How does it feel to step into a B-grade horror game? - 2
1. Getting started
Yein’s appearance was not something that is easily found in Korea. Especially with red eyes and exotic-looking faces.
Maybe that’s why. People were repulsed by her unfamiliar appearance. The children I grew up with in the orphanage from an early age were worse than the others.
They didn’t like her because she looked so different from them. Perhaps because of that, Yein’s adoption was not easy. The director of the nursery school gave up at once and left all the small chores of the nursery school to the courtier.
Because of this, Ye Yin, who was young, had to take care of all the children who were older than her, and the children who were younger.
I didn’t have any complaints about it. Ye Yin realized early on that there was no place to raise him except here, so he carried out his duties without hesitation.
No one would listen to her complaints, so Ye Yin’s small lips couldn’t open well.
The only person who spoke to her was her younger brother, who was two years younger. As usual, while the children were sorting out the messed toys, an old cell phone suddenly appeared in front of Ye Yin.
It was a cell phone that had just been donated as a donation. Everyone coveted it, but in the end, it was my brother in front of me who got it.
The screen of his phone, which he showed proudly, was filled with colorful characters. The child stared at the screen intently, and the child slumped his shoulders and began to explain the popular games these days.
It was something that everyone could see, but Ye Yin listened silently. It was one of the roles of an entertainer who lived in an orphanage.
The name of the game was <Mansion of the Dead>. He nodded intently, pretending to listen intently to the child’s whispering, which he explained in detail, and occasionally responded to it.
But if I had known it was going to be like this, I would have heard it more closely…….
Sitting on the floor, Ye Yin looked at the dreary hallway, as if consumed by the endless darkness. The cold touch of the bare floor was palpable. Her complexion turned ashen and then turned white. His cheeks trembled uncomfortably.
* * *
<Mansion of the Dead> was a B-grade horror game. There was not enough plausibility, and the ghosts that came out were unnecessarily cruel. Still, it was enough to stir up the players’ visual fear and raise eyebrows.
The stories of the ghosts were also varied, and the unpredictable items and skills made it difficult for the players. They used to call <Mansion of the Dead> a comic game.
Killers, ghosts, and mysterious monsters were almost mandatory in this game. It wasn’t too difficult to conquer the difficulty.
Even though it was such a game, there were only two reasons why it was so popular. The illustrator’s skill in depicting ghosts, killers, and mansion backgrounds in a maddeningly realistic way. And it was thanks to the feast of many beautiful characters that appeared in the game.
The Mansion of the Dead was able to build up likability with the characters that came out of it and have a romance, so I wasn’t usually interested in breaking it, but I was in a hurry to increase my likability with the characters and make a lover.
In short, it’s a horror game, but it could be said that it’s more like a dating simulation game or a comic game.
Of course, that didn’t mean it wasn’t scary. As I said, it is not an exaggeration to say that the illustrator drew it with a grinding soul, and the quality of the illustrations of the game itself was high.
As such, it was a brutal B-grade horror game and was being reviled for being pretentious, but it was enjoying the feat of attracting a lot of money.
– It was about the mansion of the dead, which the public appreciates. Of course, it was a story that he had heard about from his younger brother, so it was safe to say that Ye Yin knew very little information. I didn’t play the game, so of course I didn’t know the ending, and I didn’t know how to beat it, or how to increase the characters’ favorability.
As I said earlier, all I knew was very brief information about the mansion of the dead.
If you knew it was going to be like this, you should try it out……. Oh, I don’t have a cell phone.
Ye Yin’s shoulders slumped. With a shallow breath, Ye Yin stared at the translucent window that was still floating, and then took his eyes off and looked around anxiously. She awoke at the end of a long hallway, and the only thing that illuminated the dark, silent corridor was a feebly lit candle.
It was such a long mansion that all I could see in the distance was darkness. The air around him was as chilly as it could have been, and the doors were firmly shut. The smell of fishy blood and dust mixed with the smell of dirt tickled his sense of smell, and there was a drop or two of unidentified blood on the floor.
Biting into the tender flesh in his mouth in fear, Ye Yin examined the nearest door. The doorknob was already stained with something brown that had dried up.
“Hiik!”
It was clear from the first glance that it was the blood of a withered man. Ye Yin, now Fidelis, let out a frightened sound and hurriedly covered her mouth at the sound of her voice echoing down the hallway.
I don’t like being scared…
As he sobbed and muttered, he began to hear an eerie screeching sound in the distance. Surprised, Fidelis covered his mouth with both hands and held his breath. My whole body was pounding and I felt like my heart was going to jump out. The sound I kept hearing sounded like someone sitting on a chair or something moving.
