Chapter 24
The mustached demonic cultivator was still reeling from disbelief when, all of a sudden, Xiao Cui, who had been lying on the ground moments ago, sprang up with startling vigor.
Seizing the opening while her opponent was disoriented, she smashed her fists down on his head again and again with thunderous force.
Bl00d still stained the corner of her mouth, but her fists were relentless, each strike heavier than the last, echoing in the air with sharp thuds.
You filthy beast! You dared to touch my lady, I’ll beat you to death!
Even though the man was a tenth-layer Qi Refining cultivator and much tougher than a low-level spirit beast, Xiao Cui’s fury was like a storm.
He didn’t even have time to scream before his body hit the ground with a heavy crack.
He wasn’t dead, but his face was swollen beyond recognition, black bl00d streaking grotesquely down his features a sight as horrifying as it was pitiful.
Li Xi quickly called out, Saving the children comes first.
After saying that, she gave the unconscious man a sharp kick. “Ugh, I don’t even have anything to tie this thing up with…” she muttered under her breath, frustrated.
Then, she quickly sent a voice transmission to her master, saying something wasn’t right.
Why were there demonic cultivators in this area?
When the townsfolk saw another of the evildoers fall, muffled cheers spread among them.
None dared shout aloud another immortal was still fighting nearby, and no one wanted to distract him.
Xiao Cui ran up to the black cage and punched at the lock with a few quick bangs. The iron clasp shattered, and she began pulling the unconscious children out one by one.
Within moments, several people rushed forward from inside the city, sobbing as they embraced their missing children.
Li Xi glanced at the cage, then handed Xiao Cui a bottle of healing pills.
“Lock that scum in there first,” she said calmly, before turning back to check the children.
She had recently learned a bit of medical technique, not enough to call herself skilled, but enough to diagnose their condition with a sweep of her spiritual sense.
As she expected, the children had only been drugged with a mild narcotic; there was no sign of poison.
She asked for bowls of water, dissolved a few pills, and carefully fed each child a dose.
The frantic, disheveled woman from before clutched her recovered child, tears streaming down her face as she choked out thanks over and over again.
Another man bowed deeply to Li Xi, holding his own child in trembling arms.
From afar, more parents who had lost their children were rushing toward the gate.
Li Xi quickly instructed them, “Take the children inside and shut the city gates. It’s not safe to stay here my senior brother is still fighting.”
Although that black-robed cultivator was powerful, his grin was wicked and his aura far stronger than her brother’s she had faith in Yan Jiuzhi.
If anyone could make that demon shut his mouth for good, it was him.
Yan Jiuzhi was only at the Foundation Establishment stage, but the enemy he faced was a Golden Core demonic cultivator. The difference in strength was immense yet he wasn’t at a disadvantage.
He was actually driving the man back, strike after strike.
Blades of cold swordlight clashed with waves of black miasma in the air, neither side able to claim victory.
The black-robed man grew uneasy.
He had thought abducting a few children in such a remote area would be simple enough but who would’ve thought a youth like this would appear?
Foundation Establishment only, he thought bitterly. Then why can’t I crush him?
Yan Jiuzhi’s swordsmanship was fierce and unrelenting, each strike carrying the weight of someone who fought with no regard for his own life.
Flashes of sword intent cut deep into the enemy’s flesh, leaving bleeding wounds that refused to close.
The demonic cultivator stared at the gashes in horror. Faint traces of sword intent lingered within them.
Impossible!
A Foundation Establishment cultivator comprehending sword intent?
He had planned to capture the youth alive that beautiful face could fetch a fine price if presented to his sect’s elder.
But now… he realized he had underestimated him far too much.
With a snarl, he flicked his sleeve, and a strange, pale disk spun into the air above.
Instantly, thick waves of black mist poured forth, cloaking the battlefield.
Yan Jiuzhi’s eyes turned sharp. That disk it was made of human bone!
He raised his sword, channeling the full force of his will. Sword intent erupted, tearing through the air like a storm.
A resounding clang split the sky as his sword struck the disk.
Cracks spidered across its surface, and it fell to the ground with a dull crash.
The black-robed cultivator spat bl00d and glared with murderous rage. That had been his life-bound artifact.
Dark miasma began to leak uncontrollably from the broken weapon, spreading outward in a thick, oppressive wave of corruption.
