How does it feel to step into a B-grade horror game? - 5
Episode 5.
She lifted him from his stomach and brushed the dust off his body, a small translucent window to his side.
“Name: Russell”
The spear, which had a simple name on it, quickly disappeared. Fidelis asked, looking at Russell who was whimpering.
“Why are you here? Are you lost?”
“… Mo, I don’t know. I woke up and found that Aaaa Mama!”
The warmth of his embrace nearly brought Fidelis to tears. It hadn’t been that long, but it had been a long time since I’d felt it. Fidelis involuntarily hugged Russell tightly.
Relief swept over this one small child, so much so that the tip of his nose wrinkled. With a small sniff, she patted Russell on the back and tried to pick him up, but stopped when she saw his ankle. Russell’s ankle was cut in flesh as if someone had gnawed on it.
I didn’t think that sound earlier…
A chill ran down my spine. The moment I realized it, I started making intermittent noises from behind me again.
Galjak, Galjak, Galjak.
She didn’t want to look back, but she had to. There might be another victim. Honestly, the best way to survive was to run away with Russell now, but what if it’s the other kid who’s being eaten?
Fidelis, who had Russell in her arms, stood up with the child in her arms, turned and looked back. A strange creature crawling on the floor was slowly approaching Fidelis, scratching his arm with his teeth. Thoughtful, Fidelis tightened his arms around the child. Russell had seen it, and before he knew it, he had stopped crying and was holding his breath.
His palms were already damp with sweat, and the cold sweat that had stopped drenched his body. She held her breath as much as she could. Keeping his eyes peeled from the strange creature, he slowly began to step back. Luckily it didn’t seem to be interested in the surroundings.
Just as he was about to turn his face to look back, the crackling suddenly stopped. Fidelis and Russell’s bodies stiffened. A grotesque creature towered, its bones cracking. A blood-curdling silence engulfed me, and I felt like I was suffocating in the heavy air.
“…….”
Fidelis bit her lip so tightly that it bleeded. As if as a cue, the strange creature rushed toward Fidelis at an unusual speed. Startled, Fidelis screamed in her throat.
“Nyaaaaa
Hearing Fidelis’ loud scream, the creature screamed strangely and then went limp.
“Kieeeeee
“… Whoops, gasps… What, what is it?”
Breathing heavily, Fidelis and Russell made eye contact and stared at the creature that seemed to be lifeless. Then a familiar voice rang into my ears once more.
“I’ve learned the skill, ‘Sazafu’. 」
… Yes?
Fidelis looked down at the motionless creature, his face clearly puzzled, breathing heavily.
“Uh, what did you do?”
“Uh… That’s it, it’s four, it’s ……. lion.”
“What?”
Russell tilted his face, and Fidelis just smiled faintly, patted him on the back, and hurried away. There was no way to explain it. How can you say that after screaming once, you have acquired the skill of “Sazafu”?
Apparently, in the window introducing the Mansion of the Dead, I said that the skill only applies to me. I thought it would be better not to say something that I wouldn’t understand.
But it’s a really random skill.
While I was thinking about it, I suddenly remembered my brother who had explained the game to me.
“Especially the skills are really funny! Did some people get a skill that made them iron feet for kicking a can?’
Then he chuckled. Perhaps this was one of those goal-striking skills. Fidelis took Russell and hid under a staircase he could see.
It would be a big deal if even a ghost gathered because of the loud screams. It was the only place I felt safe. I put the lantern and Russell on the floor and tried to tear off my pajama pants, but it wasn’t as easy as I thought.
“Grunt.”
As she grunted that her clothes didn’t tear as easily as they had on television, the child crept out a sharp wooden plank.
“Oh, thank you.”
I made a hole in my pants and tore them along the center. Fidelis wrapped the cotton of her torn pants around the child’s ankle. One side of her pants was asymmetrical and unsightly, but she didn’t care. Fidelis let out a small sigh and looked at Russell who was whimpering.
The child, who didn’t know how he came from, was very anxious about the situation, but it was better than he thought. With a pat on the small head, Fidelis decided to take Russell with her.
I couldn’t leave my child alone and walk around alone. Above all, Fidelis desperately wanted someone to be by her side, even if it was small.
‘No, wait.’
With a strange feeling, Fidelis looked at Russell. Didn’t the “protection” in the event game refer to Russell? I thought it was to protect the child, but is there something else? Fidelis was still puzzled by the machine’s voice announcing the completion of the event.
‘Is this different from the protection I know?’
If you can’t clear the event, you won’t be able to go downstairs, so Fidelis furrowed a little.
What if it’s someone else to protect?
Fidelis held back a sigh that threatened to escape. Sighing in front of him didn’t do anything good. Fidelis smiled faintly as she pressed her narrowing brows.
“Do you want to get carried by your sister first?”
I couldn’t let him walk with his injured leg.
“Hah, but…….”