A cold sweat began to form on Fidelis’ smooth forehead. She pressed her legs together and squeezed her eyes shut. For a moment, the sound that seemed to be getting closer faded away.
Fidelis had been like that for a while, but he carefully opened his closed eyes and let go of his mouth. A thin breath escaped cautiously. Fidelis buried his head in his lap. Her long hair flowed down and wrapped around her body.
“I’m scared, I’m scared…….”
I couldn’t hold back the insults that were about to come out of this incomprehensible situation. She was very weak in horror and thriller, to the point that a horror movie that was rumored to be not scary became the scariest horror movie in the world in front of Fidelis. She mumbled and cursed at the unknown target, wiping away the tears in her eyes.
“…….”
He took a breath to compose himself and glanced at the end of the hallway and squeezed his eyes shut. I couldn’t look at it. He couldn’t see anything beyond the hallway, as if he were seeing the end of the unknown. The corridor is like this, but I couldn’t imagine the size of the mansion as a whole.
“If it’s a dream, please wake up.”
She desperately hoped and tried everything she could to break her dreams, pinching her cheeks and banging her head against the wall, but it never happened that she would return to her original world. The throbbing of his cheeks, the pain in his forehead, and the strange smells coming through his nose were vivid, as if to prove that it wasn’t a dream.
Why all of a sudden?
Fidelis couldn’t find an answer to the question in her mind. Normally, the possession she knew would be a ghost entering her body, a book she was reading, or a game she was playing, but Fidelis really had no contact with this game. Even if there was, it was all the explanation I had heard from my brother.
And Fidelis Swald?
Judging by her attire, it seemed that she had been transported here and not by anyone else. The familiar nightgown, hands, and feet were proof of this. Strangely, however, the translucent window in front of him called himself Fidelis instead of Yein.
… Is it just a nickname? Or what’s in the name Fidelis?
Whatever it was, everything was full of questions, from one to ten. I didn’t even know why I used the name Fidelis. If Fidelis is a character from the Mansion of the Dead, what role does he have? She was scared and frustrated by the lack of information. No matter how much I questioned, I couldn’t come up with a clear answer.
I also found out about the famous game because my brother told me about it. I didn’t pay attention to my surroundings that much, I was just busy with my life. I’ve only heard about the game once, and it’s like this. Fidelis felt like she was going to be paralyzed by the situation that left her alone.
No matter how much he tried to deny it, the faint smell of blood and the cold air continued to drive Fidelis crazy. Compraising himself for not letting go of his mind, Fidelis squeezed his eyes shut and then opened. Tucking into a corner like this doesn’t solve anything. It was a fact that had been painfully felt all over the world. I had to do whatever it took to survive.
“Let’s wake up.”
Ho, they say you can get out of the tiger’s den if you keep your wits about you, right?
But are you sure about that? If you keep your wits about you, you can get out?! Aren’t you going to the goal before you wake up?
Fidelis huffed as he asked himself alone. The urge to give up popped up and disappeared dozens of times, but I soon steeled myself.
Judging from the information written on the floating screen, the only way to get out was to unlock the mansion here. For now, I’ll think about the name later.
It wasn’t that important, maybe it was just a common nickname that he had chosen. Fidelis didn’t give up a glimmer of hope, and he was going to find the door to the outside.
There’s no one there or here to save me.
“And ……. player”
I wasn’t the only one here. Maybe I can find a hint and share it with you. … I wonder if you’ll come with me.
No, wait.
The blood was pale from Fidelis’ white face as he pondered.
“If you’re a player, you might be referring to the characters in the game, not the normal person.”
Maybe he didn’t have a normal mindset. He’s a character in the game, so he might not even be able to make sense. Still, when I think about my sister in the nursery, I felt like I broke the curse by joining forces with the characters in the game. Actually, I don’t know. I couldn’t remember the details, and it drove me crazy.
Should we just wait for someone else to lift the curse?
Fidelis bit his nails nervously, then shook his head. I couldn’t just sit back and wait for the curse to be lifted. I missed the life I had lived so hard, the daily life I wanted to give up.
If you find out that you didn’t clean up early in the morning, you’ll be scolded by the director…….
Even in the midst of being scared, I sighed with worry about reality. Why would you give such a trial to a coward who can’t even go near a haunted house? If you want to break the curse, there are many people who are more courageous than me… If anyone gets caught, I’ll pull out all the hair on my body raw without anesthesia.
Fidelis’ grim murmur glowed eerily. Fidelis took a deep breath and exhaled, straining his body.
Let’s go to the front door. And if it’s closed… yes, let’s break the game. Let’s break it and go back.
