How does it feel to step into a B-grade horror game? - 8
Episode 8.
“You seem to be very scared, but is it okay if I ask you why you came in? I can’t even go outside, and I don’t think I know that.”
Touching the corners of his mouth, Hakan smiled kindly. Instead of settling his smile, he kept asking for the essentials, and Fidelis began to break out in a cold sweat. Hakan looked at Fidelis leisurely, his eyes rolling and thinking, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
“I’ve got you in trouble. You don’t have to answer.”
“Oh, I’m sorry….”
“I’m more sorry.”
Hakan swung open a door as he walked. Fidelis sucked in surprise and he patted her on the back.
“I’ve got to look at it. You must have been surprised.”
“Oh, no.”
Fidelis waved his hand in denial. Then he tilted his head at the bandages on his hand.
“It hurts a lot. As first aid.”
“… Oh, thank you so much.”
Hakan replied with a gentle smile as he entered the room, holding Fidelis comfortably in one arm and rummaging through every nook and cranny. Nothing came out of the large room. Without hesitation, he turned his back and left the room.
Gurg-
Fidelis bowed his head when he heard a sound coming from the ship. Seeing his ears and neck dyed red through his white hair, Hakan smiled slightly. The tension was repeated, and as she continued to be quietly held by someone who made her feel at ease, she developed an appetite that she had forgotten about.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry….”
“I’m sorry. I guess he came in late and didn’t take his medication.”
“Medicine?”
Fidelis asked, puzzled, and Hakan rummaged through his pockets and pulled out a small clear vial. Inside were round, purple pills.
“You can’t expect food and a safe zone here. It’s a potion. It keeps you from getting hungry and keeps you from getting tired. You need to sleep, but you can also take a nap to get rid of fatigue.”
Judging by the startled eyes that Fidelis didn’t know. Hakan’s guess was almost certainly confirmed.
“You didn’t come in because you volunteered.”
Hakan carefully set her down on the floor and pulled a pill from a small clear vial.
“Just in case, I’ll give you 2~4 pieces. The volunteers here have eaten one before they come in.”
He didn’t know how long he would be trapped. No matter how strong he was, he wouldn’t be able to overcome hunger and drowsiness, so this purple pill was what he needed. In this place without food, hunger and drowsiness would be deadly. The effect of the medicine was quite long, about a month, so anxious people would take 4 pills at most and 2 pills at the most.
“And this drug was made by me. There are no side effects.”
With a wide grin, he handed it to Fidelis, and she hesitated.
“I have a lot, so you can eat it. Just….”
As he spilled his words, Fidelis lifted her head to look at him. Like a baby rabbit, he involuntarily patted Fidelis on the head.
“This medicine works better when you’re feeling your best.”
“Uh, then….”
A voice came from Fidelis that was a little unsettling.
“It’s okay to eat it in its current state of Fidelis, but unfortunately it has its drawbacks.”
“Well, what’s that?”
“Hunger and fatigue will stay the same. But you won’t be hungry or tired.”
Fidelis picked up the medicine without hesitation. This was enough to bear. Thanks to Hakan, I was able to calm down, and my hunger was okay.
“I have obtained the item ‘Fatigue Reliever (Infinite)’. When you consume this item, as long as the effect lasts, your energy consumption will be slower, and your recovery will be faster. 」
Fidelis’ face lit up at the unexpected explanation. He was troubled by his dripping stamina and slow recovery, but this medicine he suddenly got his hands on was a stroke of luck for Fidelis. I asked Hakan cautiously.
“Oh, can I eat it?”
“Oh, shall I feed you?”
“No!”
Hakan playfully asked, and Fidelis squawked and swallowed a pill in his mouth. Confirming that he had swallowed the pill, Hakan hugged Fidelis again. Fidelis didn’t bother to stop either. It was a natural move.
“Isn’t that strange?”
“Yes, yes?! What, what?”
Fidelis stuttered in surprise, and the corners of Hakan’s mouth curled up on their own. Pretending not to be immaculate, he continued.
“Isn’t it weird that you hid a hint to get out?”
Fidelis pursed his lips and chose silence. She had never thought it was weird because she knew it was the world of the game. But for those who lived in this world, it was certainly strange. Fidelis nodded slightly.
“It’s weird….”
“The devil is a playful man.”
“… Did you know?”
He blinked in surprise, and Hakan smiled sweetly.
“A thorough investigation is essential.”
Fidelis looked him straight in the face, feeling as if something had caught him not here because he had volunteered. When we made eye contact, he smiled and unfortunately couldn’t read anything.
‘Shall I ask you openly?’
Fidelis shook his head. Whether you know it or not, he said that if you keep your mouth shut, half of it will go. Anyway, judging by the fact that he didn’t ask me anything bluntly, he didn’t seem to want to do me any harm just yet. She inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
Fidelis decided to be as good as he could be. I was wary of the people in front of me, and I was also wary of the ghosts that might come out at any moment, and I thought I might lose my mind without realizing it.
“There are a lot of mischievous demons.”
“Naughty …….”