Russell looked at Fidelis’ narrow back and was troubled. Even though she was much older than herself, the older sister in front of me seemed so fragile that she seemed to need more help than I did.
“You look like this, but you’re strong. I hugged you earlier.”
“Oh.”
Still, Russell hesitated, and Fidelis lifted him up in front of him.
“I’d rather do this. You look at your back. I’ll look ahead.”
“Yes, yes!”
“Good!”
Let’s go!
Fidelis held the child in her arms and held the lantern in one hand. It wasn’t that it wasn’t hard. However, this was something I felt more comfortable with.
‘And I’ve got a lion!’
It was a strange skill he had acquired by surprise, but Fidelis tried to calm himself off as he thought of the monster that had gone out with a single sound. I was a single body with nothing, but now that I have a skill called Sajifu that can protect my body, I feel like I have a little bit of leeway. Russell is next to him.
I couldn’t go downstairs, so I decided to look around the floor where I was. Wishing I had some shoes, I grabbed the doorknob, and this time it opened easily.
Squeak….
Cautiously, he opened the door, and something reflected in the moonlight, shooting Fidelis into the light. He frowned slightly, and opened it again to see the myriad knives hanging from the ceiling dangling menacingly. Fidelis closed the door without hesitation.
“That’s impossible.”
Hmm, not too much.
Fidelis nodded and turned away as if she were nonchalant, but she couldn’t help the tears in her eyes. Not a single room was quiet.
“Uh, sister, wait a minute!”
“Huh?”
As he stopped, Russell pointed to Fidelis’ black feet.
“Val, are you okay?”
“It’s okay.”
“That’s… I think there was a shoe in the room that my sister opened earlier…”
Russell hesitated and said softly, and Fidelis nodded. She’d seen it, too. But I chose not to go in.
“It’s better to have your feet sliced than your whole body.”
No matter how you look at it, the latter was much better. Fidelis smiled slightly.
“It’s too dangerous to go get a pair of shoes. Thanks for the head-up.”
He looked at Russell in praise and nodded slightly. Russell’s ears were slightly reddened.
Stomp.
“…?”
Russell cried out urgently as Fidelis stopped to listen to the sound of someone running with a dull footstep that sounded like a rumbling through the floor.
“Sister, let’s run!”
I didn’t ask why. Fidelis picked up Russell and began to run away at full speed. Just as he was breathing heavily and thinking his brain was deprived of oxygen, Fidelis turned a corner and looked back.
A man in a large teddy bear mask was chasing after him with a saw in one hand. His clothes and bear skin were brown with blood clinging to him, and the saw was stained with flesh and blood.
He swerved after Fidelis and fell under his weight and speed, slamming his massive body against the wall. The bear jumped up from its seat and charged at Fidelis at full speed.
Fidelis’ face turned white. She began to run, ignoring the pull of her legs and the breath rising to the tip of her chin. Warnings blared ahead. His stamina had already hit rock bottom, but the moment he stopped, he would both be sliced to death by that big saw.
In the midst of the danger, Fidelis tried to reassure Russell by patting him on the back and repeating the words, “It’s okay, it’s okay.” Fidelis ran and ran, her feet bleeding and her feet were drying, but her efforts were drawing closer and closer to the saw-bearer. The 0% blood cylinder flashed in front of it.
“Please, please.”
Fidelis bit the tender flesh in her mouth and begged and begged again.
“Uh, sister!”
At the ominous call, Fidelis grabbed Russell’s head in his arms and slumped down against the wall. My whole body trembled.
The teddy bear, who was following behind him, with menacing footsteps, swung his saw at Fidelis. At that moment, she suddenly slumped down, and he tumbled down the stairs without being able to keep himself centered.
It was just luck, but Fidelis shook his shoulders and shuddered. My whole body was throbbing, my lungs aching, and my legs ached as if they had been forced.
Even though he was a common ghost and a murderer, it didn’t matter at all when he actually encountered it. It was just scary. Even though it was a game with the typical clichés of horror movies, I felt like I was going to die of fear when I faced it. Even if I tried not to recognize this unreal situation, I felt choked by the constant despair. The lack of oxygen left me in a daze.
“… Nee.”
There was a faint call, but Fidelis was dazed now. I couldn’t hear a single sound close to me. He was just gasping for breath.
Why, why am I doing this….
As his unfocused eyes began to close, Russell tapped Fidelis on the cheek.
“Sister! Sister! Wake up!”
“… Oh.”
Only then did the divergent focus gradually return. Seeing Russell with a fluttering pupil, Fidelis examined the child with trembling hands.
“Are you hurt?”
“Yes, yes, my sister protected me. Thank you.”
“I’m glad I did. Let’s get out of here for now.”
I didn’t think I would die if I fell down the stairs. She hurriedly picked up the child and tried to get up, but her legs didn’t have the strength to do so, and she just collapsed.
