“When is she finally going to move out of our house?”
Xu He didn’t respond. She quietly peeled an egg and handed it to Qiaoqing, encouraging her to eat more.
Cheng Jiajian replied instead,
“Soon. I heard Bai Juntang’s mother is returning. Once she’s back, Cheng Wan will probably move out. It’s just a matter of time.”
“Really? I heard that woman is very capable. Qiangu Racing was built up under her leadership.”
“Bai Juntang wouldn’t be where she is today without her mother.”
“Then someone needs to remind Cheng Wan to be careful. She should be more respectful.”
Listening to her parents, Cheng Qiaoqing asked with confusion,
“Isn’t Cheng Wan just there to have the baby? Why does she need to be nice to their family?”
Xu He looked at her biological daughter and stroked her head fondly.
“Qiaoqing, you’re still young. There are things you don’t understand yet. If Cheng Wan can give Bai Juntang a baby now, she might get a chance to marry her and share in the family’s wealth later.”
Just as she finished speaking, the sound of a car pulling up came from outside.
Cheng Qiaoqing quickly got up and walked to the large window. When she looked outside, her eyes widened in disbelief.
Parked right in front of their house was a luxury sports car—the kind she had only ever seen in magazines.
The sleek black-and-red car looked both elegant and powerful. She clearly remembered seeing it once and being shocked by the sky-high price listed underneath.
Now it was sitting right at their doorstep, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Wow. That car is amazing.
While she was still staring in awe, the car door opened and someone stepped out.
It was a woman in a white trench coat. Her long black hair hung loosely down her back. She wore oversized sunglasses that covered most of her face, hiding her expression. Only her pale skin and bright red lips could be seen.
With one hand in her coat pocket and the other holding a phone, she stood by the car.
Soon, Cheng Wan walked out of her room. She quietly greeted Cheng Jiajian and Xu He, then opened the door and left with barely a word.
Cheng Qiaoqing could only watch as Cheng Wan climbed into the sports car.
For the first time, she felt that Cheng Wan had something she didn’t.
“Mom.”
She sat back down at the table, clearly upset, and clung to her mother’s arm.
“Why does Cheng Wan get to ride in a car like that, and I don’t? I want that car too.”
Xu He stroked her daughter’s cheek gently and sighed.
“You’re a girl. What do you need a sports car for? Mommy will buy you pretty bags and dresses instead, alright?”
Cheng Qiaoqing pouted.
“I want the bags and dresses too, but I also want the car. If Cheng Wan has it, then I need it too.”
Xu He let out another sigh but smiled indulgently.
“Alright, alright. Whatever Cheng Wan has, you’ll have too. Now eat your breakfast or you’ll be late for school.”
While Xu He was coaxing Qiaoqing to finish eating, Bai Juntang was quietly driving the car, saying nothing.
The sports car only had two seats, so Cheng Wan had no choice but to sit next to her.
She clutched her seatbelt, nervous. Knowing that Bai Juntang didn’t like her scent, she did her best to suppress her pheromones, trying not to make her uncomfortable.
But in truth, Bai Juntang didn’t dislike her scent at all. In fact, she liked it. That soft, sweet white peach fragrance was pleasant—so much so that she had even thought about using a similar scent in her office or car as an air freshener.
Cheng Wan noticed they were headed in the direction of her workplace, but she didn’t believe Bai Juntang would go out of her way just to drive her to work.
She stayed silent the whole time. Bai Juntang didn’t speak either. There was no music, just the quiet hum of the ventilation system.
As they got closer to the office, Cheng Wan looked out at the familiar scenery. She turned to Bai Juntang, wanting to say something but hesitating.
“You want to say something?” Bai Juntang asked, pulling up in front of the company building. She turned to look at her.
“You don’t want me to drop you off?”