Li Xi’s face paled. Her instincts screamed danger. Could her Water-Wood Purification Technique dispel such foul energy?
Without hesitation, she formed hand seals. The surrounding aura of water and wood stirred, and soon a soft rain began to fall.
Each droplet shimmered with cleansing spiritual light.
The moment the rain touched the black mist, it hissed as though sunlight had struck snow.
The Golden Core–stage demonic cultivator winced as the rain soaked into his wounds, the pain suddenly intensifying.
His heart clenched. He was about to strike and kill the troublesome girl first—but before he could move, his eyes widened in disbelief.
He slowly looked down, only to find a sword buried deep in his chest.
The youth before him had eyes as cold as frost, sharp and emotionless like a blade drawn from an iceberg, radiating a killing intent so fierce it made one’s bl00d run cold.
After crushing the demonic cultivator’s heart, he pulled out the sword with a calm face, then, without hesitation, thrust it straight into the man’s dantian. The biting sword aura shattered the black demonic core in an instant.
Demonic cultivators were not like righteous ones. What ordinary people thought was “dead” often wasn’t for them. He had once seen one who could still move freely even after losing half his body.
The black-robed cultivator couldn’t understand, even in death, how he had fallen to a mere Foundation Establishment junior. His eyes bulged wide as he collapsed, unyielding even in death. The strange black bl00d bubbling from his wounds hissed under the cleansing rain, purified little by little.
Li Xi stared at her third senior brother, the one who seemed utterly invincible, her eyes sparkling like stars.
Her heart screamed: He’s only at the Foundation stage, and he just killed a Golden Core demonic cultivator!
As expected of a true powerhouse!
After checking that his junior sister and Xiao Cui were unharmed, Yan Jiuzhi frowned slightly, then walked back with clear distaste to pick through the black-robed man’s storage pouch.
In the distance, Lin Shanlai and Elder Gao rushed over on their flying swords. When they took in the scene before them, both men inhaled sharply.
They had never expected to find demonic cultivators here.
“Master, Elder Gao there’s one still alive!” Li Xi waved her hand quickly. “We don’t know if there are more children left at their hideout.”
The mustached demonic cultivator, who had only just woken up, had been shouting and cursing moments ago boasting that his Demonic Lord was invincible and that once released, he’d have his master turn them all into puppets.
But now, seeing his master dead slain by a Foundation Establishment youth his mind went blank.
He looked like a goose being strangled, his face switching from pale to green to white.
And now two more cultivators had arrived one Golden Core, one Foundation.
When Lin Shanlai and Elder Gao approached, the mustached man immediately dropped to his knees with no hesitation and began wailing pitifully.
“Honored Daoists! I was forced into this! They said they’d turn me into a puppet if I didn’t obey! Please, spare me I’ll change, I swear I’ll start anew!”
He slammed his head on the ground again and again, his face already smeared with bl00d now a horrific mix of tears and filth pitiful beyond words.
Li Xi stared, dumbfounded at how quickly he switched sides.
Wait, where’s your demonic pride? Didn’t you act all arrogant a minute ago?
If the man could speak his thoughts, they’d probably be: Pride? What pride? I don’t deserve that!
Without hesitation, he spilled everything he knew, word for word, as if dumping beans from a bamboo tube.
Meanwhile, Yan Jiuzhi had finished checking the Golden Core cultivator’s pouch. He lifted a black array disk wrapped in spiritual energy and held it up. “What’s this used for?”
“This? Oh, it’s just a cultivation array! Just like your Spirit Gathering Formation, really!” the mustached man said, rubbing his hands and forcing a fawning grin.
But his twisted, bl00d-smeared face was so revolting that everyone looked away.
Li Xi turned her head completely she couldn’t bear to look.
Yan Jiuzhi, looking utterly disgusted, plucked a few leaves from a nearby tree and used them to wrap the disk several times before tossing it into his pouch.
The thing felt wrong it wasn’t just for gathering yin energy, resentment, or deathly qi.
Unfortunately, the mustached man was only a minor Qi Refining lackey. He didn’t know much. Still, they managed to learn the location of the demonic group’s hideout.
After cleaning up the battlefield and, under Yan Jiuzhi’s guidance, purifying the land more thoroughly, they sent the injured and weakest of them Xiao Cui, back to Cloud Sky Sect to report.
Then, carrying the mustached demonic cultivator, the rest headed toward the village he had described.