Fidelis smiled slightly at the cute word. Hakan’s blue eyes pressed her lips into his eyes, as if he wouldn’t forget them.
“Unfortunately, no one has found the hint and broken the curse, so the devil may have forgotten that this place exists.”
“If I hadn’t forgotten, would I have removed the curse?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m not a demon.”
Hakan stopped as he walked, trying to grab the doorknob.
“Is it okay if I open the door?”
Seeing how considerate she was, Fidelis began to wonder if he was really a psychopath. Eventually, I began to suspect that the word psychopath was a mistake. Or maybe he was really a psychopath, adept at deceiving people. Fidelis hoped it was the former.
“Yes, it’s okay.”
With Fidelis’ permission, he was about to open the door when he heard the sound of clothes rubbing against the floor. It was like a ghost she hadn’t heard in a long time, and she involuntarily wrapped her arm around Hakan’s neck and hugged him tightly. For a moment, she was embarrassed by her sudden action, and a joyful smile engraved on her lips.
Swoop, swoop, swoop.
As the sound grew faster and closer, Fidelis opened her trembling lips.
“Do, let’s run! Quick, quick!”
Unlike Fidelis, who was in a hurry, Hakan was relaxed. He gave her a small pat on the back and tried to move her feet, when the owner of the sound suddenly appeared. Dressed in a long black robe, he floated slightly in the air, a grotesque figure in the shape of a skull.
With a large scythe in one hand, Fidelis hesitated for a moment, then squeezed his eyes shut as he stepped down from Hakan’s arms. He put his lantern on the ground and lunged at the skeleton. Embarrassed, Hakan called her softly.
“Fidelis?”
“My, please….”
Praying earnestly in his heart, he forced his trembling legs to lunge at the skeleton. As the two grew closer and the skeleton raised his scythe high to cut her, Hakan hurried to her side, but to no avail.
Before Hakan could save her, Fidelis easily dodged the scythe and kicked the skull’s ribs with his foot. The bones collapsed in an instant, and the skeleton wriggled to dust. And again, a mechanical voice rang in Fidelis’ ears.
“Skill: ‘Auto Dodge’. 」
Fidelis breathed a deep sigh of relief. I thought a lot about it because it was a scythe I had to get, but I didn’t want to let it go. His hands and body still felt shaking.
As soon as he came close to the skeleton, he tried to use the lion’s hand or kick it, but the scythe suddenly flew at him, and he didn’t know what to do. It was then that the body avoided the scythe of itself. Hakan covered his mouth with his big hand when he saw this. He didn’t know what had happened, but he found the situation interesting and pleasant.
Fidelis tried to protect him, but he trembled, and when he saw the skeleton, he hesitated and seemed terrified, but then he rushed out as if he had made up his mind. He didn’t give himself a chance to protect him. Rather than being curious about the unknown behavior, I was just amused by the current situation. Hakan strode closer to her with his long legs.
“I got the item ‘Scythe’. 」
Fidelis grinned at the sound of the electronic sound. After all, it was a good thing he didn’t overlook it. She smiled and thrust her scythe at Hakan.
“It’s a scythe!”
“That’s right. Are you hurt?”
Hakan looked around to see if he was hurt.
“No, I don’t. All of a sudden, this surprised me. I’m sorry.”
She hung herself in a daze.
“No, I don’t. There must have been a reason.”
Hakan smiled brightly and opened his arms. He was told to come and hug me. Fidelis hesitated with his scythe, and the scythe and lantern on the ground floated in the air.
“Uh, huh?”
“You can’t carry it around uncomfortable. It’s okay now, so hug me.”
Blinking, Fidelis stepped in front of Hakan and he gently picked her up and lifted her up. Looking at the lantern and scythe floating in the air, Fidelis wondered, “Why didn’t you do it right away?” and Hakan blurted out a strange word.
“I’m thinking about it now.”
“Well, wouldn’t it be easier for Hakan if I could do that with magic?”
“No, sir. I’m more comfortable this way. Are you uncomfortable?”
Desperate for human warmth, Fidelis shook his head hastily. Satisfied, Hakan hugged her again and reopened the door he hadn’t been able to open. Looking at Hakan rummaging around without asking anything, Fidelis thought he was a weirdo.
Even though I had never seen him before, he was very nice to me, and if I got confused with a question, he would apologize and never ask me again. He didn’t ask, even though it might be suspicious that he kept carrying him because he didn’t wear shoes, and that he had gone to get his scythe, shaking with fear and turning over like a palm flipping over his hand. Hakan was the first person to show me such kindness.
In fact, there was a reason why Fidelis, who was terrified, was frightened as soon as he saw the scythe, but he rushed at it blindly. The reason I brought the scythe was because of the hint I received as a reward for clearing the event after I sanctified Russell. The hint reads, “It’s a scythe that can open it.” I don’t know what kind of scythe it was, but once I saw it, I had to collect it all and look at it.
Just in time, the skeleton came with a scythe. It was bigger than I expected, but I thought it was even stranger to have a normal-sized scythe in an abnormal space.
